The legendary "thirty". Trekking in the Caucasus thirty Trekking thirty
The total duration is 9 days.
The famous route passes through the territory of the Maykop region of the Republic of Adygea and the Dagomys region of the Krasnodar Territory and covers the Western department and the Lagonaki biosphere site of the Caucasus Nature Reserve. One of the oldest, most widespread and popular in the Soviet Union.
As you move along the route, several climatic zones change, you climb to the glacier of Mount Fisht and the route ends with access to the Black Sea. Geographically, most of the route passes along the Lago-Naki plateau, located at an altitude of 2000 m above sea level through the passes of the Fisht-Oshtenovsky massif and captures the peaks of the two highest mountains in the area - Fisht and Oshten. The length of the pedestrian part of the route is 70 km. The highest point of the hike is 2044 m - Abadzeshsky pass.
1 day:
We meet at the southern wing of the Krasnodar I railway station at 11 am. We make a transfer to the small town of Hadzhokh, where our thirty begins. We set up camp and go to explore the picturesque Khadzhokh Gorge in the form of a narrow canyon of white stone, and at the same time see no less picturesque waterfalls (there are about 7 of them here). By evening we will return to camp. Bonfire, dinner, getting to know each other.
Day 2:
The pedestrian part of the route starts from the checkpoint of the Caucasian Nature Reserve "Lago" –
Nucky." The checkpoint is located at an altitude of 1750 meters on the edge of a fir forest; next to the checkpoint there is an observation deck from which a panorama opens onto the alpine meadows of the Lago-Naki plateau. From here you can see the Lago-Naksky ridge, the slopes of Maly and Bolshoi Murzikal and Abadzesh. Next we go out to the observation deck to the Azishsky pass. The Azish Pass connects the Azish-Tau ridge and the Lago-Naki plateau. Coming out onto the plateau, we will find ourselves in the world of alpine meadows - tall herbs and panoramic views. Along the trail we will reach the highest point of the route – the Abadzeshsky pass (2044 m). From the pass a panorama of the city of Oshten opens, which rises right in front of the pass. The Abadzeshsky Pass is an excellent place for panoramic shots. Having rested at the pass, we will continue our way to the Instructor’s Gap pass. Along the way, the trail is crossed by numerous streams, the sources of the Armyanka River, where you can refresh your tired bodies. Having climbed the pass, you can admire the panorama of the mighty three-thousanders. At the start of the pass there is a small mountain lake, near which we will arrange our second overnight stay.
Day 3:
Today we will climb Mount Oshten radially (without backpacks). Along the stones, avoiding the remnants of snow, we reach the ridge and climb along it to the top. So we conquered the top of Oshten! We will see panoramas of Fisht, the Armenian Range and other magnificent mountains. There is mobile coverage at the top. We go down to the camp and spend the night.
Day 4:
We leave the camp and go to the shelter under Mount Fisht, admiring the magnificent mountain views along the way. Having passed the Guzeripl and Armenian passes, we will go down to the Belaya River with a very powerful current, it is dangerous to swim in it. The Fisht tourist camp is located here, where you can order a bathhouse or take a shower. We put up tents, there will already be a forest here, we cook with wood. Since there is a lot of time left until the evening, there is an opportunity to go on a radial route to the Small Fisht Glacier.
Day 5:
Today we will make a radial trek to the Fisht-Oshtenovsky pass to Lake Psenodakh. We leave our backpacks at the camp and along the trail, crossing the sources of the river. Belaya we climb to the pass. From the pass a double panorama opens on one side to the valley of the Belaya River and the mountains of Krasnaya Polyana and Abkhazia, on the other side to the Chashka tract and the Main Caucasus Range stretching on the horizon. Having descended from the pass, we go out to the shore of Lake Psenodakh. It is located at an altitude of 1910 m. The lake is considered sacred among the Circassians because of its shape - a crescent. Water flows into the lake in several streams and leaves, seeping into the pores of the rock. After resting on the shores of the lake, we return back to the shelter. Overnight.
Day 6:
We leave the Fisht shelter and begin the ascent along the trail to the Belorechensky Pass. The trail passes through a beech forest that creates pleasant shade. The trail is crossed by numerous streams flowing from the Small Fishtinsky glacier, located above the forest. At the pass there is a view of the south-middle mountains of the Krasnodar Territory, covered with beech and fir forests. The mountain range of the Aibga ridge and the massif of Mount Bolshaya Chura are visible on the horizon. On the right, the rocky bastions of the town of Fisht hang over the pass. There is cellular coverage at the pass - we can call our family and friends. Having descended from the pass, along the path laid along the slopes of the town of Fisht, we will go to the Circassian pass, connecting Fisht and the town of Mavrikoshka. There are shepherd's sheds where you can have lunch and relax. You can treat yourself to fresh milk from the shepherds. After rest, we will descend from the Circassian Pass to the valley of the Shahe River. The path winds through a tall beech forest along streams - tributaries of the river. Shahe. On this section of the route there is the famous Cheerful Descent (or, if you go up, the Sad Ascent), at the end of which we will go to the Babuk-Aul shelter. Overnight.
Day 7:
We are moving to Vodopadisty. On the way, we pass Putin's dacha on Lunnaya Polyana and soon we will come out to a stunning 200-meter waterfall, where we will relax and swim, refreshing ourselves from the road.
Day 8:
On this day we have to make the transition to the village of Solokh-Aul. We walk along the Shahe River along an old wheeled road passing through a boxwood grove intersected by small rivers. On the right there is a view of the deep picturesque valley of the river. Shahe, and on the left from the steep rocky slopes here and there small waterfalls pour onto the road, in which it is pleasant to cool off on a hot day. The walking part of the hike ends in the village of Solokh-Aul, which is the birthplace of “Russian tea”. In the village there is a house-museum of the first tea grower in Kuban and a tasting room. From Solokh-Aul we take a bus to the Black Sea coast (Dagomys village). The main part of our journey ends in Dagomys. Night by the sea.
Day 9:
Then all participants can go somewhere of their own free will. Maybe someone will already want to go home, someone to friends and relatives, and someone else will want to take a walk along the Black Sea coast, swim in the sea, bask on the beach, go to the water park and dolphinarium in Sochi.

The All-Union Thirty is the most unique route in our collection. On the walking trail of the route you will overcome all the natural and climatic zones that can be found on the territory of Russia. From the temperate climate zone of the foothills you will rise to the high-mountain protected meadows. Here, under the slopes of Mount Oshten, the unique microclimate and nature contribute to the modern formation of new species, and the alpine meadows of the plateau amaze with the height of the grass cover. The maximum recorded grass height here is 2.5 meters.
The path takes us further and further, to the very thing in the world. Along the way you will see the lowest glacier in Europe - you will visit the zone of eternal snow and crossing Main Caucasus Range you will find yourself in the land of eternal summer - the northernmost subtropics in the world - .
ATTENTION!!! Since 2018, you can visit the All-Union Route Thirty in the traditional version - a backpack on your shoulders and in the lite version - heavy equipment, cargo, food are carried by horses, and you go with a small backpack and enjoy the nature of the Lago-Nak Highlands. The cost of the lightweight version with horses can be seen at the top of the page.
The history of the All-Union Thirty goes back to the distant 30s of the twentieth century.
Then the young Soviet republic set the task of improving the health of the nation. Budget tourist routes have become a priority. Promoting a healthy lifestyle at the government level has brought amazing results. Tourism has become a global activity for workers and a very popular hobby in our country. Every year, thousands and thousands of people went on hiking trips, spent their vacation listening to the crackling fire and singing with a guitar. The leading minds of that time: members of the geographical society, geographers and historians, local historians are developing tourist routes throughout the country filled with historical and ethnographic monuments, unique in their natural component. One of these routes was the route passing through the high mountain plateau of Lago-Naki to the Black Sea. He received classifier number 30 (thirty).
According to the national project, the city of Sochi in the 30s of the twentieth century became an all-Union health resort. It is here that sanatorium palaces are being built, the resort is being reconstructed and a modernized transport network is being laid. The Komsomol construction project of the thirties transformed the small suburb of Sochi and turned it into a garden city for working people. Therefore, the All-Union Thirty, leading tourists to the Black Sea, was a very relevant route. While visiting the Black Sea coast, tourists could continue their vacation on its shore.
In Soviet times, about 100 (one hundred) thousand people walked along the Thirty Trail during the season. The period of restructuring did not bring any positive aspects to the route. The route was undeservedly forgotten. The paths under the slopes of Mount Oshten are overgrown. The All-Union Thirty received a rebirth in the late 90s. The tourist infrastructure of the route was restored: the trail was marked, the Fisht shelter was reborn. Tourists again went on a trip to the Black Sea.
All tourists who have completed the All-Union Thirtieth Route are awarded the “Tourist of Russia” badge and an identification document

Breakfast at the camp site. Let's refresh ourselves, fill up with calories - today we have a whole day of hiking ahead of us.
The hike takes place with a light backpack, we gradually get used to tourist life and atmosphere. The weight of the backpack will not be significant. We take with us only warm sweaters and swimwear, as well as food for lunch.
We set off on an acclimatization trek to the famous Rufabgo waterfalls. The beauty of mountain waterfalls and extreme swimming in icy water awaits us for the most daring tourists.
We have lunch in the forest under the crackle of firewood and the warmth of a hot fire. We capture happy moments. Campfires are prohibited on the territory of the Caucasus Nature Reserve. Therefore, today we have a unique opportunity to enjoy the romance of a hike - sit by the fire and bake potatoes in the ashes.
We return to the camp site along the forest road. Tall beeches surround us. The forest sings and chirps. Ecology!
Dinner at the camp site. In the evening we pack our backpacks and prepare for the main hike.
The third day
Our multi-day route - the All-Union Thirty passes through the territory. Special rules of behavior apply here. Making fires, collecting plants and throwing garbage is prohibited. Today we will finally go to the world of the reserve. Early rise. Transfer from to the Lago-Naki plateau. The last safety briefing from the rangers and... we are entering the protected area.
Today we will have the most delicious breakfast in the world. We will eat on the Lago-Naki plateau among dew and flowers, under the breeze of a light breeze with a panoramic view of the mountains of Adygea .
Have you refreshed yourself?! Then go ahead! Let's hit the road! First along the Lago-Naki plateau, and then traversing the slopes of the beautiful Mount Oshten. Along the way, we admire the panoramas and magnificent views of the Main Caucasus Range, the sparkling shine of crystal streams and the crystalline ringing air. We swim in the triangular lake. Eagles soar above us, and if we're lucky, we'll meet representatives of the reserve's fauna on the trail. There are foxes, hares, chamois and... wild horses. A carpet of mountain flowers spreads along the path. It sparkles in the sun and shimmers with all the colors of the rainbow.
Lunch in the mountains near a mountain stream.
The most beautiful view opens from the saddle of the Armenian Pass.
appears to you in all its splendor. He beckons and calls. Makes you dream of a gray-haired peak. Here, on the saddle of the Armenian Pass, we will see the place of our radial exit tomorrow - the Small Fishtinsky glacier.
Descending from the Armenian Pass to the slopes of Fisht. Here in the clearing stands the famous Fisht shelter. Hurray! It's almost civilization here. Last year, the reserve staff renovated the shelter and now it delights tourists with its updated appearance. As soon as we cross the Belaya River, we find ourselves in the city of Sochi. Yes Yes! You heard right. Administratively, the territory of the Fisht shelter belongs to the Khostinsky district of the city of Sochi.
Campfires are permitted at the refuge. We set up camp. We cook a delicious dinner and go to a hot tourist bathhouse to relieve physical stress.
Attention! In the month of August, when the shelter is most visited by tourists, you can meet near the shelter. There is no need to be afraid of him, the Caucasian bear is kind, but it is not recommended to pester the animal. Do not offend animals - you are on the territory of the Caucasus Nature Reserve.
Fourth day
Let's get some sleep. Late rise.
We prepare breakfast and admire the surrounding peaks. The Fisht shelter is an unusually beautiful place - the rocks create a unique atmosphere of romance and turn beautifully golden in the rays of the rising sun.
Our path will pass under the streams of a beautiful waterfall flowing from the top of the mountain. Today we will visit an altitude of 2300 (two thousand three hundred) meters above sea level - this is the maximum altitude of our trip.
Descent to the shelter. Dinner.
After lunch, those interested can relax in the tents or play volleyball. And the most courageous will go swimming in the river.
We prepare firewood for the evening. Dinner. Evening of songs with guitar.
Fifth day
The attendants are preparing breakfast.
Today is a “tricky” day for us. This means that you can lie in tents and just relax - this is for those who are tired of increased activity. And for those who are full of energy, we suggest going on a trip to the Fisht-Oshtenovsky Pass - the site of fierce battles for the defenders of the Caucasus. At the pass we will find memorial plaques and monuments. Let us pay memory and silent respect to the heroes of the Great Patriotic War.
Here you will see huge piles of stones. The Fishta massif is famous for its karst cavities. We will have the opportunity to look into one of them. The funnel seems to have no bottom.
Lunch (snack) on the hike.
Return to the camp site. Dinner. An evening of scary stories about the Black Climber around a friendly fire. Romance…
Sixth day
Early rise. Hearty breakfast. For those who resist breakfast - extra rations!
“For tourists!” - the backpacks cried out and were placed on the shoulders of nature lovers.
Let's hit the road! We climb among the most beautiful beeches and rhododendrons to the Belorechensky pass, 1776 m. Here the warm air of the Black Sea fights the cold rose of the winds of the northern slope. Right on the ridge you feel a dramatic change in climate - here we enter the humid subtropical zone.
We traverse the southern slope of Fisht. Here are emerald alpine meadows, where herds of cows with lyre-shaped horns graze - the descendants of the famous Sochi buffalos on which the first settlers of the Black Sea region transported their belongings. Do you know what alpine meadows smell like? - you have to reveal this secret... Behind us, the stone dumps of the giant rocks of Mount Fisht are an extraordinary sight.
Lunch at shepherd's booths. Here in the stream there is the most delicious water on our route.
We take another pass - Cherkessk. The trail enters the forest area. Lower and lower we descend from the pass. We are surrounded by lush subtropical vegetation: cherry laurel and bay laurel exude a delicate aroma, at the end of August the blueberry bushes are densely strewn with berries - delicious! There are inscriptions from the 30s and 40s of the 20th century on the beech trees.
The “Merry Descent” begins - this is how tourists dubbed the sharp seven-kilometer descent down to the village of Babuk-aul.
In the evening we descend into the valley of the Shahe River. Shahe is the second largest river in the city of Sochi. I haven’t worked in tourist shelters in Babuk-aul for a long time. Therefore, we set up camp in a hospitable clearing not far from the spring. There is a river nearby. The water in the river is not as icy as on the northern slope of the ridge, and therefore you can swim and splash in it as much as you like.
Evening fire and dinner. Overnight in tents.
Seventh day
Early rise, breakfast.
We return to civilization. The mountain path widens and turns into a forest road. The road leads us to the sea along the bed of the Shahe River. This road is picturesque. Waterfalls; stone walls overgrown with moss; relict boxwoods - an iron tree that has been preserved in Sochi since the time of dinosaurs. Ancient trees up to 15 (fifteen) meters high are up to 1000 (thousands of years) old. Below, the Shahe River seethes and gurgles.
The highlight of the Inca today is the suspension bridge over the Bzych River. The border of the Caucasian Nature Reserve runs here.
We cook lunch on the sandy stretch. We swim in Bzych and bask in the sun. There is very little left - just a little before civilization.
On the left, two beautiful waterfalls await us on the tributaries of the Shakhe River, their turquoise waters invite us to swim, but we don’t stop. A photo for memory and we hurry to the village of Solokh-aul. Another couple of kilometers and we are in Solokha.
Our walking journey ends in the village of Solokh-Aul near the house of I.A. Koshman, the first Russian tea grower. You can go to the estate and drink Krasnodar tea - the northernmost in the world.
Recently it has been wildly popular among tourists. You get to the village as part of our All-Union Thirty tour - this is an additional bonus of our program.
A car is waiting for us near Koshman’s house, which will take the group to the village of Dagomys. If you wish, you can go on vacation to Adler. Modern Adler is the most fashionable vacation spot on the Black Sea coast. The site of the 2014 Winter Games is located here in the Imiritinskaya Lowland; concerts and shows are held in the evenings.

Hi all! While new trips are just being prepared, I decided to remember the past and write about hiking through the Caucasus through the mountains to the sea. And it was back in 2008, when the creative association ProYOU went to visit relatives in Adygea with the idea of making a short trip with access to the sea.
After a short stay with relatives (to whom we will return more than once ;-)), a trip to Maykop, and hikes along the surrounding waterfalls, we found a local guide, Slava. He agreed to take us through the mountains for a small fee. And he even organized a minibus directly to the house! We probably could have walked on our own, but the new location and the presence of a reserve, as well as the prospect of resolving issues with environmental authorities ourselves, prompted us to take a guide.
The legendary all-Union tourist route No. 30 or simply “thirty” starts from the checkpoint of the Caucasian Biosphere Reserve, passes along the Lago-Naki plateau, through the passes of the Caucasian ridge, and ends in Dagomys, already on the Black Sea coast.
What is so interesting about the “thirty” route? It covers several climatic zones at once - alpine meadows, mountain peaks with eternal snow, fir forests and coastal subtropics. There is also a nature reserve here, and this has helped preserve the unique nature, rare and unique animals, birds, and plants. It is quite possible to encounter bears here (in rare cases, of course) - we saw small and large tracks.
The route runs near the Oshten and Fisht mountains, from which many rivers in the region originate. You are guaranteed stunning landscapes of the Caucasus Mountains, stormy mountain rivers, the smell of herbs, a mountain bathhouse and much more!
The route through the mountains to the sea looks like this: checkpoint of the reserve - Instructor's gap - Armenian pass - Fisht shelter - Belorechensky pass - Cherkessky pass - Babuk-Aul shelter - Solokh-Aul shelter.
Transfer to the Fisht shelter
The minibus took us to the checkpoint, from where we walked along the Lago-Naki plateau. The spaces are incredible! The trail goes through alpine meadows, every now and then bumping into streams and lakes, and somewhere in the distance a herd of horses can be seen.
From the Lago-Naki plateau the trail passes to the slope of the Mount Oshten massif, the views become more and more “vertical”))
Amazing nature! The fields are simply bursting with greenery...
Mountain Caucasian herbs
Our guide Slavik, a very cool dude, he has a special dialect, a mixture of Caucasian and Rostov)))
It’s hard to walk because you’re not used to it...
During the whole day we walked about 7 km, quite a bit, but the landscapes replace each other with kaleidoscopic speed! At the end of the day we crossed the Armenian Pass, the descent from which ended at the Fisht shelter. It is located at the foot of the famous mountain on the Belaya River, one might say at its source. The pass offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains!
View from the Armenian Pass to the Fisht shelter and the Belaya River valley
The shelter is lively - there are many tents, people crowd around the kitchen, where you can order something to eat. There are some bearded men here...
Radial access to the Big Fisht Glacier
The glacier is located at an altitude of more than 2800 meters above sea level. Fisht is famous for the presence of a large number of caves, grottoes, and underground rivers. The most famous of them are the Soaring Bird Cave and the deepest cave in Russia, “White Star”. Also, Fisht is the westernmost peak of the Caucasus, which has glaciers.
We headed to all these beauties the next morning. At first, the trail slowly climbs up, then you begin to encounter very steep rocky ledges that you have to climb up. With each new ledge, more and more breathtaking views open up.
Down below you can see the Fisht shelter:
We go higher and higher to Mount Fisht, views opposite
We finally reached the glacier and walked up it a little more. People generally climb Fisht, the category of such ascent is 1B, but we didn’t intend to.
Above there are only rocks, ice and gray thunderclouds
The guide Slava took with him a funny spaniel dog. It was difficult for her to go up and it was so hot that as soon as she saw the snow, she plunged into it with pleasure and let’s ride on her back! Then I swam in the sources of the Belaya River;-) So I ran around, all wet and happy.
Shelter "Fisht" - shelter "Babuk-aul"
Our path lies further - through the mountains to the Black Sea. From the very early morning we got up and with the very first walk we crossed the Belorechensky pass, where fierce battles took place during the Great Patriotic War. This is reported by the memorial obelisk installed at the top of the pass. In general, this entire area has a rich military history, there are signs here and there, the remains of trenches...
View from the Circassian Pass to the Armenian Pass. Fisht shelter in the valley
Here is another sketch map of the area of our trip:
After the Circassian Pass, the trail goes through a dense southern forest, where we stopped for lunch. Here you can already feel the subtropical climate and the proximity of the sea. Completely different plants and humidity. In general, nature is of course very different from the Altai, and even more so, Omsk I’m used to.
Here the bear passed with her cub
Then begins a long descent into the valley of the Shahe River, it is also called a fun descent. Imagine 7 kilometers just down the roots and earth)) Everything is fine, but towards the end the knees begin to behave strangely, it’s not often that such a load falls on them! Anyone who went down there will understand me :-)
Main Caucasus Range
Then you need to cross the hanging bridge over the Shakhe River, and the nearest shelter is just a stone's throw away!
The “Babuk-aul” shelter is comfortably located in a large clearing among the warm southern forest. Unlike our previous place to stay, women are in charge of everything here. You know, the atmosphere is very different - calm and tranquility. Everything is neat, tables under a canopy, excellent shower, and a stream flows right behind the “dining room”))
Shelter "Babuk-aul"
The finish line - the road to the sea in the back of a truck
Yesterday there was a very long evening with wine and songs by the fire, so the morning was sleep-deprived)) But there was nothing to do, especially since right in the morning the other guys and I agreed to chip in on the associated Gas-66 towards the sea. And we had to leave right now; we didn’t even have time to have breakfast.
And yet, everything happens for a reason and not in vain! We would need the whole day. to walk along the Shakhe River to the village of Solokh-aul. And the road is not the most interesting - mud in the forest, no surrounding views.
I am amazed at the power of the Gaz-66 - the truck easily travels straight along the river, rolling over lying trees and wet stones. In the back, of course, it shakes mercilessly! But it’s interesting all the time: either a branch will hit your ear, or you’ll jump half a meter, and you also need to have time to talk to the guys from Chelyabinsk ;-)
In the village of Solokh-aul we rested for a couple of hours and waited for the bus to Dagomys. The road to Dagomys is very exciting with its views, sharp turns, it constantly goes down towards the sea. It was not possible to photograph all this beauty, since we are not the only ones who want to quickly plunge into the refreshing sea - a bus full of people!
That's all, our route through the mountains to the sea has ended, the legendary route “thirty” through the Lago-Naki plateau, Mount Fisht, several passes and climatic zones. Then I saw the sea for the first time! It’s later, every year I go to these parts, but this was the first time, yes. It’s difficult to convey this feeling... the perfection of nature and the world around, a splendor that simply cannot be imagined...
I was also surprised by the locals who hardly bathe and say “what did I forget there?” I try to appreciate what I have every day, something that can be forgotten simply out of habit. But beauty is everywhere, you just have to look from the other side. And I encourage you to do this!
Very close to Dagomys there is a wonderful place where you can put up tents thirty meters from the sea, it is open and publicly accessible. At the same time, there are very few people there, only the noise of the railway above, but after a day you get used to it. The beach here is small pebbles and has a rather steep descent into the sea, and there is a shower on the adjacent beach of the sanatorium. All conditions for life! Strictly speaking, you may not need a tent, this is the Krasnodar region and the subtropics! I highly recommend you go to!
Older generations, those who still saw the USSR at a conscious age, may remember such a name as “The Famous Thirty”! For those who are younger, and also far from tourism, this is probably a completely incomprehensible phrase!
In fact, the “Famous Thirty” is a tourist route, I’ll even say more! This is "All-Union Tourist Route No. 30". :-)
To avoid any confusion, I will quote Wikipedia for you:
Soviettourist route in the Caucasus lasting 20 days. One of the oldest, most widespread and popular in the Soviet Union. The route was already in operation in the mid-30s.
The route begins at the Gornaya base in Adygea, ending at Dagomys.
As you move along the route, several climatic zones change and you ascend to the glacier of the mountain Fisht and the route ends with access to the Black Sea.
In Soviet times, this was a route for beginners! For many it was the first! Actually, this is probably why it is so popular, 70% of our parents walked along it in their youth, but or at least heard about it! :-) Yes, then this route was designed for 20 days!!! But at the end of the hike, the newcomers were given distinctive badges, this was a kind of standard!
Now, of course, we won’t get any badges, but that’s not the goal!!! :-)
In general, this Friday we are going to conquer the famous thirty!
There are 6 of us in total: My parents (2 people), their best friends (also 2 people) and Anton and I... Total - 6 people!
We prepared for this trip for a long time, studied the route, bought equipment! And now there are 2 days left until release!
Now we have almost everything ready. Today we are preparing all our things and trying to assemble our backpacks in different ways so that we can go comfortably!
After all, we will need to cover about 20-25 km per day.
Again, I can lie to you, because the route is prepared by “adults”, in this case I allow myself to be led, although I will still do a couple of printouts, just in case! :-)
My job is small, carry my 45 liter backpack and photograph local beauties! :-)
By the way, the big question for me was the topic of the camera! I'll definitely take the number! If I don’t take one and a half thousand pictures a day, then the battery will last me for 4 days! :-)
But I would really like to take the film with me. Try shooting at the zenith. I understand that this is extra weight, that it takes up space... And from a practical point of view, it’s absolutely not worth carrying the Zenith with you... But I want to... :-(
What else can I tell you about our plans?!
Here is our approximate route:
On Saturday early in the morning a car comes for us, we are loaded into it and taken to the checkpoint. This is the barrier at the entrance to the Lago-Naki plateau. There the driver says goodbye to us, and we pay fees for each day of the intended journey.
Just in case, we pay for 4 days.
Having received permission to enter, we set off. The goal of our first day is to cover the distance from the checkpoint to the FISHT shelter.
Here's what they write on the forums:
Hiking to the Fisht shelter, which is located in the intermountain basin at the source of the Belaya River at an altitude of 1600 meters. On this day you will conquer four small passes. You will visit the subalpine and alpine zones. Lunch on an alpine meadow near a karst lake. In the first half of summer, part of the route passes through snowfields. This is the most eventful day of the route.
Fisht shelter - radial access to the glacier of Mount Fisht (2867). On this day you will visit the nival zone (a zone of bare rocks, eternal ice and snow). Skiing on snowy slopes.
We start the first day of the hike on the Lago-Naki plateau. After some time we will see Oshten, one of the most famous mountain peaks in this area. I consider June to be the best time to hike route 30. Why? Yes, because at the end of spring in the Caucasus mountains it can still be quite cold, in some places there may even be a lot of snow. Namely, by June, mountain flowers begin to bloom, the slopes are covered with greenery. However, in some places there were still unmelted snow remains lying in the mountains. Approaching Mount Oshten, we see a fork, we turn left and further along the mountain path. Almost immediately you will be able to enjoy the stunning views of the mountains and wild plants. I think few people will doubt that along the route along the thirtieth route you can find a large number of medicinal or rare plants.
At the next stage, we are faced with the task of overcoming the Guzeriplsky and Armenian passes. At the first pass we will see a memorial inscription about the participants of the Second World War who died here in battles. After the second pass we go down and reach the Fishtinsky shelter. This is a very convenient place for our overnight and day stay; from here the Fisht-Oshtenovsky mountain range is clearly visible. The shelter consists of 2 houses in the mountains where tourists can stay, but you can also set up your own tents. Among the paid services, we can mention the bathhouse (last year the price was 500 rubles per hour). Here you can buy beer, cigarettes and even vodka! However, at about double the price. While relaxing at the shelter, you can “run away” lightly and take a photo with the small Fishtinsky glacier in the background.
Second day of the journey. We pass from FISHTA to BABUK-AULA. Forums warn:
Fisht shelter - Belorechensky pass - Babuk-aul shelter. On this day you will find two easy passes and a long fun descent through beech forests of the Colchis type.
We go up the Belorechensky pass, where memorials are also installed. Following from the southern side of the Caucasus ridge, you will notice that the mountain path gradually goes to the right. A little more and we will be at the Circassian Pass. The road from this pass has firmly won the title of “Merry” among tourists on route 30 because during the descent you will even need to grab tree branches! Next, the road to Babuk-aul awaits us. Here we set up camp for rest and overnight. There are already paid houses in this locality where you can swim.
Third day of our hike!
Shelter "Babuk-aul" - shelter "Solokh-aul". On this day, tourists find themselves in the zone of humid subtropics, the path lies along the Shakhe River gorge with many small but picturesque waterfalls, lunch on the river bank, and possible swimming.
The main task of the last day of a four-day hike along route thirty is an eighteen-kilometer hike to Salokh-aul. From here you can go to Dagomys by local bus. We are very close to the city of Sochi!
From Solokh-Aul there are buses to Dagomys several times a day!
In general, our route, as you noticed, lasts only 3 days, and we pay for 4 days. Since we have no experience of large hiking trips, we decided to leave 1 day in reserve. Maybe after the first day of the journey we’ll stay at the FISHT shelter, let our bodies rest, and at the same time we’ll climb the mountain and explore the caves! In general, I think this day will not be unnecessary! :-)
It is unlikely that I will have the opportunity to go online every day, so most likely I will write about the results of the hike from the Greater Sochi area, where after 3-4 days of travel we will warm our bodies in the sun and bathe them in salty water! :-)
