Summer holidays in Latvia with children. To the sea with a child. Lithuania or Latvia? Holidays with children Baltics July August
Lithuania for children
Vilnius is worth spending the whole day there and walking along its old, cozy streets. We will have a magnificent view of the city from the Gediminas Tower. The child will certainly be interested in the local toy museum, where they preserve not only old originals, but also copies that they will be allowed to pick up. After this we will visit the perfectly preserved Trakai Castle on the island, just 31 km from the capital. Yes, by the way, we will be able to sail on a catamaran in the lake around the castle - this will be fun for the kids and new angles for photos. We will visit Aukstai Park.
Day 3-6 - Druskininkai, Dzukija Park
We go to the One adventure park in Druskininkai. There we will find ropeways of varying difficulty - for experienced climbers, for kids. The instructors will carefully monitor our safety. In the city we will look for a water park with a complex of baths and saunas. At the same time, we can arrange a boat excursion along the Nemunas, walk through the Cesnulis Park, or take a bike ride along the routes laid out in the Dzukija National Park. August in these parts will delight children with “Summer Echoes” - a festival of farewell to summer, or a folklore festival of the local Dainava region.
Day 7-9 – Kaunas, Siauliai, Mount of Crosses
A trip to Lithuania for us would not be complete without visiting the main attractions. We will definitely go to Kaunas - we will see the Perkūnas house, numerous churches, an alley with fountains, and see the Devils Museum. After a 15-minute drive from the city, we will find the Rumsiskes Scansen, where we will get acquainted with the life of the Lithuanian village and go to a regularly held festival, fair or folk festival. Afterwards, an equally beloved and well-known tourist attraction of the region is the Mountain of Crosses, near the city of Siauliai.
Day 10-12 – Palanga, Klaipeda
If we feel like going to the sea, we’ll go to Palanga, where the famous pedestrian street turns into a long pier, from where it’s so nice to watch the sunsets. It is also worth visiting the amber museum with a small zoo and botanical garden. The show at the dolphinarium will definitely please both us and the children. From here you can go to Klaipeda to run through the Old Town and see the Maritime Museum, with a dolphinarium and an aquarium. In August there is a chance to attend a good event - the Sea Festival.
Day 13-14 – Curonian Spit
This is a nature reserve, a unique place where you can feed swans, get into a real desert, see dunes, climb a lighthouse, and if you have enough strength, in Juodkrante we will climb the Witches Mountain to many wooden sculptures depicting various fairy-tale characters.
With this, our journey smoothly came to an end. Our summer holiday with children in Lithuania was a complete success. Time to go home!
Due to my pregnancy, the plane flight is canceled and the planned trip to Greece will not take place. And still I want to take my child (7 years old) to the sea. Please recommend a hotel with good children's animation and a heated (or indoor) pool. Do these exist in the Baltic states? Travel time is early July.
I read threads, for example, "Palanga or Jurmala". And I realized that I shouldn’t count on swimming in the sea. That’s why I’m asking for help in choosing a hotel with a pool so that I can still swim. I looked through hotels in both cities, but didn’t find anything suitable. Mostly apartments are offered in small hotels, and the only swimming pool that was discovered is 15 by 7 meters in size. This is still not enough. I couldn’t find any information about children’s holidays at all. Yes, there is a zoo in Riga, and a water park in Jurmala, but what can a child do besides this?
At 7 years old, a child does not require any special fancy entertainment. Toys, sand, sea...
Quote: Not a fact. Under favorable conditions, everything is not so bad. Although water is 20 g. It's considered warm here :)
Quote: Hotel Jurmala spa, Palanga. But they are designed for adults. Emphasis on baths and spa treatments.
Dear Ta-ta, the fact is that the Baltic states offer themselves very ascetically - this is a vacation of the European type - no one entertains you and, God forbid, does not impose anything - I don’t remember their Turkish Khokhloma. Children have a good time at sea. Try to find out www.palangahotel.lt - this is one of the most expensive and elite hotels in Palanga and with a pool, I don’t know, unfortunately, whether it’s heated.
And about swimming - believe me, there is no better hardening for kids than the Baltic Sea - this is a fact. They don't get sick after that.
I was in a similar situation two years ago (pregnancy plus a 6-year-old child). The choice also fell on the Baltic states for the same reasons. But we were then in Estonia, in Haapsalu, at the Fra Mare Hotel. The sea is close, there is a good playground on the beach. The hotel has a small swimming pool with sea water; at that time an outdoor pool was being completed (it’s already been completed now, for sure). Bicycles for rent (the hotel is located in the forest). There is a children's room, but it is more aimed at kids. In the morning you can go for organized exercises....

Speaking of Jurmala - Baltic Beach Hotel (by the sea, in the very center), Hotel Lielupe - there are large indoor pools. Although the sea in the Baltics is certainly not the same as in Turkey, everyone still swims in July..
There are playgrounds for children by the sea, a small amusement park (on Jomas street), an exhibition of vintage cars (if you are a boy, this might be interesting)..
But about the benefits of swimming in the Baltic Sea... I don’t know, I live 10 minutes away. from Jurmala, but every year it becomes more and more sad to go to our sea... Much to our regret... And there is still essentially no infrastructure on the beaches - and this is Europe...
Walking in the dunes and pine + sea air is just the thing!!! I walked there myself during pregnancy.
I consider Riga, the capital of Latvia, to be the most attractive Baltic city for families with children in the summer. Amusement parks, river walks, museums, excursions around the old city and a huge amount of sweets from the world's best confectioners will make the trip unforgettable not only for children, but adults will also really enjoy it.
Amusement parks. Riga is rich in various amusement parks; these are the oldest and most beautiful parks with developed infrastructure, where you will have a wonderful time with your children. One of such parks can be considered the amusement park "Mežakaķis", located in Mezaparks. This place is considered ideal for adventure lovers. The park has 65 obstacles ranging from one to fifteen meters in height, and these obstacles are divided according to the degree of difficulty into 5 separate tracks. The trails also differ in that each of them is designed for children of different ages. A special worker, an instructor, monitors the safety of children; he makes sure that none of the children are harmed and helps the children complete various tasks.
Mezaparks also boasts an amusement park, a zoo and a children's railway. A good way to get to know Riga is to take a ride on the retro tram, which departs from the city center and runs to Mezaparks. At the end of the trip, everyone usually has a picnic on the shore of the lake; for this purpose, a special area is equipped near the lake.
The Lido amusement park is not located in the center of Riga, but a little distant from it. It is also considered one of the most visited children's parks in the city. The park has a children's driving school and a railway, as well as everyone's favorite trampolines, 5D attractions, slides and a variety of jumping ropes.
The Museum of the Sun is one of the unusual museums located in Riga, against the backdrop of the same fine art galleries and
historical museums. There is also a fire-technical museum. Exhibits in the museum are from different countries of the world, in total the collection includes more than 350 figures of the sun, and there is also an exposition of “solar” works of Latvian artisans and artists. The museum is attractive for children due to the presence of a special wall on which each visitor, if desired, can bring his own art and depict the sun.
Riga Motor Museum. This is one of the oldest and largest museums of antique vehicles located in the Baltics. Several collections and unique exhibits are stored here, which have no analogues in the whole world, such as “Rolls - Royce Silver Shadow” and “Lincoln Continental Town Car”, these cars were presented by US President Nixon to Soviet President Brezhnev; or "Auto-Union Typ C/D" German mountain car from 1938.
Fire and Technical Museum. Offers those wishing to learn practical fire extinguishing skills, introduces the history of fire fighting in Latvia, as well as watch documentaries and take part in quizzes.
Chocolate room Laima. Sometimes you can’t drag your child into a museum or on an excursion, but believe me, your child will definitely not refuse to visit this museum. After all, how can you pass by the “chocolate room”, which is located in the museum of the legendary Laima confectionery factory in Riga. Visitors are introduced to the history of the development of confectionery production throughout Latvia, observe the modern processes of making real chocolate, visit production workshops and, of course, taste this work of sweet art.
River walks. A different perspective of Riga can be seen only on a walk along the river, which is carried out on small wooden boats. All are offered on the routes along which the boats ply. Along the Daugava, through the territory of the Central Market, past the island of Kipsala to the yacht harbor on Andrejsala. And there is even a ship that travels all the way to Jurmala, this is the ship New Way.
Livu Waterpark. "Līvu akvaparks" is one of the largest water amusement parks in the Baltics, located half an hour from the center of Riga. Both adults and children will have a lot of pleasant experiences at the water park. Here you can relax and unwind in the sauna complex and enjoy delicious drinks in the water bar, or get a dose of adrenaline while descending through extreme water pipes.
Go Planet entertainment center. Both children and adults will also enjoy active recreation and entertainment in this center. Billiards, go-karting, laser maze, 4D cinema, Formula 1 and horse racing simulators, children's maze with attractions. In general, there is something for everyone to enjoy.
Also, many hotels in Riga in summer offer special programs for families with children and a package of services for families. Opera Hotel & Spa is one of the hotels offering its own program: a special menu in the restaurant, toys in the room, children's SPA treatments, as well as membership in the Children's Club have been developed for children.
