Ceska Lipa(Czech Česká Lípa, former German. Bohmisch Leipa) is a city in the Czech Republic, in the Ceska Lipa region of the Liberec region. The city includes 14 microdistricts with a population of 38,181 people.
History of origin
The lands of the modern city were not inhabited for a long time - until the 13th century. The first written mention of a settlement here dates back to 1263.
The history of the city is closely connected with the famous Czech noble family of Ronovic, whose representatives (in particular Jindřich of Lipa) built Lipa Castle here, which became a fortified point on the trade routes of Northern Bohemia. Its construction took place near the old Slavic village of the same name, which was later renamed Staraya Lipa, and even later became part of the city. In 1319, Jindřich of Lipa left the settlement and went to Moravia, selling it to his relative, Gink Berne of Duba (an associate of the Prague burgrave). The castle remained in the hands of the nobles from Duba for many years. Among the significant events, one can note the publication of the oldest city charter, dated March 23, 1381, containing a decree allocating additional powers to the settlement around the castle, giving it the status of a city and its further improvement.
In the first half of the 14th century, protective ramparts and the first church were built (destroyed in a fire in 1341). The development of the city, like all of Bohemia, was stopped by the plague epidemic of 1380.
