Thank you for your support and efficiency!
And a little humor - it was 22 C outside during the hurricane, the Dominicans took out hats and down jackets :)

Russian tourists in the Dominican Republic do not know when they will be able to return home, since flights are postponed due to Hurricane Irma, and there is not enough information, Lidiya Pavlovich, who is on vacation in the Panta Cana area in the southeast of the Dominican Republic, told RIA Novosti on Thursday republics. Meanwhile, representatives of the tour operator assure that they are in touch with all tourists and provide them with support.
Hurricane Irma has already reached the fifth, maximum category, it is called the most powerful hurricane in the Atlantic for at least the last decade. The hurricane is expected to affect the Dominican Republic, Cuba and the US state of Florida.
There will be no departure
“There are about 200 tourists in our hotel for sure. There are about 20 people from Russia on our plane. In total, 200 people flew with us from St. Petersburg, but everyone was settled in different hotels. Our departure, in theory, is on September 8. Will it be postponed - unknown. It is known for sure that those who are supposed to fly on September 7 will not fly - flights were canceled, tourists were left at the hotel... There is a threat of non-flight. It is not clear what to do. Considering that charters fly to St. Petersburg only once a week. We will look at situation,” Pavlovich said over the phone.
According to the tourist, the hotel staff behave as correctly as possible. Russians forced to stay are not evicted, and no additional payment is required from them.
“The tour operator is another matter. So far they have not shown themselves in any way, except that they provided emergency phone numbers in case of anything,” complained the agency’s interlocutor.
However, according to Pavlovich, representatives of the tour operator ANEX Tour suggested that in case of an urgent flight, pack your bags and be ready to move to hotels closer to the airport, which is located 45 kilometers from this place.
“But this is unofficial information, they don’t offer anything yet,” added the agency’s interlocutor.
According to the Association of Tour Operators of Russia, due to weather conditions, by decision of the authorities, Punta Cana International Airport will be temporarily closed on September 7, the resumption of flights is expected on September 8.
As RIA Novosti was told by the press service of the tour operator ANEX Tour, tourists whose return flight is scheduled for this date will remain in hotels and will await further instructions from the host company. ANEX Tour employees are in touch with guests around the clock and provide all the necessary assistance and information support, company representatives noted.
Coconuts and windows
Hotel staff began warning three days in advance of the hurricane's approach, Pavlovich says. The Russians were given information materials in Russian describing the threat and a list of safety recommendations. According to the document, the hurricane was expected to weaken by Thursday morning. It also described what measures the hotel was taking and how its services would work.
For example, the bathroom is recommended as the safest place. The hotel promised to deliver breakfast to the room if the buffet was unable to work, and to provide additional water and milk for families with children. Access to the beach was closed from 15.00 local time, and the sale of alcohol was stopped from 21.00.
“All open glass buildings such as lobby bars were boarded up, food and milk were delivered to the children’s rooms in advance, matches, candles. At the same time, they tried not to cause panic and remained calm. They banned entry to the sea and swimming pools almost 24 hours in advance. All the documents also advised and hide the money in waterproof envelopes in advance. And the hotel staff cut off all the coconuts in advance, so that, apparently, tourists wouldn’t get caught,” Pavlovich described the preparations for the disaster.
However, during a hurricane, tourists lack information; basically, they are forced to learn all the news about what is happening from CNN reports, she says.
“And it’s good that at least there is electricity,” the Russian woman added.
Earlier, the press secretary of the Russian Union of Tourism Industry (RST), Irina Tyurina, told RIA Novosti that there were very few Russian tourists in the area of Hurricane Irma. She found it difficult to estimate how many people could be there. The Association of Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR), with reference to the tourist offices of a number of Caribbean countries, reported that the situation in tourist areas is under control and all emergency services have been put on full alert.
Rain and wind
“Currently it’s half past three in the morning, there’s been heavy rain with gusts of wind for about five hours now, but everything doesn’t look as bad as expected. The rain and the wind are gusty - sometimes it’s blowing heavily, sometimes it subsides. It’s likely that things are getting worse on the coast, but our corps stands a little to the side, which saves us,” Pavlovich said about what was happening in Punta Cana.
According to her, nothing was flooded in the hotel, no palm trees were knocked down on the street, there was a connection. But the real consequences can only be seen in the morning, if you can leave the room.
“By the way, at the moment the rain has almost stopped, but perhaps for a while,” the Russian woman said at the end of the conversation.
A lot has been written about the fact that there are dangers in any country, and not only you are interested in this issue. Much depends on how your vacation goes, not on certain circumstances, but on you and your foresight.
In the Dominican Republic, you can catch some kind of infection that is transmitted through the most common household means, not to mention all kinds of insects. In order for nothing to happen to your health, you need to follow basic rules of personal hygiene, wash your hands, it is better to eat vegetables and fruits without peeling or wash them well with boiled water, and in some cases, heat them. No matter how popular this resort was, cases of cholera and other infectious diseases are common here. If you have doubts about a product or establishment, it is better to refuse, as the consequences can be unpredictable.
When you buy a vacation package or search for information about a hotel or resort, you will most likely come across beautiful photos, with clean beaches and crystal clear water, but it's as simple as that. For the Dominican Republic, such a phenomenon as typhoons is quite normal and they are not so rare. It all depends on the time of year. To avoid such troubles, it is best to come to the Dominican Republic from December to April. At this time, typhoons are very rare. And don’t be lazy to study the weather forecast before your trip.
You should not communicate closely with local residents, try to keep your distance from them, especially considering the fact that part of the local population still believes and practices the Voodoo religion. Nobody knows how such communication may end.
As practice shows, tourists are most interested in such a danger as sharks. It's no secret that sharks are in the Dominican Republic and are periodically seen close to the shore. Previously, local residents fed these fish, but now, in search of food, they attack not only people, but also boats and yachts. Don’t worry, this behavior of sharks is not systematic, but rather periodic, but still, before you get into the water, ask the hotel staff where it’s best for you to swim.
Diving enthusiasts should also be careful, as there are indeed shipwrecks off the coast of the Dominican Republic that attract many scuba diving enthusiasts. But all places are equally safe; there are those that are serious not only for health, but also for life. It is best to dive with an experienced instructor.
There is also fraud in the Dominican Republic, where would we be without it. Some species are developed simply perfectly. As a tourist, you will hardly be able to tell the difference between a real policeman and a scammer. Tourists who rent vehicles can become victims of pedestrians who throw themselves under the wheels, and while you are wondering why, yours will be robbed to zero. If strangers make you any lucrative offer, then you should refuse it, since it is most likely a scam.
I immediately advise you to abandon the idea of paying with credit (bank) cards. The Dominican Republic is not a country where such operations take place as quickly as possible and do not raise any doubts. Financial fraud in this area is normal in the Dominican Republic. Only upon arriving home, you may discover that a certain amount of money has disappeared from your card, and you are unlikely to understand how and where this happened. And it is useless to go anywhere. It's best to pay in cash.
This is not final, but only an approximate list of the troubles that can happen to you in the Dominican Republic, but in general the country is very pleasant, peaceful and comfortable for relaxation.
It has already passed the Dominican Republic and is approaching Cuba and Florida. We collected reports from Russian-speaking tourists about the situation at the resorts.
Vacationing in the Dominican Republic, Yulia writes that on September 7, the Dominican Republic found itself behind Hurricane Irma and was almost undamaged. Coming closer, Hurricane Irma changed its direction and hit the islands only with strong winds and rain: “Only a few fallen trees and rain remained...”
“In Punta Cana, the coast was in the zone of a tropical storm,” tourists from the Dominican Republic write. “At night there was heavy rain and wind, some trees fell. They didn’t even turn off the electricity! Tourists remained in their hotels, there were no casualties, only complaints that this "No alcohol was poured at night."
The airport in Punta Cana has already started operating as usual.
“Now it is raining as a consequence of the passing storm, but by September 8-9 the weather should be completely restored,” tourists from the Dominican Republic report. Following Irma is a small hurricane, Jose, which does not pose any danger to the Dominican Republic.

There are videos and photos on the Internet of the consequences of Hurricane Irma in the Dominican Republic - for example, in the north - in the Puerto Plata area. They show destroyed houses and flooded streets.
Let us add that tourists in the Dominican Republic and Cuba were warned of the approach of Hurricane Irma several days in advance. Hotel windows were boarded up with plywood, sun loungers were removed, and everything that could be blown away by the wind.
“There was no evacuation of tourists, except for the evacuation of people from the first floors,” people report on social networks.
Florida is also expecting the impact of Hurricane Irma. And there are many Russians there too. They blog that they are trying to leave the state, but are afraid of looters. They say that in the first days after the hurricane, houses and apartments may be robbed because services are inactive.
“They packed all the most valuable things. They closed all the windows, covered them with sofas. They took all the equipment to a safe place. They hid all the knives so that God forbid they wouldn’t fly down the street,” says Miami resident Katerina about the approach of the hurricane. “They wrote from a neighboring house, that the police were walking around the apartments and forcing us to leave. We didn’t wait and were already rushing along the highway. Today I heard a lot of terrible stories, for example, people in FPL suits (the service that deals with electricity) are walking around houses, entering the house under the pretext of checking before a hurricane, and then they rob apartments using weapons. Well, we're on our way. It's one o'clock in the morning, there's traffic jams on the highway. We stopped at two gas stations - there's no gas... As I already said, gas is really hard to find now and it costs twice as much." .
In Florida, many buildings are built to withstand hurricane-force winds, as the region is often hit by storms from the Atlantic. Evacuations are being carried out in Miami due to the risk of flooding on the first floors. Many residents decide to stay because there are "white zones" that will be least affected by Hurricane Irma.

Moreover, it is now very difficult to get out of Florida - the roads are clogged with cars, there are no available hotels. It is reported that there is a rush at the airport - it is impossible to fly, people are in panic and everyone is on edge.
Note that Hurricane Irma was assigned the fifth, most dangerous category. The storm is now moving along the Caribbean islands and could reach the state's coast by the weekend. According to meteorologists, the wind speed at the center of the hurricane reaches 78 m/s.
