Where to relax in Georgia by the sea. What is the sea like in Georgia: name, climate, best coastal resorts, photos and reviews. Where are the best Georgian beaches - photos
The Black Sea coast is one of the most accessible holiday destinations in the CIS, so today I’ll tell you about the resorts in Georgia where it’s best to relax. The fact is that on the entire Black Sea coast only Georgia has unique conditions at resorts. It’s beautiful, useful, and inexpensive, and if something happens you can go to the mountains or just sit out in a cozy town. Let's figure it out.
Georgian resorts where it is better to relax
It’s worth starting with the fact that in Georgia the mountains approach the sea almost closely. Therefore, here the usefulness of sea air is combined with the no less usefulness of mountain air, resulting in a double effect. You can swim in the sea from the beginning of July to the end of September, but tourists go to Georgia all year round. And this is another thing that Georgian seaside resorts are good for – a mild and favorable climate.
Don’t forget about other advantages: dozens of historical monuments even in the smallest coastal village, the small size of the country, which allows you to travel quite quickly, the legendary hospitality of Georgians. Seriously, the best seaside resorts in Georgia were created by local residents. I advise you to stay in the private sector, so you can fully experience the love of Georgians for guests.
And now I’ll tell you about the most interesting seaside resorts. Let's start with the main thing!
Don't forget about insurance when planning your trip. A detailed article on this topic by me. Please note that it costs a little more, but the intermediary company is the leader in global insurance. Very good reviews. Who likes to choose... It will offer policy options from more than 15 insurance companies.
Batumi
The capital of Adjara and the main seaside resort of Georgia. It is located almost in the very south of the country, but buses and planes fly here regularly from Tbilisi and Kutaisi. There are many hotels, hostels and private houses in Batumi that are rented out by local residents. If you are traveling for the first time and don’t know which resort in Georgia to choose, then Batumi will be an excellent option. Here you can relax by the sea, stroll through the modern center, and go to the mountains.
I personally consider Batumi to be the main advantages. It stretches along the entire coast of the city, and everyone can find their own corner. In the far south, the beach is deserted; tourists rarely come here even at the height of the season. In the central part, next to the hotels, there is a lot of entertainment on the beach: water rides and slides. Batumi's developed infrastructure is one of the best resorts in Adjara. There is also a minus - the beach is completely pebble, which not everyone will like.
Batumi often hosts music and themed festivals, and the city center will never be boring. That’s why there are the most tourists here among the country’s resorts. So I advise you to book accommodation in advance, a month or even more. You can always fly in and negotiate on the spot, but it’s not a fact that you will get comfortable accommodation. Local residents tend to embellish the merits of their homes.

Georgian resorts with pebble beaches
Most Georgian seaside resorts have pebble beaches. They start from the border with Turkey in Sarpi and stretch all the way to Kobuleti. There is some sand here, but it is the most distant beaches of the village.
Kobuleti
We continue to explore the resorts of Georgia where it is better to relax. Kobuleti is located 20 kilometers from Batumi, and is in many ways similar to the capital of Adjara. This is a prestigious resort, which is chosen by young people. Without any stretch of the imagination, Kobuleti is considered a city, so it has a very developed infrastructure and a lot of entertainment. But the majority of them are not water-based, although there are the obligatory yachts, catamarans and slides on the beach. The authorities paid special attention to shows, festivals and club recreation.
As for the beach, there is one here, as much as 12 kilometers! It consists of small pebbles and is quite crowded throughout the season. But the quality of the beach, cabins and other attributes is not up to par, so I advise you to go to Kobuleti if the sea is not as important to you as entertainment. If you are looking for a quiet holiday without unnecessary tourists, then other Black Sea resorts in Georgia are suitable for you.
By the way, in addition to young people, there are a lot of elderly people in Kobuleti! Here, a pine forest approaches almost close to the sea, and mineral springs gush out 2 kilometers from the city. Therefore, the resort has many sanatoriums where almost everyone is treated. In terms of prices, Kobuleti is almost no different from Batumi, except that the private sector is a little cheaper.
Sarpi
Here is the first unusual Georgian Black Sea resort. Sarpi is a small village in the extreme south of Georgia, a few meters from the border with Turkey. Before my first trip to Georgia, I read a lot of reviews about Sarpi and the cleanliness of the local beach and water. Frankly, there are prettier resorts in Georgia. Where is better is up to you to decide, so I’ll just list the pros and cons of Sarpi.
The only definite plus is the really clean sea. There are no rivers nearby, and the current from Turkey brings only clean water. So the reviews weren’t deceiving here. This is where the visible benefits ended for me. Maybe you will find something nicer here, but I’ll tell you about the disadvantages:
- A small beach - on one side it is covered by rocks, on the other there is a border.
- Noise and bustle - there is a road next to the beach, and a checkpoint very close.
- There is little entertainment - there are literally a couple of slides on the small beach, in the village it is no better.
- Expensive housing - Sarpi is clearly overrated, so living here is not cheap.
Chakvi
The Black Sea resorts of Georgia are very diverse, and Chakvi is the complete opposite of Batumi or Kobuleti. The village is located exactly in the middle between these two resorts, each is a 15-minute drive away. The resort itself is deserted and quiet; tourists rarely come here. Therefore, living is quite cheap, and if you find a nice house in the private sector, then a free tomorrow is guaranteed!
Among the main advantages of Chakvi, I will highlight the following:
- Proximity to (1.5 km) and the Petra Fortress (7 km).
- A 12-kilometer road leads from the village to the Mtirala National Park.
- A small number of people on the beach due to the unpopularity of the resort.
- Beautiful landscapes, tea plantations and eucalyptus groves by the sea.
But if you are looking for noisy and dynamic resorts in Georgia by the sea, then Chakvi is not suitable. There is almost no beach infrastructure here, and there is no entertainment in the village itself. A highway and a railway partially pass near the beach, and many houses on the embankment are gradually being destroyed. In a word, Chakvi is a quiet village that has not yet been appreciated by tourists. Maybe it's for the better.
Makhinjauri
Before the opening of the main railway station in Batumi, the station in Makhinjauri was the end point of the road from Tbilisi. Now this is another quiet village, which is one of the best seaside resorts in Georgia. I recommend staying here to all lovers of a combined holiday. That is, you can come to Makhinjauri, rent an inexpensive house, you can swim right on the shore, and the next day you can drive to Batumi in 5-10 minutes!
Recently the village entered the city limits, so it is likely that there will be more tourists here. So try to make it while the resort is still a quiet corner next to its more popular neighbor. The beach here is made of small pebbles, there is not much entertainment, but why if Batumi is nearby? You can also ride in the other direction – to the botanical garden.
Mtsvane-Kontskhi
I talked in detail about Mtsvane-Kontskhi in articles about the botanical garden and the beaches of Batumi. This is a very small village that lives off the botanical garden. If you are looking for quiet resorts in Georgia where it is better to relax, then think about Mtsvane-Kontskhi. By the way, another name – Cape Verde – sounds more familiar, but in Georgia itself it is used no less often.
Usually people come to this resort from Batumi, but there is also a private sector. You can even stay in the botanical garden itself, on the campsite! The price will be the same, but it is much more interesting than an ordinary apartment. Don't forget your tent if you want to stay here overnight. Divers especially love Mtsvane-Kontskhi.
Tsikhisdziri
Perhaps the most unpopular resort among all the Black Sea ones. The village of Tsikhisdziri is located 20 kilometers from Batumi, and 8 kilometers from Kobuleti. Most often, it is not even included in Georgian seaside resorts, because people come here not to the beaches, but to the fortress. The Byzantine fortress of Petra stands 80 meters above sea level, it is a fairly large complex, but has already suffered from time.
The beach is located right under the mountain; you can get to it along two or three paths, which are difficult to notice. But there are no people on the beach either in winter or in summer, and the healthy sea air, together with the effect of the neighboring pine forest, makes Tsikhisdziri a good option for people with diseases of the respiratory system. Of course, there is no entertainment either; housing is limited to the private sector.
Kvariati
Not all small resorts in Georgia are boring and quiet. Kvariati has beach activities, infrastructure, and hotels. Not all Black Sea resorts in Georgia can boast such a favorable location as Kvariati. The village is located between Sarpi and Gonio, 14 kilometers from Batumi. On the one hand, there are already mountains here, which adds beauty to the landscape. On the other hand, you won’t find a noisy highway or customs office like in Sarpi, so you can relax in silence. In general, Kvariati is divided into beach and mountain parts, so you can choose the most pleasant place.
The small seaside resorts of Georgia and Kvariati in particular rarely attract crowds of tourists. There are almost no bars and restaurants here, except in hotels, so it’s better to go to Batumi for food and wine. But on the beach there are boats, scooters, and children's entertainment. The most interesting thing about Kvariati is that it is the only diving center in the country. Here you can learn diving and even look at sunken ships.
Gonio
Another resort in the vicinity of Batumi, 10 kilometers from the city. Gonio is now actively developing, hotels and restaurants are being built here, but so far it is sparsely populated. The village is divided in half by a highway, so be sure to check if you are renting a house where the house is located. All the southern resorts of Georgia, where it is better to relax, are located on the very shore of the Black Sea, but in some rivers flow nearby. A definite plus of Gonio is that there is clean water here, because the village is located up to the Chorokhi River.
I almost forgot about the main attraction of Gonio - the fortress of the Roman Empire! The complex is located right next to the village and crowds of tourists come here for its sake. Therefore, there are also a lot of people on the beach in the summer, but you can always take a minibus and go to the neighboring resort of Kvariati. Or, conversely, go for fun in Batumi.
Georgian resorts with sandy beaches
Beyond Kobuleti, sandy beaches begin that stretch all the way to Abkhazia.
By the river
The only resort on the list where the beach consists of sand rather than pebbles. For this feature, I include Ureki among the best seaside resorts in Georgia! The village is located 50 kilometers from Batumi, much closer to Poti. There is little entertainment or civilization here, the resort is relatively quiet. But now it is becoming known as a sanatorium center, largely thanks to that very sand. They say that it has magnetic properties and cures almost all diseases.
Ureki has an inexpensive private sector, but there are also hotels and boarding houses. You can go for a walk and have fun in Poti. Nearby is the large Kolkheti National Park with tropical plants. You can also go to Kobuleti for local youth parties.
Review of sea resorts in Georgia
4.7 (94.29%) VOTED BY 14Georgia is a country where everything seems to be specially created for relaxation and treatment, where all nature is a shining example of harmony, endless diversity and rare beauty.
Georgia is famous for its various resorts - balneological, mountain climatic and therapeutic mud. The mild climate, clean air, abundance of thermal springs and deposits of healing mud, as well as the beaches of the Black Sea coast, make Georgia a country for every taste. These places attract with the healing properties of the mountain and sea climate, the abundance of sun, and the richest mineral springs, which makes it possible to successfully treat many diseases.
The coastal part of Adjara is a favorite destination for tourists arriving in Georgia and is distinguished by its diverse resort areas.
Batumi
Batumi is one of the most popular tourist destinations on the Black Sea coast. This is a city at the crossroads of times and religions, in the contrast of modern and ancient architecture.
Batumi Boulevard is the most important attraction of the city. Construction of the boulevard began in 1881, when the governor of the Batumi region entrusted the construction of a park along the city embankment to German gardeners Ressler and Reyer.
Today the length of the boulevard has already reached 7 kilometers and is conditionally divided into “new” and “old”. But the unusually beautiful park is still there. In recent years it has been decorated with modern sculptures, original benches and fountains.
The city is located in a subtropical climate. Every year thousands of tourists come here not only from Georgia itself, but also from all over the world. In 2012, the American Academy of Hospitality named Batumi the best tourist destination of the year.
In the second half of the 20th century, foreign European architects worked to give the city a modern look. The development of Batumi is closely connected with global economic and industrial development: it was during this period that the famous Nobel brothers and the Rothschild family began their food activities in Batumi.
Today Batumi is changing its appearance. New hotels, tourist and sports facilities are being built. A fashionable shopping center-gallery with swimming pools, a yacht club and attractions for children is being built. The city hosts many international festivals and events every year.
Batumi was first mentioned in the works of the Greek philosopher Aristotle in the 4th century BC, but archaeologists have found evidence that there were settlements on the site of modern Batumi back in the 1st-2nd millennium BC.
Cape Verde
One of the most beautiful seaside resorts in Georgia, Cape Verde or Mtsvane Kontskhi, is located just nine kilometers from Batumi. This is one of the most popular holiday destinations for both visitors and locals.
This place received the name Cape Verde because of its year-round green cover. The resort's climate is subtropical, with abundant heat and moisture, which encourages the growth of tropical plants. The total area of the garden is about 120 hectares, which contains a magnificent collection of 5 thousand species, of which almost half are tree and shrub species. Only 104 of them can be found in the Caucasus. In one territory they coexist perfectly: blue eucalyptus and Japanese sakura, cactus plantations and a bamboo grove, palm trees and giant spruce trees.

Hot summers promote sunbathing, as well as the treatment of respiratory diseases.
The improvement of this place began at the end of the 19th century. On the beautiful slopes of Cape Verde, the Batumi Botanical Garden of world significance was laid out, which annually welcomes thousands of vacationers and guests.
The coastal strip of Cape Verde is incredibly picturesque. The fine-pebble beaches are always full of vacationers, including lovers of active recreation (diving and windsurfing). Wild rocky beaches are open for extreme sports enthusiasts.
Kobuleti
Kobuleti is a real pearl of Adjara. The resort is located in the Colchis lowland and differs from other seaside resorts in the region with its special microclimate. People come here to sunbathe on a clean pebble beach, breathe in the fresh sea air, admire the magnificent views, and, of course, treat their health.
The resort area of Kobuleti, located 20 kilometers from Batumi, stretches for more than 10 kilometers along the coast. The resort is distinguished by a mild subtropical climate, ionized air, pine forests, hot sun and warm sea, which is recommended for both relaxation and treatment.
As throughout Georgia, the beaches here are municipal, and therefore clean and well-groomed. Small pebbles and clear seas give you the pleasure of a beach holiday with the unique natural healing properties of black magnetic sands.
Today in Kobuleti such a method of treatment as thalassotherapy or treatment by the sea and sea air is very widely used. Scientists have found that sea water, compared to fresh water, increases the metabolic function of the skin by more than 25%.
Chakvi
Chakvi is a small resort, completely surrounded by greenery, located on the Black Sea coast of Adjara, 17 kilometers from Batumi. In Chakvi the beach is pebble, only at the very edge of the water there is sand, mainly made up of small shells and pebbles.
The name of the resort is associated with tea. Tea culture has been developed here since ancient times, and therefore the resort is called the capital of Georgian tea. In Chakvi you can see huge tea plantations, which are spread over a fairly large area. In addition, here you can admire plantations of Japanese tangerines and bamboo.
Gonio
In Gonio, in addition to the clear sea and mountain slopes, tourists and vacationers are attracted by the eucalyptus grove located along the road and endowing vacationers with a healing aroma that brings health benefits. The beach is large pebbles, like everywhere else in the vicinity of Batumi.
In addition, vacationers in Gonio, which is located 11 kilometers from Batumi, are attracted by the ruins of an ancient fortress of the same name.
Gonio Fortress (or Gonio-Apsaros Fortress) is the oldest fortress in Georgia. The history of the fortress goes back several thousand years. The oldest archaeological layers excavated by archaeologists on the territory of the fortress date back to the 15th-17th centuries BC. There is a legend that the name Apsaros comes from the ancient Greek myth of the Argonauts. According to legend, it was in this place that the son of King Aeta, Apsyrtus, who was killed by Jason, was buried.
There are many legends and myths associated with the fortress. On the territory of the fortress there is a grave, which today is considered to be the grave of the Apostle Matthew - one of the twelve apostles of Jesus Christ, whom the Savior accepted into his circle instead of Judas Iscariot.
According to one version, the Apostle Matthew, after the death of Christ, came to the Gonio fortress and stayed here to preach. The tomb of the Apostle Matthew is located on the territory of the Roman praetorium (from Latin literally “the commander’s tent”).
Based on the enormous historical and cultural significance of the Gonio fortress, the Georgian government declared it a museum-reserve in 1994.
Kvariati
Kvariati is one of the most popular resorts on the Black Sea coast, which has an excellent location, combining mountain air with sea air. A distinctive feature of the resort is crystal clear sea water, thanks to which many vacationers and also business people come here.
Kvariati is located 14 kilometers south of Batumi, not far from the Georgian-Turkish border. The beach is pebble and clean, one kilometer long. Kvariati has earned its popularity due to its deep waters and attractive underwater world, which is ideal for diving.

That is why at the beginning of the beach, almost at the very rocks, there is the only diving center in Georgia, where you can get training, dive with a mask and fins, and try diving of various types, including on sunken ships.
In addition to relaxation and entertainment, together with other Black Sea resorts in Adjara, it is recommended for the treatment of the vascular-central nervous system and gynecological diseases.
By the river
Ureki is one of the most popular seaside climatic resorts, located in the Ozurgeti region (Western Georgia) 50 kilometers from Batumi. The proximity of the warm Black Sea contributes to the formation of a humid subtropical climate in the Ureki area.
The coast of Ureki is a strip of pine and eucalyptus forests, which, combined with sea air, fills everything around with a very special intoxicating aroma.
The rich gifts of nature - the sea, the sun, fine velvety sand with magnetic properties - make the Ureki resort a unique place for active recreation and treatment.
Unlike other Black Sea resorts, there are sandy beaches here. And not simple ones - fine-grained sand is enriched with magnetite, which is called “magnetic sand”. People come here to improve their health - doctors claim that Ureki magnetic sands help with diseases of the musculoskeletal system and nervous system.
The healing properties of the magnetic field have been known since ancient times. They were used for treatment by the Egyptians, Greeks, and Indian yogis. In modern medicine, the magnetic field is widely used as a physiotherapeutic method called magnetotherapy.
The main reserves of such sand on the Black Sea coast are Bulgaria and Georgia. Georgian sands contain 2-3% magnetite, but in some cases the content can reach 70% - in small layers in the upper layers. Bulgarian magnetic sand placers are wider than Georgian ones, but the maximum content of magnetite in them is significantly lower. Black magnetic sands on the beaches of Georgia are a rare and unique phenomenon.
Grigoleti
Grigoleti is one of the most famous Georgian Black Sea resorts located in the southwestern part of the Colchis lowland. On one side, Grigoleti is washed by the waters of the Black Sea, and on the other, it is decorated with mountains.
Most of the coast is covered with pine forest. Grigoleti beach consists of magnetic sand, especially useful for joint and rheumatic diseases. Also on the territory of the resort is Lake Grigoleti.
According to legend, the Golden Fleece was kept here and the beautiful Medea lived.

Georgia. Anaklia
Spanish architect Alberto Domingo was invited to build the resort. He changed the geometry of the coastal strip, designed a new embankment, laid out a large amusement park and built the longest pedestrian bridge in Europe (540 meters), which connects the resort with the village of Ganmukhuri, located on the other side of the Enguri River.
At the moment, the coast is being built up with modern hotels and tourist facilities. A deep-sea port and a Free Industrial Zone will be built in Anaklia, which will contribute to the development of the region and, accordingly, tourism infrastructure and the growth of tourists.

Which resort in Georgia to choose for a beach holiday
Where to go on a beach holiday in Georgia? The country's most famous seaside resort is. This is one of the favorite vacation spots not only for Russians, but also for residents of the CIS countries. Batumi will appeal to those who want to relax by the sea without leaving civilization. Here, ancient buildings coexist with skyscrapers, and all this is right on the Black Sea coast.
In addition to relaxing by the sea, in Batumi you can visit the central area - the attractions are collected there. These are singing fountains, a summer theater, a dolphinarium, and a little further - the Botanical Garden. With children in Batumi you can visit the dolphinarium, zoo and Seaside Park.
Near the Botanical Garden there is Cape Verde beach - one of the most beautiful on the Georgian coast. During your seaside holiday in Georgia, don’t forget to visit this picturesque place!
Not far from Batumi there is a village Gonio. There is practically no entertainment here, but the nature is very beautiful. There are ancient houses and fortresses. The beaches in Gonio are more secluded and calm - only casual tourists need to be wary. This combination - the lack of infrastructure and a beautiful natural landscape - is typical of many Georgian resorts, but if you are going to explore the country from the inside, then these are the best options for relaxing by the sea in Georgia.
Kobuleti is also a popular holiday destination in Georgia. First of all, the resort is known for its healing properties - clean air and forest area. The beaches in Kobuleti are small-pebble, and entertainment includes yachting, catamaran and scooter rentals.
According to tourists, the roads in Kobuleti are not very good, but in the north of the resort you can easily stay in a tent on the shore. Villages are also suitable for a more secluded holiday. Shekvetili, Grigoleti or Tsikhisdziri- you will find a wild beach holiday in Georgia right here.

By the river- the resort is more relaxed and inexpensive. The uniqueness of this place is the black magnetic sands, which have healing properties. The sandy beach in this region of Georgia (in fact, Ureki is a small village) is very attractive to tourists, because pebbles are not suitable for everyone. Tourists note that these places are characterized by rain, and as a result, mosquitoes. However, lovers of a relaxing beach holiday will love this corner of Georgia.

There are also beaches in Georgia with mountain air and crystal clear water. First of all, this is Kvariati - a village near the border with Turkey. The combination of mountain and sea air makes this place unique in its healing properties, and it is also the only place in the country where you can go diving.
To summarize, Batumi is a large modern city with infrastructure, Kobuleti is a small mid-level resort, and Ureki is a small village with sandy beaches.
According to tourists, the cleanest sea in the Batumi region is in the villages Sarpi, Kvariati, Gonio, in a southerly direction. In the north of Batumi, the best beaches are in the area Cape Verde.
Prices for tours and hotels in Georgia in 2019
Georgia is a fairly inexpensive country. Let's consider prices for tours to Georgia with a seaside holiday (Batumi, Kobuleti) with departure from Moscow.
In July 2019, prices for tours to Georgia start from 60 thousand for two in Kobuleti and from 65 thousand for two in Batumi. For this price you will get a week of beach holiday in a three-star hotel, about 500-1000 meters from the sea. In August, prices are even nicer - from 53 thousand in Kobuleti and from 56 thousand in Batumi (the conditions are the same). But there are almost no all-inclusive holidays in Georgia. Hotels above three stars are very rare, and the rooms in them are many times more expensive.
If you are traveling on your own, you can find accommodation directly on the spot or book online using the Skyscanner Hotels service. For example, in Batumi, a room in a 3* hotel costs from $20 per night, and the location can be very good - literally a few blocks away from the sea. In Kobuleti, prices are even lower - in June the price for a room starts from $16 per night.
Keep in mind that Georgia also has a huge selection of private housing. Search for apartments, apartments or houses through the Airbnb service. There you can choose both original and simply budget accommodation.

Prices in Georgia - 2019
You will remember your seaside holiday in Georgia at reasonable prices. A 1.5 liter bottle of water costs only 1 GEL (about 25 Russian rubles), wine is also inexpensive - from 11 GEL per bottle. A cup of cappuccino costs 3.5 GEL, the same price for a 0.33 liter can of beer.
The average bill for dinner in a restaurant is about 15 GEL. On embankments and in tourist places, food is more expensive. Keep in mind that portions in Georgia are generous, so one dish is often enough for two adults.
You can travel by bus within the city for 0.5 GEL, between villages - 2-3 times more expensive.
Beach infrastructure is also affordable. Renting a sunbed and umbrella costs from 3 to 5 GEL for one thing, depending on the beach - this is the price per day. You can pay by the hour, then an umbrella and a sunbed will cost 1 GEL per hour.

Seaside holidays in Georgia with children
What is important to know if you are going to Georgia on vacation with a child?
You don’t need a visa, but you need to include your child in your passport or get him your own.
If you are planning a seaside holiday in Georgia for less than a week, it is better to stay in Batumi. There is definitely entertainment for both the child and you - a dolphinarium, a water park, walks along the shore and along the embankment. Batumi also has many pharmacies and supermarkets where you can buy medicines and baby food.
For older children, you can order dishes in a cafe, simply specifying that less spices are needed. In addition, almost any menu includes such familiar things as rice or potatoes, so you and your child can eat without any problems.
If you come for 2-3 weeks, resorts with less developed infrastructure are suitable. Kvariati you will enjoy the purest mountain air, By the river- sand and flat bottom. From here you can get to Batumi by bus in about 20 minutes. A ticket costs about 1.5 lari.
An important feature of Georgia is the absence of fresh milk in large cities, only ultra-pasteurized milk, stored for a year. Therefore, living with a child in a small village and buying fresh milk from the locals is a good option; you definitely won’t find this in supermarkets.

To the question “What is the sea like in Georgia?”, tourists answer: it is beautiful - warm and hospitable. The optimal period for a holiday by the sea is from mid-June to September, maximum until the second ten days of October. Later the temperature drops to 15-19 degrees Celsius. Sometimes it rains a lot in June.

Georgia is attractive to tourists thanks to an amazing combination of diverse holiday destinations:
- Black Sea coast with long beaches;
- snowy mountain peaks and beautiful ski resorts;
- mild subtropical climate with warm winters and hot summers;
- beautiful landscapes;
- monuments of ancient architecture and modern architecture;
- local hospitality, and, of course, luxurious cuisine.
Here you can visit several seasons in one day: snow in the mountains, mild spring in the foothills and bright summer on the sea coast, all this attracts tourists from all over the world.
July and August the most suitable months for a holiday in Georgia, the average air temperature is +28 degrees, the sea is from 24 to 28 degrees, sweltering heat is not typical for the local climate, but there are usually a lot of vacationers.
Numerous resorts on the seashore allow you to choose a holiday in fashionable and crowded resorts or secluded in private boarding houses in a forest area. You can swim in May and at the end of October, but this is not for everyone, although there will be no influx of tourists during these periods.
On the map of Georgia there are 340 resorts: mineral springs, mud resorts, mountain slopes and beaches for relaxation. Ancient fortresses coexist with modern water parks and fashionable establishments, this makes Georgia similar to European resorts, and the undoubted advantage is that the locals speak Russian well, especially the older population, and according to tourists, they are happy to come from Russia.
The best beaches in Georgia
The length of the beaches in Georgia is more than 300 km; you can swim for 6-7 months a year. Of course, people hear about such places as Batumi, Sukhum, Anaklia, however, whether the choice falls on large resorts or small coastal villages, Georgia will certainly surprise and be remembered.
Batumi
One of the most famous resorts, visited by thousands of tourists every year. After all, here is the junction of religions and the contrast of ancient and modern architecture. The landmark of the city is Batumi Boulevard, its length is seven kilometers, and construction began in 1881. Since then, a beautiful park founded by German masters Ressler and Reyer has been preserved in Batumi.
During the day you can relax on the beach, walk along the embankment, and in the evening visit numerous entertainment venues that are no worse than in European resorts.
Cable car in Batumi the longest in Europe, its length is about 2600 meters and its height is 250 meters. You definitely need to look at the city from above, it is a wonderful sight. The famous sculpture “Ali and Nino”, which consists of two moving eight-meter statues, is the hallmark of Batumi.
Kobuleti
20 km along the coast from Batumi is located ten-kilometer resort area of Kobuleti. Pine forests, subtropical climate, ionized air and warm sea are recommended not only for relaxation, but also for treatment. The beach with small pebbles is very clean and well-groomed, since all beaches in Georgia are municipal.
Holidays in Georgia by the sea are not only a beautiful tan and a lot of impressions, for example, this resort has a source of medicinal water with a sodium chloride composition. This water is useful for diseases of the cardiovascular system, urinary tract, kidney and gallbladder dysfunction, metabolic problems and nervous disorders, as well as tuberculosis of joints and bones.
Gonio
The combination of mountain air, sea and eucalyptus groves is very good for health. Vacationers enjoy walking here, but the beach has large pebbles, which can cause inconvenience for children. It will be interesting for tourists Gonio fortress, the second name of the Gonio-Apsaros fortress, which is the oldest in Georgia. According to legend, Apsyrtus, the son of King Aert, was buried here, killed by Jason, the hero of the Ancient Greek myths about the Argonauts. The name Apsirta gave the name to the fortress.
This is not the only legend about the fortress. On its territory there is a grave, which is considered the grave of one of Christ’s disciples - the Apostle Matthew. The Apostle was accepted as a disciple of the Savior instead of Judas, and after the death of Jesus he came to this fortress to preach. The Gonio Fortress has been a museum-reserve since 1994.
By the river
The black beach on the Black Sea is about Ureki. Unique sand, washed up by rivers from the mountains over centuries, has this color due to magnetite, the amount of which is very large in the sand. The magnetic properties of sand are unique, and sanatoriums for magnetic therapy were opened here. The name of Magnitity beach itself speaks of its peculiarity, and it is recommended for treatment:
There are also contraindications: asthma, tuberculosis, malignant tumors and blood diseases.
You can simply lie on the beach, sprinkle your entire body with unique sand, and feel how magnetic waves envelop, penetrate and magically affect your entire body. Reviews from tourists about this place are only good.
The uniqueness of the Ureki resort is not only in its healing sand:
- The length of the beach is 5 km, so it is spacious.
- The forest belt of eucalyptus and pine trees, located right behind the embankment, creates a unique healing air.
- On the embankment, starting from the sandy beach, there are numerous hotels and cafes with national cuisine, and entertainment complexes.
- The sea is quite shallow near the shore and is well suited for families with children. In addition, it is very warm.
- For children there are playgrounds and numerous attractions.
Kvariati
The beach is located 15 km from Batumi with a wonderful underwater world due to the deep sea. It is in Kvariati that the only diving center in the country is located with training and rental of equipment necessary for diving. The beach has large pebbles, so for families with children it is better to choose another resort.
Anaklia
Young and modern resort is rapidly gaining popularity among tourists. Dry climate atypical for Georgia, part of the beach with pebbles, part with sand and excellent infrastructure. Since the city has recently begun to turn into an international resort, the roads here are smooth, the hotels are upscale, and there are beach activities - banana boat rides, jet skis, boat rides or yacht trips.
The largest water park on the Black Sea coast is perfect for families with children. In the evening, you can choose entertainment to your taste from dozens of trendy cafes, discos, clubs and casinos.
Chakvi
From June to mid-September The quietest and most secluded beaches near Kobuleti are here. Silence, unique air, a good beach, and for history buffs - the ruins of the old Petri fortress.
Heart of Georgia
Capital of Georgia Tbilisi, is located on the map far from the sea, however, it is a must-visit if you have chosen a holiday in this amazing country. The economic, cultural and spiritual center was founded in the 5th century; the anniversary of 1550 was celebrated in 2008. Previously, the city was called Tiflis and is located in the southeastern part of the country on the banks of the Kura River. The residential areas are arranged in tiers due to the hills surrounding the city. The height of the streets ranges from 420 to almost 1 thousand meters.
Mild winters and hot summers attract tourists. In Tbilisi you can see the ancient ruins of medieval castles, the holy Mount Mtatsminda, which is also called Mount of David, it offers a beautiful panorama of the city.
Located on the banks of the Kura River Metekhi Temple – residence of Georgian kings. The famous baths with sulfur springs, founded in the 16th century. Tourists will appreciate the Orbelian and Motley baths, the first is considered the oldest, and the second the most beautiful of all the baths in Tbilisi. They are unique in that they are located underground.
Another masterpiece of Tbilisi - Shota Rustaveli Avenue with a length of one and a half kilometers. There are boutiques, many shops, hotels, restaurants and shops on it. Also worth seeing is the Bridge of Peace, which is pedestrian and stretches over the Kura River. It is a 156-meter-long steel frame covered in glass and illuminated at night by tens of thousands of light bulbs.
As well as museums, the Academic Theater. Shota Rustaveli, a large botanical garden with beautiful plants and three waterfalls. Tbilisi is a beautiful city, combining modernity and antiquity; reviews from those who have visited it are always enthusiastic.
We are ready to welcome and heal tourists all year round balneological resorts of Georgia: Akhtala, Tskhaltubo, Borjomi, Sairme, Shovi, Surami, Java, Tsagveti. There are more than two thousand sources in total, including sulfide, nitrogen, carbon dioxide, sulfur, radon and others known to science.
Borjomi is one of the most popular resorts, it was known throughout the Soviet Union; at various times it was visited by members of the imperial family, famous writers, and statesmen. Sodium bicarbonate mineral water with natural mineralization is indicated for cardiovascular diseases, gastrointestinal diseases, improving kidney function, nervous disorders and diseases of the respiratory system.
When choosing a resort, everyone is guided by their own criteria, however, excellent service, good ski slopes, smooth roads, unique cuisine, friendly hotel staff and the hospitality of local residents will be remembered for a long time, and perhaps the resorts of Georgia will become permanent place to relax.
My wife and I wanted to see Tbilisi in the rhythm of Lezginka, but the center only seems compact on the map. You can spend a week sightseeing. It’s impossible to list everything at once, but the local hospitality is a special impression! Yes, also delicious Georgian cuisine and excellent wines.
For many tourists visiting, the most attractive part of the country is, of course, its rather long coastline. The choice is so great that novice travelers often get lost and cannot immediately decide on a particularly profitable and interesting option.
It’s not surprising, because everyone has their own, unique and inimitable elements of relaxation. So, for example, a small one borders on Turkey and from it it is most convenient to travel from Georgia “abroad” with clothes, there is something to entertain even the most demanding tourists, and tiny Ureki will help treat some diseases in adults and children.
The sea, despite the fact that it washes all resorts equally, also has different physical properties, including temperature. We will talk more about this and more in the article.
What is the sea like in Georgia?
It can be useful: If you are thinking of taking your kids with you, be sure to bring them comfortable slippers.
On the Batumi beach, as well as on the beach in the village of Sarpi, there are paid changing cabins. Not everyone, however, uses them.
Along the beaches there are changing cabins, fresh showers, and clean toilets. It is worth noting that the indicated benefits of civilization in Batumi, for example, are paid. To rinse off you have to pay 1 lari GEORGIAN GEL RATE:
1 lari = 0.33 euros;
1 lari = 0.38 dollars;
1 lari = 25.22 rubles;
1 lari = 10.64 hryvnia;
1 lari = 0.85 Belarusian rubles.
, change clothes - 50 tetri GEORGIAN GEL RATE:
0.5 lari = 0.17 euros;
0.5 lari = 0.19 dollars;
0.5 lari = 12.61 rubles;
0.5 lari = 5.32 hryvnia;
0.5 lari = 0.43 Belarusian rubles.
Exchange rates and prices may not be accurate.. But since the waters of the Black Sea are not very salty, you can take a shower upon returning to your room or apartment (especially if you live nearby), and change clothes simply by wrapping yourself in a towel.
Sea water temperature in Georgia
Sea water off the coast of Georgia during the season can reach a pleasant +27 °C (according to weather forecasts). In fact, the temperature usually fluctuates somewhere around a comfortable +25 °C. From time to time, the Black Sea experiences cold currents or storms. In the latter case, tourists have to go to or while away the time having fun in local establishments. Some do not pay attention to the slightly cooled water and continue swimming.
The sea will seem warmest to tourists who choose the month of August for their vacation. The water has already warmed up enough, and the air temperature does not scorch due to its proximity to the water, as a result of which there is no stuffiness.
In winter, the sea in Georgia does not freeze. The water temperature rarely drops below +10 °C.
Beaches of Georgia
The coastal strip of Georgia from the border village of Sarpi to the beginning of Abkhazia occupies approximately 105 km. There are several popular resorts with good beaches along this stretch. Most of them are large or small pebbles, but there are also some sandy ones. Wild beaches can also be found, but they are few and inconvenient to get to. To get a little sense of the diversity of the coastal zone, let us briefly describe the popular Georgian resorts.
There is a convenient bike path along the Batumi embankment, there are benches and a convenient descent to the sea.
Recreation and entertainment at sea in Georgia
On popular beaches in Georgia, such as in Batumi, there is always more than enough. The most unusual, perhaps, include: parachute riding, gliding and flyboarding. And in the village of Kvariati, those who want to see the beauty of the underwater depths can contact a specialized diving center. A small note: in small villages, there is nothing like this even close. You will most likely be bored in them.
Where can you go from Georgia and most importantly what?
From Georgia you can organize a short trip to other neighboring countries, such as Turkey, Azerbaijan and Armenia. It’s a little problematic, but also possible, to go to Abkhazia. Some travel agencies offer organized excursions to the listed countries, but most likely it will be too expensive and uninteresting. To travel to Turkey (to pick up things), citizens of the Russian Federation and Ukrainians only need to have a valid passport. Every day minibuses run from Batumi. After crossing the border, you need to take a bus to the cities of Hopa, Kemalpasa or the Instanbul Bazaar shopping center.
Buses from Batumi take tourists straight to the end of the village of Sarpi, to the border with Turkey.
Travelers from Georgia to Azerbaijan and Armenia also need a foreign passport. The most convenient way to get there is by train from Tbilisi. And since 2017, Armenia has been accepting tourists from the Russian Federation even with internal passports.
But to travel to Abkhazia from Georgia you will need an official entry permit and an Abkhaz visa. To do this, you need to fill out an electronic form on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Abkhazia, send a photocopy of your passport and wait for the result within 5 days. Only with a printed permit and international passport is it worth going to the border (checkpoint near the bridge over the Inguri River). Then, within 3 working days after entry, everyone tourists need to go with a confirmed permit to the consular department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia in Sukhumi and receive the visa itself. Citizens of the Russian Federation and CIS countries are issued it free of charge, but other foreigners will need to pay a visa fee of 660 rubles. Important Feature: You definitely need to return back through the same Inguri checkpoint if you do not want to become persona non grata in Georgia.
Alina's review
Personally, I really liked the Georgian beaches, it was especially pleasant to relax near the Batumi Botanical Garden, in the Cape Verde area. The water seemed amazingly warm and clean, and the beach was almost deserted.
Another pleasant surprise was swimming in the Zhinvali reservoir - a wonderful place for tourists. It is full of amazing places and magnificent views. The water has time to warm up much better than in the sea, and its color fascinates and delights. Swimming in it is really pleasant and comfortable.
Review by Victor
To be honest, the sea is far from the main reason for which it is worth going to Georgia. The beaches here are pebbly. The water will be cleaner than in the version with sand, but going into the sea is not very pleasant, and even difficult for girls.
Georgian resorts do not have particularly clean beaches. Of course, they clean up there, but since tourists are mainly from the CIS, garbage still comes across. But there is also a positive side. Even in Batumi, during the peak tourist season, the beaches are not crowded. There are few tourists. At any time you can find a great place at the very edge of the water.
As a result, I wouldn’t go to Georgia just for the sea, but lying on the beach here after a tiring excursion can be very pleasant.
