How to carry baggage in Aeroflot: the latest rules. Baggage and Hand Luggage Allowances on Aeroflot Flights New Baggage and Hand Luggage Rules
Air travel is the fastest, most convenient and reliable way of transportation and transportation, allowing a passenger and his luggage to move from one place to another in just a few hours, despite the great distance of these places from each other. However, the specificity of air travel allows the transportation of people only to those airlines and airports that fully comply with generally accepted international standards of security measures.
For the passenger to be given boarding pass, he must strictly comply with the strictest rules of flight, which also includes the carriage of baggage on board the aircraft. This is done for the overall safety of all passengers and the aircraft.
The presented rules are binding on absolutely all passengers, regardless of the purpose, nature of the trip or the prestige of the cabin class in which you are flying.
In other words, this is a set of organizational issues aimed at ensuring the comfort and speed of the flight. And the transportation of luggage is one of the most important organizational moments, which must be taken especially responsibly in order to exclude the occurrence of possible problems.
Carriage of luggage on the plane for 2019
As for the transportation of baggage, it is worth noting the following right away: the rules providing for this process do not have a single world standard, so there are options for them, which are influenced by a number of factors.
First- the country you are flying to, since each state has its own rules and standards. For example, when going to Dubai, in no case should you carry with you (and not only in your luggage, but also with your hand luggage and in your pockets) objects and literature of a religious nature that are not related to Islam.
Second- the choice of airline affects the baggage allowance. In addition, the class of the purchased ticket (for example, economy or business class) and the type of aircraft affect the allowable baggage weight.
In order to avoid unnecessary difficulties and problems during the check-in of baggage, it is necessary to find out all of the above points during the process of purchasing tickets. If you have non-standard baggage, you should find out in advance the rules for its transportation.
The first step is to find out which items and things that you want to take with you can be transported by plane, and which are classified as prohibited.
However, despite the differences in some rules for the carriage of baggage, all airlines have and general baggage rules used in all countries of the world.
General baggage allowance on board an aircraft
1 - first you need to make sure that the suitcases or bags that you will check in for separate places are in good condition and integrity (the absence of various kinds of cuts and slots) in order to exclude damage to the things in them and neighboring luggage during their transportation.
For reliability, you can wrap your luggage in cellophane wrap yourself. The same procedure can be done directly at the airport for a small fee. We recommend doing this! By doing this, you definitely will not stain or tear your suitcase or bag.
2 - each airline has its own rules, which set the weight and size of checked baggage and unchecked ( hand luggage). If you exceed any of the parameters, you will have to pay extra.
3 - you should remember the list of things that are strictly forbidden to be carried on board the aircraft. Not in luggage, not in hand luggage!
What you can not complete your luggage and hand luggage
- Corrosive and caustic substances. These include: all types of alkalis, acids; mercury and devices containing it; rechargeable batteries with liquid cells;
- All kinds and types of gases: flammable and non-flammable, compressed, liquefied, poisonous;
- Objects, solids and liquids that have the ability to ignite, which include: matches, lighters and liquids for refilling them; solvents, paints and other paints and varnishes; substances capable of spontaneous combustion or which emit any gases upon contact with water, as well as other substances and objects prone to ignition;
- Substances that have oxidizing properties, such as peroxides and bleaching powder;
- Any types of explosives, items and products from them, as well as weapons: pistols, rifles, machine guns and other types of small arms, firearms and ammunition for it, including empty shells and detonators; fireworks, flares and similar articles;
- Radioactive substances and objects that emit radiation;
- Toxic, poisonous and infectious substances, which include: herbicides, pesticides, insecticides; laboratory materials and samples containing live viruses; subjects of etiology;
- Suitcases and briefcases equipped with alarm devices.
- precious metals;
- jewelry;
- securities;
- money;
- keys;
- glasses;
- fragile things;
- perishable products.
Leave them at home, or take them with you in hand luggage!
Total baggage weight and carry-on baggage
Things and items that are allowed to be transported directly in the passenger cabin of the aircraft are called hand luggage, which is often transported in small bags.
Naturally, the purpose of these restrictive measures is to ensure an adequate level of safety for the aircraft and its passengers throughout the entire flight.
For this reason, most airlines impose a ban on the carriage in hand luggage of items such as:
- Knives and long scissors (and sometimes even nail scissors);
- corkscrews;
- Knitting needles;
- Needles for injections, including hypodermic, excluding prescribed cases;
- Razors, blades and other piercing and cutting tools and objects.
In addition, there are some restrictions on the carriage of liquids in hand luggage, such as:
- Shampoo;
- Gel;
- Perfume;
- Spray;
- Mascara;
- cream;
- Water, as well as soft drinks.
According to the rules, the listed liquids and substances are allowed to be carried in hand luggage only in small quantities (up to 100 ml) and only in sealed packages (more accurate data is provided by the specific airline that provides you with services). Exceptions include baby food and liquid medicines to be consumed in flight. Exceptions also apply to liquids and goods purchased from duty-free shops ( Duty Free).
As for the weight of luggage and hand luggage, certain limits also apply here. For hand luggage, the weight range ranges from 7 to 15 kg for 1 piece. For luggage, the allowable weight is on average 20–30 kg.
There is also a list of items and things that a passenger has the right to carry with him in the cabin free of charge, even if they exceed the permissible weight limits (20 kg) of unpaid baggage:
- Briefcase or handbag;
- Umbrella;
- Folder for paper;
- Cane;
- Bouquet of flowers;
- Crutches and a wheelchair for the transportation of a passenger with reduced mobility;
- Mobile phone;
- Outerwear and a suit in a suitcase;
- Printed publications for in-flight reading;
- Video camera and camera;
- Laptop;
- Baby cradle for transporting a child.
Items from the list are not marked, weighed and presented for clearance.
Regarding the transportation of non-standard and oversized items, such as musical instruments, sports equipment and others that are not included in any of the lists, you must contact the representatives of the airline in advance.
As can be seen from everything written, baggage is a rather complicated process, and in order to avoid problems, it is better to take care of all the measures and requirements in advance.
If you have any questions, you can ask them in the comments. Please check the details of your flight and luggage: flight direction, amount of luggage, etc. We, in turn, will try to answer everyone as soon as possible.
Dear passengers, the rules of carriage are not written to limit your rights, but to ensure that your flight is safe. Don't ignore them!
And finally. It should be remembered that it is better to arrive at check-in 2 hours before departure in order to ensure a good mood and prevent possible difficulties.
Baggage rules change every year. For example, recently there was a rumor that many carriers (for example, Ryanair or Aeroflot) have tightened them, significantly expanding the dimensions of the luggage carried. In this article, we will try to deal with all the innovations, as well as the reasons that cause them.
Airplanes are considered a very safe mode of transport - but this is no accident. Employees carefully review the bags of people getting into this transport, demanding to remove even nail scissors or extra 100 ml of liquid, as they can be used to harm other passengers or crew. Therefore, do not rush to swear at the inspection of things - it is done for your benefit. Truth.
And besides, the allowable weight of things for one passenger directly affects the maximum take-off weight of the aircraft. It will be unrealistic to calculate it if people begin to carry as much luggage as they want - at least a ton or two. In addition, the more bags people have, the longer the queue for landing will be, because everything needs to be arranged - and passengers already arrive at the airport 2.5 hours before takeoff.
And finally, the restrictive framework that many tourists “love” so much is a guarantee that your hand luggage will fit in the luggage compartment in the cabin and will not stand in the middle of the aisle, forcing the stewardess to stumble (and don’t say that you will carry 5- a kilogram suitcase on your lap all 5 hours of the flight, no one will believe you anyway).
What is baggage anyway?
On a train or bus, this is a bag that you drag in your hands or carry on wheels. On an airplane, things are a little more complicated. Things that the passenger takes with him on the road are divided into three categories:
- personal items (for example, a small handbag or purse with documents, a wallet and other valuables + a warm jacket, a bouquet of flowers, a book or a newspaper);
- hand luggage (a small bag that can be taken into the cabin - a suitcase up to 10 kg will be transported free of charge if it fits in the identification frame when boarding);
- luggage (oversized suitcase that travels in the cargo hold).
The more expensive the ticket, the more things you can take with you and not pay extra for them. In addition to adults, a child under the age of two can have their personal luggage (even if the baby is not sitting in his own seat, but on your lap, a bag weighing up to 10 kg can fly with him, and they will be allowed to take it into the cabin).
Carry-on baggage rules
- Economy class. We have already said that the passenger bag here should not be heavier than 10 kg. But airlines are also attentive to the dimensions of this bag. Her measurements should be no more than 55:40:20 cm. Personal items are not added to this weight and dimensions!
- Business Class. Two suitcases with a total weight of up to 15 kg can be brought here.
- Bagless ticket. Under the new rules, the passenger who bought this ticket can take only 5 kg of hand luggage.
All these things are transported at no extra charge.
By the way, the new Ryanair airline rules strongly recommend that passengers take only a light handbag into the cabin, and send a larger bag, which used to pass according to hand luggage standards, to the cargo hold.
Rules for the transportation of baggage, that is, cargo
Not all bags are accepted into the cargo compartment either.
Since there are no general international free baggage allowances, some airlines have introduced so-called baggage-free tickets. They are cheaper than usual and have become an interesting novelty for business people and even tourists who manage to fly only with hand luggage. And airlines such as Pobeda do not provide free baggage allowance at all (with rare exceptions).
The new rules also state: “baggage” tickets on such planes mean the same 5 kg of hand luggage + 10 kg of cargo (luggage can be more, it depends on the particular airline).
As for most carriers, they accept one bag up to 23 kg (economy class) free of charge. However, before departure, it is better to look at the website of your carrier and check if it has any exceptions.
On top of this, some companies can transport skis, snowboards and similar equipment free of charge.
It is also important to remember that there is an “upper bar” for baggage even for business class. In Russia it is 50 kg, in Europe 32 kg. At the airport, even the porter will refuse to transport such a bag.
Have you exceeded the limit?
Some people do it unintentionally. For example, when traveling in pairs, they take two bags in hand luggage - one for 7 kg, the other for 13. And this is a mistake, since most companies do not welcome dividing the weight of the bags of several passengers by the number of their seats.
The same applies to luggage. Among other things, you cannot put two suitcases into it instead of one ... True, the new Russian rules allow you to transport a huge family suitcase instead of two or three, so choosing a domestic carrier, you can count on such a service.
Overweight or oversized will have to pay extra. Different companies have different requirements for this. For example, Aeroflot, with excess baggage over 23 kg, will require 2,500 rubles (if the bag weighs up to 32 kg) and 5,000 rubles (if it reaches 50 kg). But this is domestic transportation in Russia, for international there are other fines: 125/200 dollars or euros.
Answers to popular questions
- What is excess baggage? A bag that weighs more than your norm seat. Let's say 30 kg with the allowable 23 kg in economy class. You will have to pay extra for extra kilos (however, if the excess is small, some carriers turn a blind eye to this).
- Is it possible to transport something oversized? Let's say a refrigerator, a double bass in a case? Yes, but before that it is better to contact the carrier and clarify everything (luggage compartments in aircraft can be of different sizes). It is advisable to indicate the dimensions of these items when buying a ticket. Also, do not forget that the registration of atypical cargo requires additional time.
- What has changed in the new rules? If earlier they were allowed into all cabins with a bag up to 10 kg, now not all, but many carriers require hand luggage to be lightened up to 5 kg. Together with hand luggage, a laptop and an umbrella are now weighed (this was not done before). In addition, the list of permitted items has been slightly increased (we already wrote about what can and cannot be packed in a suitcase or bag).
There are many myths about hand luggage and luggage. Perhaps you too have heard some and even believe in them. In this interview, an airline employee will clearly explain which of these myths is true and why companies introduce certain bans:
So, an exciting journey awaits you. Tickets have already been bought, thoughts are melting with anticipation of novelty and pleasant pleasures. For thoughts to become reality, you just need to properly prepare for the journey. And you need to start by packing the things that you will need during the trip.
When packing your suitcase, remember that on the way back it is always heavier from purchases and gifts. We remind you that everything you take on the road must be divided into two unequal parts:
- hand luggage
- checked baggage
One will be with you in the cabin and is called hand luggage (or cabin luggage if it is stored in a special cabin locker if you wish). You are responsible for its safety.
And the second will fly with you, but in the luggage compartment of the aircraft and is called checked baggage. The airline is responsible for the safety of this baggage.
Keep in mind that the rules for carrying luggage on an airplane for hand luggage and checked luggage are different. Those. what you can carry with you under the guise of checked baggage may be prohibited for transportation in the cabin. So below are the basic rules for carrying luggage
HAND BAGGAGE - hand luggage on the plane can weigh from 5 to 18 kilograms (depending on the requirements of the carrier's airline, route, fare, ticket). As a rule, hand luggage consists of:
All required documents(passports, business securities, credit cards, vouchers, insurance)
- valuable and fragile things (video cameras, laptops, jewelry, glasses, etc.)
- vital medicines, baby food
-and the rest depends on your tastes and personal life.
Approximate hand luggage size
For the safety and comfort of passengers, hand luggage should not exceed allowable sizes so that it can be stowed under the seat of an airplane seat. Usually these are dimensions 55x40x20 cm.
There are exceptions, for example, Air Astana allows business class passengers to carry hand luggage weighing up to 18 kilograms in the aircraft cabin. And with Lufthansa, first and business class passengers are allowed to take two pieces of hand luggage, and for economy class passengers - one. The allowable dimensions of one piece of hand luggage have been increased to 55x40x23, and the weight should not exceed 23 kilograms.
The main thing that should not be forgotten is that any objects that pose a danger to others, their imitators and models (these are radioactive, poisonous substances, weapons, piercing, cutting and explosive objects) are strictly prohibited in the passenger's hand luggage.
Due to the increasing terrorist attacks, requirements have been tightened and restrictions on liquids have been introduced, even on toilet and cosmetic products (curiously, shaving foam and toothpaste are also classified as liquids). The maximum volume of liquid in any container must not exceed 100 milliliters, and the total amount of liquid per person in hand luggage cannot exceed one liter. In addition, all liquids must be placed in one resealable transparent bag.
And the rest of the liquids exceeding this volume will have to be packed in checked baggage, they will be accepted there without any problems. Baby food, medicines that may be needed during the flight can be packed in a transparent non-sealed bag.
Carrying liquids on an airplane
In addition to the free baggage allowance, you can carry alcohol, cigarettes and perfumes purchased at Duty Free, clothing, flowers, canes, umbrellas, a folded pram, a cradle, a book, a laptop (they are not presented when weighing).
CHECKED BAGGAGE. We figured out the hand luggage, now we will pack the checked luggage. Checked baggage allowances are established by only two systems:
Restriction (norms) on the number of seats and weight
- restriction (norms) by weight
In most cases, there are norms for the number of seats. What does it mean? The passenger has the right to carry free of charge:
in business class - two seats weighing no more than 32 kilograms each
in economy class - one seat, no more than 23 kilograms each
Some companies, in order to attract customers, allow an additional number of pieces of free baggage allowance. For example, on Czech airlines, holders of Gold, Elite Plus cards are entitled to free transportation of one additional piece of baggage, but weighing no more than 23 kilograms.
What should be kept in mind when packing things? The rules for carrying luggage on an airplane state that the weight of the luggage cannot be summed up! If one suitcase is heavier than the norm, and the other is lighter than the permissible norm, but in total they do not exceed the permissible norm, then you still have to pay extra for the excess of the first suitcase. The weight of a suitcase or bag is taken into account when weighing them.
Remember! During transportation, the weight of the luggage is not cumulative.
Weight limit (weight baggage allowance) means that a passenger has the right to carry any number of bags free of charge, but their total weight must be equal to or less than the norm for a given route and class of service. The current weight allowance for a particular route must be found on the ticket or in the fare rules on the airline's website. For example, for Air Astana, the total weight of baggage and hand luggage is not more than thirty kilograms for business class and twenty kilograms for economy class passengers.
What is the size limit for free baggage allowance? According to safety requirements, the maximum size of one piece of packed baggage is established by the sum of three dimensions (length, width, height). As a rule, this is 158 cm. There are also exceptions here - for Utair.ru and S7 Airlines, in terms of dimensions, one piece of packed baggage should not exceed 203 centimeters and weigh 32 kilograms at the comfort class fare.
For wheelchairs, musical instruments, sports equipment that cannot be divided into parts, an exception is made.
Absolutely all airlines have a general rule - excess baggage in terms of weight, quantity, dimensions must be paid at the appropriate rates. Each company has its own rates for paying the excess.
Attention! If you pay extra for overweight - the weight of one piece of checked baggage cannot exceed 50kg!
In addition to the baggage requirements of the carrier's airlines, each specific country has a list of things and products that are restricted or prohibited from being imported into or exported to the country. For example, more than 200 cigarettes cannot be imported into Turkey, and gambling equipment is prohibited from being imported into Israel.
In 2018, the baggage rules and the size of hand luggage on Aeroflot aircraft have changed slightly. In order not to be caught off guard, this new instruction should be thoroughly studied.
Aeroflot in 2018: new baggage rules
Hand luggage is measured by airport employees according to various criteria separately for each person who wants to get on board. Now the dimensions allowed for personal use on board bags have been increased by 5 cm (55x40x25 cm). It is strictly forbidden to take photo or video equipment, portable PCs or even an umbrella into the cabin, but no one forbids carrying small musical equipment.
From February 15, 2018, Aeroflot began to carefully check the size of hand luggage carried on the plane. If the bag does not meet the permitted standards of the measuring calibrator, it is prohibited to take it.
yandex_ad_1 According to the current rules, the check is carried out at check-in, during the process of checking documents and at the entrance / boarding gate, however, the rules may differ at different airports.
Airport employees explain their decision by the fact that users of their company's services complain that their things simply do not have enough space in the cabin. Until February 15, passengers were dissatisfied with the fact that some suitcases and photo bags that fit into the standards regulated by the airline cannot be placed in the measuring frame.
These items will now require you to place them in the luggage compartment. Due to pressure from the airline's consumers on the administration of Aeroflot, the size of hand luggage is now 55x40x25 cm (+ 5 cm).
Approved in February of this year, the standards for transportation and the size of hand luggage met both supporters and opponents among passengers. On the one hand, users of Aeroflot services are satisfied with the fact that now they do not need to pack their small hand luggage among other people's disproportionate bags. On the other hand, some passengers were dissatisfied with the new procedure for carrying personal belongings on the plane.
From 02/26/2018, the size of hand luggage has been increased to 55x40x25 cm, i.e. by 5 cm. These dimensions now fit many medium-sized suitcases.
According to the current instructions, photo / video equipment, netbooks, paper literature and some other items are excluded from the list of those things that can be transported during the flight with you.
However, items that can be included in hand luggage include the following:
any bag not heavier than 5 kg;
one closed bag of food purchased in duty free;
small bouquet;
cereals, mixtures and yoghurts for small children, in an amount that is sufficient for a child during air travel;
jackets, coats, sweatshirts and any other outerwear;
stroller or crib for a child, which is not heavier than 7 kg;
medicines that are necessary to maintain the normal functioning of the health and life of the passenger during the flight, in this case they will ask for an appropriate health certificate;
any devices for passengers with special needs and disabilities (crutches, canes, etc.).
yandex_ad_2 Musicians will be pleased with the following news: now their instruments are considered hand luggage if they do not exceed the standard dimensions. By the way, this does not apply to guitars, because they can be transported even if they do not fit into these dimensions. However, the transport of musical equipment must be agreed with the dispatcher 2 days before departure.
Below we consider the list and dimensions of hand luggage that can be carried on an airplane in 2018. We will find out what new rules are set by Aeroflot.
What counts hand luggage according to Aeroflot standards 2018
According to the internal regulations of Aeroflot, passengers are allowed to carry the following items in the aircraft cabin:
any suitcase or briefcase (up to 5 kg and up to 80 cm in size);
a closed bag with food products from duty free, a sealed suit, a jacket, a mobile stroller for children or the disabled, a bouquet of flowers and medicines to maintain the normal functioning of the health and life of passengers, in the subsequent case, a health certificate must be presented.
Employees check passengers' belongings using a measuring calibrator, in which hand luggage must be determined. If handles, wheels or something else are peeking out of this measuring frame, then this bag will be asked to be transported in the luggage compartment.
include_poll1409
The check is carried out at check-in, during the identification of passengers and before boarding the flight.
Carriage of a bag weighing no more than 5 kg is not paid. In this bag, you can put baby food in unlimited quantities (of course, if the child himself is present), food, including alcohol, from duty free, a bag with clothes or bed linen, a baby or wheelchair, medicines (there must be a typewritten document confirming the need for these medicines for the passenger).
Conditions for carrying amateur photo / video equipment, netbooks and other devices as hand luggage
In October 2017, the administration of Aeroflot Airlines was forced to reduce the list of items that passengers have the right to take with them on board the aircraft free of charge, in addition to hand luggage. This decision was made in accordance with the standards in the amendments to the FAP.
Now photo and video equipment, netbooks and all other devices, with the exception of those that fit in your pocket, fall under these amendments. All other gadgets must be packed or carried as baggage.
Liquids are allowed, but there are certain rules. Containers with mixtures should not be larger than 100 ml. In addition, this vessel will need to be placed in a sealed bag or package 20x20 cm. One passenger - one such package, the only exception is baby food, which can be in unlimited quantities (a prerequisite is the presence of a child). Even despite such scrupulous conditions, the package will still be checked during a formal inspection at the registry.
This rule also includes jam, sun cream, personal care products, cosmetics, food, etc. The above should be contained in a container of no more than 100 ml.
Can I take food on board the plane?
When it comes to solid food, such as sandwiches, vegetables, fruits, baked goods or confectionery, they are allowed on board, but the situation is different with liquid food. It is subject to the liquids rule, i.e. liquid foodstuffs must be transported in containers with a volume of no more than 100 ml. For example, soups, yogurts, milk, etc. Containers with them will need to be sealed in transparent bags, which will be carefully inspected before boarding the flight.
However, this rule does not apply to food for the smallest passengers, it can be carried so much that the child has enough for the entire flight.
The amount of hand luggage that children under two years old are allowed to carry Young passengers in 2018 who fly in the arms of their parents are not allowed to carry hand luggage on Aeroflot aircraft. For children from 2 to 12 years old, who occupy a separate seat on board, standard norms and sizes are provided, as for adult passengers.
Also, you cannot take personal vehicles (gyroscooters, segways, etc.) in hand luggage. They will need to be checked in.
On February 15, 2018, Aeroflot began to strictly check the size, quantity and weight of hand luggage. The hand luggage of all passengers is now not only counted and weighed, but also placed in a calibrator - a measuring frame.
Depending on the airport, they can check several times: at check-in, before passport control and at the boarding gate.
According to the explanations of the airline, this measure was introduced due to complaints from passengers that hand luggage was allowed to pass uncontrollably and there was not enough space for things on board.

What can not be carried in Aeroflot's hand luggage:

How many things can be checked in Aeroflot luggage for free
Aeroflot has a piece baggage system. 1PC or 2PC in the ticket means how many pieces of luggage of a certain weight you can check in. In business class you have two seats - 32 kg each, in "Comfort" and "Economy Premium" - two seats of 23 kg each, in other "Economy" fares - one seat of 23 kg.
The maximum dimensions for free baggage are 158 cm (length, width and height). Anything that doesn't fit is handed over at the excess baggage rate.
Is it possible to sum the weight and size of luggage
If you are traveling with your family, friend or colleague on the same ticket, you can combine the free baggage allowance. That is, the husband and wife have the right to hand over suitcases weighing 20 and 26 kilograms instead of two to 23 kilograms without additional payment, or to distribute the weight in another way. But there is a limitation: each suitcase must be within 32 kg.
For two, 158 + 158 \u003d 316 cm is based on the sum of length, width and height. This means that one bag of 203 cm and the second of 113 cm can be checked in for free in the luggage compartment. A bag larger than 203 cm cannot be shared.
How much does it cost to pay extra for overweight and oversized baggage at the airport
Baggage that is more than the free allowance in terms of the number of pieces, weight and dimensions is rented for an additional fee. On flights within Russia, you will have to pay from 2,500 to 7,500 rubles, depending on what and how much is exceeded. For example, you will pay 2,500 rubles if you keep within 32 kg. Surcharge on international flights - from 50 to 200 euros. Baggage from 32 to 50 kg and more than 203 cm in the sum of three dimensions can be transported only in agreement with the airline.
