Haad Rin Nok Beach or Full Moon Party Beach is a piece of paradise available to everyone. Haad Rin Beach, Koh Phangan. Aka Full Moon Party Beach - a serene and party-oriented, stunningly beautiful beach
The name of Haad Rin Nai beach on the Thai island of Koh Phangan literally translates into Russian as “sunset beach.” It is quieter and calmer than the island's popular party spots, and the cost of living in hotels and bungalows here is slightly lower than the island average.
Haad Rin Nai Beach on Koh Phangan
Haad Rin Nai Beach on Koh Phangan is more suitable for families with small children, since it is very shallow near the shore and you will have to walk to the depths. At the same time, such conditions will be ideal and safe for children. This Thai beach is divided into two parts by a small rock formation, at the foot of which it will be interesting to swim with a mask and fins, watching the life of marine life and admiring the coral reef located along the perimeter of Koh Phangan. From both parts of Haad Rin Nai beach on Koh Phangan you can watch wonderful sunsets in the evenings, and it is especially pleasant to do this from the terraces of restaurants or from the verandas of cozy bungalows. This beach will appeal to lovers of secluded relaxation, as there are quite a few secluded places. If you suddenly want to diversify your holiday by visiting more crowded beaches, then the lively beaches of Bang Son and Hin Lor are located nearby. You can also have fun by heading to a small coastal town on the isthmus that separates Haad Rin Nai and Haad Rin Nok beaches. There are a variety of shops and souvenir shops for tourists, fashion boutiques, beauty salons and hairdressers, as well as restaurants, bars, ATMs and many hotels and resorts. In the evenings, this town becomes even more crowded and noisy, attracting partygoers from all over the island to its bars.
Restaurants at Haad Rin Nai Beach on Koh Phangan
In the town of Haad Rin, not far from Haad Rin Nai Beach, tourists will see many ethnic restaurants offering dishes from almost all the popular cuisines of the world. Here you can eat in different restaurants every day, trying dishes from different countries - Greek, Mexican, Italian, Japanese, Vietnamese, Russian, Indian, Thai and many others. However, you need to be prepared for the fact that this area of Koh Phangan is the most popular among tourists, which is why prices in restaurants here are much higher than on less crowded beaches.
Tourists can taste the best sushi on Koh Phangan at the Emotion of Sushi sushi bar, which is also famous for its unique atmosphere and cozy lounge area. The freshest and most flavorful Italian pizzas can be tasted at Al Colosseo, located at the end of Haad Rin's main street. For grilled seafood, you should check out Yellow Light, located right on the shore. Those who cannot imagine the morning without a fresh croissant with a cup of coffee should go to Nira Bakery, which has been delighting visitors with fresh pastries for more than fifteen years. Exotic lovers should enjoy the North African restaurant Marrakech, where dishes from different types of meat predominate.

Haad Rin Beach on Koh Phangan island or Full Moon Party beach named after the beach party that takes place on this beach every month during the full moon and attracts tens of thousands of people from all over the world. In this article I talk about whether it is worth planning holiday on Koh Phangan island on Haad Rin beach what is this all about beach full moon party and what to do in its surroundings.
Like most of my articles, the story is about Full Moon Party beach designed for those who come to Thailand to relax for one to two weeks and wants to see the best of the best in a short period of vacation. We always carefully prepare for the trip and tried to see on Phangan Most of the most beautiful beaches, we walked around dozens of observation platforms, walked along walking tracks, and also studied the infrastructure of the island. "White spots" on Phangan, of course, we stayed, so we are going to come here again.
General impressions about holiday on the island of Koh Phangan I have already shared and now I'll stop at the most popular beach on the island – Haad Rin Nok (Sunrise Beach), especially since we spent most of the time in its vicinity, making radial forays around the surrounding area.
To begin with, I’ll tell you for the uninitiated what it has to do with it Full Moon Party or Full Moon Party? Despite the fact that it was thanks to this party that the island of Koh Phangan became widely known. So broad that many, including us a couple of years ago, perceived Koh Phangan as a place of endless get-togethers and parties. This is partly true. On Koh Phangan they are carried out except Full Moon Party more Half Moon Party as well as all sorts of parties by the pools, in the jungle, at waterfalls - just study the posters posted along the roads of the island to understand how the party part of the island lives.
In fact, if you don’t know about all these “parties”, then you are unlikely to pay attention to them, with the exception of once a month - the day of the Full Moon Party on Haad Rin Beach, which will be discussed. On other days, Koh Phangan an ordinary tourist island, except that it is one of the most beautiful in Thailand.
How to get to Haad Rin Beach
Most tourists arrive on Koh Phangan island on Thong Sala pier, which is also the main pier of the island. From next door Koh Samui You can arrive directly at the pier in the town of Haadrin where our beach is located. About how to get to Koh Phangan island from Bangkok I wrote a little in the article How much does a holiday in Thailand cost? . The most convenient way is the high-speed catamarans of the Lompraya company; you can view the routes and buy tickets online directly on the company’s website.
WITH Thong Sala Pier By songthaew we get to the beach in 15-20 minutes Had Rin Beach. Transfer price is fixed – 100 baht per person, although there will be attempts to charge 150 and even 200 baht per person - don’t give in, a hundred and not a single baht on top. Taxi drivers don’t really resist, there are many of them, there’s a lot of competition.
If you are staying in Haad Rin, and now we are talking about this village and its Full Moon Party beach, then from here, in addition to the tracks to the lighthouse and a walk to the nearest beaches, there is a rather interesting trek through the jungle to three remote but very beautiful beaches - Haad Yuan Beach, Haad Thian Beach, Haad Wai Beach
You can, of course, get to them by boats directly from the beach Haad Rin Nok, but walking was more interesting for us.
Track starts in the center Haad Rin village, near Jenny Hostel– it is on Google maps and Maps Me. The track is marked, although in some places it is not very carefully marked, be careful. We used the offline Maps Me program on a smartphone - this track is there. Set your destination - the first beach - Haad Yuan Beach and walk along the path. Travel time is approximately 1.5-2 hours.
About halfway along the route there will be a sign to the observation deck, slightly to the right of the route. Be sure to get up. Unfortunately, the dawn is not visible from there, but it is visible Haad Rin Nok beach and the beach you are heading to - Haad Yuan Beach. There is also a large stone on which it is convenient to have breakfast with a panoramic view of the island.
Haad Yuan Beach- the first of three beaches that can be reached along this track. It is located in a very picturesque bay. It is so beautiful there that if I come to Koh Phangan again, I will definitely spend one or two nights on this beach. The place is remote, there is no good road there, so prices are higher for everything, including the price of accommodation and drinks in the local bar. The bar itself is traditional for Koh Phangan, but with a very cool view of the bay. Located on the left when facing the sea, a wooden path with railings leads to the bar, similar to the one we saw in Haad Leela (see above).
From the same bar you can continue to the next beach - Haad Thian Beach, about another fifteen minutes along the trail. Haad Thian is an even wilder and more remote beach, beautiful only from above - the sand here is not coral, but crystalline, so it gets very hot. This beach has been chosen by various yoga schools and even hermits. In my opinion, the place is just to look and move on.
And then we have another miniature beach Haad Wai Beach– again, it’s only beautiful from afar, not very close up close, both the sand itself and the sea.
We return along the same route, through Haad Thian Beach To Haad Yuan Beach, then according to the same marked path “home” to Haad Rin, we look at the navigator. The road back is easier, there are fewer climbs and in general my legs are accustomed to the stress. But you can use a boat - the price for delivering bodies is 600 baht (would you mind with such prices), in general, we are used to the tracks, so we got there on foot and the tastier was the beer on the beach upon our return.
BeachAoYaoBeach
Definitely worth going to Ao Yao Beach, we never got there - we didn’t have enough time. The most convenient way to get to Haad Rin Nok is by bike, taxi or boat. Boats are the most expensive, but the location is worth it.
Distant beaches of Koh Phangan
Distant beaches Phangana, we called them that because they are located a little far from the Thongsala pier and the party town of Haad Rin. We did not limit ourselves to Haad Rin, but stay program on Koh Phangan there will be a separate post.
If you rented a bike (from 250 baht, but I recommend taking more expensive options for 350-500), then it’s worth going to the northern beaches Haad Khuat (Bottle Beach) and on Malibu beach V Chaloklum Bay. Worthy of attention in the west or rather northwest Haad Salad And Mae Haad Beach. From the latter there is a beautiful view of the small island of Koh Ma - a diving site. Nearby famous bar Amsterdam, famous for the persistent smell of “grass” and panoramic views of the island. A separate report will be devoted to them.
These beaches can be accessed from Haad Rin and by taxi, but it is clear that this will cost more (300-800 baht per person) depending on the distance.
Haad Rin Nok Beach Hotel Recommendations
The choice of hotels is large and small at the same time. On the first line of the beach I recommend our hotel - Little Paradise. It has two options - a two-story building on the beach, comfortable large rooms with terraces and an excellent swimming pool, a cafe and a common terrace above the pool overlooking the sea - good for drinking coffee or having breakfast. In addition, there are bungalows - they are of two types - less comfortable old ones and more comfortable new ones. The bungalows are located on a hill 300 meters from the sea. A little further to the beach, but at night the music from discotheques does not disturb you. Disco noise– the only disadvantage of the hotel is if you live in rooms in the main building – where the reception is. The solution is to take bungalows on the hill, they are a little less comfortable, but they are quiet. Price for a double room – $25-$30, during the event Full Moon Party prices triple, but this is a general rule for all hotels in Koh Phangan without exception. In any case, I recommend this hotel as the best location-price-quality ratio.
The “fattier” option is one of those that we liked - Palita Lodge, right on the beach, swimming pool, restaurant - more expensive, but also more comfortable. Unlike Little Paradise, this hotel is located in the most beautiful part of the beach, on the left closer to the cliff.
Sea Garden Resort and Spa
More about accommodation on Koh Phangan you can read the article
OrganizationnutritiononHaadRin
Food in Thailand– this is a very small problem, or rather there is no problem at all. Cafes in the city, hotel restaurants - these are the more expensive ones; small cafes run by locals are the best option for the price, and they also taste better than in tourist places. An intermediate option in terms of price is food from 7/11 stores - drinks and food that are heated in microwaves, cheap and cheerful. On average, lunch and dinner cost 200-250 baht for two.
We ate at a local cafe with no name. On the way from Haad Rin towards Tong Sala there is a small cafe, we had lunch there several times, we didn’t repeat the menu - I recommend trying everything. Landmark - a cozy guest house deep from the road Thai Dee Garden Resort
On the sunset beach Haad Rin Nai there are several nice bars by the water overlooking the sea; on our Haad Rin Nok beach I recommend The Rock cafe-bar. It is located right on a cliff with a beautiful view of the beach and bay.
Full Moon Party on Koh Phangan
It would be strange to pass by this world-famous party, especially since we were there just these days.
First, check the schedule Full Moon Party for the rest of 2017 year even if you are not going to be on Koh Phangan during the party period. The fact is that these days, in addition to the date of Fool Moon Party mean a significant increase in housing prices. Plan your visit to Koh Phangan with these dates in mind.
- 11 April
- May 11
- the 9th of June
- July 10
- August 7
- September 5
- October 6
- the 3rd of November
- December 3
- Christmas - December 25
- New Year - December 31
I will not describe in detail the chaos happening at the Full Moon Party beach party. We are not fans of such parties or parties in general. But at first everything goes very, very decently - several stages, world-class DJs, tens of thousands of people from all over the world in acid T-shirts and all this on a strip of white sand half a kilometer long.
One of the chips Phangana– plastic buckets containing various bottled alcoholic drinks and solvents – cola, tonic, etc. (photo below). All this is poured into a bucket, mixed and consumed through a straw to hellishly rumbling music. During the party, almost everything is “allowed”, including soft drugs and casual relationships right on the sand of the beach, but we no longer saw this. And it’s better not to take a camera to such events; however, it’s also better to leave the keys to the motorbike and your room in a safe place. If you want to satisfy your curiosity, you should get to the beginning Full Moon Party and go to rest just after midnight... and you will be impressed and keep decent memories.
Full Moon Party has been going on since 1985, if I'm not mistaken. It was founded by hippies and Rastafarians living on Koh Phangan. Remember from the book “The Beach” - “... Phangan is not the same anymore. Can you imagine, they are already charging money for entry to the full moon party..." Yes, you will have to pay 200 baht to enter the party. In general, go on holiday to Koh Phangan, with or without Full Moon Party, it’s a matter of taste - you won’t regret it!

Haad Rin is a beach village on the island of Koh Phangan (Thailand), home to the world famous Full Moon Party. Located on a cape at the southernmost tip of Koh Phangan. This is one of the few beaches on the island where you can safely swim during the dry season.
How to get there
Fire shows
Besides the music and beach bars, another famous feature of Haad Rin is the spectacular fire shows. They are usually shown in front of the Cactus bar and Drop-In bar. Thais masterfully perform spectacular stunts that delight the crowd. Many tourists themselves take daytime Thai lessons, and in the evening personally demonstrate their skills in front of spectators. Thick ropes twisted around a stick are soaked in diesel fuel, which when burned releases a cloud of toxic gases, so don't stand downwind during the show. Fire shows are free to attend; if you liked them, you can reward the participants with a tip.
Full Moon Party
The Full Moon Party lasts three days in Haad Rin: on the night of the full moon, one day before and one day after the full moon every month throughout the year. It mainly attracts Western tourists.
The first party took place in 1985, when a small group of people noticed that the most beautiful full moon could be seen from Koh Phangan. About 20-30 people took part then. The party soon gained fame, and now attracts a crowd of 10 to 30 thousand participants every month. This is one of the most famous beach parties in the world. It begins in the evening, lasts all night and ends with sunrise. Thai and foreign DJs from all over the world play various types of music: psychedelic trance, rhythm and blues, drum and bass, house, reggae. The party is accompanied by colorful fire shows and massive consumption of alcohol and drugs. There are many bars along the beach to hang out with friends or meet people from all over the world. The Full Moon Party can rightfully be considered the most famous event in the world of dance culture.
If you find yourself in Haad Rin not during the full moon, don’t worry, there are other parties here: Half Moon (2 times a month), Black Moon, Shiva Moon, Jungle Experience.
Full Moon Party: Helpful Tips
A party attended by up to 30,000 young people fueled by alcohol and drugs cannot proceed without problems. Not everyone will leave this party with pleasant memories. In most cases, this happens because not everyone adheres to the basic rules of the festival. A wonderful party will no longer be so the next morning when you find yourself without money and a passport. What you need to know before attending the Full Moon Party.
Housing
Don't think you can arrive the day before the party and still get a room in Haad Rin hotels or nearby places. Most participants reserve rooms or bungalows at least a week before the party (or even earlier).
The full moon party is the most popular night for break-ins, thieves break into the bungalow and steal all the valuables. At many resorts, valuables can be left in safes, but there have already been cases of theft from them. Try to stay in more expensive hotels if you can afford it (e.g. Paradise Bungalow). Alternatively, skip Haad Rin and experience the festivities on a boat tour from Koh Samui. Similar tours are organized by the company http://grandseatours.com/, details on this page
Alcohol
Without booze, any party turns into a dull event. Consider the following points if you plan to drink a lot of alcohol.
Don't drive. There are thousands of alcohol-related accidents on Koh Phangan. Mainly because tourists drink a lot of alcohol and then drive rented scooters.
Don't swim. Don't swim while drunk. Even if you want to go for a swim at Haad Rin Beach, think about the hundreds of drunken participants relieving their bladders in the sea during the party.
Drugs
Although drugs are consumed by many partygoers, Thai laws regarding drug use are very strict. The party is inspected by police officers in disguise; drug dealers can even hand over their clients to the police.
Other tips
Don't go barefoot, be sure to wear shoes. In the morning after the party, there will be thousands of empty bottles lying on the beach. Watch the glass to avoid cutting your feet on broken beer bottles.
Try not to bring money in a bag or wallet.
In recent years there has been an increase in the number of attacks and robberies. Don't return from a party in the dark alone, leave it with friends.
Do not accept any alcoholic drinks or food from strangers whom you do not know and cannot trust.
Beach bars
The main nightlife in Haad Rin is concentrated on the beach area. Beach bars Drop-In Bar and Cactus Bar attract the largest crowds, offering discounts on drinks and fire shows.
Tommy Bar. Tommy Bar is part of the Tommy Resort. On the second floor there is an open-air dining area, a calm atmosphere reigns downstairs, visitors sip cocktails and watch what is happening around them. All this does not apply on the day of the full moon, when musical chaos and general drinking reigns. Address: 90/13 Haad Rin East.
Reggae House. Along the street near the police station is the Reggae House. The bar features a concrete statue of Bob Marley and also offers free consultations for those wishing to get a traditional Thai tattoo.

Accommodation
A week before the Half Moon Party or Full Moon Party, hotels in Haad Rin and the immediate surroundings are already booked. Alternatively, you can use hotels in remote areas of Koh Phangan. Hotels in other parts of the island are much cheaper.
Hotels along the beaches and in the pier area
Haad Rin Nok is the same beach where the monthly Full Moon Party takes place, parties that have long been sensational outside of Koh Phangan, Samui and the entire Kingdom of Thailand. In fact, FullMoon Party, developed infrastructure and sunrises are the only things that distinguish this ordinary beach, without any special natural splendor, from dozens of the same ones on Koh Phangan.
It has the hospital's average length, width and depth. It is located on the southernmost point of the island and faces east, so for night party makers the party always ends grandly with the dawn sun.
In this part of Koh Phangan there is a long cape that stretches from north to south, towards Koh Samui. The very tip of this cape is high hills with rocky steep banks. Between it and the main island a kind of flat surface has formed, an isthmus, on the sides of which there are two beaches: Haad Rin Nok and.
Haad Rin Nok is the eastern beach, shorter, about 600 meters long. It is bordered along the edges by steep rocky shores and can only be reached from the sea or by road from Tong Sala.
Entering the water, depth and waves
The entire beach is covered with grayish-yellow, flour-fine sand. On the flanks of the beach and in the surf, the sea washed up large fragments of shells and corals, pebbles and just very coarse sand, but these are isolated areas of Had Rin.
In general, it’s fine, fluffy sand, which, when wet, is compressed into a perfectly flat, dense surface on which sometimes it even hurts to walk barefoot; your heels feel like they’re hitting asphalt.
Together with the barely noticeable slope of the coast, the beach at low tide turns into an excellent walking track about fifty meters wide. In some places the bottom is so flat that puddles of sea water remain on the shore. The shallow water is such that you have to walk to shoulder depth (even at high tide) about 30 meters from the shore, and waves occur only during high tide and with a fair wind.
You can also catch waves closer to the edges of the beach, where it becomes a little deeper. The bottom of Had Rin is perfectly clean, without stones or other solid troubles. And it should be noted that with high water and at noon, the color of the sea on Haad Rin deserves special attention from amateur photographers.
Not far from Haad Rin Nok, in a cozy bay under Cape Laem Ta To, there is a beach called Haad Khontee. In general, I would like to make a separate post about it, but I only saw it while driving along the sea and only through a camera lens.
So at the end of Haad Rin's photo you can look at a couple of images of the lost world. The sea there is not swimmable, there are a lot of stones at the bottom. The beach is also like that, more for the surroundings than for a carefree vacation, but some people like it just like that, wild.
Sunbeds and shade
There are many trees on the beach, especially on the left side. The center of Haad Rin Nok is wider and more open, and shade can only be obtained from single huge trees or palm trees that grow in the private areas of the resorts. But as I said, Haad Rin is a beach on the eastern side of the island.
Therefore, the sun is hot here until noon, and then it begins to go to the west and the shadow from private trees creeps onto the public beach, so that closer to lunch you will have more than enough shady areas for shelter. I didn’t notice any sunbeds on Had Rin.

There is shade, the beach is wide, there are many houses
And in some places it’s not so shallow - look at the waves
When the sand dries, it turns into white flour. And when wet it becomes dense, like asphalt

Infrastructure
The beach infrastructure corresponds to its status - the number one party spot on Koh Phangan. Therefore, the entire isthmus is a labyrinth of buildings of different heights, where you can find absolutely all types of services, from rentals to medical care.
There are chain mini-markets, bank branches, ATMs, massage parlors and travel agencies, guesthouses, fruit shops, cafeterias from different countries and different price categories. The first line is occupied by resorts and hotels of various sizes.
Houses and hotels on the beach
There are really a lot of accommodation options, from the most chip options with rooms for a group, to hotels with completely non-budget rooms. Based on personal experience and reviews from people I know, it makes sense to book accommodation in one of these hotels/resorts for the long term:
Be sure (and I insist) to check for discounts or special offers on a great service. It will quickly and easily show you discounts in all existing booking systems. In Asia, for example, there are a lot of offers on Agoda.com, which are much more interesting than for exactly the same hotels on Booking.com.
How to find the beach
Below on the map, I marked with a special brown marker a corner mini-market, near which you need to turn left to get to Haad Rin Nok beach. The main road in this part of Phangan looks like an ordinary secondary concrete road, so the turn will not be obvious and it is better to remember the landmark. Next, drive all the way until a parking lot full of bikes appears. The place is popular, so the closer to the sea, the less free parking space, especially cars. Keep this in mind.
Ample parking space
