New World Crimea attractions: hotels and beaches. New World: sights and interesting places (with photos) What's interesting in the New World
Novy Svet is an urban-type settlement on the southeastern tip of Crimea near Sudak. The nature here is so textured that it has more than once served as a natural backdrop for Soviet films. Around the village, surrounded by picturesque bays and grottoes, relict pine and juniper trees grow.
No less popular is the New World for the sparkling wine produced here. Prince Lev Golitsyn established the production of champagne at the end of the 19th century. Obsessed with the idea of changing Russian drinking culture, the idealistic aristocrat spent a fortune organizing the sale of excellent wine and champagne at lower prices than vodka. The idea was noble, but rather hopeless. Drinkers soon realized that they could achieve amazing effects by mixing champagne with vodka. The resulting killer cocktail became known as the Northern Lights. Emperor Nicholas II saved the prince from bankruptcy by granting him the position of chief winemaker of the country and placing the wine factory in Massandra under his guardianship.
The village has many miraculous monuments and natural attractions.
Cape Kapchik
How to get there: GPS coordinates for the navigator: Latitude: 44°49′00″ / Longitude: 34°54′32″
Stretching several hundred meters into the sea, an amazing tectonic formation - an ancient coral reef - serves as a natural one. The shape of the cape resembles a huge lizard.
In the middle part of Kapchik there is a through grotto, 20 meters high and 80 meters long. According to legend, corsairs hid treasures here. From the side of the bays, man-made stone stairs lead to the cave. And the romantic Lev Galitsyn hosted banquets here. Already in the 20th century, speleologists discovered a salt lake and seven caves in the depths of Kapchik.
From the top of the cape, located in the sea, a picturesque panorama of two bays - Sinaya and Golubaya, as well as the coastal mountains - Karaul-Oba, Koba-Kai and Ayu-Daga opens up. The water here is so clean that in clear weather, when the water surface is calm, the seabed is visible. Visiting Cape Kapchik is as exciting as visiting a fairy tale.
Golitsyn's Grotto
The grotto is located at the very beginning of the Golitsyn Trail route. When going on a trip, it is advisable to wear sports shoes and take a camera with you.
The history of the Grotto is long. Already in cave times people used it. In the Middle Ages there was an Orthodox church here, and Lev Golitsyn adapted the grotto into a wine warehouse and concert hall. The prince’s friends often gathered here and enjoyed tasting excellent wine.
There are conflicting rumors that Chaliapin himself once performed in the cave and allegedly broke a glass of champagne with the power of his voice. Whether the famous singer was here or not can no longer be established for sure. One thing is clear: the acoustics here are excellent. The cave is often called Chaliapin's grotto.
Today, opera concerts are sometimes held here. Then the cave is illuminated with wax candles, and the sounds of music, breaking on the surface of the rocks, produce an incomparable impression.
Golitsyn trail
By order of Prince Golitsyn, in 1912, a road with stone stairs and railings was cut into the Koba-Kaya rock. The trail begins at the southwestern edge of Green Bay. There are several viewing platforms along the trail. The route ends with Cape Kapchik at the Blue Bay. Along the entire journey, tourists can admire the most beautiful corners of the New World.
Almost at the beginning of the trail is the Golitsyn grotto. Here the emperor tasted the famous champagne. Delighted by what he saw and tried, he exclaimed with delight: “I see life in a new light!” The sovereign's words became a call to action. The prince renamed his estate from Paradise (paradise) to New World.
The total length of the route is 5470 meters. In different places, the height above sea level ranges from 30 to 50 meters. There are excursions here every day. The trail is part of a nature reserve, so visiting it requires a fee.
Blue Bay - Royal Beach
At the foot of Mount Karaul-Oba is the Blue Bay. The water in it is truly heavenly in color, thanks to the algae blooming in it. The bay is famous for its beach, which is called Tsarsky in honor of the last emperor of Russia.
As the story goes, at the invitation of Prince Lev Golitsyn, Nicholas II and his family stayed here in the summer of 1912. The monarch liked the beach so much that he came here every day.
Nowadays, the beach area is considered a protected area and entry to it is strictly prohibited.
How to get there: You can only look at the places where the sovereign rested from a pleasure boat or yacht. You can swim in the bay by diving from the deck; access to the beach from the water is not allowed.
Mount Falcon
How to get there: GPS coordinates for the navigator: Latitude: 44°50′14″ / Longitude: 34°55′36″
The rock massif located between the New World and Sudak is called Sokol. Its height is 477 meters. From a scientific point of view, it is not really a mountain. This is the largest fossil reef of the Crimean peninsula and Europe. It is difficult to imagine how many thousands of years ago a coral reef rose from the receding sea, turning into a mountain.
Sokol was loved by mountaineering athletes, who laid here many climbing routes of varying difficulty - from 1st to 6th category. Amateur climbers should refrain from climbing the mountain. Climbing to the top is quite easy, but descending is much more difficult.
On the mountain, archaeologists found many interesting historical monuments dating back to both Antiquity and the Byzantine period. In the surrounding area there are about 10 species of birds of prey - eagles, falcons, kites, hawks, owls and other birds of prey, so in Tatar the name sounds like Kush-Kaya(“Bird Mountain”).
Of the historical and cultural monuments in the New World, the princely palaces have been preserved. One of them functions as a museum, the second is notable for its eclectic architecture in the Berber-Spanish style. His image is depicted on the coat of arms of the locality. A trip to the New World will be remembered as a pleasant pastime and will leave vivid memories.
The Golitsyn Trail, the famous Champagne Wine Factory, bays, beaches, grottoes - these are all the attractions of the New World, a resort village on the eastern coast of Crimea. From here it is very convenient to take walks or bike rides around the surrounding area, getting a lot of positive impressions and incomparable health benefits.
Golitsyn Trail, New World, Crimea
It starts on the shore of Green Bay and leads to a huge natural grotto - one of the so-called wonders of the New World. The length of the trail is almost 5.5 km, it passes near the most beautiful corners, such as the botanical reserve, Chaliapin’s grotto (former Golitsyn wine library), Green, Blue and Blue bays, Tsarsky Beach, a 77-meter-long through grotto, and a juniper grove. When going for a walk along the Golitsyn Trail, don’t forget comfortable shoes (preferably special ones or at least walking sneakers.
Nature Reserve New World, Crimea
This botanical reserve was created in 1974 with the aim of preserving the unique vegetation of the area. Relict tree-like junipers and relict pines (Stankevich or Sudak pine) grow here.
Several endemic species are also protected in the reserve. There are two ecological trails here - the Golitsyn trail and the second, starting at the western part of the New World and passing through the Karaul-Oba mountains, a staircase in the rock (probably carved by Taurians), on the way there are also two cave dwellings and tracts - “Hell”, “Paradise” ", "Adam's Bed". At the very top of the mountain, Golitsyn's Chair was carved out.
Champagne wine factory, New World, Crimea
It was founded by Prince Golitsyn. In 1978, in honor of the centenary of the House of Champagne Wines, the Museum of the History of the Factory was organized in the house of Lev Golitsyn, the father of Russian champagne winemaking.
Contemporaries preserved the house-museum in its original form. He can tell about the extraordinary personality of the prince and about the most important business of his life - the production of champagne. In addition to several halls and rooms, furnished and equipped with interior items belonging to Golitsyn himself, you will visit the basement under the house, where barrels of wine and bottles of the best drinks were stored, which even Nicholas II himself tried in his time. In the tasting room you will taste wine by candlelight - just like in the time of Lev Golitsyn.
Beaches of the New World, Crimea
Tsarsky Beach, where, according to legend, Nicholas II rested during boat trips, is closed to the public today. But there are still a lot of interesting and stunningly beautiful beaches in the New World.
Green Bay of Crimea is one of the three Bays of the New World. This is where the main beach of the village and the beautiful embankment are located. The beach is open to the public and entry is absolutely free. The bay is located in a botanical reserve; the water here is always crystal clear and there is no wind or waves (the beach is protected on both sides by high rocky mountains). The surface is sand and pebbles, it’s a bit painful to walk without shoes. Both the beach and the embankment are perfectly landscaped, there are plenty of cafes and shops.
Pirate (Robber) beach is located in Blue Bay. Once upon a time, back in the 12th and 13th centuries, it was an ambush site for pirates and smugglers. The beach itself is narrow and not particularly convenient, since it is covered with medium-sized boulders, and at the bottom there are stones overgrown with algae. It was here that the films “Amphibian Man”, “Pirates of the 20th Century”, “Three + Two” were filmed.
Tsar's Bay or simply Tsar's Beach is today one of the favorite places in the New World. This is one of the most beautiful places in the mountainous Sudak. Blue Bay received this name because back in 1912, it was on this seashore that the Russian emperor rested.
Novy Svet is an ideal place for a holiday, both with family and alone. The history of the New World house-museum in Sudak is approaching a century and a half. The museum itself was founded in the centenary year of the Golitsyn plant and is located on the prince’s huge secular estate, not far from the village of Novy Svet, which gave its name to the plant itself and, subsequently, to the museum. The house has survived to this day in its unchanged form, only being slightly adapted for museum display.
Not far from the city of Sudak, between the villages of Novy Svet and Seseloye, there is an amazing structure - the Taurus Staircase. By the most conservative standards, it is about three thousand years old. The Taurians are ancient tribes that inhabited the Crimean gorges, cruel robbers who built entire cave cities with their own infrastructure, among which is preserved to this day...
Rumor has it that at the bottom of the sea lie untold riches hidden by pirates in the 12th century. Smugglers and adventurers were hiding from justice in this bay. Here the robbers waited for their victims - trade caravans traveling by sea. The terrain made it possible to keep traders in the dark about the pirate plans until the last moment...
Emperor Nicholas II, at the invitation of Prince Golitsyn, rested in the Crimean Blue Bay. Subsequently, the coast of the bay became known as Tsarskoe Beach. The coast is unique and picturesque; it has been a botanical reserve since the early 70s. You can see relict pine trees, tree-like juniper and other types of unusual vegetation of the Mediterranean. The nudist beach is located in the New World bay, the northern part of the resort village. You need to walk along the shore of the New World Bay or go down the road through difficult, rugged mountainous terrain. The landmark is the northern part of the bay. A small wild beach, in a cozy bay protected from the waves. The covering is pebbles and boulders.
The Paradise estate (now Novy Svet) was purchased by Prince Golitsyn in 1878 from Prince Kherkheulidzev. The New World received its name after Tsar Nicholas II visited the estate in 1912. In this village, in the vicinity of Sudak, the Palace of Prince Golitsyn is majestically located.

The coast of the Crimean peninsula is indented by numerous capes and bays. Many of them have bizarre shapes and resemble various animals, reptiles, birds, insects and other fauna. On the eastern coast of Crimea lives an ancient fossilized lizard that drinks water from the waters of the Black Sea. Cape Kapchik has this shape.
On the eastern coast of Crimea there is an inconspicuous cave called “Chaliapin’s Grotto”. She was given this name after a performance by a great classical music performer in a cave. For a concert to take place here, a lot of time had passed since its opening by Prince Golitsyn, who loved to walk around the surrounding places and discover something new. For the prince himself, this place was the best repository for ripening wines.

Sights of the New World and surrounding areas 2019
There are two places that you can’t help but visit when visiting the New World, because these are its calling cards.
- The Golitsyn trail is located on the slope of Mount Koba-Kaya, cut down by Turkish workers at the beginning of the 20th century specifically for the arrival of Emperor Nicholas II in Crimea. This road, about 3 km long, starts from the shore of the Green Lagoon at the foot of Mount Eagle, then runs over the Blue Bay, or as it is also called Razboinichya, in which, according to legend, pirates hid, and ends at Cape Kapchik, where it turns into the Juniper Grove. Along the route along the Golitsyn trail, there are several observation platforms that offer stunning views of the bays and the village itself.
- Golitsyn's Grotto, also known as Chaliapin's Grotto, is a very mysterious, atmospheric place. Not so long ago, inscriptions from the Middle Ages were visible on its walls, but in the 20th century, Prince Golitsyn equipped this small cave for storing wine. Having passed through the semicircular arch at the far wall, you can find yourself in a tunnel that led straight to the cellars of the champagne wine factory. The grotto received its other name thanks to the arrival of the famous singer Fyodor Chaliapin to the New World. Knowing the excellent acoustics of the grotto, the owner asked Chaliapin to give a small concert in the grotto, and when the maestro began to sing, the sound of his voice cracked the glass. Even today, concerts are sometimes held in the grotto.
- Probably the largest number of photographs of the New World were taken in a juniper grove, and it is not surprising, because here every tree is a masterpiece! A relict juniper grove located in a botanical reserve is the pride of the village. The magnificent aroma of these trees, mixed with the sea breeze, is very beneficial for health, it gives a healing effect, helping people suffering from bronchitis and lung diseases. And of course, juniper growing against the backdrop of a dazzlingly beautiful sea coast creates an incredible landscape for your photos!

Local winemaker Prince Golitsyn equipped the entrance to it, installed doors, and arranged stairs for convenient descent to the water.
The entrance to the cave is blocked by a forged lattice. Visitors can only view the grotto from the outside because it is life-threatening for people inside. The long passage is inhabited by a huge colony of bats, and collapses occur in the cave. Speleologists claim that inside this amazing cape there are seven more caves and a salt lake.
