How far is it from Surin to Patong? What has surin beach become in phuket, thailand. From Phuket Town
The best summer is winter on the islands of Thailand. I remember our trip to Thailand and tell you about Surin Beach. Experienced lovers of Tai know it well and love it for its clean sea, soft sand, palm grove on the shore and inexpensive housing nearby.
A few years ago, these options were accompanied by several cafes/restaurants and clubs located along the shore, as well as sun loungers and deck chairs on the beach. By decision of the current authorities of Phuket, appointed by the military, the cafes were demolished, the sun loungers and sun loungers were also removed.
By the way, according to the locals and our winterers living here, sunbeds and sun loungers on the beaches of Phuket are now illegal. The goal is to make the beaches of Phuket more natural, closer to nature. Many hotels, if they put sun loungers, do so away from the sea.
In place of the clubs and cafes of Surin, it seems that there are plans to create a memorial square dedicated to the King of Thailand. Perhaps next year, this winter of 2017 there was nothing but street food stalls.
We have Phuket was an addition to Koh Phangan Island where we spent most of the trip.
We have been here before and traveled the length and breadth of the island. The current program was limited to beaches Surin And Bang Tao, which I wrote about recently.
Surin, despite the demolition of bars, clubs and cafes, it remains one of the best on the island if your goal is a beautiful sea, as well as inexpensive food and affordable quality housing.
Surin Beach is located northwest of Phuket 20 km. from the international airport. The beach is small, about 200 meters long, semi-oval in shape. Due to its modest size and beautiful clean sea, as well as a palm grove where you can hide from the sun, during the daytime season there are quite a lot of people here, as for Thailand.
Exit - go to the next one bang tao beach, which, due to its length (7 km), seems endless and deserted, especially at the edges.
The second way to escape the crowds and get aesthetic pleasure is even easier. Near Surin beach there is an elite beach hidden from ordinary eyes, which we called Surin-2. If on Surin beach face the sea, then it is on the right.
Getting there is both simple and difficult at the same time. There is no access by land; the beach is closed to access - only for those staying at the hotel. The easiest way is along the stones from Surin Beach, a route passable even in flip-flops and with a beach bag. Nobody asks questions.
In fact, Surin-2 is the beach of one hotel - expensive The Surin Phuket, although there are good prices for it in the OFF-season. There is another hotel in a tiny bay (photo below) between beautiful boulders - but it’s not even on the booking page.
Few of the vacationers on Surin beach knows about the existence of these heavenly places, which are not inferior in beauty to those of the Maldives. And still crowded Surin resembles an anthill, Surin-2 has glossy beach life. There are practically no Russians, they are all in Bang Tao, most of the guests lounge on sun loungers in the shade of trees or near their bungalows, there are at most a dozen people in the water and on the beach.
Pros and cons of Surin Beach
A small summary of the most important things about Surin beach
Pros:
- Convenient location in relation to the airport - half an hour by taxi and you’re there
- Excellent sea, gentle entrance to the water, fine light yellow sand
- It’s nice to swim even at low tide, there is no marine debris - algae, shells, etc.
- The beach is very photogenic - photographers and couples come for romantic photos at sunset
- There are a lot of inexpensive hotels near the beach, I would even say that there are too many of them
- Many budget cafes and fish restaurants near the beach
- Several 7/11 stores and street food throughout the day, but especially in the mornings
- Nearby there is a beautiful place called Laguna, where you can take a walk and the long Bang Tao beach - there you can find deserted places even in peak season
- Nearby is Surin-2 - a very beautiful beach, which can be reached by walking along the rocks to the right of Surin Beach if you are not a hotel guest The Surin Phuket
Minuses:
- There are no cafes on the beach that used to give it a special flavor, style and comfort
- Crowded during peak seasons and during the day, many come from the neighboring Kamala Beach
- Dense hotel development on the coastline, except for the beach itself in the evening there is nowhere to walk
How to get to Surin Beach
You can get from the international airport by taxi - the price is fixed, 500-600 baht. Back in the same way - right next to Surin there is a taxi stand, something like a street office. You can save money and catch a car on the road - it will be 100 baht cheaper.
Where to eat and buy fruit
Even if you don’t drive a bike or your goal is a beach holiday, along the road that runs along the sea and connects the beaches of Kamala, Surin, Bangtao and beyond, there are a lot of 7/11 stores with inexpensive food, cafes and small fish restaurants that are convenient to go to after sunset Fruit is delivered every morning - there are several sales points along the same road.
ABOUT prices in Thailand in 2017 I wrote in an article How much does a holiday in Thailand actually cost?
.
Where to live on Surin Beach
It is best to choose hotels between the beaches Surin And Bangtao, thus you get the opportunity to choose between two locations, and in fact even between three, if you take into account the semi-secret Surin-2. I look for hotels and other accommodation in Thailand on the website HotelsCombined (RoomGuru) - Thailand
My recommendations for hotels on Surin Beach- from those that I chose, and we lived in one of them. All of them are mid-budget, comfortable and cost $40-$50. The beach is no more than 5 minutes walk.
Where to buy cheap flights to Thailand
IN Bangkok or tickets directly to Phuket can be purchased on the website aviasales.ru– I use it and am very pleased with both the prices and various convenient things, like the low price calendar.
How to get around Phuket Island
There are three main ways - by taxi, renting a bike or car. The most expensive is a taxi. If there are no plans to sit in one place, there are two or three/four of you, then it is better to rent a car. The price is around $30, you can get a car immediately upon arrival at Phuket airport. You also need a car if you plan to travel extensively around the island; riding a bike will get tired and not so comfortable. I’m looking for cars on the website - a clear price, a cool selection both among international operators and among local rental car companies.
Traffic on the island is calm, the terrain is almost flat, with the exception of a few lookout points. Serpentine as on Phangan no, but you get used to the right-hand drive in about 10 minutes. In addition to a sun umbrella and things, you can always put food from a supermarket or 7/11 in your car and eat on a deserted beach somewhere on the northern beaches.
Useful articles about Thailand:
Last modified Monday, September 11, 2017We continue to introduce you to the best beaches of Phuket island. Today we will tell you about Surin Beach - a beautiful beach divided into two long parts. And if the southern one has long been chosen by tourists, then in the northern one, which is chic and absolutely deserted, you are unlikely to meet anyone because... Almost no one knows how to get there. Except us. 😉
Many names of Thai beaches are familiar to almost everyone who has visited this island - Kata, Karon, Patong and others, but some remain a gap in knowledge about where you can have a beautiful and relaxing holiday in Phuket away from crowds of tourists. However, we don’t feel sorry and, having studied the island like the back of our hands, we decided not to skimp and tell you where the most beautiful and most secluded beaches of the island are located. Today we will talk about one of our favorites, moderately removed from the usual tourist paths, but still containing corners unknown to the masses. As you may have guessed from the title, we will tell you about Surin Beach, and you should not confuse it with the group of the same name, where we also managed to visit and about which we wrote a great review.
By the way, subscribe on my Instagram. There I quickly post the best photos and stories from my travels. 🙂
Surin Beach on the map of Phuket
Surin Beach is located in the western part of the island, north of Patong and Kamala Beach. It is on this coast that the best beaches in Phuket are located. Some of them are located in tourist places, some are hidden from prying eyes, and some beaches cannot be sneaked onto without skill and knowledge of hidden paths. We explored many small hidden beaches, but not all of them, despite their privacy, deserve attention.
Review of Surin Beach from Travel or Die
Surin Beach, as can be seen on the map above, is divided into 2 parts and one, the main one, is quite easily accessible. There are much fewer people there than on the beaches of Kata, Kata Noi, Karon or Patong, but the southern part of the beach still cannot be called particularly secluded. The second part of Surin Beach, our favorite, is located just north of the main coastline. There are two ways to get there, we will describe both below - which one is easier, decide for yourself.
Surin Beach: secluded northern part
Northern Surin is almost half the size of the southern one, its length is only about 400 meters. And what we like about northern Surin is its pleasant and calm atmosphere, especially in the evening, when you can serenely watch the sun setting over the horizon, as well as its white sand and very clear sea. Although most of the beaches of Phuket are very clean, with clear water, here, due to the not so wild abundance of tourists, the spirit of pristine nature has also been preserved.
2) Since the entire beach area is occupied by the luxury hotel Amanpuri, the first and most legal way to sneak to the beach is to stomp for 15-20 minutes through a ridge of stones fencing off 2 parts of it.
3) For us, jumping over stones or making our way through the jungle has long been a familiar activity, so we do not experience discomfort or fear. 🙂
4) Along the way, in the rocks you can find some kind of baths with sea urchins, as well as just garbage, so be careful and don’t forget to wear suitable shoes.
5) But we dare to assume that not every madam or gentleman will consider the idea of overcoming this barrier of boulders a good idea. Some kind of skill is still needed. Therefore, we recommend visiting at least the southern part of Surin and testing the waters before moving to its secluded territory. May the one who walks master the road! You will know that at least you tried! And it's definitely worth a try. 🙂
The second way to get to northern Surin is to become a guest of the Amanpuri Hotel and calmly walk to the beach along the stairs leading from the hotel to the water's edge. The hotel is located along the entire northern part of Surin Beach. It most likely won’t be possible to enter it secretly from the road; the security at the entrance is quite strict, although, who knows, maybe you will succeed. But it is not forbidden to walk from the beach up the stairs to the hotel and wander around there illegally; no one is watching this. So you can make the way back not over the stones, but through the hotel to the road and walk to your bike or car.
You won’t be able to book Amanpuri on the usual popular services; there are never any rooms available. This can be done either on the hotel’s own website, or through HotelLook, where the cost is slightly lower.
6) View from the hotel to the beach.
The only thing is that if you leave the hotel in daylight, there is a chance that the staff, seeing your escape on foot, will strongly suggest that you do not walk to the road, but will take you by golf cart to the checkpoint, and even take a photo of you in the face, maybe you stole or killed someone in a hotel and run. If you have not broken the law while staying on the hotel premises, then transfer by golf cart is even a pleasant option that will save 7 minutes of walking. But, if it is not yet dark, then it is not forbidden to go back over the stones. Ap tu yu.
7) The path, of course, is not for everyone, but the result is worth it - an almost completely deserted beach, especially if you arrive early in the morning or stay after sunset, super clear water with many colorful fish.
8) View from southern to northern Surin.
9) The northern part of Surin itself, due to its not obvious accessibility, is quite deserted. For comparison, scroll below and see how many people are on the south side at the same time! Despite the luxury of the beach, only hotel guests relax there, but there are very few of them on the beach, because the hotel’s amazing service offers a lot of activities on its territory. So guests chill in bars, restaurants, on luxurious sun loungers and by the pool.
10) And people vacationing in southern Surin don’t even realize what beauty is hidden behind the ridge of stones. 🙂
11) It’s shallow near the shore and children are splashing around calmly, and after a few meters the depth is already comfortable for swimming. The water is still insanely clear and turquoise.
12) And the flour-white sand and the minimal number of people made us remember our vacation in the Maldives. Probably this beach in Phuket is most suitable for comparison with our beloved Maldives. Even the beaches of the islands of Surin, Similan, Koh Rok, Racha, Coral (links to the report), etc., which we managed to visit, cannot compare with the beauty of this beach.
Surin Beach: public southern part
In addition to the “closed” northern part, Surin also has a southern part, open to absolutely everyone. Its length is about 750 meters. And even though there are noticeably fewer tourists here than in Kata and other Karons and Patongs, you are unlikely to be able to relax alone during the high season. After all, even many locals consider Surin Beach one of the best beaches in Phuket.
15) The theater starts from the hanger, and the beach from the parking lot. And in Surin there are no problems with this, there is both an extended parking line for bikes, almost along the entire width of the beach, and areas where you can park your car.
17) Along the parking lot for bikes there is a pedestrian path, on the other side of which there are various cafes where you can sit and taste a variety of local foods.
You can see food prices here:
- Soft drinks: photo 1
- Food and snacks: photo 1, photo 2, photo 3, photo 4, photo 5
18) There are also areas for massage, although unlike the more infrastructurally thought-out Kata-Karonov, here it all looks somewhat collective farm. 🙂
19) To confirm our words about the not particularly developed infrastructure of the beach, we attach a photo of the only (it seems) beach shower. 🙂 In general, Surin Beach, as you understand, is not really about service. 🙂
20) But most people appreciate Surin for the opportunity to bask in the shade of a pine and palm grove, which is located on the first line of the beach and where you can perfectly accommodate your belongings.
21) Of course, for this purpose in the high season it is better to arrive early, otherwise the most desirable places may be taken. 🙂
22) Surin personally captivated us with the riot of colors of multi-colored umbrellas! We have never seen anything like this.
23) Look how cute it looks from a bird's eye view! 🙂
24) Beautiful!
25) But not everything in southern Surin is so wonderful; there are also moments that slightly darken the rest. Like many other beaches, there is a wastewater outlet, and it is not somewhere on the edge, like on Katya, but right in the center. We really didn’t notice that this black slurry, like oil, was flowing straight into the sea, but the smell of this garbage lake can be heard for dozens of meters around. Not critical, but not very pleasant.
26) This is what it looks like from above.
27) Otherwise the beach is beautiful.
Review and rating of Surin beach from Travel or Die
The editors of the site have visited Surin many times in both low and high seasons, and we can confidently recommend this beach for visiting. Yes, it has its own stinking river, yes, the infrastructure here is rather weak, but that’s not the main thing here. Surin is loved for its beautiful clean sea, snow-white sand, excellent snorkeling and the fact that here you can always find a place in the shade and have a great time. 🙂 And for now we are only talking about southern Surin, because for the northern one everything is the same, only multiplied by at least two! 🙂
Surin Beach rating: 9/10.
Hotels on Surin Beach
Surin Beach is ideal for those who want to get a little more privacy than on the popular southern beaches of Phuket, but do not want to be completely alone, as on the northern one. 🙂
Hotels on Surin Beach cannot boast of a wide range of offers, mostly in the mid-high price category, but choosing something for budget tourists will not be so easy. Therefore, prepare for a price tag of 2000-3000 rubles per night minimum.
The most popular hotels on Surin Beach are:
Well, if you want a hotel on the first line of Surin beach, then Amanpuri is for you, which we already wrote about in the review of the northern part of the beach. 🙂
You can book any hotel in Surin through Agoda, because they have the lowest prices for Thailand - verified by dozens of perfect reservations. 🙂
Where to book a hotel on Surin Beach
Specifically for Thailand, I recommend using the Agoda website - this is a portal that belongs to the same holding company as the familiar Booking. It’s just that there are many more hotels on Agoda and the prices there are in 99% of cases lower than on Booking.

Apartments on Surin Beach
By the way, if you suddenly prefer apartments and apartments to hotels, then to rent them it is best to use the AirBnB service - the most popular site in the field of booking private housing. Using the link you can get a discount of about $20 on your first booking.
Excursions from Surin Beach
On Surin Beach you can always book interesting sightseeing tours around Phuket or outing tours to islands and national parks, as well as buy tickets for various show programs.
In order not to waste time upon arrival searching for excursions around Phuket, I recommend you a couple of online services:
- . All of their excursions can be purchased online, but if necessary, the manager will come to any place convenient for you. While I lived in Phuket, I only used their services and they never let me down. I went with them to Surin, Similan, Khao Lak, rode ATVs and everything else I did. 🙂
- . This is a cool service for individual excursions. In Phuket, I have not yet resorted to their services, because... during my visit they had very few offers, but I tested their service more than once in other cities of Russia and abroad and I can be sure that in Phuket they now conduct excellent excursions.
Beaches near Surin
Surin Beach is also good because there are several other cool beaches literally next door to it. Jumping along the road beyond the cape to the north, you will discover the almost endless expanses of the gigantic Bang Tao, where most of the coastline is also bordered by pine forest and where, closer to the north, there is a lot of free space for picnics with almost no people. From the south, Surin is “propped up” by another beach - Kamala, not our favorite, but also worthy of at least a one-time visit.
But this is only a small part of the interesting beaches on the island. If you are interested in a complete list of these, look for it in our article

I’ll tell you about one of my favorite beaches in Phuket – Surin beach. I don’t know why my love for this beach is connected, because it doesn’t have the infrastructure I need, but for some reason the Surin scourge has sunk into my soul :) Perhaps because it was the first beach we visited when we arrived in Phuket after wintering in, and perhaps because it is quite sparsely populated, especially compared to the southern beaches of the island... This article contains a description, infrastructure, hotels, reviews and photos of Surin beach.
Surin Beach is one of my favorite beaches in Phuket!
Description of the beach
Surin Beach Phuket A small beach by Phuket standards in the north-west of the island. Exact location of the beach. It is located between two other popular beaches: Bang Tao Beach on the north side and on the south side. Between Surin Beach and Kamala Beach there is a small bay in which it is hidden (at the moment you can only get to it by sea), and between Surin and Bang Tao the Pansea Surin Beach, on which the only hotel is located (you can only get to this beach through hotel or along the stones from the northern part of Surin Beach). On both sides of the bay there are picturesque mountains, stones and rocks.
The northern part of Surin beach, there is another beach behind the cape, which belongs to an expensive hotel
Some years ago, Surin Phuket beach was one of the comfortable places for beach and evening relaxation, there was a popular beach club called Catch beach club, and vacationers from neighboring beaches came for dinner to nice restaurants on the seashore.
Surin had all the beach infrastructure: sun loungers, umbrellas, showers, toilets. But one day the island’s government decided to remove the tourist infrastructure from Surin Beach and create a park next to the beach dedicated to the King of Thailand. But something went wrong... the infrastructure was demolished, but the park was never organized :) Now the surroundings of the beach do not look very presentable, although many say that now the beach looks natural and natural :)
Once upon a time there were good restaurants and beach clubs in Surin, now there is none of this...
Beach, shade, sea, waves
The beach strip of Surin Beach is not very long by Phuket standards, only about 800 meters (this is not the neighboring multi-kilometer Bang Tao beach :) The beach is wide, lush vegetation grows along the sea: casuarinas, some deciduous trees, and in the southern part of the beach there is a picturesque palm grove. Due to the fact that Surin Beach is wide and faces west, there is natural shade from trees only in the first half of the day, and even then there is not much of it; most of the beach strip is under the sun.
Surin Beach is located in a bay, its length is about 800 meters
Quite long and wide Surin beach
The trees grow far from the water's edge, the beach faces west, so there is natural shade here only until lunchtime; shady areas should be occupied early in the morning :)
Palm grove in the northern part of the beach
Palm trees in the northern part of the beach
The sand is a beautiful beige color and quite fine. The water in the sea is clear, on a sunny day a very beautiful turquoise color (almost like). Entry into the sea is very comfortable: there are no stones, shells, algae or other natural debris on the surf line. The depth increases gradually, but rather spasmodically: shallow, deep, shallow again :)
Fine clean sand
The color of the water in the sea is like on the neighboring islands :)
Transparent and gentle sea
In the low season from May to October there are strong waves on Surin Beach, but in winter the sea may or may not be rough :) In January-February last year we observed complete calm on Surin Beach, but this season at the same time time on the beach there are small pleasant waves.
January 2017 - complete calm!
January 2019 - waves!
Surin Beach infrastructure
At the moment, there are no sun loungers or umbrellas on the sand on Surin Beach, unlike many other beaches in Phuket! From time to time, mattresses and areas for rent appear on the beach (200 - 300 baht per couple), beach chairs and inflatable mattresses are also rented. Merchants walk along the beach offering to buy an inflatable “sofa” lamzak.
Periodically, mattresses and umbrellas appear on the beach for rent
These folding beds are also available for rent
You can buy an inflatable “sofa” Lamzak
There are sun loungers on a hill in the southern part of Surin Beach (if you look at the sea, on the left). The cost of a sunbed is 150 baht (on most other beaches in Phuket 100 baht).
Sunbeds on a hill at the southern end of the beach
In this same part of the beach there are only two stationary cafes overlooking the sea. And on the path along the sea every morning numerous bowls with food and drinks are laid out.

Prices in makashnitsa along Surin Beach:
- Coconut – 50 baht – 60 baht
- Fruit shakes – 50 baht – 80 baht
- Pancakes – 50 baht – 60 baht
- Dishes with rice and chicken/pork – 150 baht
- Pad Thai – 80 baht – 120 baht
- Beer from 60 baht
- Glass of wine – 100 baht

On the beach in two places I saw improvised showers with fresh water. One shower in the southern part of the beach near a hill with sun loungers. “Shower” is not its exact name: in this case it’s just a barrel of fresh water, you need to shower yourself from a ladle. Another shower on the path near the makashnitsy in the northern part of the beach. Cost 20 baht. There is a toilet for 10 baht in the cafe.
Here’s a “shower” in the southern part of the beach: you need to pour fresh water on yourself from a barrel

You can get a massage near the beach, the prices are higher than, for example, on the neighboring Kamala beach or in a normal salon in Central Festival:
- Thai massage – 400 baht
- Foot massage – 400 baht
- Facial massage – 500 baht
- Coconut oil massage – 500 baht

Fun on Surin Beach
Fortunately, there are no water activities on Surin Beach :) You can’t ride a jet ski or parasail here, you can swim completely safely, knowing that no one will run over or fall on your head :)
There is also no normal snorkeling on Surin beach, although people swim near the rocks with masks - what they are watching there is a mystery to me... For good snorkeling, you need to go to other islands of Thailand, for example, or at least .
There are no water activities on Sirin, but there is a horse that you can ride :)
Cleanliness and crowd at Surin Beach
If we talk about the cleanliness of the beach, then in the high season (winter) the beach is quite clean and well-groomed. But in the summer, the beach is not cleared of debris that is washed ashore by the waves 🙁 In the off-season (September - October), Surin Beach also cannot boast of cleanliness.
There are more and more people on the beach every year. If previously it was mainly Europeans who vacationed in Surin, this season there are a lot of Russian-speaking families with children. In general, it’s kind of a full house in Phuket now, this wasn’t the case last year!
In recent days, numerous buses have been spotted in Surin bringing tourists to the beach!
Thais also love relaxing on Surin Beach, who come here on weekends or on weekdays in the late afternoon, lay out their rugs and eat and eat :)
There are few people on Surin beach in October, but the beach at this time is not very clean...
That's how many people are at sea in Surin in January!
Infrastructure of the Surin Phuket region
Along the beach strip of Surin Beach there is a small, not very well-groomed path, on one side of which there are shops, and on the other, bikes are parked. You can park your car either in the center at the entrance to this path or on the right in the large field.
The path along the sea in Surin is filled with mucks and bikes
Path along the sea
The main road runs 200 meters from the beach. There are 24-hour 7 Helen and Family stores, cafes, massage parlors, and hotels. There is a Tesco Express store 600 meters from the sea, along the road they sell fruit and other small items. The nearest Super Chip store is 2 km from the beach.
A large Tesco supermarket is located about 3 km from Surin Beach in Bang Tao, where there is also an evening market. Villa Market is approximately 5 km away.

Surin Beach Hotels
Speaking about hotels on Surin Beach, it should be noted that on the very seashore (on the first line) there are no hotels. Basically, all the hotels are located on the road, which runs 200 m from the beach, and to get to the beach you have to walk along not very well-maintained paths.
Excellent hotel for families with children, 200 m from the beach
BUT: in the southern part of the beach on a hill there is a hotel with a luxurious panoramic pool and rooms with sea views. There are stairs leading to the beach. We can say that this is a hotel on Surin beach on the first line :)

And behind the cape in the north there is a luxury hotel with its own beach in Pansy Bay.

Surin Beach reviews
Usually, when I write my reviews about beaches, I consider both the beach strip and the area nearby (for example, my favorite - I like both the beach itself and the area with all the infrastructure next to it :)). In the case of Surin Beach, I want to separate my review and highlight Surin Beach itself and the surrounding area.
We really like Surin Beach for its relative uncrowding, clean sand, beautiful color of the sea, and pleasant water.
But the Surin beach area didn’t really impress me... it feels kind of neglected and unkempt :)
Surin Beach is suitable for a quiet, relaxing holiday, a family holiday and for families with children. Party-goers will be bored here, although there are several beach clubs very close, for example Catch beach club in Bang Tao and Café Del Mar in Kamala.

Southern part of Surin Beach
Long beach strip, excellent entry into the sea
Unfortunately, there are quite a lot of annoying merchants on the beach
Good entry into the water without stones and debris, in the low season there are waves on the beach
There are large stones in the water in the center of the beach; you need to swim to the right or left of them
In the off-season the beach is almost empty
The sea here is quite deep, so the ebb and flow of the tides are not particularly noticeable, i.e. You can swim comfortably even during low tides
From the airport to Surin Beach you can get by:
- Taxi by meter
- Pre-paid taxi for 700 baht
- By taxi with Russian-speaking drivers. You can order through the Tune application: just install the application on your phone, enter the code 1TRZAT, choose where and from where to go, you can order a taxi in advance for a specific date and time
- On a pre-booked transfer. Book a transfer from the airport >>
- By bus with a transfer: take the yellow bus that goes from the airport to Phuket Town to the circle with the monument to the heroines, and then catch a bus that goes from Phuket Town to Kamala via Surin. The journey is long, it’s better to take a taxi!
- By rented car.
From other Phuket beaches you can get to Surin Beach by:
- bike
- car
- Taxi
- walk from the southern part of Bang Tao beach
- by direct bus from Bang Tao or Kamala
- by bus from other beaches with transfers in Phuket Town (very long!)
Taxi rates from Surin Beach
Its length is about 800 meters, width - up to 55 meters. The shore is covered with fine light sand. The water here is clear and turquoise in color.
Surin Beach is popular among Russian tourists and is distinguished by its versatility: those who are accustomed to a calm and measured pastime at the resort, party lovers (clubs and bars are open from November to May), surfers and couples in love relax here. There are also quite a lot of locals on the beach.
However, while sunbathing and swimming in the sea, one should not forget that the sun in Southeast Asia in general and in Thailand in particular is very active, so it is quite easy to get sunburned or get sunstroke here. You can protect yourself by hiding in the shade, wearing hats and using sunscreen with a high UV protection index.
Lifeguards are always on duty on the beach. During the monsoon season, which lasts in Phuket from May to October, high waves occur on the beach. At this time, surfers from all over the world flock to Surin Beach. Skiing equipment can be rented (the rental price is constantly changing, so it makes sense to find out about it on the spot). If you don’t know how to skate, local instructors will help you master the board.
From October to April, when the sea in these places is calmest, snorkeling is one of the main entertainments on Surin: snorkelers admiring the underwater world prefer to dive in the waters off the northern part of the beach. The necessary equipment can be rented from local instructors or purchased at nearby shops. There are many amazing fish swimming near the shore, and in the evenings you can even meet reef sharks, which, despite their threatening appearance, are completely safe for humans.
You can also go diving. It is recommended to do this near the reefs, as there are quite a lot of marine life of the most bizarre shapes there. You can see moray eels, barracuda, starfish, numerous crustaceans including lobsters and so on.
Every year, the infrastructure of Surin is developing: cafes and restaurants serving local and European cuisine are opening next to the sandy beach, and new hotels are being built. It's fun here at any time of year or day. Of course, Surin is one of the most popular beaches in Phuket (both among tourists and local residents).
During the high season, you can stay on the shore with your own equipment and completely free of charge (free admission), or rent a sun lounger under a beach umbrella, the cost per day is standard - 100 baht (subject to change, check on the spot). In terms of our money, this is about 200 rubles. Quite inexpensive, especially compared to European beaches.

Reviews of Surin Beach in Phuket
Tourists who have visited Surin Beach, first of all, note the sometimes strong waves (but this is also an advantage, especially for those who are fans of surfing), and secondly, the abundance of greenery along the coast.
Surin Beach is one of the most picturesque in Phuket and is a great place for beach photo shoots. The roadway is separated from the shore by deciduous and coniferous trees; you can sit on the sand and at the same time hide in the shade.
Vacationers also write about the cleanliness of the water and the well-groomed area of the beach itself. When there are no waves, you can also relax here with children. The entrance to the sea is gentle, the depth increases gradually, there are no sharp changes.
Some write about incredibly beautiful sunsets, and those who wake up early can look forward to a truly natural light show featuring the sun, sky and sea in the morning at dawn.

How to get to Surin Beach
You can get to the beach by public bus (for example, from Kamala Beach) or by taxi. The cost of a taxi fare from Phuket airport is 450-600 baht according to the meter (900-1200 rubles at the current exchange rate), from Patong - at least 500 baht (respectively, 1000 rubles). If you are driving without a meter, be careful, the taxi driver can name any amount upon arrival at your destination. It makes sense to negotiate in advance (plus, no one has canceled reasonable bargaining; it works in Thailand).
You can get from the city center by bus; the cost of the ticket will depend on the transport company, but it is always cheaper than taking a taxi.
Thai buses are called songthaews. These are not too big open blue vans with benches inside. When it rains, buses are covered with awnings. Such cars drive slowly and stop very often to pick up and drop off passengers, so a journey of just 10 km can take you more than 30 minutes. To exit anywhere, you need to press the bell button inside the body. It is customary to give money to the driver upon exiting.
Nearby is the sandy beach of Bang Tao, which can be reached in 20 minutes or by local tuk-tuk or rented scooter (rental 200 baht/day). There is ample parking space near the resort shore.
Another option to get to the beach is by water. So, on the neighboring beaches you can rent a boat or kayak and try to get to Surin Beach by water. The cost will be higher than if you get there by land, but the experience will be much greater.
A convenient option for those who are used to planning everything in advance is a transfer to Surin Beach from the KiwiTaxi service:

Surin Beach is a beach and resort in Phuket, located almost in the very center of the west coast of the island, 16 km from and 25 km from Phuket Town. In the north it borders with, with which it is connected only by highway; it cannot be reached by sea. Length is about a kilometer, width - 40 m.
Surin Beach on the map of Phuket
Surin has a well-developed infrastructure with hotels, restaurants, bars, large shops, massage parlors, motorbike rentals and tour desks. Therefore, it is not necessary to go to other resort towns for entertainment and shopping - everything can be found here.
Surin is sometimes called the “Beach of Millionaires”, saying that many celebrities and rich people of the planet choose these places as a vacation. In fact, they stay a little further north, in the sheltered Pansea Beach, where there are two expensive hotels - The Surin Phuket (formerly Chedi Phuket) and Amanpuri. This place is separated from Surin and cannot be reached along the coast.
How to get there from the airport
Since Surin Beach is located close to the airport, you can get there in about 30 minutes. Most likely you will have to take a taxi, since minivans usually only go to Patong, Karon and Kata. By taxi the price is negotiable, but it is unlikely to be higher than 500 baht.
Can be ordered in advance.
