The desire often arises among tourists who have spent some time in Pattaya and are somewhat tired of its unbridled fun and, in general, from the noise of a large resort city. In this respect, Koh Chang is the complete opposite of Pattaya and it is not surprising that the number of people wishing to spend a few days on a quiet island with magnificent beaches and tropical vegetation is constantly increasing. This article describes the most convenient and popular way to get from Pattaya to Koh Chang.
THE CONTENT OF THE ARTICLE (you can click on the link for a quick transition)
Transfer Pattaya - Koh Chang
Despite the fact that an organized transfer from Pattaya to Koh Chang is not the most budget-friendly way to get to the island, it is recommended by all experienced travelers who have once been convinced of its advantages. And the very small overpayment for this transfer compared to other methods described at the end of this article, which also allow you to get to Koh Chang from Pattaya, is fully compensated by the convenience and simplicity. However, first things first. The advantage of the transfer is that, having paid once, you no longer have to worry about anything in the process of moving from Pattaya to Koh Chang.
Today in Pattaya it is easy to find many tourist offices that will be happy to take care of your transportation to Koh Chang island, however, prices are not the same everywhere and you can pay either 400 Thai baht or 500-600 for the same journey. This is due to the fact that not all offices themselves deliver passengers on the Pattaya - Koh Chang route: many are only intermediaries. As a result, the cost of a transfer for clients of such companies will be higher than for tourists who contacted the transfer organizers directly.
The company with the best prices and an excellent reputation today is 35 Group Pattaya, whose office is located on Third Street in Pattaya, near the intersection with South Street. If you walk from the beginning of Walking Street along South Street, you will need to go through several small intersections, i.e. Third Street is not the next intersection after Second Street, as many people think, but much further, but I always walked without problems.
Your landmark should be a traffic light at a larger intersection than the previous ones and a small motorbike repair shop in front of it, located in a building on the right in the direction of travel (although it is useless to describe establishments and signs in Pattaya, since everything is changing rapidly). At this intersection you need to turn left and go through several buildings until you see a 4-story pink building with balconies, again on the left side, a corresponding sign (see photo) and a glass door. By the way, on road signs the street is designated as Pattaya Tai (in Latin). Since the company moved to this office only last year, a currency exchange is located in the program in place of the Group’s office 35.
Before entering the office, I advise you to take off your shoes (you will see a lot of shoes in front of the door and remember this). At the office you will be asked where you want to book a transfer (Pattaya - Koh Chang), the desired date and time of departure. They will also be sure to ask for the name of your hotel and its address (if the hotel is small and little-known, take a business card with the address from the reception so that the driver can definitely find you before going to Koh Chang). I also advise you to leave your phone number in Thailand. The company operates three flights on the Pattaya - Koh Chang route per day: at 07:00 and 09:00 in the morning and at 13:00.
Transfer cost Pattaya – Koh Chang
in 2013 and at the beginning of 2014 it was 400 baht, while the indicated price includes a ticket for the Trat - Koh Chang ferry (which costs 80 baht when purchased separately). If you are planning to return from Koh Chang to Pattaya (and not to Bangkok for example), I advise you to immediately book a ticket in the opposite direction, i.e. transfer Koh Chang - Pattaya. This will save you another 100 baht (round trip transfer costs 700 baht). You can take a return ticket with an open date (tell the girl in the office that you need an “open ticket”). There are some nuances with the return transfer, which are described below on the page.
After paying for the tickets, you can breathe easy: you will no longer need to do anything to get from Pattaya to Koh Chang, except to be in the right place at the right time. At the appointed time, you will be picked up directly from the hotel and taken in a comfortable Toyota minibus with a leather interior to the pier in Trat, from where ferries depart to Koh Chang. Having received ferry tickets upon arrival at the pier from an employee of the company “35 Group Pattaya” (they have a small office there), all that remains is to go through the waiting room and wait for the ferry, get on it and cover the distance to Koh Chang.
Since the pier on Koh Chang is on the eastern side of the island, and most hotels and beaches are on the western side, you will have to use a songthaew. To the nearest one, which is given in a separate article - White Sand Beach - the trip will cost 50-60 baht, to Kai Bae Beach - 100-150 baht (depending on the time of day and the total number of passengers in the pickup truck). By the way, even when ordering a transfer Pattaya - Koh Chang, you can order your delivery directly to a specific hotel on the island. Of course, this will cost more, like 550 (or 600) one way, but some will find this option convenient, especially if you managed to save a lot by using the hotel search form and comparing prices in various booking systems, which is located just below.
Please note: the company’s reputation is really good and not only among Russian-speaking tourists, so it is increasingly necessary to order a transfer Pattaya - Koh Chang in advance. I myself was faced with a situation where I had to postpone a trip to Koh Chang by one day due to the fact that all seats on two morning flights on the originally chosen day were sold out. Therefore, if you want to be guaranteed a cheap trip to Koh Chang from Pattaya, book a transfer in advance.
Return transfer Koh Chang – Pattaya
If you have ordered a return transfer, be sure to ask the 35 Group Pattaya employee who will meet you upon arrival at the pier to give you a receipt for the return ferry ticket. For some reason, the girl immediately refused to give me such a receipt; I had to demand more insistently, pointing out that there was a return ticket with an open date. If the return transfer was originally booked for a specific date, simply arrive a few hours before leaving for Pattaya at the island pier, exchange your receipt for a ticket and board the ferry.
If the opposite transfer Koh Chang – Pattaya with an open date, you should definitely call the company’s office two days before the planned departure from the island and reserve seats in the minibus. If this is not done, there may not be free seats on the bus and you will have to look for other options for returning to Pattaya and overpay for it. A small clarification: over the phone, employees speak only English (as in the company’s offices), so it is advisable to know this language a little and be able to put together a few words in it to explain what you need (you will need to indicate the transfer contract number, departure date and time from Trat to Pattaya).
The receipt for a ticket can be exchanged at the window at the entrance to the pier on the island (before departure to the mainland). You can get to the pier in the same way as when arriving on the island - using a songthaew. By the way, it is better to arrive at the pier in advance so as not to be late for your return transfer. Arriving by ferry to Trat, you must again go to the office of the 35 Group Pattaya company, from whose door the buses depart, and show your ticket. Often, a bright sticker with the name of the company will be placed on your T-shirt so that you do not get lost.
If a company minibus arrives at the time you choose, but they don’t want to let you into it, don’t panic and swear, “losing face.” Another one will arrive soon and you will definitely be taken to the hotel in Pattaya where you were initially picked up from. On the way there and back, the minibus stops a couple of times at a gas station, where you need to get out of the minibus. You can just stretch your legs, or you can have a bite of local food (from the makashnik), eat some fruit, or go to a 7/11 store (not at all gas stations) and buy beer there. Just don’t confuse the minibass, there are usually a lot of them and all are white. Therefore, pay attention to the name of the company (highlighted in the photo with a yellow marker) and remember your fellow travelers.
Why transfer Pattaya - Koh Chang is more profitable and convenient
bus
More accessible at first glance methods are regular buses passing through Pattaya to Trat. Their cost is about 200-220 baht. It would seem that the amount is almost two times less than the cost of an organized transfer to. However, if you add 80 baht for a ferry ticket to this amount, you already get about 300 baht. Plus, you need to get from the hotel to the North Bus Station in Pattaya or the Sukhumvit highway (10-20 baht for a songthaew or much more by taxi), find a suitable bus (and this is also not easy if you use the ones passing through Pattaya along the Sukhumvit highway, which you need stop yourself or ask local residents to do it, also for a small fee).
In addition, from Trat itself you will need to get to one of the ferry piers yourself, using local songthaews, which will again cost you about 50 baht. In other words, the amount turns out to be similar, plus or minus 30 baht, but there are much more difficulties, especially if there are problems with English. If you order a transfer in both directions, then this method turns out to be not only the fastest, but also the cheapest, and the method with regular buses cannot compete at all.
Also remember that a trip of about 270 km on a VIP minibus with comfortable leather seats will in any case be faster and more comfortable than on a regular intercity bus, which takes about six hours to Trat with many stops. Decide which way get from Pattaya to Koh Chang more convenient, in any case for you. I wish you a successful and comfortable trip!

Our reader Victoria Kurilova At first I doubted: is an excursion from Pattaya to Koh Chang worth the time and money spent? Still, the road is long, you have to get up early, the trip is not cheap... Were her fears justified and is it worth going from Pattaya to Koh Chang? Victoria talks about this in today's article!
From the site authors: Victoria and her husband moved to live first in Vietnam and then in Thailand in June 2018 - read the wonderful notes on her page in In contact with and in Instagram !
Far and scary
I started looking for excursions in Pattaya long before my vacation. After studying various resources and excursion offers, we settled on Olya and Zhenya’s website. Uekhali.com is a very rich resource where you can find almost everything you need not only for a holiday in Pattaya, but also for living there. In addition, we liked both the prices and the programs, so we chose all the excursions in Pattaya in advance.
Or rather, almost everything 🙂 We liked the program of a two-day excursion from Pattaya to Koh Chang, but before the trip I read all sorts of horror stories on the Internet: that this island is very far away, that it rains there, that it’s a waste of time... In general, I screwed myself up and began to “peck” Olga and Evgenia on Viber. They conducted a very concise and careful dialogue with me and told me everything about Koh Chang as it is, without false promises. Of course, I understood that it was absurd to expect good or bad weather from an agency, tour operator or from a shaman with a tambourine, I just needed it at that moment.
In general, we decided that even if it rains, we are still ready to go to Koh Chang and get the most positive emotions from this excursion!
Koh Chang Island. And we still doubted whether it was worth going here :)
Fair weather land
The excursion to Koh Chang from Pattaya became our third order with Zhenya and Olya. You can read about our other trips in my articles on Uehali.com:
Since the excursion from Pattaya to Koh Chang is a two-day excursion, we paid a small deposit for it on the previous excursion. This is absolutely adequate and justified: you need to confirm in advance that your intentions are serious, because hotel rooms are reserved and paid for by us.
On the appointed day at about six in the morning we left our hotel in Pattaya. I won’t lie: yes, the road was quite long. On the way to Koh Chang, we sinfully even thought that we had gone in vain. Looking ahead, later my husband and I even admitted to each other that we should have even thought about it in vain! Everything went just wonderful, also thanks to the guide, a very friendly and sociable girl named Alexandra. She has been living in Thailand for 10 years, learned the Thai language and is already “one of her own” among the Thais.
A two-day excursion from Pattaya to Koh Chang begins with a stop at an unusual temple where monkeys live. Count how many monkeys are there in the photo? 😉
On the way to Koh Chang, we stopped at a temple built on a rock, where there were many, many monkeys. Yes, you need to be careful with them, which the guide, who provides instructions on communicating with these animals, always warns about. Here, bags of nuts are sold for pennies, which you can feed to your animals. It's very exciting: they carefully take food from their hands, run and jump around. By the way, there are Buddha statues near the temple, each for a different day of the week, and you can leave a coin near the Buddha of the day you were born and make a wish. I liked it very much!
After the temple, we were again waiting for the road along the “mainland”, a ferry crossing and - hello, Koh Chang!
Crossing to Koh Chang. The ferry carries not only local residents and tourists, but also food for the islanders.
At first sight we fell in love with the island. This is not even close to Pattaya, there are jungles all around, nature, the beauty is simply indescribable. We checked into the wonderful Grand Cabana hotel, the area is very green, well-groomed, beautiful, here you immediately immerse yourself in a fairy tale! After which a delicious and satisfying lunch awaited us, and then, of course, the sea! By the way, before this we only had “land” excursions, but they left much to be desired, so we can say that on Koh Chang we got to the sea for the first time during our vacation. And although there was a strong ebb and flow that day, we had great fun swimming. There were great waves, the water was warm. We met another couple and had a great time, splashing around on the waves like children)))
Well hello Koh Chang! Miracle Island greeted us with a delicious lunch, well-groomed hotel grounds…
...immediately behind which the stunningly beautiful beach began!
In the evening there was a fire show waiting for us, but we didn’t go to it. We had our own wonderful show: after dinner, our new friends and I sat on the terrace overlooking the bay and had a cultural relaxation with local pancakes and light alcohol (well, where would we be without it :-)). By the way, it was here that we “caught” rain for the first and only time during our entire vacation. Although it was raining there, it was drizzling a little. Which once again confirms: in this part of Thailand the weather is always good!
In general, the “rainy season in Pattaya” is a stereotype invented by tour operators. Yes, some parts of the country do experience tropical torrential rains, but Pattaya is the opposite! The weather there is wonderful all year round! We were in Pattaya for 15 days at the end of August and during the entire vacation, morning, afternoon, and evening, we never saw rain! Except that it rained a couple of times during the night - we only realized it from the freshness when we woke up in the morning. This is about the question.
An excursion from Pattaya to Koh Chang is an opportunity to see “the very” Bounty. Bounty is here at every step!
Three magical islands
Our two-day excursion from Pattaya to Koh Chang was based on the Premium program. That is, we included not only all the food (in the economy option - only breakfast), but also a cruise on three islands of the Koh Chang archipelago: Koh Lao Noi, Koh Wai, Koh Klum. This cruise took place on the second day of the trip. We were taken on a two-decker boat with a breeze. By the way, here too for tourists everything was, as they say, on a silver platter. Anti-sickness pills, as well as masks and snorkels were distributed to everyone who needed them. They swam and swam... and arrived at the first island. This is simply amazing, I simply have no other words! Here it is, the beauty and grandeur of nature, here it is, the bounty island, here they are, palm trees, white sand, crystal water... At that moment I thought: it means that my karma was well cleared in advance, since I ended up on these heavenly lands! And my husband Styopa really wanted to go snorkeling. Did you want to? Get it! Snorkeling on Koh Chang was such that all our fellow travelers and Styopa were simply in seventh heaven! For an hour he floundered with corals, fish, sea urchins and other creatures of the underwater world. But... it still burned))) Even though before that I very carefully smeared it with sunscreen. Therefore, friends, be very careful and do not forget about anti-/for/after-sun products!
A two-day excursion to Koh Chang from Pattaya is not only a holiday on the beautiful beaches of the “main” island, but also a cruise to three islands by ship with lunch, snorkeling, fishing and swimming in the open sea.
After that we visited two more islands. Each of them is beautiful and unique in its own way. Never before have I touched such wonderful sand with either my hands or feet; I have never swum in such crystal clear waters of the open sea. Well, isn't this a miracle? A special treat is for fishing enthusiasts, who were given fishing rods and bait: please, catch fish right away from the deck! By the way, when approaching the islands, Thais throw bread into the water and schools of colorful, incredibly beautiful fish swim to it!
In general, guys, be sure to go on a two-day excursion to Koh Chang from Pattaya. Yes, the road is not the closest, but believe me, the emotions you get from the trip will more than compensate for this!!!
Never before have I touched such wonderful sand with either my hands or feet; I have never swam in such crystal waters of the open sea...
P.S.: and in conclusion - a small lyrical digression. In the evening, talking with our new tourist friends on Koh Chang, we shared our impressions of the excursions we had already visited. Styopa and I excitedly talked about how successful our excursion had been, and the guys told us things that made us feel very sorry for them. I forgot the name of the agency from which they took the excursion to Kwai, but I remembered the name of the guide - Oleg. This Oleg ruined their entire impression of Thailand and their vacation. Not only did the tourists not hear anything interesting about the country: all he did was say all sorts of nasty things - how bad it was in Thailand, that there were bandits all around and life in general was a pain. We were shocked! Not only did the guys go on this “free excursion” from the tour operator, where they ride you like cannon fodder all day on a bus to 10 shops, but they were also unsuccessfully driven to Kwai. Well, but the excursion to Koh Chang island from Pattaya compensated them for their previous failures: they were truly happy both from the trip program and from communication with the guide Alexandra. This is what it means to choose the right company and guide for excursions!
