Where in Poland you can go skiing. Alpine skiing in Poland. Ski resorts in Poland. Ski tours to Poland. Hotel prices. Eastern Sudetenland: Zelenets, Czarna Gura
We immediately found five reasons to go to one of the Polish ski resorts to roll out skis and snowboards. Bend your toes ahead of the snowy season.
Reason #1: Yes, it’s right there! Poland is Ukraine’s closest neighbor, and with the start of visa-free travel, which has simplified and speeded up the procedure for crossing the border with Schengen, this country has become even closer to us. You can get from Kyiv to Zakopane or an equivalent Polish ski resort in less than half a day - sometimes it takes longer to “climb” to your native Dragobrat. This is a huge plus for those who are limited in time.
Reason #2: convenient and inexpensive transfer. Ukraine is connected with Poland by both good quality roads and air services. For example, low-cost airlines offer many flights from Zhulyany to the Polish city of Katowice, from which most Polish ski resorts are no more than 200 km away. The cost of a flight if purchased early is from 429 UAH one way; taking into account the transportation of equipment - about 500 UAH more expensive. Transfer from Katowice to the selected resort will cost between 200-250 UAH. If you decide to travel by car, you will have to travel about 1000 km on European quality roads through the Krakovets border checkpoint. There are also options to travel by train via Warsaw or Krakow.

Reason #3: cheap. A week of full-fledged skiing at a ski resort in Poland will cost a little more, or even cheaper, than the same experience obtained in your native Slavske, Pylypets, and even more so in Bukovel. For example, a day ski pass in the most popular Polish ski resort - Zakopane - costs about one and a half times cheaper than the same ski pass in Bukovel. The cost of housing is also pleasingly affordable: in many resorts, a room in a decent private house can be rented at a price of 300 UAH/day (for double occupancy), in a private boarding house - from 450 UAH/day, a double room in a 3-4 star hotel “ will pull” on average about 1000-1500 UAH/day. The indicated price most often includes breakfast.
Reason #4: developed infrastructure. Ski resorts in Poland are of a European level: well-groomed pistes, new lifts (most often chairlifts, but there are also cable cars and ski lifts), convenient transfers, equipment rentals, friendly instructors and attentive lifeguards.
Reason #5: Of course, mountains! They may not be as high as the Alpine mountain ranges, but the number of trails and picturesque landscapes are quite comparable to them. The Polish mountains - the Tatras, Beskydy, Sudety, Gorce, Podhale, Pieniny - are an ideal choice for those who view winter holidays not as extreme entertainment and a sporting challenge, but as an opportunity to have a good rest on carefully groomed snow slopes.
In Poland, there are about 50 ski resorts of various levels - from the popular, crowded and expensive Zakopane to the little-known but magically beautiful slopes of Rabka Zdroj - a famous mountain climatic and balneological resort.
Zakopane
The most fashionable and popular of Polish ski resorts. Zakopane is called the “winter capital of Poland” - the town of the same name with a population of 30 thousand people is located between the famous Tatras and the Gubalowka mountain range and is considered the highest mountainous settlement in the country. There are a number of ski schools here, where both adults and children receive training. The town itself has several indoor and outdoor swimming pools, and also offers entertainment for other tastes - horseback riding and skiing, snowmobile trips, a speed skating rink, a professional theater, etc.
Trails: About 60 km of perfectly prepared pistes (including one 9 km long) are designed for skiers of all levels - from professionals to complete beginners. Accordingly, the difficulty level is from green to black. As a rule, there are no problems with snow in Zakopane. But if necessary, the slopes are promptly covered with artificial snow from snow cannons.
Ski season: end of October - beginning of April.
Ski pass cost: There is no single price. In each of the ski areas (and there are 4 of them in Zakopane), you buy a pass for the required number of days or descents. On average, the price of a ski pass starts from 5 Polish zlotys (approximately 40 UAH) per descent.
Szczyrk
If Zakopane is the winter capital of all of Poland, then this town in the south of the country is the “winter capital of the Beskids” (the local mountain range). Szczyrk has an interesting location - between the mountains, due to which there is practically no wind on the slopes, which makes skiing as comfortable as possible. In terms of the number of slopes, lifts and other ski facilities, Szczyrk can compete with Alpine resorts. On the territory of the town there is an Olympic Training Center, as well as a water park and a health center.
Trails: there are 29 of them with a total length of more than 30 km. The longest is 5.3 km. The most difficult track in Poland, Mount Skrzyczne, is also located here, and four jumps have been prepared for extreme sports enthusiasts.
Ski season: December - early April..
Ski pass cost: from 45 zlotys (about 315 UAH) per day to 195 zlotys for 6 days.
Vistula
This town is located in the same Beskydy mountains as Szczyrk. Vistula is located in the valley of the river of the same name and is surrounded by magical mountain slopes, making this resort popular at any time of the year. The area has a mild climate: even in the midst of January frosts, the temperature here rarely drops below -3 C. But this does not mean that there are problems with snow: there are many snow cannons in Vistula, providing high-quality “skating” coverage even in winters with minimal precipitation. In general, experts assure that the quality of snow slopes in this region is even higher than in Szczyrk. In addition, the resort has an ice skating rink, cross-country ski trails, a water park, walking trails, and toboggan slopes.
Trails: at the service of skiers and snowboarders there are 42 trails with a total length of about 30 km. Level of difficulty - from green (for children and beginners) to black.
Ski season: mid-December - end of March.
Ski pass cost: from 300 UAH per day in low season.
Krynica
This small cozy town in the Sudetz Beskids is perhaps the fastest growing ski resort in Poland: it is called the Polish Karlovy Vary. In addition to numerous well-prepared slopes, Krynica is famous for its healing mineral springs and an abundance of health resorts. The area has a mild climate, the temperature here rarely drops below -5 C. By the way, according to environmentalists, there is 3 times more ozone here than in other Polish ski resorts, which means a visit to Krynica can be considered as a serious health event.
Trails: more than 20 trails with a total length of about 30 km. Difficulty level - from green to black.
Ski season: November - March.
Ski pass cost: on average, about 120 euros per week. In Krynica it is customary to buy “points” (1 point = 1.1 zlotys or about 9 UAH); each lift costs from 2 to 8 “points”.
Karpacz
This ski resort, located near Mount Śnieżka, rivals Zakopane itself in popularity. The main part of the resort is occupied by the National Park. The local air is saturated with phytoncides from coniferous forests, which makes holidays in Karpacz especially useful for people suffering from upper respiratory tract diseases. A pleasant feature of the resort is its low prices: experts joke that in Karpacz “they ride on Austrian tracks for Polish money.”
Trails: about 20, with a total length of about 30 km, from green to black. There is also the opportunity for off-piste skiing.
Ski season: November - April.
Ski pass cost: on average from 15 euros per day.
Each state has its own legend, a kind of “calling card” - what first comes to mind when you hear the name of the country. And just fifteen years ago, many people associated Poland with youth ski camps in the south of the country. The name Zakopane remains in the memory of students from socialist countries who went on vacation to Poland... But times are changing, and now alpine skiing is more often associated with Austria, France and Switzerland. And it’s completely in vain: Poland is much closer, the trip is cheaper, and the ski resorts themselves have improved significantly over the past years thanks to European investments. By the way, it is citizens of Western European countries - Germans and Austrians - who make up the majority of guests on the Polish ski slopes.
Mountains occupy almost the entire south of Poland on the border with the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Most of the slopes are covered with forests, resulting in stable snow cover from December to March. However, the climate in Poland is mild and severe frosts are rare. Overall, an ideal place for a family holiday. Finally, all the resorts are located close enough to each other, so that during one visit you can try several slopes and choose the one that suits you best.
ZAKOPANE
The winter capital of Poland became a resort in the second half of the 19th century. The resort city is especially suitable for those who like to combine relaxation with entertainment: despite the fact that the city itself is small, Zakopane has everything you need - from five-star hotels to colorful cafes, souvenir shops and a market. The color is provided by the Gorals - local residents who speak their own Polish language, which all other Poles like to joke about.
Zakopane has six main ski areas ranging from 860 to 2000 m. To this day, Zakopane does not have a single ski pass or ski bus system, but the lift stations are connected by bus and minibus lines. Quite difficult skiing with FIS-category tracks includes the slopes of Kasprowy Wierch, as well as the northern slope of Mount Nosal. Easier slopes and trails are located on Guba Luvka, Polyana Shimoshkova and Butorov Verkh. Beginner skiers, children and lovers of quiet family skiing can take advantage of the mass of rope tows installed on private slopes directly in Zakopane - on the heights of Antalówka, Koziniec, near Nosal, on Budzovsky Wierch, in Kostiliski and many other places in the resort.
In total, there are more than 60 ski lifts in Zakopane, the total length of the slopes exceeds 65 km, the maximum height difference on the slope reaches 940 m.
SUDETES
The Sudetenland consists of several mountain ranges, the highest of which is the Giant Mountains, as well as the Jizera, Kruchi, Sovi, Orlicke, Golden Mountains, Jesenik and a number of other smaller ridges and massifs. These mountains are separated by intermountain basins, the largest of which are Jelenogorska and Kłodzka. The northern part of the Sudetes and the intermountain basins are located in Poland. The Elbe, Odra, Morava and other rivers originate in the Sudetes.
WESTERN SUDES: SZKLARSKA POREBA, KARPACZ, SWIERADUW-ZDROJ
The resort town of Szklarska Poreba lies in the upper reaches of the Kamienna River, at the foot of Mount Szrenica (1362 m), along the highway from Jelenia Góra to the mountain pass in the Czech Republic and to the Polish mountain resort of Świeradów-Zdroj in the Jizera Mountains. The resort is small, but very cozy and offers tourists one of the most modern winter centers with a dynamically developing SkiArena Szrenica complex on the northwestern slope of Mount Szrenica, as well as departmental and private drag lifts and slopes.
The SkiArena complex has two stages of a double chairlift that delivers skiers to the top of Mount Srenica. Here, on the northwestern slope and near the peak of Labski Szczyt (1471 m), ski slopes are laid, which are served by rope tows. The easiest trails of the complex are “Puhatek” (to the left of the first stage of the chairlift), 1468 m long, with artificial snow and evening lighting, and there is also a children’s slope. Above are the simple “Bystra” trail, 2080 m long, and the wide slope at Srenicka Polyana, 650 m long. More difficult trails are “Snezhinka” (2080 m), “Lollobrigida” (4440 m) and the slope near Labski Shchyt (1000 m). The most difficult route is “The Wall” (2080 m), officially certified by FIS for international alpine skiing competitions. Some slopes of the complex are equipped with artificial snow installations and are regularly processed by snowcats.
EASTERN SUDEDES: ZELENETS, CZARNA GORA
Zelenetz is located at an altitude of 850-900 m on the north-eastern slopes of the peaks of Scherlich (1025 m) and Zelena Garb (1026 m) of the Orlitsky Mountains. Directly above the ski slopes along the ridge runs the border with the Czech Republic. Zelenets has a specific microclimate that is beneficial for those staying here, and snow remains on the slopes for 150 days a year.
The trails, united by 25 lifts into a single network with a length of about 14.5 km, vary in difficulty - from very easy to very difficult. There is a snow park for snowboard fans.

The resort is surrounded from the north, west and east by mountain peaks, the highest of which is the Jaworzyna Krynicka massif (1114 m). The surrounding mountains are covered with dense coniferous forests.
“Krynica” in Polish means “spring, spring” - today they offer water from eight different local mineral springs, of which there are 23 in total in the resort.
10-15 minutes from the center of Krynica-Zdrój, in the Czarny Potok valley, on the northern slopes of the Jaworzyna Krynicka massif, there is a ski resort of the same name. Its basis today is a gondola cable car and six drag lifts. But construction continues on a 2-kilometer section of the gondola road to the center of the resort, three chairlifts and several rope tows, and eight additional trails, which are being introduced in stages. As a result, it will be possible to get to the beautiful slopes of Jaworzyna directly from the center of the resort, and almost 13 more kilometers will be added to the 8 km of ski slopes that currently exist on the slopes of Jaworzyna. A number of local tracks have FIS certificates.

In general, during the skiing season the temperature is quite comfortable, ranging from 5-10 degrees below zero. The tracks are generally open from ten in the morning to five in the evening. The advantage of the slopes of this ski resort is that they are designed for different levels of training, from beginners who have never skied in their lives to professionals.
The most difficult ski slopes are located in the Kasparovy Verkh area of the resort. The longest route in this area reaches nine kilometers. Despite the fact that the slopes in this area are designed for the most advanced skiers, this is where the most people gather. There are three cable cars in this area. There is a rental point for the necessary ski equipment. The downside of this place is that there are long queues at the lifts.
The next skiing area is called Butorovy Verkh. This area contains moderately difficult trails, but at the very bottom there are several trails for beginners. There are also three lifts here.
The third option is best for you. This is the northern slope of Mount Nosal on which there are five trails for beginners, one difficult trail and four trails of intermediate difficulty. It is in this place that many beginners take their first steps in skiing. In the evening the trails are illuminated.
Each area has good infrastructure with cafes, restaurants, shops, and ski equipment rental points. For an additional fee, you can use the services of a professional instructor or take a course at a ski school.
Unlike many European ski resorts, Zakopane does not have a single pass for all slopes. Skiers can either pay to ski on a specific slope, or pay for slopes on each slope separately.
The town of Zakopane is small; if you wish, you can get around it on foot in just 35-40 minutes. Despite this, there are many accommodation options. You can choose a luxury hotel, or you can stay in a small and relatively inexpensive hostel. It all depends on your desire and your financial capabilities. Accommodation can be booked in advance, or you can find it on site. You can especially meet a lot of people renting out housing at the railway station, standing with signs that say “overnight accommodation” in Polish. If we talk about approximate prices, a day in a five-star hotel will cost from 150 euros per day, in a four-star hotel it will cost about 70, and in a three-star hotel – from 50. Much will also depend on the influx of tourists and on what time to go. During the Christmas and New Year holidays, prices increase significantly, but there are still many people interested. You can rent an apartment for about 30 euros per day. Hostels will delight the most budget tourists with their prices, since the cost of daily accommodation is 4-6 euros per person (cheap and cheerful).
In addition to a large number of restaurants, shops and cafes, Zakopane has an outdoor swimming pool filled with water from a special geothermal source throughout the year. Most tourists indulge in the pleasure of swimming in an outdoor pool when the temperature outside is sub-zero and there is snow all around. Zakopane has a large water park that is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. In addition, the resort offers the opportunity to learn how to ride a horse under the guidance of an experienced guide. Various entertainment events and discos are regularly held in the evenings. The resort has more than 40 nightclubs, so the nightlife here is in full swing.
There are several ways to get to Zakopane. Most often, tourists travel from the capital of Poland, Warsaw. The train from Warsaw to Zakopane takes about 8-9 hours, so you can choose a morning or evening flight at your discretion (in my opinion, it is better to travel at night so that you can be there in the morning and resolve all issues with accommodation and arrangement). If you can’t buy a direct ticket, you can get there with a transfer in Krakow.
