What to do in Sharjah. A good rest for body and soul: we go on a tour of luxurious Sharjah. What is Sharjah
Here are the names of Sharjah attractions that you should definitely see with your own eyes and capture in photographs:
Fountain in the bay- one of the largest in the world. It is not only huge, but also very beautiful. Come see it in the evening, when the light and sound show begins: jets of water, illuminated by multi-colored spotlights, wonderfully “dance” to the music.
- the largest in the UAE, accommodating three thousand worshipers. The building is new, built in the twentieth century, but made in the traditional Arabic style interspersed with modern architectural elements. Booklets describing the sights of Sharjah indicate that it is better to come to the mosque in the evening - at this time the lighting turns on, which makes the building look like a fairy-tale palace.
Firoze EdasserySeven meter monument "Koran" in the city square - one of the main attractions of Sharjah, a photo of which can be found in any tourist guide. This monument is a symbol of the Muslim faith and a source of pride for the townspeople.
- a rather large and very beautiful complex that invariably attracts tourists.

Local markets is also a special object, and any map with the sights of Sharjah will point you to them. The markets of this city are the most luxurious and beautiful in the Emirates, with the atmosphere of the old East. Exquisite exterior design, stunning interior decoration, incredible variety of goods - you will see all this in local markets.

Come here for jewelry, souvenirs, dishes, antiques and everything your heart desires. By the way, the map of Sharjah with attractions shows that the Central Market is located not far from the Faisal Mosque, so you can combine a visit to them.

On Government Square you will see the Monument to Progress - a structure 15 meters high. The guide to the sights of Sharjah in Russian says that this monument symbolizes both the veneration of traditions by the local population and their desire for development.

Visit Al Khish Fort- a two-story fortification made of coral, stones and adobe, which is located in the very center of the city. Previously, it was the residence of the local ruling family, and today it has been turned into one of the most popular city museums.
In addition, Sharjah has many interesting museums that you can visit as part of excursion programs.
Each of us, of course, dreams of the sun and sea, which are fully represented here. Well-maintained snow-white beaches and azure waters of the Persian and Oman Gulfs will not leave anyone indifferent. But the sunbed on the beach soon gets boring, and we realize that spiritual food and entertainment are not alien to us. We feverishly begin to search for information about local entertainment and shopping centers, local attractions, etc.
For those who like to “light up” at discos, slightly speeding up the blood with alcohol, or “have a good time” in a restaurant or bar after sunbathing during the day, it is worth choosing another emirate for relaxation. - the strictest emirate in terms of morals and laws. There is a prohibition law and a ban on discos and other similar entertainment events. But for history buffs there are huge opportunities for self-education, and for families or groups of people who prefer a healthy lifestyle, there are places where you can spend time interestingly and profitably. A huge number of carefully preserved ancient monuments telling about the formation and struggle of the people of this region, 14 museums of a wide variety of directions, parks - this is only a small part of the interesting places in Sharjah. We will try to give you some information about the places you can visit while spending your holiday in Sharjah.
Architecture
A story about this city will not make any sense if you do not describe its appearance. This is a beautiful city covered with greenery with an amazing lagoon, where two and three-story mansions coexist with high-rise modern buildings that harmoniously complement each other. All this alternates with ancient, carefully restored buildings and a huge number of mosques, raising their spiers high. All this is done in Islamic traditions, and the flavor of the East can be felt in every alley. Everywhere you feel a kind of completeness, which you feel when you enter the house of a good owner, who does everything with high quality, and therefore for a long time.
Here you can visit. It was built by the king as a gift to the emirate for his strict adherence to the tenets of Islam and is the largest in the Emirates. It can accommodate up to 3,000 believers at the same time, which in itself is a record.
You can also admire the tallest in the world, which is located in the middle of the lagoon and depicts a stream of oil escaping from the ground. Thus, local residents expressed gratitude to this source of energy, which brought prosperity and well-being to the region. It is especially beautiful in the evening when the lights are on.
Shopping and entertainment centers and markets
Huge shopping centers with their own entertainment centers for both children and adults are available for shopping lovers. Our observant tourists have noticed that prices for many goods here are lower than in similar ones, which often becomes the decisive factor in the purchase of a particular item.
Well, visiting the East and not visiting the markets is an unforgivable mistake! Modern: Central Market (referred to as “trailers” among tourists) and. Ancient: (with a roof made of palm branches - barasti), Fish Market and, amazingly beautiful, decorated with rare varieties of marble and granite - and many more large and small markets scattered throughout the city. Here you can buy almost everything - from gold and silver jewelry to an old nail. We must remember that the Arabs are structured in such a way that to a buyer who knows how to bargain and stands his ground to the end, naturally within reasonable limits, they are ready to give the goods for next to nothing, sometimes to their detriment. What this is connected with is not clear. Apparently, a good conversationalist is more important to them than money.
Parks
Very close, literally a 20-minute drive from the center, is the unique Desert Park complex, which includes the Museum of Natural History, and. For a fairly affordable price, you will immerse yourself in the Arabian nature, and you are unlikely to have enough day to explore all the attractions of the park. As a result, you cannot avoid a second visit here. Everything is arranged in such a way that you are captivated by a genuine interest in everything around you.
You can have a good time with your whole family or company. There is everything for this - special lawns for picnics, attractions and swimming pools for children and adults, a football field and a mini zoo.
For gourmets who love a variety of national cuisines, this is simply paradise. A huge number of cafes and eateries that you will find in any corner of the city will satisfy the appetite of the most fastidious of visitors.
It’s not worth talking about. Their directions are so diverse that there is no point in recommending any of them - the choice is only yours. The same can be said about the Sharjah Exhibition Center, where numerous different thematic exhibitions and fairs are held.
This is not a complete list of places that are worth visiting while vacationing in Sharjah. We organize our own leisure time and the saying: “A smart person is never bored” is just as relevant here as at home.

Sharjah is interesting in its own way, like any of the emirates; but of all the emirates it is especially interesting as it is the most conservative and closed. The second reason that makes Sharjah attractive for sightseeing is the fact that it was declared an Arab Capital of Culture by UNESCO in 1998. A large column erected in front of the Desert Park and Wildlife Center immortalized this circumstance. Sharjah was also named the Islamic Cultural Capital by the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) in 2014.
You should start exploring it from the heritage zone, the Old Town, where several ancient houses have been restored. This quarter is located near the Corniche, between Burge Avenue and St. Al-Maraiya. The buildings here have been recreated using traditional materials. The most interesting are the Al Khish Fort, the Literary Square with the House of Poetry, the Museum of Islamic Civilization, the Sharjah Heritage Museum and the Al Arsa Market. Most of the buildings can be viewed from the inside, but they are open during certain hours, some of which are for women only.
In 1998, Sharjah was declared an Arab Capital of Culture by UNESCO.
Sharjah Al Khish Fort today operates as a museum and is the centerpiece of the Old City. The fort itself was carefully restored by the current Sheikh after it was almost destroyed by his brother. The museum can give you an idea of the social life and history of the emirate (although, alas, most of the accompanying information is given only in Arabic).
The Museum of Islamic Civilization in Sharjah is a rather interesting place for those who study world religions. Here you can see handwritten copies of the Koran, letters from the Prophet Mohammed to other leaders and various artifacts from Mecca. The museum also has an exhibition of Arabic handicrafts.
The Museum of Calligraphy is also interesting. Although it is small, here you can see truly amazing pieces of art created by Persian, Arab and Turkish artists. The museum hosts workshops where students are shown the art of calligraphy.
The beautiful King Faisal Mosque on Al-Ittaid Square was opened in 1987 and is designed to accommodate 15 thousand believers. The mosque was a gift to the emirate from this ruler of Saudi Arabia. Only Muslims are allowed to enter.
The only place in Sharjah where you can drink (apart from the airport lounges) is the Wanderers Club, founded in 1977 as a sports club for rugby and diving enthusiasts. There is a British bar with traditional English food and drink, but the club is open to members or their guests.
Be sure to visit Sharjah Blue Souk, Al Markazi. But first, take a look at the outside of this majestic building. Sometimes the market is also called “golden” for the color of the walls (the second adjective comes from the beautiful mosaic tiles decorating its facade). There are about 600 shops here, and there is no better place to buy souvenirs, rugs and jewelry in Sharjah. Opposite the Blue Market on Corniche Road is the fish market. Another interesting market is Al Arsa, which according to some sources may be considered the oldest in the country. Even if you've already bought everything, come here for a cup of mint tea.
The shores of the Persian Gulf attract tourists with their luxurious sandy beaches, beautiful landscapes, attractions and true Arab traditions. You can feel the atmosphere of the East, explore the secrets of Arab culture, and see amazing historical places by visiting the most sophisticated capital of the United Arab Emirates - Sharjah.
Old city
All the beauty and charm of historical Sharjah is collected behind a high fortress wall, thereby protecting the Old City from the influence of civilization. On the territory of the main open-air historical museum you can see memorable sights - houses with their architecture untouched by the modern world, a traditional market - a living embodiment of the past, several museums, a theater.
The Arab bazaar attracts visitors not only with its countless goods and souvenirs, but also with its colorful traders, vying with each other to praise their goods. On the shelves you can buy various silver and wooden products, delicious Arabic spices, aromatic teas that will remind you of your journey for a long time.
The price of goods is quite high, but this is not important for traders; the cost is determined by the exciting process of bargaining in order to convey to the buyer the special value of the purchased souvenir.
The Islamic Museum is waiting for its visitors to take them into the ancient world of Islamic culture. A huge collection of historically valuable coins, ancient manuscripts, household items - jugs, bowls, candlesticks, weapons - will immerse the tourist in its beautiful storage facilities.
In addition to architectural and historical attractions, a visit to the Desert Park will give you an idea of the amazing and unique world of wildlife. The vast territory of the park combines a living history museum, a unique botanical garden, a children's farm and a nature museum.
By visiting the living history museum, thanks to the beautifully executed exhibitions, you can trace the evolution of the Arabian desert, and special models demonstrate real volcanic eruptions and meteorite falls. A qualified guide will tell you in the most vivid colors about the many inhabitants of the desert, accompanying the story with a demonstration of stunning prehistoric landscapes.
The Wildlife Center will introduce each visitor in detail to rare representatives of the animal world, such as baboons, Arabian leopards, and sand cats. By visiting the terrarium, you can see rare and poisonous snakes, which are an integral part of the fauna of Sharjah. At the children's farm, young travelers will be able to see representatives of the animal agriculture industry, learn about the rules of care and have the opportunity to feed cute donkeys, kids, and sheep.
Fans of historical sites and fortresses will undoubtedly love the majestic Al-Hisn Fort. Its impressive walls were built back in 1820 to protect against attacks by hostile tribes. The luxurious two-story building, designed in the style of traditional Arabic architecture, houses a large number of rooms, halls and corridors.
Within the walls of this unique landmark, the Historical Museum of the Emirate of Sharjah has found its place with an interesting story about the history of the founding of the city. The museum often hosts a variety of thematic events, exhibitions, and performances. By visiting the halls of the museum, you can take an amazing journey into the past, see exhibitions and unique interior items. The collection of ancient weapons, for the manufacture of which they used tortoiseshell, copper, and wood, deserves special attention.
The opportunity to taste real Arabic coffee with traditional oriental sweets without leaving the fort will add flavor to your visit. At the same time, the impressions will be enhanced by the observation deck, which reveals all the charm of old Sharjah.
In the emirate of Sharjah, there is a “prohibition law” that prohibits the sale and drinking of alcoholic beverages in public, historical and cultural places.
Therefore, in order to avoid conflicts, it is not advisable to transport alcohol across the border. In return, you don’t have to worry about your holiday being disrupted by drunk tourists.
Al Qasbah Canal
When listing the attractions of the United Arab Emirates, it is impossible to ignore the most beautiful and romantic place in Sharjah - the Al Qasbah Canal. Traveling along the waters of the canal in the evening twilight, lovers will fill their hearts with awe and tenderness, which will be given by stunning views.
