📱 Internet
Wi-Fi is available in hotels, private homes, cafes and restaurants. Often you need to ask the waiter for the password.
⚠️ Mentality
Morocco is a poor country. Local residents often try to make money from tourists. Taxi drivers and sellers charge high prices, and passers-by offer to show you the city or take you to an attraction. This looks like a desire to help, but at the end of the journey the “guide” will definitely ask for money. Therefore, it is better to ask merchants for directions: they usually do not require a fee.
🙅 Safety rules
Here are some things to keep in mind while on holiday in Morocco:
- Do not buy ready-made food at the market: sanitary conditions are not observed there.
- Do not drink water from the tap or from fountains: you can get poisoned.
- Don't walk around the city at night.
- Keep an eye on things in crowded places.
- Girls are not recommended to wear short skirts and shorts. Dresses, skirts below the knee, pants and tunics with long sleeves are suitable.
So, the traveler has planned a vacation trip to Morocco. As they say in Arabic: "Mabruk" which means congratulations! Now what? Before boarding a plane, there are a few things every traveler needs to know.
Morocco, Morocco, Morocco? Which is correct?
In English, the word is written: Morocco. In Russian: Morocco. But in Arabic, things aren't so simple with vowels, so it's really just anyone's guess. In this case, pronouncing correctly is much more important than writing correctly.
Are any vaccinations required before departure?
While this is always a personal choice, the answer is: there are no mandatory vaccines in Morocco. Many people try to protect themselves by getting vaccinated against rabies and hepatitis A and B. But in fact, during their entire stay in the country, no one had any health problems.
What is the local currency? Are credit cards accepted?
Moroccan dirham (DEE-rahm). The exchange rate is approximately 12 cents per dirham.
Relatively speaking, the dirham exchange rate is quite stable, so there should be no surprises. Of course, you can find goods at Western prices, but for the most part, Morocco is a place where you can and should bargain.
It is important to remember that cash from ATMs is issued in dirhams, and a bank commission of about 3 percent will be charged on withdrawals. Some credit cards still have no international transaction fees. Before departure, you must contact your credit card issuing bank for advice. Most major retail outlets accept credit cards. Bazaars (souks - open-air markets) and small shops are likely to require cash, and especially if the tourist is in the mood to bargain, cash is the trump card.
What language do they speak?
Moroccans speak a fascinating mixture of Arabic, Berber, English and French. In one sentence there is a high probability of hearing several languages, such as: “Mabruk! Welcome, haltu redu caf? e th??”.
While English is most likely to be understood in large cities, communication problems may arise in smaller and rural areas. In this case, Arabic and French are the salvation for the intrepid traveler.
What rules must be followed?
There are two rules that are very important to follow while in Morocco. The first thing is not to use your left hand for any purpose. For example, eating with it or shaking someone else's hand as a sign of greeting. Muslims, including Moroccans, consider this an unclean gesture; in Islam, only the right hand is considered clean. It is important to observe this primarily in public places, and it does not matter whether you are right-handed or left-handed.
The second rule concerns women's clothing. In Moroccan culture, women always dress very modestly, in contrast to Western trends. No one forbids tourists to wear short tops, skirts or shorts, but to be on the safe side and in tribute to the traditions of Morocco, it is still better to purchase clothes from a local store. In addition, it is always very light, flowing and will serve as a wonderful souvenir in the future. Piece-piece swimsuits are also preferable. Traditions are observed especially strictly in small towns and rural areas. In big cities and major tourist centers the attitude is more loyal.
Features of religion
Propaganda of any religion other than Islam is prohibited. This violation is punishable by a fine of up to 500 dirhams and imprisonment of up to 3 years.
What is the food like in Morocco? Can I eat fresh fruits, vegetables and drink water?
Food in Morocco consists exclusively of local products. As a result, the choice may be smaller, but most of the vegetables and fruits for the table are grown here and delivered very quickly and without any chemical treatment. The local cuisine in Morocco is a must-have, it is tasty and healthy and adds a certain flavor to your trip. It will not be superfluous to consume charcoal and yogurt. Also, for safety reasons, it is better to use bottled water and wash fruits and vegetables well.
What souvenirs to buy in Morocco?
We recommend reading the article What to buy in Morocco. And it is best to bring traditional local products from Morocco: carpets, leather goods (bags, shoes, clothes), wood products, ceramics, forged copper and brass products, babouches, robes.
A useful phrase in Arabic: "Lyaa, shukrAn" - "no need, thank you." Pushy sellers, beggars and self-proclaimed guides immediately lose interest in you. If you want to say: “thank you” - accordingly - “shukrAn” (emphasis on the “a”).
If you accept help from a local guide on the street, a fee is automatically assumed!

For many years, Morocco has been in great demand among tourists from different countries. Relatively recently, this destination has become popular among Russian tourists, thanks to carriers that launched direct charter flights. Morocco truly deserves people to come here to relax - it has the highest level of service, comfortable hotels, ready to satisfy every whim of the most capricious and demanding guests. Many hotels provide spa services and thalassotherapy, which is especially popular with the fair half.
Also, it is worth noting the national cuisine: couscous, fried young lamb, marshmallows, marinated beef in sauce and much more. Not a single dish will leave you indifferent.
The national dish is couscous.

Cost of a holiday in Marrakech. June 2017.
tour cost
The cost of a trip for two people was 78 thousand rubles. with departure from Moscow. Travel package for 11 days, 10 nights.
We took a sightseeing tour of the city and its surroundings from the street. For two the price was 60 dollars. Group of 8 people with a Russian-speaking guide. We visited several ancient places with a rich history; entry cost between 150-300 rubles. per person.
Separately, I would like to note the Majorelle Garden, the entrance price is 800 rubles. from the visitor. They didn’t understand what was special about it and why the cost of entry was so high. Definitely not worth the money.
We independently visited the famous square of this city, Jema el-Fna. Everything is free, except that the performers immediately start asking for money as soon as they see a tourist in the audience and may stop the show until you throw in a couple of coins. I really don’t advise women to go there alone; overall, the spectacle is interesting and memorable.
Food and products
Lunch for two people in a normal establishment cost 900-1100 rubles. Local wine is tasty and not bad at prices, from 200-300 rubles. you can find a quality drink.
Souvenirs and other goods
Locals love to bargain and it’s better to go to the market for souvenirs. Here you can buy cosmetics, I highly recommend fondants on ceramic shards, they turned out to be the most desired gift upon arrival. The price per piece was about 20 rubles.

Holiday impressions in November
Morocco is good in winter because it is warm and sunny. Agadir is the southernmost city in the country, which is warm almost all year round. However, Agadir is not very suitable for a beach holiday in November. I would say that in general Morocco is not very suitable for a beach holiday at any time of the year. The water temperature in the ocean can be +22 only in August. The rest of the time +18+19 degrees. Therefore, it is definitely not possible to seal on the beaches in Agadir in November-December. But it’s a great time for active recreation. There are no tourists, prices are lower than in summer. And it’s not too hot to get acquainted with the local flavor.
What to take with you on vacation?
Agadir is the most touristic city in Morocco. Behind the high walls of hotels, you will feel comfortable in both a swimsuit and an open evening dress. But outside the hotel, you should adhere to a more closed dress code. This is still a Muslim country. The attention of local men is already focused on female tourists; you shouldn’t provoke them with a neckline or extremely short skirts. Therefore, it is worth taking shawls and pareos with you, in which you can wrap yourself up, hiding your exposed shoulders and legs. Not necessarily with your head; only local women cover their faces here.
Where is the best place to stay?
Agadir is a fairly old resort. Once upon a time, beautiful large hotels were built here, which are now gradually falling into disrepair. They don’t do any major renovations here, they just add an external polish. And then - not everywhere. The most comfortable and cozy hotels are located quite far from the city center. So, we need to stop there. The old town of Agadir was destroyed by an earthquake. So there is nothing to see in the center.
What to do at the resort?
There is nothing to do outside the hotel in Agadir. If you are into surfing, it is worth a trip to the neighboring village of Taghazout. This is a former surfer village that has grown a bit and turned into a rather cozy and comfortable place. Here, fishermen still go out to sea on their longboats, catch fish, and then sell it from the boat right on the shore. They can even cook on coals. Tasty!
You can travel from Agadir to a unique place with natural arches - the beaches of Legzira. It is located south of the city of Sidi Ifni. Unfortunately, you can only get there by taxi. If you can negotiate with a taxi driver, you should go there closer to sunset. It will be an unforgettable experience, believe me.
Excursions from Agadir can take you all over Morocco.
We went on a three-day excursion to the Sahara Desert. The road is quite tiring, but the experience of visiting a real desert is worth it.

Marrakech is one of the four most important cities in the Kingdom of Morocco, it was the capital during the reign of the Almoravid and Almohad dynasties, abandoned during the Marinades and flourished under the Saadins and the current Alawite dynasty.
The favorable geographical location of the city, in the place where the north and south of the country meet—not far from the Sahara on one side and the Atlantic Ocean on the other—gives it special significance.
Here is the beginning of the roads leading to Agadir, Casablanca, Fes and Meknes.
In addition, Marrakech faces the mountains with a direction towards part of the Sahara if you cross the Tizi_en_tishka passes.
I will give you a tour of the old city, where you can see the main attractions of the city like the Koutoubia Mosque, the Bahia Palace, the Marrakech Museum, the Saadian tombs, the secret garden and the Majorelle Garden.

6. Excellent conditions for surfers.
Disadvantages of holidays in Morocco.
1. The staff at the hotel speak little English; those who speak French will definitely be much easier to express themselves.
2. Most hotels do not have their own beaches, and therefore all equipment is purchased at an additional cost.
3. Once in the trading zone, you will definitely encounter annoying sellers, from whom it is not always easy to get rid of.
4. Local cuisine is often very spicy, as Moroccans like to add large amounts of spices to their dishes.
5. When staying at a hotel, you should definitely store all your valuables in a safe. The country of Morocco is quite poor, and theft among staff is possible.

Morocco is one of the beautiful and mysterious countries in the world. This is a country of deserts and fairy tales, with an ancient and rich history. In the west of Morocco it is washed by the waters of the Atlantic Ocean, and in the north by the Mediterranean Sea. And in the south the country borders on the endless Sahara Desert. Holidays in this country can only be compared to complete immersion in an Arabian fairy tale with palaces. And tourists can enjoy this traditional Arabian exoticism without leaving civilization in comfortable conditions. But just recently it was a closed country. But now its residents have hospitably opened their doors and welcome everyone. Tourists will find such ancient cities as Fes, Tangier, Rabat and Marrakech.
This country has unusual natural conditions that leave no one indifferent. In addition, Morocco has a beautiful and varied landscape. This is explained by the fact that the country is located on the border of different natural zones - sea and desert. Tourists come to Morocco not only for a beach holiday; many are also attracted by the opportunity to take a closer look at the history of the country and see the sights. And shopping lovers will also find what they want in Morocco. Trade in this country usually takes place in markets. These are real oriental bazaars, where the assortment of goods makes your eyes wide open. There you can buy ceramics, clothes, souvenirs and much more. It is especially impressive to walk through the bazaar to the sounds of adhan, which come from numerous mosques. And in different cities the assortment may differ slightly. But the most important thing is that you have to bargain everywhere to the last.
Agadir
There are several resorts in Morocco. Agadir is considered the most famous.
It is located in the Sioux Valley on the Atlantic coast. But people go to Agadir not only to swim and enjoy the sun. Many tourists go surfing, golfing and horse riding there. And in May there are even surfing and water skiing competitions. This resort town has the best beach in Morocco, about 6 kilometers long. It is from Agadir that the main excursion programs originate, especially trips to the south of the country.
But, of course, the main attraction and pride of Agadir is its amazingly beautiful beach. And even though this is a Muslim country, you can wear ordinary European clothes in the city
Marrakech
This city is one of the most attractive for tourists in Morocco. It is rich in history, sights and interesting places.
One of the most famous and interesting attractions is the Medina. As you know, this is an old city with narrow streets. Namely, the medina of Marrakech is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. This city is rich in its traditional markets. You just have to try not to get lost there.
Another interesting place in Marrakesh is Jema el Fna Square. This is the busiest place in the city. But during the day it is not very comfortable to be on it. It's a different matter in the evening, when you won't see anyone there - there are Moroccan women doing henna tattoos and acrobats and snake charmers. The best way to spend time on the square is to visit a cafe with an observation deck, which offers a good view of the square. And there you can eat delicious Moroccan dishes and watch people passing by.
Also interesting to visit is the Ali Ben Yusuf Mosque. This is an ancient mosque, but appropriate clothing is required to visit it.
You can also visit the madrasah, which is located next to this mosque.
In Marrakesh, you also can’t miss visiting the Bahia Palace, which amazes with its luxurious architecture. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=es9-qPOun48 The name translates as Beauty's Palace and despite the fact that it only has one floor, it is very intricate and large. In this palace, it’s as if you find yourself in the fairy tale of Scheherazade, or as the Arabs call Scheherazade. There you can see very beautiful fountains and luxuriously decorated walls and ceilings. But the palace is completely uncomfortable, I wouldn’t want to live in it.
At the Dar si Said museums, tourists can get acquainted with folk crafts. And also in Marrakech you can visit very beautiful gardens and parks.
Rabat
To go to Morocco and not visit the capital of the country means making an unforgivable mistake. In addition to being the political, cultural and industrial center of Morocco, Rabat is also an ancient city located on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean. The Moroccan capital amazes with its original architecture, which breathes both West and East. But Rabat managed to maintain its national flavor despite its high capital status.
One of the most famous attractions of Rabat is the Kasbah of Oudaia. The fortress itself is located on a rock and, in fact, the history of Rabat began with it. Although in appearance it does not look much like an Arab structure. It was built by the Moors, and they are from Europe and are familiar with European architecture. Visiting this fortress is very interesting and you don’t even need a guide.
And, of course, like any Moroccan city, Rabat also has a Medina. But if I can put it this way, then this is the medina of all Moroccan medinas and an example of what it should be like. Everything there is very clean, beautiful and well-groomed. It can be used as an example for other cities.
In general, there are other attractions in Rabat. But even walking around this city you can notice a lot of interesting things. For example, he is not as noisy as Casablanca, but seems a little proud and arrogant. The capital after all. All signs and store names are written in Arabic and French. Few people speak English there, and it seemed to me that this language is generally parallel to them. But the locals are generally quite friendly people. There are also very beautiful white buildings and wonderful fountains.
You can talk about Morocco for hours and sometimes you can’t wrap your head around the fact that this country is located on the dark continent and this is, after all, Africa. This continent has many faces and Morocco is one of its pearls, and a very beautiful one at that. You can come there again and again to enjoy the amazing beaches, walks in the desert and the noise of the incomparable medina. Many people fall in love with this country and come there again and again.
