Vessel for bedridden patients - types and features of use. How to choose a ship (duck) for bedridden patients A ship or duck for patients
If the patient is forbidden to go even to the toilet, he must perform all physiological functions in bed. for emptying the intestines, bedpans are used, which can be enameled, faience and rubber. A bedridden patient is served a vessel in bed. Before serving, the vessel should be rinsed with hot water, as it should be clean and warm. The ship must be handled very carefully.
Rice. 8. The correct position of the lining circle.
The left hand is brought under the sacrum of the patient and at the same time lifts it, and the right hand is carefully placed on the vessel and brought under the sacrum with the cape forward so that the buttocks hang slightly over its opening (Fig. 8). Then the patient is covered with a blanket, and after emptying the intestines, the vessel is immediately taken away. It is desirable to fence off the patient during bowel movement with a screen. After defecation, the bedpan is carefully removed from under the patient so as not to spill the contents, covered with oilcloth or newspaper and taken out to the toilet room. The patient is washed away and the anus area is wiped dry. The contents of the vessel are poured into the toilet. The vessel is well washed with hot water with powders "Hygiene" and "News". After that, the vessel is disinfected with a 2% solution of chloramine or a 0.5% clarified solution of bleach. Weak patients with a small subcutaneous fat layer, a tendency to form bedsores, as well as with fecal incontinence, should be given inflatable rubber bedpans, which, due to their elasticity, exert the least pressure on the sacrum and at the same time protect against contact with secretions, which is the prevention of bedsores. The vessel should not be tightly inflated. The bedpan should not be placed directly on the sheet, but an oilcloth should be placed under it. It must be emptied in time. At the moment, there are special machines that wash and dry ships. The junior nurse constantly monitors the cleanliness and proper storage of the vessels. For emptying the bladder, men and patients with urinary incontinence are given urinals, i.e. (ducks), they are placed between the legs of the patient, and the penis is lowered into the hole. These urinals can be glass and enameled. After each urination, they are emptied, washed well with one of the “Hygiene”, “News” products. to remove sediment from the walls, it is necessary to periodically wash it with a weak solution of hydrochloric acid. Before giving to the patient, the urinal should be rinsed with warm water. Each bedridden patient should have an individual urinal, which is located by the bed, and a bedpan, which is stored in a special nest under the bed.

Target: emptying the patient's bladder or bowels.
Equipment: ship, oilcloth, screen, gloves
1. Put on gloves.
3. Rinse the vessel with warm water, leaving some water in it.
4. Place an oilcloth under the patient's pelvis.
5. Bring your left hand under the sacrum from the side, helping the patient raise the pelvis. In this case, the patient's legs should be bent at the knees.
6. With your right hand, move the vessel under the patient's buttocks so that the perineum is above the opening of the vessel.
7. Cover the patient with a blanket and leave him alone for a while.
8. At the end of a bowel movement, remove the vessel with your right hand, while helping the patient raise the pelvis with your left hand.
9. Remove the vessel and oilcloth.
10. Disinfect the vessel and oilcloth.
11. Remove the screen, remove gloves, wash your hands.
Note: Sometimes the method of bringing the vessel described above cannot be used, since seriously ill patients cannot rise. In this situation, you can do the following.
Algorithm of actions of a nurse:
1. Put on gloves.
2. Shield the patient with a screen.
3. Turn the patient slightly to one side with the patient's legs bent at the knees.
4. Move the vessel under the patient's buttocks.
5. Turn the patient on his back so that his perineum is over the opening of the vessel.
6. Cover the patient and leave him alone for a while.
7. At the end of a bowel movement, turn the patient slightly to one side.
8. Remove the boat.
9. After examining the contents of the vessel, pour it into the toilet. Rinse the boat with hot water.
10. After changing gloves and substituting a clean vessel, wash the patient.
11. After performing the manipulation, remove the vessel, oilcloth, screen.
12. Remove gloves, wash your hands.
Note: In addition to the enameled vessel, rubber is widely used. A rubber vessel is used for weakened patients, in the presence of bedsores, with urinary and fecal incontinence. The vessel should not be inflated tightly, as it will put considerable pressure on the sacrum. The inflatable cushion of the rubber vessel (that is, the part of the vessel that will be in contact with the patient) must be covered with a diaper. Men are given a urinal at the same time as the vessel.
Washing patients
Target: care for the external genitalia and perineum.
Equipment: gloves, oilcloth, screen, vessel, forceps, cotton swabs, gauze napkins, jug, tray, water thermometer, antiseptic solutions (furacillin solution 1:5000, slightly pink potassium permanganate solution, 2% sodium bicarbonate solution).
Algorithm of actions of a nurse:
1. Wash your hands, put on gloves.
2. Shield the patient with a screen.
3. Lay the patient on his back, legs should be bent at the knees and separated.
4. Lay an oilcloth under the patient and place the vessel.
5. Take a forceps with a napkin or cotton swab in your right hand, and a jug with a warm antiseptic solution (a low-rose solution of potassium permanganate, a solution of furacilin 1:5000) or water at a temperature of 30-35 ° C in your left hand.
6. Pour the solution on the genitals, and with a napkin (or tampon) move from top to bottom (from the genitals to the anus), changing the tampons as they get dirty, first wash the genitals (labia in women, penis and scrotum in men) , then, inguinal folds, lastly wash away the perineum and anus.
7. Dry in the same sequence with dry swabs.
8. Remove the vessel, oilcloth and screen.
9. Remove gloves, wash your hands.
REMEMBER!
Seriously ill patients should be washed after each act of defecation and urination, as well as several times a day for urinary and fecal incontinence.
When caring for the external genitalia and perineum, special attention should be paid to natural folds. Women are washed only from top to bottom!
Most often, the vessel is round, has a large hole at the top and a small one at the bottom in a tube that serves to free the vessel from the contents. The upper large hole is supplied with a lid. A clean vessel is usually located under the patient's bed on a special bench.
Vessel submission rules
When submitting a vessel, you need to follow a number of simple rules. When the patient needs to empty his intestines, he must be fenced off from the rest of the patients with a screen, then rinse the vessel with warm water, leaving some water at the bottom.
The patient is thrown back the blanket, asking him to bend his legs, and help him with his left hand to raise the pelvis. A home-based caregiver for a bedridden patient holds the vessel by the tube with her right hand, bringing it under the patient's buttocks.
After installing the vessel, the patient's crotch should be above the upper hole, and the tube should be between his legs. After this, the patient can be covered with a blanket and left alone for a while. After that, the vessel is taken out from under the patient and taken out to the toilet for pouring, covered with a lid.
After emptying the vessel, it must be disinfected with a bleach solution (1-2%) or chloramine solution (3%), and washed with a brush. Then the vessel should be rinsed and stored under the patient's bed on a bench.
There are also special machines for washing the ship. According to the rules of some hospitals, the vessels are stored in a special cabinet in numbered cells.
Using a urinal
With strict bed rest in bed, patients also have to urinate. For this, there is a special device - a urinal. They are made in an oval shape with an elongated tube-shaped hole made of metal or glass, so that the care of the sick is carried out competently.
At the same time, the shape of this tube in urinals for men and women is different. Also, women often use a vessel to urinate.
The urinal and vessel must be individual. They are served to the patient in a clean and warm form, after performing their function they are immediately emptied and cleaned.
Cleaning the urinal is different in that it is washed from time to time with a solution of hydrochloric acid of low concentration, since urine gives a sediment that easily sticks to the walls of the urinal, leaving an unpleasant odor.
Now I will show how to properly serve the vessel to a bedridden patient. Place a rolled-up blanket under your shoulder and hip. The height of the blanket should be the same as the boat. We bend our knees.
If a girl can hold her hand, let her hold on to the side. With the help of the sheet and my body weight, I help her roll onto her side so she's hip on the folded blanket. I lay down the ship.
There's a space between the bed and my hip, I don't have to push the ship under it. I attach the vessel and turn her on her back. You can raise the head of the bed. If you have a different type of vessel, the blanket must be rolled up so that they match in height.
In order to take the ship, I turn the girl on her side again - with my hip on the edge of the blanket - and easily take the ship. I do not need to lift the girl and shift from the height of the ship down to the bed. Thus, there is less chance of touching and knocking over its contents.
- this is the most important condition for his speedy recovery or maintaining health in good condition for a long time. In modern conditions, it is not difficult to choose a care product that will be most comfortable for such a patient, as well as convenient for his family, friends and medical staff providing care. One of the necessary means is a ship (duck) for bedridden patients.
Types of care products for bedridden patients
People of different ages and gender quite often for a certain period of time are bedridden due to a complete or partial loss of the ability to move. In such a situation, it is not possible to visit the toilet, and you have to use special duck devices.
Until a few years ago, the bedridden medical vessel was an enameled metal tank that was used to collect food from men and women and collect urine from women. The second variety was the duck for bedridden male patients, which is an enameled metal urinal. These two types of care products still exist, but are represented by a variety of models. For example, there are constructive options made of plastic.
Important! Good care and regular hygiene procedures improve not only the physical, but also the psychological state of the patient.
How to choose a patient care product
If you need a vessel for bedridden patients at home, then when choosing, you need to consider several aspects:
- a form that maximally corresponds to the individual characteristics of the patient, does not cause inconvenience and pain;
- ease of use and disinfection of the vessel (duck) for a bedridden patient;
- design corresponding to the weight characteristics of the patient;
- material, its flexibility and elasticity, etc.
To ensure that the collection of waste products is not perceived by the patient as an unpleasant procedure, it is necessary to carefully select the models of special medical equipment necessary in this case.
For patients of different sexes, there are various modifications: for example, a duck or a vessel for bedridden patients for women is made in accordance with anatomical features and is intended for the most comfortable use from a physiological and psychological point of view.
If your ward has bedsores or a danger of occurrence is noted, then you need to purchase a rubber vessel for bedridden patients. In addition, for the correct choice of product, it is important to consult a doctor about the characteristics of the condition and the course of the disease.
Types of medical vessel (ducks)
Medical equipment designed to receive human waste products is available in several varieties, for example, you can pick up a duck or a vessel for bedridden sick men, as well as for women.
The first variety is the vessel itself, that is, an oval (or round) shaped container-tray placed under the pelvic region and used to empty both the bladder and intestines at the same time. The ship-boat for bedridden patients is used in the care of men and women. Modern models of a bedridden vessel are made of materials that make care minimally painful. You can put a vessel under a bedridden patient if he is in the supine position. In severe diseases, this is a very convenient and ergonomic option, since it is not necessary to turn the patient on his side. Comparison of the characteristics of the vessel (duck) for bedridden patients from various materials will help you choose the best option (table).
Parameter | Enamelled metal | Rubber | Synthetic material (plastic, polypropylene) |
Weight | 1200-1500 | 300-400 g | 500-700 g |
Material Properties | rigidity, long-term preservation of air temperature | flexibility, plasticity | atraumatic, flexible |
How to disinfect | sterilized in an autoclave or washed with a disinfectant solution | soaked in a special solution | cleaned with special cleaners |
Advantages | strength, durability, ease of sanitization | takes the shape of the body, does not exert pressure on tissues, it is possible to adjust the height of the vessel | does not cause inconvenience and pain, does not put pressure on the sacral region |
Flaws | the need for warming before giving to the patient | fragility | the appearance of an unpleasant odor after prolonged use |
Each of the presented models has its own characteristics. For example, a rubber inflatable vessel for bedridden patients is not suitable for patients with a large body weight, as it may deflate. In addition, a rubber vessel is not as durable as equipment made from other materials. A duck or plastic bedside vessel combines several advantages such as long life and strength, but is distinguished by its ability to absorb even with regular processing and disinfection. An enameled metal vessel under a lying patient cannot be used for pressure ulcers, after injuries of the lumbosacral region or the femoral neck.
Rubber soft vessel for bedridden patients is available in three sizes, has a special valve for blowing. Reservoirs made of plastic or metal are made with lids; you can also purchase a cover or convenient hygroscopic pads that increase the comfort of defecation or urination.
Duck patterns for women and men
Medical equipment with a long neck for receiving secretions from the bladder is popularly called a duck. Modern manufacturers of medical equipment offer a wide range of products for the care of women and men. Such devices are convenient and can be used not only when the patient is turned on his side, but also in the supine position. Ducks, as well as vessels for bedridden patients, are produced from different materials: metal, glass, plastic.
Important! It is convenient to use a duck for bedridden patients, since special modifications have been developed for males and females that correspond to the anatomical structure of their urinary organs.
Vessel care rules
In order not to create additional discomfort for a sick person, you need to use the vessel for bedridden patients carefully and quickly, observing a few simple rules:
- if possible, ensure the confidentiality of the procedure by using a medical screen;
- before putting the vessel to a bedridden patient, it is necessary to put on medical gloves, prepare an oilcloth (or), wet wipes for intimate hygiene, cotton wool, warm water, toilet soap, a towel or soft cloth;
- heat and dry the vessel (duck) and make sure that the surface temperature is ;
- remove the blanket
- ask the patient to raise the pelvic part and bend the knees to put the oilcloth on, or, in case of immobility, perform these manipulations on their own;
- it is necessary to place the vessel correctly for a bedridden patient, raising or supporting the sacral part with one hand, and gently bringing the vessel with the other hand so that the buttocks are located above the hole;
- make sure that the patient is comfortable to lie down, cover with a blanket or sheet and give him time to empty his bowels and bladder;
- at the end of the procedure, after defecation and urination, it is necessary to clean the skin from the remnants of feces and urine with toilet paper or wet wipes, then wash the genital area with warm water and soap, gently wipe dry, then remove the vessel (duck) and oilcloth.
In some cases, it is not possible to empty the intestines while lying on your back, so you will need to turn such a patient on his side and protect his skin from contamination with a diaper or napkin. After the procedure, you can lubricate the surface of the skin with cream or treat with powder.
Important! The vessel (duck) for bedridden patients is washed, disinfected and dried immediately after the manipulation.
Rules for caring for a bedridden patient with a duck
However, if the condition is severe, it is necessary to put a duck on a bedridden patient, based on the knowledge of several rules:
- before manipulation, wash your hands and put on medical gloves;
- to put a duck on a bedridden patient, you need to fold back the blanket, provide access to the urinary organs and bring the reservoir so as to prevent urine from leaking onto bed linen or clothes;
- after use, the duck should be washed immediately using a stiff brush and a disinfectant solution of chloramine or other substances.
When purchasing, those who have suffered injuries and other diseases, or an elderly person, you need to carefully study the technical specifications and instructions, which say how to properly place the vessel on a bed patient. In addition, you can invite a medical professional and get expert advice. It must be remembered that good care will help the patient recover faster and feel comfortable even in the most difficult condition.
