The island of Cyprus has for many years, and rightfully, held the palm in terms of the number of tourists from Russia vacationing in the country. After all, there is clean water, chic and inexpensive hotels, white sand beaches, and the flight to Cyprus is not very long. Therefore, Russians prefer Cyprus rather than other countries and their resorts. The influx of tourists into the country begins in May. It is in the last month of spring that sunny weather sets in at the country's resorts, the sea becomes warm and you can relax at sea all day. Not everyone knows where is the best place to go on vacation to Cyprus in May. After all, although the island is not large, the weather and conditions for recreation are different everywhere on its territory. We have prepared a small TOP of places in Cyprus where it is best to relax in May with children or a couple.
Ayia Napa is a place for young people.
In May, one of the quietest places in Cyprus is Ayia Napa. This place is very loved by young people, but in the spring there are hardly any of them here, as they are studying. But in the summer there is such an influx of young people that it is better not to come here with children.
As for May, relaxing at a local resort is simply ideal. The air temperature during the day is at least +25 degrees, at night it is warm and about +20. The water in the sea is not so warm, but tourists are already swimming. It is about +22 degrees. For some, this water is cool. But most are already swimming, because the sun warms and warms.
In May there may be one or two days with rain. It usually rains at the beginning of the month, until the 15th. Daylight hours last at least 13 hours, and tourists really like it.
Limassol – very sunny!
The resort of Limassol is considered the sunniest resort in Cyprus in May. The sun shines here every day for at least 13.6 hours. At the same time, there are very rarely clouds and clouds in the sky. According to statistics, in May there are 30 days of sunny weather, when there is no rain and no clouds.
These days the air temperature is +26 degrees during the day and +18 at night. Yes, the nights here are a little cool, but this is not a problem, because people come here to the beaches and visit them during the day. The sea is warmed up to +21 degrees, and due to the fact that the weather is hot, swimming is very comfortable.
After the 20th of May, the temperature rises to +31, and the water in the sea becomes +22 degrees, and sometimes even higher. These days, tourists are starting to fly here, and hotel prices are rising every day.
Larnaca is another great holiday destination.
Larnaca has the hottest weather in May, up to +27 during the day. The sun shines brightly and is very warm. Therefore, you need to come here with burn creams. With sunglasses and beach umbrella.
But because it is hot during the day, the water in the sea does not become warmer. It is the same as on the entire coast of Cyprus, no higher than +21 degrees. The nights are colder than in other resorts, about +17 degrees. But this is because the days are too hot, so the night after a sunny day seems cold.
Rains here are as rare as throughout Cyprus, but according to statistics they can last 2-3 days. During this time, approximately 14 millimeters of precipitation falls, which is not very much.
You will like Larnaca. That this is a quiet and peaceful resort. There are few night discos, almost no dancing on the beaches and mostly families with children at the resort. That's why hotels have water parks, water slides and amusement parks.
You're out of luck: your vacation falls in the off-season. This is not a reason to be upset - there are many places for a good rest with your family. Where is the best place to go? To Cyprus! You won't regret this decision. Cyprus is always beautiful for everyone. It welcomes lovers of solitude, admirers of antiquity, and noisy couples with children of all ages.
Island of contrasts
Europeans love Cyprus for its year-round warm weather. Winter here is short and relatively mild, without slush and disasters. The full beach season lasts from April to the end of October. This is one of the reasons why Cyprus is the epitome of beach holidays. One, but not the only one. Where to go in Cyprus? Choose according to your preferences.
It is simply amazing how this small island in the Mediterranean was able to combine contrasting details so harmoniously. The most modern city buildings - and very close by is a patriarchal quiet village with herds of cows and shepherds. Large windows of fashionable stores and presentable restaurants coexist with quiet home cafes, pastry shops and market stalls. Add to this the majestic southern landscapes, the spirit of ancient history, and Mediterranean cuisine - and it becomes clear: if finances allow, this is where you should take your family.
Vacation with children
What do parents who are planning to spend their holiday tour with their children need to know? The choice of a vacation spot in this case differs in many ways from a place for adults. What is your first concern?
- Does the hotel accept travelers with children and at what age?
- Is a children's menu offered?
- How are the beaches equipped?
- Are there children's playgrounds and swimming pools on site?
- Security level.
- Nanny services, animators.
- Specially trained personnel.
To the advantage of Cyprus, these requirements are met by most hotels along the entire resort coast. The best time for little tourists: May-June and September-October. Where to go to Cyprus with a child? Let's take a closer look at what the most famous resorts on the island offer us.
Protaras
For sure this is the best place to go. In Cyprus, this resort area has everything for a calm, measured holiday. Families with small children feel great here: the beaches are equipped with special ramps for strollers, and along the shore there is a cozy embankment for walks with children's transport. For these purposes, park and walking paths are equipped with special slopes and crossings.
There are many cafes in Protaras with children's menus and delicious, inexpensive ice cream. For the little ones, food can be bought in local stores, as well as everything that children need. You can choose hotel rooms with a kitchen and cook your children’s meals yourself.
Reviews indicate that here is the best place in Cyprus, if you are traveling with a small child. The downside is that there are few playgrounds.
Ayia Napa
A sacred place in Cyprus and a very lively resort, which is also preferred by the Cypriots themselves. But we choose the time for a children's holiday, and just at the beginning and end of the season, Ayia Napa is relatively calm, like the whole of Cyprus. Where to go on vacation in the “Sacred Forests” (this is how the translation of the city’s name sounds)?
In general terms: the beaches are all very clean and, which is important for children, flat and sandy.
Children's entertainment - a large water park and amusement park with a children's pool.
Reviews from vacationers recognize the clean sea, beaches and parks as amazing. Now about the minuses: a very small hotel area with a minimum of children's playgrounds. Not everyone has baby food, and five stars is not always an indicator. Animators and nannies, if present on staff, mostly communicate in English. Atlantic Aeneas is recognized as the best hotel for children.
Pathos
The birthplace of Aphrodite is another family-friendly destination. Amazing sandy beaches in a picturesque bay, many small private hotels on the coast. Where better to go to Cyprus than Paphos? Read the descriptions of hotels carefully - not all of them specialize in welcoming vacationers with children. But the ones you need are equipped with children's recreation areas; they prepare not always varied, but very tasty and healthy children's food.
Where is it better to go to Cyprus with a child, where there is something to do, where there is a lot of new and interesting things besides the beach and the sea? Of course, to Paphos! As for family entertainment: older children and their parents will be interested in multiple routes along the legendary trails. If you are indifferent to history, visit the unique bird aquarium; they will not leave both the little ones and adults indifferent.
Larnaca
The most ancient settlement of the island is the city of Larnaca - a place where you can go in Cyprus if funds are limited, but you want a complete vacation. Cheaper than everywhere else does not mean worse, it’s just that this ancient town is less saturated with entertainment clubs. And reviews from families with children characterize this place as the friendliest and most suitable for children's holidays.
Entertainment: "Lucky Star Park" is the largest amusement park, which has a cafe with a children's menu; a large Camel Park, where you can walk with animals (not just camels); Sea diving is available for children over 10 years old.
Limassol
Unlike the previous one, the resort of Limassol is the place where you can go in Cyprus if you crave a cool, noisy, fun holiday! The name of the resort translates as “middle city”, and does not indicate the mediocrity of the settlement, but its location in the middle, so from here it is convenient to travel around the entire resort of Cyprus and compare the sights. Limassol is a club and nightlife, rivers of Cypriot wine, unceasing entertainment all year round.
Families with children can also find a place here, but it is still better to find the comfort of home in Paphos, Larnaca or Protaras. The majority of the public in Limassol are party-going youth, and the establishments are nightclubs and discos.
If you are at least 25 and no more than 70 years old, you can easily rent a car. This is an excellent option for spending leisure time with children: you don’t need to adjust to the excursion schedule, you have the opportunity to see all the beauty of the island without tiring your children with long treks; compare the amenities of neighboring beaches and parks.
By car you can travel to places that standard excursion routes often bypass. Ordinary rural settlements will be a real discovery; their originality and unusual way of life for us will interest us no less than the beaches and embankments. In addition, it is in such quiet and secluded places that you can find an unusually cozy pastry shop or bakery with fresh pastries, a family cafe with home cooking, or a wine cellar. And all this will be much cheaper than in the resort area.
What a driver needs to remember in Cyprus:
- The most important thing is to soberly assess your driving skills and ability to change lanes.
- You cannot cross the border between the Greek and Turkish sides of the island by car.
- An excellent ban: you cannot smoke in a car if there are children in it. And it doesn’t matter whether it’s a personal car or a rented one.
- You cannot eat, drink or talk on the phone while driving.
Otherwise, the traffic rules are the same as in most European countries.
Choosing a direction to go to Cyprus with a child is not a problem. The pearl of the Mediterranean is an excellent alternative to the noisy and expensive resorts of Greece, Turkey, and Egypt. You can always choose a resort taking into account personal requirements, the age of the child and the family budget.

Leisure
Young people who enjoy quality seaside parties will definitely want to visit Ayia Napa or Limassol, as they have the best bars and nightclubs in Cyprus. The popular Nissi Beach is especially famous among clubbers for its discos. We recommend visiting Car Wash, Castle Club, ICE, Insomnia and other nightlife spots on the island. In each of them you will find a special program, as well as unique special effects such as foam fountains, sweets flying out of pipes and much more.
Also in these places, sports recreation with water skiing or motor boats, as well as canoes or catamarans is very popular. In Ayia Napa you can go windsurfing and paragliding. And 10 kilometers west of Limassol is the largest water park in Cyprus, Water Mania.
Calm holiday
Those who want to retire and spend time away from crowds of tourists can go to Peyia, a quiet place near Paphos. An alternative would be Latchi or Pissouri, where you can also relax your soul by walking along the sea and tasting local cuisine in one of the many taverns. The most popular cities in Cyprus for family holidays are Larnaca and Paphos.
When you are completely bored with your leisurely holiday, you can take a yacht ride to the royal caves and swim in the clear waters of the Mediterranean Sea. Then it’s worth visiting the Akamas Peninsula, known for its marvelous pristine nature. You will definitely love its wild beaches, ideal for a honeymoon or just a vacation for two, and picturesque cliffs covered with greenery.
Beach resorts for families with children
Cyprus has a fairly long swimming season – from May to November, here you can bask on the sand and swim to your heart’s content. In particular, September and October are a good time for a family holiday with children in Cyprus.
For a relaxing holiday during the velvet season, the resort of Larnaca, which is famous for its golden shores framed by mountain ranges and quality hotels for every taste, is well suited. It is best to relax with children on the local beaches of Finikoudes or Mackenzie: the sea here is quite shallow and entry into it is the safest.
Most beaches in Cyprus have the Blue Flag, a special distinction confirming their cleanliness and well-developed infrastructure. Besides Larnaca, Protaras is a good holiday destination. Some of the most famous beaches with a decent level of service are Golden Sands in Ayia Napa, Fig Tree Bay in Protaras, Ladies Mile in Limassol and Coral Bay in Paphos (more detailed information about the beaches of Paphos is in the article on our website).
A summer holiday in Cyprus with a sandy beach is an excellent alternative to the already boring resorts of Turkey and Thailand.
Ski holiday
Incredibly, even in such a hot place as Cyprus, you can have excellent skiing in winter. The temperature in the winter months does not drop below 15 degrees, and snowfall is quite rare. But not far from Nicosia and Limassol, surrounded by gorgeous cedar forests, at an altitude of 2 kilometers, lie the Troodos and Platres nature reserves, where from January to March you can meet crowds of ski lovers from the mountain slopes.
These places are somewhat similar to alpine villages, where there is everything you need for an active winter holiday: cozy wooden houses, taverns with hot tea and food, as well as shops with essential goods. A holiday in Cyprus in winter will be no worse than a summer pastime.
Cyprus has a myriad of attractions and museums that lovers of antiquity will definitely appreciate.
However, the largest selection of museums, cathedrals and excavations are in Nicosia and Paphos. Many of the "places of power" of Paphos are associated with the Greek goddess Aphrodite, since, according to local legend, she was born in these lands.
Also here are the District Museum and the House of Dionysus with its mosaics, the Byzantine Museum, the Villa of Theseus and other significant places. Not far from Paphos, the Baths of Adonis are located among waterfalls that are a must see. According to Greek mythology, the beautiful young man Adonis was one of the most famous lovers of the goddess of beauty Aphrodite.

One of the famous places on the island is the ruins of Ancient Kourion. This ancient city, destroyed by an earthquake in the fourth century, perches on majestic cliffs from which travelers can enjoy magnificent coastal panoramas. The ancient town also has a sanctuary of Apollo Hylates, an amphitheater and ancient Roman baths.
An inexpensive holiday in Cyprus in the fall goes well with visiting temples and monasteries. Here are the Cathedral of St. John, Theoskepasti Church, Hagia Sophia, Stavrovouni Monastery and the Church of St. Lazarus.
Gastronomic joys
A trip to Cyprus cannot be complete without enjoying the masterpieces of the local chefs. One of the places suitable for tasting local dishes is the promenade in Paphos, with its coastal cafes and taverns. Here you should try the mezedhes appetizers, as well as suvlaki, which resembles a shish kebab, and gyros, a peculiar mixture of döner and shawarma.
When visiting a fish restaurant, do not deny yourself a dish called barbounia. The following dishes are worth trying in Cypriot establishments: salad with sheep cheese, vegetables and choriatiki olives, baked halloumi cheese, lamb Keftiko, vegetables with rice and dolmades meat, as well as taramosalata (cod caviar with mashed potatoes) and other delicacies. As for alcoholic drinks, be sure to try Zivania – “fire water” made from grape juice – and white wine “St. Panteleimon”.
Climate
This paradise island is ready to receive tourists from all over the world almost all year round, because its Mediterranean climate is incredibly healthy and comfortable for life. The hottest period in Cyprus is from May to September.
In spring, there are many Europeans and those who do not like extreme heat in Cyprus. Winter on the island is quite mild, and from January to March there is snow in the mountains and you can go snowboarding or skiing. Cyprus is famous for its long-livers, which is not surprising given its favorable climatic conditions.
Visa

- The museums here operate under special operating hours, without fixed opening hours, so before visiting, be sure to check the closing time online or by phone. The same applies to the private sector - shops and stores set their own hours, but in the summer they mostly work with rare breaks, until the last customer.
- When visiting local temples and mosques, women need to dress so that there are no exposed parts of the body. Men should also wear decent length trousers. When leaving the church, do not turn your back to the iconostasis.
- The cheapest place to buy food, souvenirs and other goods is in city stores and supermarkets; it is better not to do this in hotels. Prices in shops are fixed, but you can bargain at street markets.
- The pricing policy of cafes, bars and restaurants in Cyprus is controlled by the local tourism organization. As for tips, it is customary to leave 5 to 10% of the bill or 3-5 euros to the hotel staff.
- Cyprus has a very low crime rate. But, in the event of loss of personal belongings or another incident, it is better to report to the police as soon as possible. This must be done no later than 2 days from the date of theft.
- We recommend taking a look at the island from the sea by taking a sea cruise. You can buy tickets on one of the beaches, but tours from local agencies will be cheaper.
- If you're planning on shopping, Cyprus is a great place to buy copper, silver and ceramics, as well as leather clothing, shoes and accessories. In the mountain village of Lefkara they sell handmade lace of incredible beauty, which can be brought as an expensive gift to your family.
- While passing through Paphos, find a wishing tree (the locals will definitely show you the way) and tie a knot on it. And then make your cherished wish, and it will definitely come true. At least that's what the Cypriots say.
