Georgian resorts are very popular; people come here from near and far abroad, and there are always many Russian tourists. Before traveling, the question always arises of how to get there at the lowest cost. The most popular is, but there are other options. Let's take a closer look at all the methods of transportation, including the train between Moscow and Batumi. You always have to choose what you want to save more, time or money.
Railway connection
The most popular way to get to Batumi from Moscow is by rail, although there is currently no direct connection between these cities. You can get there using the following route:
- train from Moscow to Baku;
- train from Baku to Tbilisi;
- any local public transport to Batumi.
Railways are poorly developed in Georgia due to the mountainous landscape, so transfers are often necessary when traveling.
At the first stage you need to get to Baku, the travel time will be about 2 days, and ticket prices vary from 6 to 17 thousand. You will have to spend a lot of time on the train; without proper comfort on the road, you may find yourself exhausted after arrival. Trains depart from the station every day; the exact schedule can be found on the Russian Railways website.
How to get there by bus
Tourists usually choose to get to Batumi by train or S7 plane, but buses that travel every day are also a good option. There are 3 direct flights from the bus station to Shchelkovo every day. New Russian buses are characterized by a high level of comfort, but not everyone can travel a distance of 2,000 kilometers while staying in one place. There is no need to worry about this; on the way to Batumi there will be several stops to refresh yourself.
On the station's website there is a bus schedule between Russia and Georgia; it changes frequently, so it is worth checking the departure time in advance.
If, among all the ways to get to Batumi, you choose this one, it will help you get the following advantages:
- cost 4,500 rubles (inexpensive compared to other options, including S7);
- the opportunity to look at the beauty of the surrounding nature from the window;
- comfortable conditions in modern transport;
- stopping for meals and other errands.
There are many stops planned along the way, the first of which is in Voronezh. If you look at the map, they are located with a certain frequency, they are all located in large cities. At Voronezh and other stations you can go to the canteen and have the opportunity to buy souvenirs. This can be called an advantage over railways and air travel; in the second case, you definitely won’t be able to enjoy the beauty of Russian nature.
Alternative modes of transportation
Most tourists choose Russian Railways services, flights on S7 and buses, but these are not the only options for getting from Moscow to Batumi. You can find combined options when they get to Voronezh or other cities on one transport, and then go to Batumi on another, often this is done to save time.
The following common methods are highlighted:
- travel by private car;
- boat from Sochi to Batumi;
- travel by different types of transport.
Some options do not make sense to consider due to the large distance between cities. From the fantasy category of a trip to Batumi from the Russian capital by taxi, it is difficult to imagine a person who would want to spend at least 50,000 rubles on this. This cost is comparable to 5 flights on S7 aircraft.
Selecting a travel method
A serious disadvantage of railway transport is the lack of direct communication; it is impossible to get directly to the Batumi station. If you go by train, you will have to make 2 transfers, and the movement itself will not occur in a straight line. Overcoming extra distance will lead to wasting extra time. The mountainous terrain of Georgia is partly to blame for this, becoming a serious obstacle to the construction of railways.
In many plans, the best option is the aircraft of S7 Airlines; they are flown due to the most affordable prices. The cost of a ticket from other air carriers may be 2-3 times higher with a similar level of service. This approach has disadvantages:
- It is not always possible to buy tickets in the last days before departure;
- the need to book seats in advance if you want to definitely use the company’s services;
- a small number of flights.
Each tourist will determine for himself the optimal way to get to the famous Georgian resort. When using a personal car, you can choose the optimal road on the map; modern tools provide good assistance in this. The most important thing is quality rest; Batumi has created first-class conditions for this. Families, groups of friends, couples in love and just single travel lovers come here.

If you want to find out how to get from Tbilisi to Batumi, then you have come to the right place! This article describes in detail all the ways to travel from the capital of Georgia to the sea - to the main city of Adjara. What will you choose: train, bus, minibus or maybe a plane? It's up to you to decide. In addition, I will not ignore the transfer - a trip by private car or taxi. Let's start with the most popular method of transportation between the two cities - trains.
How to get from Tbilisi to Batumi by train
Traveling around Georgia by train is not as convenient as it might seem at first glance. The mountainous terrain did not allow the creation of an extensive railway network here. But just from Tbilisi to Batumi a modern railway has been laid. It is part of a large (and the only such) network in the entire country: Rustavi-Batumi.
The Tbilisi - Batumi train departs from the capital's central railway station (Vokzalnaya Square, 2), located in the very heart of the city (located right there). You can buy train tickets both at the station ticket offices and at other sales offices that are open until 18:00.
- Chavchavadze street, 27.
- Mazniashvili street, 5.
In advance, for example, from Russia, train tickets can be purchased on the following sites. Both portals have a Russian-language version.
- railway.ge.
- www.biletebi.ge
Regarding the first resource, which is the official website of the Georgian railways, they often write that it is impossible for foreigners to buy tickets on it, that is, being outside of Georgia. Personally, it didn’t work out for me either. If the situation has changed (I tried to buy tickets in April 2016), please let me know in the comments. But with the help of the second resource, the train tickets were successfully purchased. The purchase process on the website biletebi.ge is described in a separate article, which is called: .
Modern high-speed trains of European level travel from Tbilisi to Batumi. Trains are single- and double-decker, and all trains have seats. I’ll immediately answer the question of how long it takes to travel from Tbilisi to Batumi – about 5 hours. You can buy a ticket in first class (more comfortable) or second class. However, there is no significant difference between them, and the price difference is more than double.
Trains run regularly, departing from Tbilisi three times a day (schedule for 2018):
- Train 802/801 – at 08:00 (double-decker train of the Swiss company Stadler, arrival in Batumi at 13:00).
- Train 804/803 – at 17:35 (double-decker train, arrival in Batumi at 22:35).
- Train 812 is a night train. Departs from Tbilisi at 00:35. Arrival in Batumi - 06:00.
Just in case, it is better to check the current schedule and route Tbilisi - Batumi on the above sites. Tickets go on sale 40 days before the train departs.
Arrival of the train in Batumi
Please note that the Tbilisi-Batumi train arrives in Batumi. It’s just that before he arrived in the suburbs of his destination - a populated area. From that station to the center of Batumi it took about 15 minutes. Now the trains arrive at the modern, opened only in 2015, station in Batumi. From here to the city center, a distance of 8 kilometers can be covered by minibus for 40 tetri or by taxi for 10 lari (they stand at the exit from the station).
How to get from Tbilisi to Batumi by bus/minibus
Intercity transport is much better developed in Georgia than trains, so the Tbilisi-Batumi route can be covered in several ways. From Batumi it is easy to get to other resort villages on the Black Sea coast - and others.
To Batumi by bus
The first of these is a trip by bus from the Metro Georgia carrier. The company is private, has been transporting passengers for several years and operates according to European standards. All details can be found on the carrier’s website – geometro.ge.
The Tbilisi – Batumi bus regularly departs from the Ortachala bus station on Gulia Street, 1. The carrier’s central office is also located here. In addition, flight tickets can be bought online on the website or at other offices (you can also find out the best way to get from Tbilisi to Batumi). Just don't be surprised by the answer bus
- Vekua street, 3.
- D. Agmashenebeli street, 148.
Flights depart several times a day. I won’t say exactly how long the Tbilisi-Batumi bus takes, since I chose the train myself, but the carrier claims that the journey will take 6.5 hours.
A ticket for any flight costs 25 GEL, and for this price you get a whole range of services: unlimited Wi-Fi, tea or coffee, several newspapers and magazines, a multimedia monitor in the back of the seat, official insurance. Traveling with Metro Georgia beats a trip on private minibuses in all respects. But if you are looking for how to get from Tbilisi to Batumi right now, then minibuses can be a salvation.
To Batumi by minibus
A trip by minibus has one significant advantage - they depart almost constantly. The disadvantages include less comfort (old cars) and greater danger (drivers are known for their love of high speeds). Both the travel time (about 6 hours) and the cost (25 GEL) are similar to the bus, but you get much less for them. Although it is almost impossible to avoid traveling by minibus in Georgia, and in reality it turns out that the devil is not as scary as he is painted.
Be that as it may, you can travel the Tbilisi-Batumi route by car, that is, by minibus, from the Didube bus station, Karaleti Street, 4 (next to the Didube metro station). The minibus parking lot in Batumi is located directly opposite the central bus station building. Tickets can be purchased at any time at the box office, or you can negotiate with the driver directly. In this case, there is a chance that he will lose several lari. The destination is often written only in Georgian, so check with the driver/passengers again so as not to go to another city.
In Batumi by rented car
The distance from Tbilisi to Batumi is about 380 kilometers. The road in this direction is comfortable, the road surface allows you to drive at a decent speed, with the exception of passes, of course. It is better to rent a car for a trip to Georgia in advance, especially during the high season. Otherwise, there is a risk of being left without a car of the desired class. Read about traffic in Georgia, behavior on the roads, fines, pitfalls and other nuances.
Transfer from Tbilisi to Batumi
Even at the Tbilisi airport, immediately exiting the “clean zone” you will be surrounded by private taxi drivers who will vying with each other to offer to take you anywhere at a ridiculous price. In fact, it will be overestimated (usually twice). Read more about taxis to Tbilisi from the airport at. Of course, they will offer to organize a transfer from Tbilisi to Batumi and the price for everyone (according to them) will be the lowest in the city. Whether you go with such cab drivers or not is up to you.
I recommend arranging your transfer in advance. For example, check with the hotel where you are staying. Often the transfer service is also provided by the owners of apartments that can be rented through Airbnb (read how to get a discount on your first booking in this service). The third option is to order a transfer Tbilisi - Batumi on the Internet. I recommend the GoTrip service - the local guys are tired of fighting the arbitrariness of taxi drivers and have agreed with adequate drivers. All prices that you see on the website are final and will definitely not increase. Another big plus of the service is that you can choose a specific driver and a specific car. You can pay for the transfer Tbilisi - Batumi either immediately (with a bank card) or on the spot - to the driver. For example, the cost of a taxi from Tbilisi to Batumi starts from $96. You can order a car directly to Tbilisi airport - from there you will be driven to Batumi for a price starting from $99.
It is especially profitable to order a transfer if you come to Georgia with a group: the more people there are, the cheaper the trip will be.
Of course, you cannot compare an individual transfer with a train, bus, or even more so with a minibus. The level of comfort is incomparable.
How to get from Tbilisi to Batumi by plane
The Tbilisi-Batumi plane is operated by Georgian Airlines. Every season, the schedule, number of flights, and ticket prices change, so it’s best to check the latest information on Aviasales. Let me remind you that the distance from Tbilisi to Batumi is very short, so the travel time will be only 30-35 minutes. Below you can see on what days and what time planes fly on the route Tbilisi - Batumi and back.
Flights from Tbilisi to Batumi can also be purchased on Aviasales. You can also try to purchase them at Tbilisi airport. It is located 17 kilometers from the city, connected to the center by a proprietary bus and several. The situation is similar in Batumi - planes arrive at the airport 12 kilometers from the center of the main resort of Adjara.
Excursion Tbilisi - Batumi
I am often asked if there is an excursion from Tbilisi to Batumi. The answer to this question is simple: remember how long it is to travel from Tbilisi to Batumi. And you will understand that it is difficult to organize such an excursion. Now I'm talking about a trip within one day. But it’s quite possible to purchase a one-night excursion to Batumi from local residents. Usually it looks like this: you are taken by car from Tbilisi to the main resort of Adjara, shown the sights of Batumi, perhaps, or other places (you can immediately agree on a list of them), placed in a guesthouse or with one of your hospitable relatives, the next day taken back to Tbilisi.
Now you know how to get from Tbilisi to Batumi and have already decided on one of the ways. Please ask any questions via the comment system. Please rate the article, so I can see that I am not writing this blog in vain.
In love with Georgia, Igor OZIN.
How to get from Tbilisi to Batumi: all ways
4.8 (95.24%) VOTED BY 21As I wrote above, the best way to get from Tbilisi to Batumi is by high-speed train. Day or night - depends on the time of arrival (arrival) in Tbilisi.
- day double-decker is a modern double-decker train (No. 802/801 and No. 804/803) of the Swiss company Stadler Rail Group. Everything is very stylish and thoughtful. You can get on the train using either a paper ticket or a QR code.
There is Wi-Fi (though the speed is not very good), sockets near the seats, spacious and clean toilets, security has been thought out (there is security on the train), a separate place for large luggage and smoking is prohibited. There are no snacks on board, but water bottles are provided free of charge in first class. The train stops in Ureki, Kobuleti and at the central railway station in Batumi (terminal). The journey takes 5 hours.
- daily regular - less modern, but quite normal train (No. 806/805 and No. 808/807);
- night - the same ordinary Georgian train as the previous one, without any frills. Many may think that since the train is night, the seats are sleeping. This is wrong. Only highly trained tourists who can do it while sitting will be able to sleep.
Prices
25 lari ($9.3 or 610 rubles) - train ticket Tbilisi-Batumi
61 lari ($22.5 or 1485 rubles) - Tbilisi-Batumi train ticket first class
40 tetri (0.4 lari) ($0.15 or 10 rubles) - minibus railway station - Batumi center
10 lari ($3.71 or 245 rubles) - taxi railway station - Batumi center
You can buy train tickets online in advance. During the season, I recommend not to rely on chance, but to book from home. This can be done on the website of the Georgian railways (registration is required and sometimes payment does not go through), on the website biletebi.ge (I bought here, registration is required and there is a small commission) and tkt.ge (for those who are fluent in English). Tickets go on sale 40 days before the train departs. It is better to check the schedule and availability directly on the website.
Double-decker Stadler train - inside the carriage
There is a separate place for large luggage
Stadler double-decker train - station in Batumi
Getting to the train station in Tbilisi will not be difficult - the railway station is located next to the Station Square metro station (Vokzalnaya sq., 2). In Batumi there is only one road near the station. The stop is right in front of the building. Almost any passing minibus goes to the city center (just in case, check with the driver, he will tell you).
Minibus No. 29 on which I got to the city
Bus Tbilisi Batumi
Plan B in case it is impossible to get there by train. I confess that I haven’t had the opportunity to travel by bus to Batumi yet. According to reviews, the bus is quite modern and comfortable.
In Tbilisi, the departure point is the Ortachala bus station (Google it as “Ortachala bus station”). It is better to get to the bus station by taxi (walking distance from the nearest Isani metro station is about 2 km). The bus arrives in Batumi at the address: st. Gogolya, 1 (also not the center). To get to the center, as in Tbilisi, you will have to take a taxi.
Departure daily. The movement interval is several times a day. Travel time 6 hours.
Prices
25-30 GEL (depending on the season) - Tbilisi-Batumi bus ticket
You can buy bus tickets online, at company offices and in the so-called. payboxes, which are found literally at every step in the center of Tbilisi. When buying online at the official metrogeorgia.ge, you can immediately choose the right place. There is no need to print anything; tickets should be obtained in hand at the Ortachala station ticket office before boarding.
Minibus Tbilisi Batumi
A great way to immediately immerse yourself in real “non-booklet” Georgia and feel the local flavor. The local flavor includes drivers smoking through the windows, loud-voiced passengers discussing politics with other passengers, limited space (both for the passenger and his luggage) and, of course, recklessness.
In Tbilisi, the departure point is the bus station near the Didube metro station. In Batumi, minibuses start from the central bus station (Google it as “Batumi bus station”). You can find the desired minibus using the corresponding sign (in tourist places such as Batumi, the name of the final destination is usually duplicated in English).
Movement interval every hour. Travel time depends on the day of the week and traffic. On average 6 hours.
Prices
25 lari ($9.28 or 610 rubles) - travel on the Tbilisi-Batumi minibus
This method is insurance in case of lack of train or bus tickets. How to get from Tbilisi to Batumi by minibus without excruciating pain? Relax and catch the passing wind mixed with tobacco smoke from the driver's door window. This is Georgia, baby!
The name of the destination is duplicated in English
By car - your own or rented?
Your own is always better than a rented one. So the captain suggests the obvious. In practice, the charm of a personal car is often shattered over the considerable distance that daredevils from Moscow and real heroes from St. Petersburg will have to overcome just to get to hospitable Georgia. I would like to convey special greetings to car enthusiasts from Siberia and the Far East. Guys, this is your case. No options.
Prices
110-120 lari ($40-45 or 2600-3000 rubles) per day - the average price for renting an economy class car
2.52 lari ($0.94 or 61 rubles) - diesel
2.36 lari ($0.88 or 57 rubles) - 92
2.49 lari ($0.92 or 60 rubles) - 95
2.59 lari ($0.96 or 63 rubles) - 98
The distance between Tbilisi and Batumi is about 375 km. It can be covered by car in 5-6 hours.
In fairness, it is worth noting that everything is not so simple either. And in general, renting a car as a way to get from Tbilisi to Batumi is viable only in cases where the car is rented for the duration of the entire trip. Renting a car solely for the purpose of moving from Tbilisi to Batumi is definitely not the best idea. Are you bringing your mother-in-law, children, a dog and two kittens? Then you better order.
If you rent a car, then one like the one in the photo. It’s convenient to check prices on Myrentacar.com - the website of local car rental companies. Will give you the best price. The Tbilisi-Batumi road is one of the best in the country. But there are other examples. The photo below shows the Mestia-Ushguli road in Svaneti.
Why do we need at least a compact SUV in Georgia?
Then, as a rule, the most terrible roads lead to the most beautiful places...
Travel companion search services
Now let’s dilute the boring standard options with exotic ones. This method is good for extroverts who easily make new acquaintances and who do not know the best way for themselves to get from Tbilisi to Batumi other than spending 6 hours in the same car with their new acquaintance(s).
Prices
30 lari ($12.5 or 750 rubles) - the average price of “participation” on the Tbilisi-Batumi route
The idea of such a service is good in theory, but in practice it is a little more complicated. It is still quite difficult to find someone who decided to get from Tbilisi to Batumi and share their costs with others (and this is exactly the idea promoted by the BlaBlaCar service) specifically in this direction. The overwhelming majority are professional drivers who simply gather a group of willing drivers. Will she get it together or not? - the question is always open. Unlike yours or, as well as, the photo will have to be taken from the window of a moving car. The chances that the driver will slow down in places he likes are by no means great.
The main thing is, of course, to have time to check in on social networks
Transfer Tbilisi Batumi
How to get from Tbilisi to Batumi with a large group, at the same time fit all the heavy luggage, not lose all your many friends along the way, and have time to take a bunch of bright photos and successful selfies? There is no option - order a transfer. It makes sense to use it on the airport-railway station in Tbilisi if you decide to go to Batumi by train. Now there are already good services with more or less adequate prices. They will meet you with a sign, seat you and take you to the right place. The main thing is to be comfortable. When there are a lot of you, be it a family or a company, completing the quest “airport (getting coins for payment)-bus-subway-train-bus-walk from the stop to the hotel” may not be the best start to a long-awaited vacation.
Prices
238 lari ($99 or 5930 rubles) - price for a car with a capacity of up to 6 people
338 lari ($140 or 8400 rubles) - price for a car with a capacity of up to 8 people
For transfer I use Yandex.Taxi, which also works in Georgia. They have a fairly large selection and choosing a specific car will not be difficult. A similar service in Georgia is simply a must have. Public transport outside large cities is not very developed. At the same time, there are many picturesque places that can only be reached by car.
Airplane
You can fly from Tbilisi to Batumi using the Georgian airline Georgian Airways. When choosing this option, you will have to deal with two airports at once - in and in. Follow the links to read how to get to and from airports. Flight schedules change from season to season - it is better to check the website. Flight time is 35-40 minutes.
Prices
UPD: Prices for direct flights Tbilisi-Batumi are currently unavailable. Flights were cancelled. When will they be available and will they be available at all? - unknown.
You can check prices and book a ticket on the same good old Aviasales and Skyscanner. The method could be interesting, if not for one “but” - the time it takes is almost the same as on a high-speed train. Do not forget about the time required to get to/from the airport and go through pre-flight security (2 hours, minimum). Therefore, in my understanding, the option of getting from Tbilisi to Batumi by plane disappears in principle.
P.S.
Friends! Thank you for reading to the end. I get a bonus for showing interest, and you get a bonus for registering via the link. This is how we will say thank you to each other.
