Today, premium class trains run between Moscow, Kazan, Nizhny Novgorod, Novorossiysk, Rostov-on-Don and Yekaterinburg.
The carriages are equipped with special air conditioning systems, toilet complexes, LCD TVs, magnetic locks and other modern equipment. In the service area of the car there is a refrigerator, sink, microwave and drinking water.
Special attention is paid to the technical software of the train. All necessary information about the technical condition of the cars is constantly transmitted to the head car of the train.
The cost of travel on premium class trains is flexibly differentiated depending on the upper or lower location of the seats. In luxury carriages, children under 10 years of age have free travel.

2. Travel speed
There are high-speed, express and passenger trains:
high-speed passenger trains must have a route speed of at least 100 km/h at permissible speeds in the range
141-200 km/h;
fast passenger trains must have a route speed of at least 50 km/h;
passenger trains have a route speed of less than 50 km/h.

Types of passenger cars
All train cars of JSC "FPK" are equipped with a heating system (works in winter, is mothballed for summer). Depending on the class of service, the carriages can be equipped with dry closets, air conditioning (work in the summer, preserved for the winter), and they can provide additional paid services included in the fare.
The following types of passenger cars run on JSC FPC passenger trains:
On locomotive traction:
Luxury carriages
The carriages have several varieties: with six compartments per carriage, with five and with four. The carriages, which have four compartments, are equipped with a lounge bar.
The compartment of a luxury class carriage is 1.5 times larger than the standard one in a carriage with six compartments and 2 times larger in a carriage with four. The compartment has 2 sleeping places: a sofa that transforms into a single bed 120 cm wide, and an upper shelf 90 cm wide. The compartment has an armchair and a folding table.
Each compartment has an individual bathroom with a washbasin, a vacuum toilet, which functions even during stops, and a shower (in a carriage with four compartments there is a shower). The floor in the bathroom is heated.
The compartment of the luxury class carriage is equipped with an individual air conditioning system, a TV, a DVD player and a radio.
SV cars
The carriage contains 8 or 9 2-berth compartments with places to lie down, two toilets with washbasins.
The compartment contains two lower or lower and upper berths, a table, a mirror on the compartment door and walls (except for transformer cars), clothes hangers, and places to place hand luggage.
Compartment carriages
The compartment passenger car has 9 four-seater compartments, 2 toilets with washbasins.
Each compartment has two upper and lower shelves, a table, a mirror on the compartment door, clothes hangers, and space for hand luggage.
More than 150 trains operate compartment cars with specialized compartments for passengers with disabilities.
MIKST cars
These are cars that have the characteristics of two types of cars (Lux and SV or SV and compartment).
Second-class carriages
The reserved seat passenger car has 9 open compartments, 2 toilets with washbasins.
The carriage is designed for 54 sleeping places, 4 places in each compartment: two lower places, two upper places and 18 side places: upper and lower. In each compartment, as well as in the side places, there is a table, space for hand luggage, and hooks for clothes.
General carriages
A carriage with seating. As a rule, reserved seat cars are used - 81 seats, sometimes compartment cars - 54 seats.
Cars with seating
These are carriages equipped with comfortable seating.
The cars are divided into cars with a standard layout of seats (50-70), with an improved (up to 50) cabin type and cars based on a compartment car. The carriages have 2 toilets with washbasins.
Also on the trains there are double-decker compartment cars, SV cars and carriages with seats.
International carriages
In international traffic (except for the CIS and Baltic countries, China, Mongolia, North Korea), “Lux”, SV and compartment cars of RIC size run. Standard (as in domestic traffic) “Lux”, SV and compartment cars run to the CIS and Baltic countries, China, Mongolia, and North Korea.
In addition, “Strizh” trains with carriages (compartment cars, carriages with seats, SV, “Lux”) produced by the TALGO company operate in domestic and international traffic.
Motorized rolling stock
Multi-unit trains "Lastochka" and other electric and diesel trains with seats operate in interregional traffic.
The number of seats depends on the design of the car.
The fundamental difference between multi-unit rolling stock and locomotive-hauled trains is that all or some of the cars are equipped with engines intended for traction and cabins for transporting passengers; in a train with locomotive traction, the cars are not self-propelled.
Concept of even and odd trains
In general, trains traveling from south to north and from west to east have even numbers, and trains traveling from north to south and from east to west have odd numbers. If it is impossible to accurately determine the direction of movement of the train, this rule works partially for some section of the track. Sometimes along the way the train changes its number from even to odd or vice versa. Exceptions to the rule of even/odd numbering of trains - St. Petersburg. Most trains departing from St. Petersburg have odd numbers. Although recently St. Petersburg has also been transferred to a common system (trains 72, 74 to Yekaterinburg and Tyumen, 40 to Astana, etc.)
What does the letter in the train number mean?
In general, the letter in the train number is simply the fourth character, making the train number unique. If the railway used only three-digit numbers, they could only designate 999 trains, and there are many more. Therefore, a fourth character is added - a letter. At the same time, they try to give letter designations in such a way that trains with the same numerical designations do not meet. For example, long-distance train No. 001a St. Petersburg - Moscow (Leningradsky Station) and train No. 001b Moscow (Belorussky Station) - Minsk do not meet each other anywhere. Therefore, it is possible to announce only the numerical train number to passengers to avoid confusion.
There are also some other patterns with letters in train numbers. Firstly, sometimes it happens that one train includes several different numbers. For example, 001a and 001b (St. Petersburg - Moscow, "Red Arrow"). In this case, different letters indicate different organizations that form the cars of a given part of the train. If a train has branded and unbranded cars, then they are also assigned different letters. If a train runs on some days as a branded train, and on others as a non-branded train, then it also receives different letters, although its schedule is the same. Another letter can denote different service teams. And sometimes the letter indicates the direction of the train (for example, 104m Moscow - Adler and 104c Adler - Moscow). And, finally, there is a pattern between the path of the train formation and the letter, but it is not one hundred percent.
A branded train is a train with high-quality service and a wide range of services.
The schedule of such a train is developed taking into account the most convenient time of departure and arrival at the final station or the shortest travel time.
Currently, branded trains transport passengers to various regions of the country and connect the capitals of the republics of the Russian Federation.
The main differences between branded trains:
1. Convenient schedule (compared to alternative long-distance passenger trains).
2. Modern carriages no older than 12 years after construction, equipped with air conditioning.
3. Qualified guides who have completed training according to a special program.
4. Bed linen, bedding and sanitary items of improved quality.
5. Before boarding, bed linen is laid on the upper berths, with the exception of the side berths in reserved seat carriages.
6. Comfortable dining car with an expanded range of dishes.
And, of course, a guaranteed range of services: sales of tea and confectionery products, printed publications, souvenirs and other goods for travel.

Almost all passengers know that there are fast and accelerated trains, branded and passenger trains, but not many know how they differ. We propose to address this knowledge gap.
What types of trains are there?
First you need to understand the classification of trains. The classification criterion is route speed, that is, the time it takes to cover the distance from one point to another. Read more about what types of trains are depending on speed below.
High speed
High-speed trains are considered the fastest. They are capable of moving at speeds of 200–400 km/h. Their main feature is that they cannot move on regular rails. A special fabric is built for them that can withstand heavy loads. The high-speed highway appeared back in the 2000s and continues to actively develop. Now the fastest trains run from the capital to other cities, and also allow you to get from Russia to European cities.
For example, the most famous high-speed train is the Sapsan, which runs between the capital and St. Petersburg and allows you to cover the distance between these cities twice as fast. "Allegro" is an international high-speed train, as it runs from the Northern capital to Helsinki.
Currently, Russian Railways is constructing a high-speed line, the length of which is about 1,500 km. Trains will be able to travel along it at a speed of about 400 km/h. It will connect Moscow with the Volga region and Siberia. The train will run from the capital through Kazan to Yekaterinburg. In the future, it is planned to build a similar highway from Moscow to Sochi.
Express
The route speed of such trains is slightly lower - about 140 km/h, although on flat sections of the road they can accelerate to 200 km/h. In ordinary life, a distinction is not made between high-speed and high-speed trains, since the movement of both categories requires a special track.
- “Swallow” is a train that moves at an average speed of 140-160 km/h. Such trains travel from the capital and St. Petersburg to Nizhny Novgorod, as well as throughout the Krasnodar Territory.
- "Strizh" - travels at speeds of up to 200 km/h along the route from Moscow to Nizhny Novgorod and back.
Ambulances
The technical speed of fast trains is no different from passenger trains, but due to the fact that they make few stops (only at large stations and train stations), they cover the distance much faster. The route speed of such trains ranges from 50 to 90 km/h. The ticket price is a little more expensive. There are hundreds of trains traveling across the vastness of the state, in different directions.
For example, a train called “Sura” runs from Moscow to Penza, and “Lotos” will connect the capital with Astrakhan. The fast train “South Ural” also runs between Moscow and Chelyabinsk. There are other trains of the same type on other routes. Usually they do not have a special name, but are simply numbered. Fast trains depart from Moscow to almost all regions.
Accelerated
There is no such name officially. This category includes freight trains that travel faster than regular trains. They are used for transporting perishable goods. Not used for transporting passengers.
Branded
In terms of speed, branded trains are fast, as they travel at a speed of 50-90 km/h. But this is their only similarity. A special feature of branded trains is a high level of comfort and service. Passengers can count on a range of additional services that make the trip as comfortable as possible. The basic level of service is also set at a high level. Conductors working on such trains must undergo special training.
All branded trains have their own name. For example, a train running from the capital to Perm is called “Kama”, and from Moscow to Tomsk – “Tomich”, from the capital to Kirov – “Vyatka”, and so on. When purchasing tickets, you should pay attention to whether the travel document is marked “fast”. In its absence, the train will move like a regular passenger train, but will have comfortable conditions and a range of services for the convenience of passengers.
Passenger
Such trains travel the route at speeds of up to 50 km/h, although technically they can travel no slower than trains classified as “fast”. The main difference is that they stop at every stop, which significantly slows down his movement along the route. Such trains are in great demand, despite the fact that they move slowly.
There are two reasons for this:
- The fare is quite low, especially compared to other categories.
- By passenger train you can get to a small station or a small town. Express trains simply do not stop at such stations.
Passenger trains are branded, that is, they have improved service and additional services. An example of such a train is “White Nights” - a train that runs from Moscow to Vologda. If the ticket does not have the designation “fast”, it means that it is a passenger ticket by default.
The number of passenger trains is becoming less and less every year. They are being replaced by trains that can move faster.
The most popular transport in our country is railway. Anyone who regularly uses it, of course, knows that there are different categories of trains according to the level of service.
What is a branded train?
Its main difference is that in terms of comfort, this composition is one step higher than usual. It has a wide range of services and a higher level of service.
The foreign branded "Orient Express" became widely known thanks to the literary work.
The first such train in the Soviet Union appeared back in June 1931 and was called “Strela”. To this day, completely updated and renamed “Red Arrow,” it continues to comfortably carry passengers.
All compositions of this level certainly have their own name. They are distinguished by a specific individual design. All carriages of branded trains are designed in the same style inside and outside. Uniforms for service personnel are sewn in the same colors and with the corresponding logos.
Offered service
A branded train is formed from cars with a service life not exceeding twelve years from the date of manufacture or overhaul.
The presence of a restaurant and highly comfortable carriages is mandatory. Services are immediately included in the ticket price.
Bed linen is used for a short period of time and is quickly replaced with fresh ones.
The branded train has dry closets, heating systems, and air conditioning.
The formation of a service team of such trains is carried out from highly qualified conductors who have passed special certification for this purpose.
Services provided to passengers
The minimum range of services offered includes:
⦁ provision of cool boiled water;
⦁ bed cleaning and making service;
⦁ three times a day offer of tea or coffee;
⦁ provision of heated food, and in economy class they offer 3 or more meal options, in business class - 4 or more, in luxury class - 5 or more;
⦁ provision of drinks (in economy class - a half-liter bottle of mineral water, in business class - at least two types of juices or soft drinks and four types of alcohol);
⦁ supply of newspapers (in economy class: three or more titles, in business class - four, in luxury class - five).
All carriage categories have their own set of sanitary and hygienic products:
⦁ for economy class it consists of napkins, comb, brush and toothpaste, toothpick;
⦁ for business class, the listed set is expanded with soap, a handkerchief, and a shoe horn;
⦁ in the suite, this includes the addition of a bottle of shampoo, shower gel, washing sponge, in addition, there are slippers, a terry robe, hand cream, and shoe polish.
Premium ingredients
The year 2009 was marked by the appearance of premium class trains, in which the comfort is the highest. They are distinguished by a monotonous design style - gray and silver color, interior design, and the obligatory presence of the Russian Railways logo.
The train formation scheme is also the same: it is mandatory to have a luxury car, three SV cars, up to a dozen compartment cars, a couple of reserved seats, and a restaurant.
The carriages are new, they have magnetic locks, heating systems, air conditioners, dry closets, LCD TVs, network adapters, and devices where passengers can plug in headphones.
The train has cable TV, Internet access, and computer games.
If necessary, you can order hot dishes from the waiter in your compartment.
Signature double-decker train
The appearance of the Russian Railways in the system made it possible to increase passenger traffic on the most popular routes.
In February last year, such a train was launched on the route between the capital and St. Petersburg under number 5/6. It was called the "Two-Decker Train".
The schedule of branded trains is always prepared taking into account the convenience of passengers. Departure from both ends is at 22.50, respectively, arrival at the final destination is around 6.45.
Taking into account the increase in the total number of seats, it became possible to reduce the fare. The price of a compartment ticket on this train starts at 1,299 rubles.
The latest technologies and environmentally friendly materials are used in the production of its cars.
The restaurant has a dining room for 48 passengers.
The compartment car has 16 compartments on two floors, each of which has four places to sleep, a table, a ladder for climbing to the second shelf, two sockets where electric shavers, mobile phones and other gadgets are connected.
Magnetic key cards are issued for access to compartments.
Carriage equipment consists of:
⦁ heating system and air conditioning to create favorable climatic conditions;
⦁ three dry closets that are also operational when the train stops;
⦁ sealed inter-car passage;
⦁ video systems for surveillance and security.
The staff car has a compartment with a device for lifting wheelchairs, where people with limited mobility can travel comfortably. In the same carriage there is GLONASS satellite equipment.
Tickets for the branded train are sold under the “Dynamic Pricing” program, that is, a passenger can buy a ticket at the lowest cost for a specific date.
As available seats on the train decrease and there is increased demand for a certain date, the cost of a ticket may increase.
