The best month for a holiday in Montenegro, especially with children, is September. When it’s not so hot anymore, but the sea is still warm, there are significantly fewer people on the beaches, and prices go down. And September is harvest time. Grapes and figs can be eaten straight from the branches. I recommend going from the end of August to the end of September.

It is better to go with preschoolers in September. Traveling in August is best avoided due to the abundance of tourists and heat.

If you are planning a trip for a month or less, then it is best to choose August or June. In July-August, rotavirus always walks along the coast. If you go for a longer period, then I would go from April to July and from September to November.

Anna Zhiltsova:
The ideal time here is from late April to mid-late June, and then after the second half of September. Yes, lovers of extreme heat can come during the peak season, but sometimes the air can be so hot and humid that it is impossible to do without air conditioning in the very morning. Children are hot and have difficulty sleeping. Plus my personal experience as a mother of a child with allergies: in the heat, children sweat more, causing more skin irritation. For how long to go - well, as finances allow, of course! Optimally at least a couple of weeks.

Where to live

Anna Shipitsina:
Budva is convenient because the city has a bus station, a hospital, a private clinic, a private laboratory, many grocery stores, beauty salons and game rooms (games - at the bus station, at the recreation center - “ Masha”, in the area of ​​the Slovenska Beach hotel complex - “ Alexander,” in the center on Mainsky Put - “ Theater"). The main disadvantage of Budva is that there are a lot of tourists. So many!

During the off-season, you can also stay in an apartment, but you just need to choose decent housing - dry, clean, with new furniture. But in the season, it’s better to stay in a good hotel, but here I have only two options - the Splendid hotel and the Iberostar. In Budva, you need to choose a hotel by the sea; it can be quite noisy in the Old Town.

Another option is Tivat - there is a children's playground, a beautiful embankment, shops and infrastructure.

But the most inconvenient city for me is Herceg Novi, because of the numerous stairs - it’s hard to carry a stroller and constantly get up and down.

In my opinion, cities should be avoided altogether and settled in the private sector or in villages located on the coast. Hotels or apartments - depends on the budget. In my opinion, apartments are cheaper and more comfortable, but you need to rent on the spot or through friends. Many Russians rent out their apartments and houses, and, in my opinion, they are worth choosing. Food in hotels is monotonous, it makes no sense to focus on it.

Olga Jess:
Becici, in my opinion, is an ideal place to relax with children. There are good beaches and developed infrastructure. Cafes, restaurants, many grocery stores, pharmacies, clinic. All sorts of entertainment for children: attractions, playgrounds, water park. At the same time, it is quieter and fewer people here than in neighboring Budva. But if you wish, you can get to the most popular Montenegrin resort in ten minutes by bus or even walk along the beautiful embankment.

In my opinion, it will not be very convenient with children in Herceg Novi. Firstly, due to the fact that the city consists almost entirely of huge stairs, and due to the lack of a normal beach (within the city limits you can only swim on the concrete embankment. - Ed.).

It is most convenient to live in apartments with children. Firstly, it's cheaper. Secondly, when you have your own kitchen, you can always prepare your child’s favorite dish. But it is worth noting an important detail. In popular resorts, cafes and restaurants are noisy until two in the morning. Therefore, it is better to choose housing away from the sea, oddly enough.

For me personally, it is always more convenient to stay in an apartment, since the child is small and I cook for him myself. But in Montenegro there is a good Iberostar hotel (Becici), where excellent conditions are created for children.

Maria Smolkova:
The most convenient place to relax is in Becici - wide beaches, there is entertainment for children, there are shops, pharmacies, a medical center, many restaurants and cafes. At the same time, there are no noisy discos and frantic bustle.

For me, the most inconvenient places in the Bay of Kotor are the beaches are too narrow, most are located next to the highway, there is no entertainment, and the water is not clean everywhere. Many people are looking for a quiet place away from the hustle and bustle to relax with children. Here you need to understand that often in such quiet places there is no basic supermarket or pediatrician. There is a small shop with bread and milk and that's it. Not to mention the playgrounds. This must be taken into account. Also, many here are looking for a beach with sand, but small pebbles are healthier and the beaches with them are cleaner.

Budva and its surroundings (Becici, Rafailovici) are very convenient because they are close to the airport and have developed infrastructure around them. But I always choose Ulcinj - it takes two hours to get there by car from the airport, but I like the city and it seems very cozy.

Where to swim

Anna Shipitsina:
It is worth swimming where there are the least number of tourists. For example, on paid beaches - near St. Stephen (but not everyone can afford it - 50 euros per day) or in Budva (Mogren 2, Jaz) and Ploce in Lastva. For those who are just learning to swim, there is Plavi Horizonti - it is quite shallow along the shore. The time is in the morning, until the water is saturated with iodine and everything from the bottom has not been shaken up.

Some people like printed beaches, others like pebble ones. With kids, it's best to have both on hand. So that the child can play with the sand and throw pebbles into the sea. There is such a variety of beaches in Becici. It’s also great that there is a smooth entrance to the sea and there are no big waves. In 2015, two beaches in Becici were awarded the Blue Flag. The water there is really clean.

We love three beaches that are located near us: Jaz, Trsteno, Ploce. There are small playgrounds on Jaz and Ploce. Trsteno is good because it has real sand (not small pebbles, which are often found on the beaches of Montenegro) and a shallow, flat bottom. We didn’t really like the famous Jaz near Budva during the peak season, although in general it is child-friendly, there are a lot of different activities for children and adults. During peak season, dirt on the beach and large crowds of people are common. But this is also the case in other countries of Southern Europe. And if you go swimming from the very morning, until 10–11 o’clock, then there won’t be that many people. From personal experience: the water in Boka is colder than in the open sea and in the Tivat Bay. Especially near Orahovac - many mountain rivers flow into the water. But this is also a plus - the water here is clean, less salty, and during the entire season we have never encountered rotavirus.

Anna Shipitsina:
Regarding illnesses: for three full seasons, my son has not been sick with anything. We wash our hands, don’t put anything in our mouth (we arrived when he was not even five years old, now he’s eight years old), in the sea - hedgehog slippers, a Panama hat on his head, and protective cream. All medicines are available in pharmacies - if not, then they find analogues. We encountered medicine the year before last - the pulmonologist only tormented my son: either worms or a blood test for antibodies; As a result, I took tests at a private center on the recommendation of our doctor from the Russian Federation. Medicine for tourists is very expensive, the price does not correspond to the quality. Most often, tourists themselves are to blame: they catch the rotavirus, start the course of the disease and immediately end up under IV drips. In five days, the treatment bill can cost 1,000 euros.

Olga Jess:
The most common summer disease is rotavirus. But it can be found absolutely anywhere in the world. Therefore, you need to pay attention to hygiene - thoroughly wash your hands and vegetables/fruits. Children in their first year of life can be vaccinated against rotavirus. Before traveling, be sure to take out medical insurance. I had to call a doctor several times through my insurance. To do this, I simply contacted the insurance company, and they themselves found a Russian-speaking doctor nearby who came to the house even at night. Medicines prescribed by a doctor are also covered by insurance, but only after returning home.

Yulia Antoshina:
If you follow the standard precautions against rotavirus, then everything will be fine: do not swim in pools, watch your child so that he does not take water into his mouth at sea, in restaurants it is better to feed the child with your own cutlery. Well, pay attention to hygiene, wash your hands before eating.

The incidence of rotavirus increases during the season. This is unpleasant, but, as a rule, the disease subsides after a couple of days. Very young children may have a more severe illness because of the risk of dehydration. The main thing here is to drink water in very small portions, but often. Local doctors will always come to the rescue. There is also a risk of sunstroke. Everyone knows the precautions - do not be in the sun after 11:00. Small children should be out of the sun after 10:00. I'm talking about the summer months. And, of course, apply sun cream to prevent sunburn.

When cooking on your own, it is more profitable to buy food in large supermarkets (more expensive in markets). It is best to buy meat and baked goods in “bakers” and in “mesar” butcher shops, which sell semi-finished products (here, at your request, they can fry meat sausages for you).

Montenegro has a lot of fruits, many of which grow on the veranda of every villa. Very tasty figs are especially cheap. It is better to buy fruit on the streets (preferably away from tourist routes).

If you find yourself in gastronomic paradise - in the village of Njegushi (near the town of Cetinje), enjoy to the full the especially delicious smoked pork hams (prust) and aromatic cheeses.

Visa

For short-term trips (if you do not plan to stay in the country for more than 30 days), a visa is not required. As, however, you will not need any other documents, such as a voucher, hotel reservation, invitations. You just need to buy a ticket and go on vacation.

The only thing is that the passport must be valid from the date of expected departure from Montenegro for at least another 3 months.

For visa-free entry, you need to register and obtain temporary registration within 24 hours after arrival (this service is paid). This responsibility is usually carried out by the owners of the villas or managers of the hotels where you will be staying, but you can also do it yourself.

A visa will be required if you decide to vacation for more than 30 days. In this case, to complete it, you will have to collect a standard package of documents confirming your solvency and availability of a place to stay overnight.

No language barrier

In Montenegro, many people understand Russian well and even speak it. You can completely do without translators. Communication is also facilitated by the fact that many words of the Montenegrin language are consonant with Russian and are quite understandable to Russian-speaking tourists.

When to go to Montenegro with children?

The climate on the Adriatic coast is mainly Mediterranean, which means it is quite comfortable for relaxation. Summer is long, dry and hot (up to +30-32°C) with a lot of sunny days. In the central part of Montenegro, it is a little cooler due to the mountains.

If we focus on average indicators: on the coast the air warms up to +27°C and a little more, the water – up to +27°C (especially in the southern resorts of Montenegro). Sometimes the water temperature drops due to cold currents, which makes swimming not entirely comfortable. And you need to wait until it warms up again.

The sea in Montenegro is of an unusual azure blue color, transparent (visibility from 40 to 60 meters) and very clean. This phenomenon is explained by the presence in it of large quantities of dissolved salts and minerals.

You can swim from mid-May to October (in some parts of the country the swimming season opens a little earlier and ends a little later). The water in the Bay of Kotor is a little warmer than on the coast (by the way, the city of Kotor is the hottest in Montenegro).

The best time for a beach holiday is mid and late summer with hot and sunny days. The water at this time in the sea becomes as comfortable as possible.

Here, among the amber pines, whole families have a great time, walking in the cool shade or actively covering adventurous routes. The entire vast expanse of the park, located on Mount Lovcen, is permeated with aerial tracks with a bunch of exciting obstacles, including nets and ladders thrown from tree to tree, swinging logs, bungees and skateboards on a rope, flying “vines” and platforms where you can take a break. And not only children, but their parents and even grandparents have a great time here. Children of different ages test their dexterity and courage among the thickets, overcoming traps and difficulties at different heights, and teenagers can dare to bungee jump. In total, 6 routes of varying degrees of difficulty have been developed - for everyone. The passage of each air trail lasts from 30 to 60 minutes, so it is unlikely that you will get tired here.

The yellow trail with the funny name Koala at a height of 1.5 meters is enthusiastically mastered by children over 5 years old, the blue trail called Cheetah, which runs at a height of six meters, is of undoubted interest for children over 14 years old. There is a green Spider-Man route and the most difficult trails - a red Panther with 17 obstacles and a black one dedicated to the magnificent fast Tarzan. Here adults show miracles of dexterity and self-control at a height of 15 meters.

The air path park is completely safe for children, since special attention is paid to this factor. Professional instructors are present in the playing area constantly, monitoring the movements of children and adult players, checking the serviceability of equipment and equipment, including the mandatory distribution of helmets, carbines and gloves.

Visitors of all ages rush among the trees, enthusiastically indulging in a game of paintball “war”, riding bicycles and ATVs. Kids saddle little ponies galloping merrily around the park, teenagers imagine themselves as Robin Hoods, hitting targets with a bow.

Waterpark Mediteran (Becici)

This is the only amusement park with water in Montenegro and is designed more for school-age children and adults. The coolest attraction for teenagers - the Cyclone - invites them to take a chance, quickly sliding inside a closed pipe, falling with a squeal into a huge “creepy” whirlpool, and plopping down into the pool at full speed. A river flows around the circumference of the park, where children, tired of entertainment, float in peace on “cheesecakes,” sunbathing in the sun and clapping their hands on the water. The area is small, but quite convenient for having fun on the downhill slopes, in the jacuzzi and five swimming pools. There is a place to relax both in the shade and under the sun, and then eat to your heart's content. For preschool children there are two slides and two swimming pools, and ramps for baby strollers. The water park itself is located on the territory of the Mediteran Hotel. How to get there is not a question; you can do it yourself by train or by Mediterrani Express bus, or on your own from neighboring resorts.

Rafting on the Tara River (Zabljak)

In addition to rafting, the excursion includes a round trip with breakfast and a hearty lunch of roast and veal after exploits on the river. The unofficial name of the Tara River is the tear of Europe. The river received this well-deserved name because of its fabulous crystal water with an amazing emerald glow.

You can get to the canyon by car, and although the journey is not long (about 4 hours), the stunning luxury of the landscapes and mountain serpentines do not let you get bored for a minute. Skadar Lake (Skadarsko jezero) and fishing

Almost forty years ago, a new national park was born in Montenegro - the majestic and ancient Lake Skadar, filled with playing fish and feathered inhabitants of coastal and island thickets. In the dark ages of the Middle Ages, in the centers of culture - monasteries and monasteries - persistent Christian monks copied the works of Aristotle and the Venerable Bede in scriptoria. One of the most mysterious monasteries, located on a hill and surrounded by impenetrable swamps, is the 15th-century Kom monastery, in which a single monk lives. And only in dry times can you get to the ancient walls along a narrow path, otherwise - only by boat. In Rijeka Crnojevic, where the old Konak Perjanik restaurant still operates, it's easy to rent a boat and sail around Lake Skadar, touching the cool lilies and watching the many birds that love to settle here. And recently, to the delight of both old and young, another wonderful animal appeared in Lake Skadar, which children adore - a fat hippopotamus, which tenderly loved the blooming lilies and quiet waters.

Bird hunting is prohibited here, but you can go fishing to your heart's content and combine all the pleasures - swimming, walking around the islands, admiring the beauty of the coast, islands, fortresses, watching animals with active fun fishing. Durmitor National Park

The land of Durmitor is a fabulous place, like something out of a Lord of the Rings movie. In Latin, "durmitor" means "sleeping." And this name, undoubtedly, suits ancient glacial lakes, deep and still, flowering sleepy meadows, and dense coniferous forests, where birds are heard loudly and red squirrels jump merrily in the high branches. And the bright colors and fragrance of roses, orchids and white lilies delight the eye. Of the 18 mountain lakes, the most famous are the “black-eyed” Black Lake, shaped like eyes, and Snake Lake. They are easy to reach on your own from tourist Zabljak, or to the toy northern towns - Shavnik, Pljevlja, Mojkovac - surrounded by fields and meadows where curly sheep walk.
