Also at the end of November there is a colorful festival of young wine. In winter, Paris has a Christmas atmosphere with traditional fairs and sales. If you go to Paris in winter
On the eve of the New Year holidays, the city comes to life, life is in full swing here and the influx of tourists increases. Winter is a great time for Christmas, because Christmas sales begin in all stores.
In the capital it depends on many factors, so we strongly recommend that you follow the latest data from meteorologists.
When is the best time to go to Paris - how the French capital attracts tourists in summer, autumn, winter and spring.
Beautiful Paris. Elegant, romantic, modern capital. A haven for lovers and a gastronomic paradise. People come here, to one of the most attractive cities on earth, to experience the magic of elegant streets, admire the elegance of medieval cathedrals, and plunge into the romance of ancient quarters. No one remains indifferent to the charm of this city, in which the imprint of antiquity is harmoniously combined with the fresh splendor of modernity, the atmosphere of which is imbued with the spirit of romance novels. Creative people come here for inspiration, lovers come here for new, bright impressions. Therefore, when is the best time to go to Paris, everyone decides for themselves. The capital of France is beautiful at any time of the year. Every season here is unique. Each has its own charms and pitfalls.
Winter Paris attracts tourists with elegant store windows, fun festivals, colorful parades, interesting exhibitions and, of course, post-New Year sales. Illumination has been appearing on the city streets since the beginning of December. In winter, the festive atmosphere is best felt in the French capital; this is the most pleasant time for family trips. On the eve of the New Year, Paris turns into a fabulous city - exquisitely elegant and endlessly romantic. Christmas, New Year, Day of Light - all these holidays in Paris are truly magical. True, prices at this time are appropriate, and the influx of tourists is maximum.
In November, traditional Christmas markets open in the city, where you can buy all kinds of souvenirs, toys and delicacies. The first of them takes place in the La Défense area, and the largest is on the Champs Elysees. Throughout December, Notre Dame Cathedral offers a free, spectacular light show illustrating the story of Christmas. On Light Day, millions of lights are lit simultaneously on the streets of the evening city. And in February, walks along Parisian avenues are interesting with colorful carnivals and the Retromobile exhibition of retro cars.
Winter in Paris is not very cold; there is almost no snow or frost. Only in January, the coldest month of the year, does the weather sometimes bring surprises in the form of several days marked by snow. In February, Paris becomes a little warmer; after a long period of impotence, the sun's rays break through the curtain of dense clouds for the first time. On a dark, chilly winter evening, it’s so pleasant to sit in a cozy cafe, drink hot chocolate and watch how the light of street lamps shimmers with the festive lights of Christmas markets, elegant colorful garlands and unreal illumination of shop windows, and all this against the backdrop of trees and sidewalks dusted with a snow-white blanket.
Paris is beautiful at any time of the year, but in the spring the city of lovers is especially beautiful. Few people want to argue with this. Everything around is blossoming, fountains begin to work, summer terraces open, musicians perform on the embankments and squares - the majestic ancient city seems to be getting younger before our eyes. In March, although the sun is shining like spring, the weather is still not very warm - the thermometer rarely rises above +7º. Walking through the old quarters will bring incomparable pleasure at this time. Among the gray and white stone houses, a tree suddenly appears, completely covered with delicate greenery and white and pink flowers. Tulips, crocuses and daffodils bloom in gardens and parks. The air, saturated with the aromas of the first flowers, is literally intoxicating.
And if the March weather is quite unpredictable, prone to presenting surprises - both in the form of unexpected frosts and long-awaited thaws, then from mid-April the city is transformed beyond recognition: it is all so sunny, blooming, fragrant. And May, when parks and gardens are surrounded by lush greenery, is considered one of the best months of the year for a trip to Paris. And at this time chestnuts are blooming in the city. It is interesting that on May 1st there are no rallies or demonstrations in France; this day has long been a lily of the valley holiday for the French. Delicate flowers are sold everywhere, Parisians give and keep elegant bouquets, firmly believing that they bring happiness.
March is interesting with an art fair, the Paris Film Festival, St. Patrick's Day, April with a Culinary Festival, the Paris Marathon and a fair in the Bois de Vincennes, and May is notable for jazz festivals, the Paris Fair, the Spring in the Streets festival and the Victory Day celebrations on the Champs-Elysees solemn parade.
Summer in Paris is wonderful weather: warm but not hot, thanks to the refreshing westerly winds. These are outdoor festivals, many of which are free. These are a variety of exhibitions, concerts, festivals, attractions and other entertainment that can satisfy the taste of even the most sophisticated traveler. True, due to the abundance of tourists in the summer, Paris turns into a noisy, hectic city, but this does not prevent it from looking joyful and elegant.
June evenings, when it is not yet very hot outside, the greenery around is still fresh like spring, and the flowers delight with their diversity, are simply made for walking around the city. June in Paris is the La Villette jazz festival, the Saint-Denis music festival and the Festival of Music. And in the first month of summer, a fair is held on Saint-Germain-des-Prés Street - very unusual, in the tradition of medieval markets. Only in summer are all the towers of Paris open until late: by climbing them, you can look at the evening city from a bird's eye view, see a magical panorama of the capital against the backdrop of the setting sun. And as night falls, the doors of noisy Parisian cabarets open.
It's hot in Paris in July. The green lawns of the Champ de Mars, shady alleys of squares and parks, quiet ponds and fountains splashing with cool water will help you escape the summer heat. City beaches are also open in summer. A boat trip along the Seine will be unforgettable: you can not only sail under its 15 bridges, admiring the delicate frame of the embankments, but also combine it with a romantic dinner in a cafe - the whimsical play of street lamps, the freshness emanating from the water surface, the sophistication of French cuisine - all this will help create an uplifting mood.
The main event of July is the large-scale celebration of Bastille Day, one of the most revered holidays by the French. All of Paris dances in the streets and squares on this day. And the sky of the evening city lights up with multi-colored lights of festive fireworks. The second half of July is attractive for shopping lovers: the summer sales season begins. By the end of the month, discounts on goods in stores reach up to 70%.
In autumn, the capital of France can greet you with cloudy, cloudy skies, cool weather and drizzling rain. But in the hearts of true romantics, autumn Paris leaves only the most vivid and unforgettable impressions. Crimson-golden clothes in which green parks and gardens are dressed up like summer, bright asters in autumn flower beds, a frame of yellowing foliage, amazingly combined with the grandeur of ancient fortresses and the gray silence of squares - the beauty of fading nature makes Paris especially beautiful at the beginning of autumn, gives the city a special charm and charm.
Autumn in Paris is the time when the city wakes up a little later than usual, when the Eiffel Tower seems to “float” out of a foggy haze every morning, when there are more and more loving couples in parks and squares in the evenings, and on a date, instead of a Panama hat and sunglasses, you need take a warm sweater with you. In autumn, Paris turns into a paradise for art lovers. This is the time for theater and film premieres, fashion shows, and outdoor festivals. The cultural life of the capital in autumn is especially rich.
In September, one of the most beautiful cities in the world pleases its residents and guests with warm weather: the summer heat subsides, but the sun still shines gently and warmly. At this time, when the autumn rain has not yet had time to wash away the bright colors of summer, when the crowds of tourists dissipate a little, you can walk along the quiet, cozy streets of the “old city” for hours, discovering more and more of their corners. The aromas of slight sadness, some melancholy and nostalgia for the past summer are in the air. True, sadness quickly dissipates in the rays of the gentle sun.
October is marked by a noticeable cooling: during the day, although the thermometer freezes at +15°, in the mornings there is sometimes a slight frost. November is a rather damp and dank month, with an average air temperature of +6°. True, although it does not pamper you with warmth, it does provide an opportunity to explore the ancient cathedrals of the capital leisurely, without numerous groups of tourists.
In October, mass celebrations take place: Montmartre hosts a grand harvest festival - a colorful festival dedicated to the grape harvest. Each time, in honor of this event, patrons and townspeople come up with something new and interesting. All French bohemians come to taste delicious treats and new wine. Music, dancing, fancy dress, all kinds of performances - for just one day the city is immersed in noisy, serene fun.
From all of the above, we can conclude that the ideal time to travel to Paris is from September to October and from April to May. It is better to plan your trip for September - early October, the second half of May and the first weeks of June. Those looking to save money should consider traveling to Paris in the winter, after the February sales end, in early spring and late autumn. For example, in February and March, prices for air tickets and hotel accommodations are the lowest, and the cost of visiting museums and other attractions is pleasantly surprising. On the eve of the New Year holidays, during the period of big sales, on Easter and the May holidays, from the second half of June to September there are a lot of tourists in the city, so prices for almost all services skyrocket.
Whatever Paris may be - sad and thoughtful, joyful and bright, bathed in golden foliage, buried in lush greenery, illuminated by festive lights, this magical city is beautiful at any time of the year. A true traveler will not be disturbed by winter winds, autumn rains, or summer heat. After all, everyone seeks and discovers their own Paris. Everyone has their own favorite time of year in this beautiful city. Let your meeting with the French capital be unforgettable!
The most visited city in the world, whose atmosphere is saturated with sentiment and the spirit of romance novels, the capital of France, Paris, is located in the north of the country on both banks of the Seine River. Read our article on the Tour Calendar and you will find out why the most favorable time to visit this unique place is mid-spring - early summer, as well as the first two months of autumn.
Tourist season in Paris
“A holiday that is always with you...” - this is what Ernest Hemingway used to say about Paris. No one remains indifferent to the charm of this city, which harmoniously combines the spirit of antiquity and the fresh sparkle of modernity. Great writers immortalized it in the lines of their works, and talented artists captured Parisian landscapes in their paintings; this process does not stop to this day. The French capital, whose season lasts all year round, is the leader in the number of tourists coming here: about 30 million people visit it annually (of which about 500,000 are Russians). This is several times more tourist traffic to Rome, London or Athens, which is explained by the presence of a large concentration of world-class attractions, as well as the status of a major financial and cultural center of Europe. This is where the headquarters of UNESCO and the International Chamber of Commerce are based.
High season
Paris is one of the most densely populated capitals in Europe, so the city seems to be teeming with tourists at any time of the year. However, this is not quite true. It is very seriously “flooded” by visitors on Easter, the May holidays, from mid-June to mid-September, on Christmas and New Year’s Eve (New Year’s illuminations are solemnly lit in November), as well as during the period of big sales. Prices for almost all services skyrocket at this time. Therefore, budget tourists planning to stay in the city during the high season should take care of air tickets and accommodation long before the date of their trip, since hot tours to Paris are a big profanation of travel agencies, because trips to the capital of world fashion and art are never available. Separately, I would like to dwell on the summer months. Many sources indicate that July and August are the low season, when local residents try to leave the city and go to French beaches or abroad. This opinion is correct only from the point of view of the number of citizens in the general flow of people in Paris during this period. However, this fact is not reflected in the slightest in the asking prices. Is there a better chance of renting housing in the private sector?
Low season
Low season? This is not about Paris! Its streets are always full of tourists insatiable for romance and attractions. But there are still months when their number decreases slightly, and a calmer and more contemplative atmosphere reigns in the city. After a busy summer season, the first decline is observed in October: the last schoolchildren and students returned to their desks, and the bulk of the older generation, having taken their allotted vacation, went to work. It cannot be said that at this moment there is a significant reduction in prices, but they definitely become 10%-20% lower, and this is real savings. November is a completely “relaxed” month, but we note that only in comparison with the summer months: multilingual talk can be heard from everywhere, but the chances of being trampled in line at the Eiffel Tower or while walking around Montmartre are reduced to zero. Another period of the so-called off-season is the end of winter sales in February. But the calm does not last long, since in March-April people come to Paris en masse to celebrate Easter, and this holiday is followed by a series of other, no less exciting events.
Best time for excursions
In Paris there are the most popular attractions not only throughout France, but also throughout the world, which have long become places of real tourist pilgrimage. Judge for yourself: almost 7 million people climb the Eiffel Tower every year, about 8 million people visit the masterpiece Louvre, and about 10 million people “celebrate” at Versailles! On a day during the high season, a queue of 30,000 people lines up at each of the famous tourist sites in France. Now imagine how long you need to stand in it to get to the desired place. After this question, many people’s imagination runs wild, especially if these “many” are with children. As you can see, summer is not the best time to get acquainted with the cultural and historical riches of Paris; it is best to come here for these purposes from April to early June (with the exception of the May holidays), as well as in September - October.
Season of discounts and sales
Parisian stores hold the largest sales in the first week of January and in July. They last a little over a month, with the biggest discounts observed in recent weeks. Sometimes stores organize attractions of unprecedented generosity even on the eve of the New Year holidays. There is also the concept of private sales of luxury brand clothing, but access to them is only possible by personal invitation.
Fashion Week
The capital of France, which is a trendsetter in world fashion, is part of the so-called “Big Four” along with New York, London and Milan. It is in Paris that the final fourth fashion week takes place, which traditionally ends the season. Ready-to-wear shows happen twice a year. For Parisians, and whatever, for all the fashionistas of France and many foreigners, this is a grandiose event, so the demonstration of literally every collection is a real show. In addition, in honor of fashion week, large parties are always held, which are attended by royalty, millionaires, and, of course, the heroes of the occasion themselves - famous fashion designers. The fall-winter collection is demonstrated around the end of February - beginning of March; and the spring-summer collections - at the end of June - at the beginning of July. The venue for Fashion Week is the exhibition hall of the Carrousel de Louvre shopping center.
Business season
Business tourism accounts for about 55% of the total tourist flow to the city. The high season within the year is the period from September to the end of May. During this period of time, the capital hosts almost 300 congresses and 400 international exhibitions. In terms of the week, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday are considered the busiest days, when hotels are at their highest occupancy.
It's time for holidays and festivals
You can find out about national holidays in France here. This section will discuss only the largest events that take place annually in the capital. From December 1st to December 31st, Notre Dame Cathedral hosts a spectacular light and sound show every half hour, visually illustrating the story of Christmas. Around November 23, the Christmas fair opens in the Défense district, and the fair on the Champs-Élysées begins almost simultaneously with it. On December 25, Parisians gather with their families to celebrate Catholic Christmas, and spend New Year's Eve in the company of friends - in some bar or restaurant. In February, another large-scale event takes place on the streets of Paris - a colorful carnival called “Walk of the Fatted Bull”, the main characters of which are the cow Pimprinel and the clown Pete. A mandatory attribute of each guest's costume is cow horns. This is also the time of another carnival, Carnaval de Paris, and an exhibition of retro cars, Retromobile. In March, the Irish community celebrates St. Patrick's Day: at this time beer and wine are consumed in unlimited quantities. In the first month of spring, the city's cultural life is enriched by the Paris Film Festival, an art fair, a poetry festival and cultural events in honor of Paris Commune Day, which falls on March 18. April is notable for the Culinary Festival, the short film festival "Shorts", the Paris Marathon, as well as a series of music concerts "Banlieue Bleues", where only blues sounds. In May, tourists may be interested in the following events: Horse racing, a ceremonial parade on the Champs Elysees in honor of Victory Day over Fascism, taking place on May 8, as well as the Night of Museums - several hours when some museums and exhibition complexes can be visited absolutely free. In June, fans of the aristocratic game of golf will truly enjoy the Alston French Open tournament, held on the outskirts of Paris. The first month of summer is also marked by the open tennis championship, the Rose Festival and the Paris Pride Parade. The main event of July is Bastille Day, which falls on July 14th. It is celebrated with a magnificent parade on the Champs Elysees and a series of balls in city parks. In addition, the Paris Roller Skating Show and the Paris Quarter d'Et arts festival are notable. In August, costume balls are held in Versailles. Autumn is a series of cultural events. The third weekend of September is National Heritage Days. Something like the May Night of Museums, only stretched over two whole days. October is the time of the grape harvest, which is why mass celebrations are held in Montmartre. The first Saturday in October is dedicated to visiting museums and galleries as part of the White Nights program. There are several food festivals celebrating chocolate this month.
Holiday season at Disneyland
Disneyland, which operates year-round, welcomes its guests throughout the whole year, with the only difference that in the summer (from the end of June) the amusement park operates daily until 23.00, and the rest of the time - until 19.00 on weekdays and until 22.00 on weekends . In winter, prices are slightly lower, but only “closed” attractions are available. It is best to go to Disneyland before or after the May holidays, in the first days of June or early September. There will still be lines, so make sure to buy your tickets in advance. This can be done on the company’s official website, while choosing French as the main language, their cost will be slightly less.
Climate in Paris
Paris is influenced by a temperate climate, characterized by warm winters with little snow and cool, humid summers. Precipitation is equally characteristic of each season. A striking feature of the capital's weather conditions is sudden downpours.
Paris in spring
Paris has its own charm at every time of year, but in spring it is especially beautiful. And few people want to argue with this. March weather is still unstable, so it tends to present surprises - both in the form of unexpected thaws and in the form of severe frosts. However, in general, in the first spring month there is a slight warming: the average daily air temperature ranges from +12 °C to +13 °C, with a cooling at night to approximately +3 °C..+4 °C. It rains quite often, but at the same time the number of sunny hours increases, so after another stormy day the city dries out quite quickly. In the middle of the season, the weather brings more warm days: the average daily air temperature hovers around +16 °C, the evenings are still cold, so adopt the Parisian habit of dressing in layers if you plan to be away from the hotel for a long time. In April, Paris literally blooms - the wonderful aromas of flowers and fresh greenery are in the air. Even precipitation is unable to spoil the high spirits that cover almost everyone who comes to the capital at this time. Although May is not, as we would like, marked by a reduction in the number of rainy days, this month is one of the best of the year. The daylight hours are increasing significantly, so it gets dark quite late, and the bright sun shines at about 7 o'clock. During the day, many townspeople and tourists go to parks, where they have picnics or simply lie around for fun, sunbathing.

Paris in summer
Summer Paris is a noisy, hectic city, a real flood of foreigners. And all because in the summer in the French capital, unlike the Italian or Spanish, the weather is very warm, but most importantly, not hot, characterized by refreshing westerly winds. Therefore, sightseeing can only be hampered by a huge crowd of people. The average daily temperature in June is about +22 °C, July and August are the “hottest” months of the year, when the thermometer reaches +25 °C, less often +26 °C. Although some days can be unusually cold - from +16 °C to +18 °C. In the evening, the air cools down quite quickly; this is definitely worth taking into account when packing your suitcase for a summer vacation in the city. As for precipitation, its volume in this season increases slightly compared to spring indicators. Rain is periodically accompanied by thunderstorms. If you don’t want to take an umbrella with you, set aside an additional amount of money to purchase it immediately upon arrival, since you will definitely have to use it at least a couple of times during your entire stay.

Paris in autumn
The beginning of autumn promises pleasant warm weather. The daily thermometer readings, of course, are no longer as high as in the summer, but in the first half of the month it is still too early to change your outfits to more “serious” ones. In general, September experiences an improved version of May weather. This also applies to nights, which this month are only a couple of degrees colder than summer. In recent days, the weather begins to gradually deteriorate, but not in terms of precipitation, which, in principle, is evenly distributed almost throughout the year, but in temperature conditions. There is, although not a critical, but still noticeable cooling - in the mornings there is a slight frost, and closer to noon the thermometer freezes at +15 °C. In mid-autumn, the foliage begins to gradually turn yellow, acquiring all shades of gold and crimson, and by the beginning of November the city is already “drowning” in it. But the situation is saved by hardworking street cleaners who meticulously sweep the capital’s streets every morning. The last month is quite damp and dank: the maximum air temperature is about +10 °C, and the minimum is around +4 °C.
If you're dreaming about Paris, the obsession with visiting the city of love may take hold of you before you have time to get to know it properly. Jokes aside, but if a strict boss has signed a long-awaited vacation, don’t miss the chance and start collecting documents for a French visa to fly to the capital of fashion, love and romance! Don’t you really want to excitedly talk about how from the very top of the Eiffel Tower Paris looks like a huge cake divided by streets into segments, that from one metro station you can see another through a tunnel, or that the most delicious Mont Blanc cake is sold only in a pastry shop? "Angelina"?
When is it better to go to Paris - hot summer or chilly winter? The best thing to do would be to plan your route wisely and go on an independent trip - it will be cheaper. Local sightseeing buses take you to the must-see attractions. You will be surprised at the skill of drivers who inexplicably “catch” microns in order to squeeze a hulking bus between tight walls or to fit its thick side as safely as possible into the bend of a narrow Parisian roadway, managing not to hit either the ubiquitous motorcyclists, or the small “Smart”, or a thin, ungainly pedestrian.
Climate
When thinking about Paris, rarely do the peculiarities of the local climate come to mind. Meanwhile, when planning a trip, it is important to know in which month it is not only more profitable to come, but also what kind of weather the city will give to a travel lover in a given season. The local climate is temperate and fairly mild, winters are damp and warm, temperatures rarely drop below zero, and snow falls infrequently. And summer in Paris is a hot season not only for tourists, but also in terms of weather - August temperatures can rise above 35°C.
Spring, spring, time for love!
Paris in April and May is already warmed by the sun, the weather is warm, not hot, the city is clean and fresh after awakening from winter, and stands as if washed with dew. At this time in Paris, it is best to walk around the city holding hands, especially in parks and gardens. Street cafes are slowly waking up after winter hibernation. Many people want to witness the awakening of the city, therefore, at this time, crowds of tourists are possible here both on the streets and in queues to view Parisian attractions. However, the weather is more comfortable at this time, and those who, having gone on an independent trip, want to walk and ride a river bus, should come here in the spring.
Summer, oh summer...!
The hottest season will do a disservice to all museum visitors due to stuffiness and a huge number of people; it will be especially difficult for children and the elderly. Local residents prefer to leave the city in summer and go on vacation. The summer months in Paris are characterized by outdoor events and festivals, and you can be a part of them! For example, on July 14, the French celebrate Bastille Day. Don't forget that summer flights can cost a fortune due to higher high season fares, so book them in advance. The huge influx of tourists causes long queues at museums, so it is preferable to leave the cultural program until the onset of the off-season or winter. If on a summer day Paris sometimes resembles hellish heat, when it is both humid and stuffy, then evening and night walks along the boulevards and streets of the city, the Ile de la Cité and past the wonderful fountains will bring true pleasure. Or early morning coffee on the embankment - beauty and romance!
Autumn kiss
From the end of August to October is the same optimal time in terms of weather as spring; the beginning of autumn in Paris is a fairy tale! Yellowing foliage frames the city like the golden curls of the face of a fairy-tale princess. In autumn, the influx of tourists decreases, hotel prices drop, and airfare also becomes lower, so coming to Paris in the fall is cheaper than in the summer. October and November can bring rain, and there is not much pleasure in walking, but you will truly enjoy visiting museums, because at this time there are few tourists and there are practically no queues! In any weather, you can sit in one of the closed restaurants or cafes and, absentmindedly sipping coffee or enjoying a hearty lunch, admire the views from the window.
If you come in November, then keep in mind that a walk along the river and in an open excursion bus, or a visit to the Eiffel Tower can turn into medieval torture - the wind and cold penetrate to the bones.
The advantages of this time of year are that there are no crowds of tourists on the streets and sales, sales, sales!
Winter dream at Christmas
Winter Paris is a heavenly time for a calm and leisurely visit to all the city's museums and indoor attractions. The streets are spacious, the picturesque bas-reliefs of buildings caress your eyes. Hurry up to go to the city before the end of January, and then the sales season will begin, and there is a high risk of being knocked off your feet by crowds of shopaholic tourists from all over the world!
On New Year's Day there are many foreigners here, but few native Parisians. You can come here at Christmas; from the beginning of December the whole city is decorated with illuminations, Christmas trees, and fun fairs will give you treats, toys, souvenirs, and fun, especially the largest one, which is held on the Champs-Elysees. In December, Notre Dame Cathedral hosts a light show telling the story of Christmas. It should be remembered that on holidays the main attractions are off, with the exception of the Eiffel Tower and Notre Dame Cathedral.
The conclusion is obvious
One thing suggests itself - no matter what time of year you decide to travel, Paris will never be gray and boring. It's chilly - yes, but dress warmly and comfortably! Rain in Paris is another of its charms; just as it is difficult to guess with a gift for a fickle madam, it is just as difficult to guess with the Parisian weather, but at every time of the year the city is good and convenient in its own way. For those on a budget, consider traveling in early spring, late fall, and winter. This is when airlines offer the biggest discounts on tickets, hotel prices are lower than usual, and there are virtually no lines at popular museums. If you are planning long walks and weather conditions are more important to you, come to the French capital in April, May, August and September. It is worth remembering one thing - if you are in the mood and have great company, any season in Paris will seem fabulous, and the trip will be remembered for a lifetime!
