children's zoo— Department of the Moscow Zoo, designed for the youngest visitors, will open in Moscow after reconstruction in March-May next year.
The project provides that the smallest visitors will be interested, and the animals will not only feel comfortable, but also have fun. Project architect Bella Filatova said that the main idea of the new concept children's zoo was the creation of an educational environment. “It is important to understand that this is not a menagerie, but an educational environment where both animals and visitors should be comfortable,” B. Filatova said. For example, on the territory of the Children's Zoo, it is planned to create the largest contact zone in Russia with an area of about 1.5 thousand square meters. "There will only be pets in this area that cannot harm visitors."
According to her, grounds for goats, sheep, chickens, geese, rabbits, cows and park fallow deer will be placed in the contact zone. “In addition, new interesting landscape structures for animals will be created, for example, swings, a trampoline and a climbing wall for goats and goats, slides for ducks, ramps and houses for birds and geese,” the architect said. She also said that on the territory of the children's zoo will be placed aviary- a special space for the most comfortable living of birds.
"There are four different routes with different travel times across the territory of the Children's Zoo. However, each of them has contact zones and an interactive environment where children can learn a lot of interesting and useful things about animals in a playful way." The project involves planting new trees, placing cafes and fountains on the territory of the zoo. Recall that the Children's Zoo is part of the Moscow Zoo st. B. Georgian.
The press service of the developer of the zoo, PSO "Kazan", Inkazan said that all monolithic work and the laying of engineering networks have been completed. The Exotarium of the Moscow Zoo contains about 100 species of reef fish from the Pacific, Indian and Atlantic oceans.
In the large reef aquarium of the Exotarium, a variety of coelenterates of the Indo-Malay archipelago are presented. Initially, they were brought into the aquarium in the form of single small specimens, but today, constantly multiplying, coelenterates stuck around all the decorations of the aquarium. Along with corals and anemones, the aquarium contains tridacna and a variety of reef fish, of which anemone fish and pseudanthias should be especially noted.

The area of the Kazan Zoo will soon triple. Visitors will be able to visit this vast territory during the day with a single ticket. The second part of the Zambezi River Zoo will open in August. The correspondent of "Tatar-inform" visited the doors closed for visitors.
Magadascar in the city center
Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin called the new part of the Kazan Zoo "Zambezi River" a real "Magadascar", a piece of Africa in the heart of Kazan.
We were late with the construction deadlines, there were objective and subjective reasons. Here we encountered those things that did not pass. We are the first African zoo in Russia, in our zone. We took on difficult tasks and understood that they would be, but not of such a volume, ”Ilsur Metshin, the mayor, told reporters immediately after walking around the new territory of the zoo.
According to him, African animal species are the most visited in the world. Taking into account the long winter period in our lane, in the course of construction, individual facilities had to be redesigned and redesigned. Construction will be completed in early August. The next stage concerns the acquisition and adaptation of animals.
The construction of the first stage of the project for the renovation and expansion of the Kazan Zoo and Botanical Garden has been underway since 2015. The new territory, called the Zambezi River, is located on the shores of Lake Kaban on an area of 6.7 hectares. Large exotic animals will live here - elephants, giraffes, rhinos, gorillas, chimpanzees. In total, the African exposition will include 34 species of animals.
"Friends of the Zoo" for 114 million rubles
The Kazan zoobotanical garden successfully implements the Friends of the Zoo program. For the first time, animals are purchased with funds donated by caring people.
“It is important that the Friends of the Zoo program has been applied for the first time, which must be continued. Thanks to philanthropists, business structures and simply caring residents, our smaller brothers were purchased for 114 million rubles. We are looking forward to them. Each type of animal has curators, they are strict and demanding, and rightly so. There will be not only a phased delivery, but also a phased launch of each part of the zoo. I won't name specific dates, it's not for us to decide. The Society for the Protection of Animals will decide when this or that part of the zoo will open its doors to visitors,” Metshin explained.
Another 26 percent of the animals in the new collection have signed sales contracts. Their acquisition is expected in September-October of this year. Among them are the legendary marabou and flamingos, griffon vultures, crowned cranes, kaffir crows, Egyptian herons, zebras, cheetahs, lemurs.
“We do all this, first of all, for our residents, for little Kazan citizens, as well as for guests of the capital. But we are still thinking about science. The next stage will be the zoobotanical garden, this is a joint project with KFU. There will be a scientific school here. We are seriously thinking about becoming one of the leading zoos in the world both in terms of the composition of animals and their diversity, and, as they say, in terms of the quality of blood. There will be purebred animals here, which will be of value to the zoos of the world,” the mayor of Kazan emphasized.
Restaurant with viewing platform, mother-child room and gift shop
Public spaces will be organized in the new part of the Kazan Zoo. A cafe and a restaurant, a souvenir shop and much more will open for visitors. This was told by the director of the Kazan Zoo and Botanical Garden Fanis Nurmukhametov.
“There will be public spaces here: a playground for children, a corner for mother and child, where it will be possible to change a baby's diaper, as well as warm food and feed a child. We will have a small dispensary. If one of the children is suddenly injured, it will be possible to bandage him,” he said.
On the territory of the Zambezi River there is also a toilet for people with disabilities. In addition, ramps and signs with inscriptions in Braille will be installed. For young visitors and their parents, playgrounds, a cafe and a restaurant with an open observation deck, a souvenir shop will open.
The inhabitants of the Zambezi River will be monitored by "electroshepherds"
The Zambezi River enclosures are made in African style. Animals will be kept at a safe distance from visitors. The inhabitants of the zoo will be looked after by "electric shepherds".
"Electronic shepherd" is a grid with current, this is not a stun gun. Don't think it kills, it's just 12 volts. For animals, this is enough not to approach the fence. Animals will be pinched a little, and they will not go out of their territory. A water moat has also been dug, special slates, a security system, automatic closing and opening of doors are provided,” the director of the zoo explained.
According to the speaker, such a protection system is absolutely safe for animals. It is widely distributed in the world's leading zoos.
Animals will celebrate housewarming this year
About 70 percent of the inhabitants of the new part of the Zambezi River Kazan Zoo will celebrate housewarming this year. Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin told journalists about this.
Two-thirds of the animals - about 70 percent - will come this year. The next batch will arrive in 2020, and this process will be completed in 2021,” the mayor said.
Fanis Nurmukhametov, director of the Kazan Zoo and Botanical Garden, added that the zoo has now signed an agreement and brought 40 percent of the animals. There are already lions, ostriches, a couple of wildebeest, a hippopotamus, meerkats, hyraxes, dik-diks. Now they live in the enclosures of the old part of the zoo. Another 26-27 percent of the animals will arrive by August-September. One hundred percent filling will be in 2020-2021.
“You have to understand that elephants, gorillas, rhinos, giraffes are a very complex exposition that needs to be coordinated with the curator in order to be brought here. Not all airlines take such animals on board. In early August, we plan to visit our gorilla and chimpanzee curators. We are waiting for them a little with fear, but at the same time with confidence that they will give us a positive result. Still, when designing, we took into account all their comments,” said Nurmukhametov.
Zambezi River to become the first owner of African elephants
Kazan's Zambezi River will become the first owner of African elephants among Russian zoos. An adult male African elephant weighs up to 12 tons. Its Asian counterpart weighs 4-5 tons. The African elephant is three times bigger and heavier.
“There will be unique animals here. For example, there are no African elephants in Russian zoos, but they will be in Kazan. We plan to purchase three female and one male elephants. But these will not be large animals. They will grow for another 15 years, and only then will they be ready to breed,” Nurmukhametov added,” said the director of the zoo.
According to Fanis Nurmukhametov, during the construction there were some unforeseen situations. Initially, they built an aviary for white rhinos, but it so happened that they disappeared in nature.
“The curator suggested that instead of a pair of white rhinos, we deliver five: two males and three females. If we created such conditions, then half of the new territory should have been given only for rhinos. We could not come to such a decision, and we were offered to purchase a pair of black rhinos. They have their own character, more aggressive than whites. It was necessary to redo the enclosure,” said the director of the zoo.
Monkey maze simulator
In the new territory, an unusual round metal structure with intricate ladders attracts attention. It turns out that this is an open enclosure for monkeys. Only it hasn't been framed yet.
“In nature, monkeys look for their own food. In order for our monkeys not to sit idle, they will have to find food on their own. The outdoor enclosure is a kind of labyrinth and a simulator for running monkeys, covered with a net on the outside,” said the director of the zoo.
On the new territory it will be possible to see chimpanzees, gorillas, Brazza monkeys, lemurs. Another interesting fact is that in the new exposition the elephants will be placed in the same enclosure with the hamadryas. 19 hamadryas, the director said, have already been delivered.
Visitors to the new part of the Zambezi River Kazan Zoo will be able to feed exotic animals.
There will be an opportunity to feed and touch some exotic animals. For example, it will be possible to feed lemurs, giraffes, elephants. These are the animals that do not pose a threat. You can only use food purchased at the zoo. It will also be possible to take a photo for memory,” said the director of the zoo.
It should be noted that video surveillance will be conducted around the perimeter of the new territory. In total, more than a hundred video cameras will be installed.
The old greenhouse and the Fuchs House will be restored
After the opening of the Zambezi River, the Kazan Zoo plans to reconstruct the old territory. This was also told to journalists by the director of the Kazan Zoo and Botanical Garden.
“It is planned to reconstruct the old territory of the zoo. This is the greenhouse of 1834 and the Fuchs House - the building of the former administration. We will carry out the restoration of these buildings,” said Fanis Nurmukhametov.
The speaker explained that before closing for reconstruction of the old part, it is necessary to rebuild the economic zone. These are administrative buildings, warehouses, hangars with food for animals and hay, cold stores, a vivarium where mice and rats are bred for feeding. Now all this is in the old territory.
“If you look at all these objects that need to be placed, then we have to give half of the zoo for this. Opposite the zoo there is a territory of "Gorvodzelenkhoz" on the territory and 2.5 hectares. There was talk about our placement there after their base moved,” the speaker noted.
Tickets will rise in price
The cost of tickets to the new part of the Zambezi River Kazan Zoo will be slightly higher than to the current, old part. This was stated to journalists by the director of the Kazan Zoo and Botanical Garden Fanis Nurmukhametov.
“The cost of tickets to the new part will be 250 rubles for adults and 150 rubles for children.
For the preferential category of citizens, tickets will cost 100 rubles. Tickets on the old territory cost 200 rubles for adults, 100 rubles for children and 60 rubles for the preferential category. Children from large families, disabled people of the first group will come to us free of charge,” he said.
The entrances to the new and old parts of the zoo will be separate at first. Visitors will also need to purchase tickets for these parts separately. "The Zambezi River" is the second stage of the reconstruction of the Kazan Zoo and Botanical Garden. At the third stage of reconstruction, it is planned to build a complex of enclosures on the opposite side of Lake Kaban, which will be called the "Amazon River", dedicated to Brazil. The area of each of the three parts of the zoo is 7 hectares. Thus, the total area of the zoo will increase to 21 hectares. World practice shows that such an area is the most optimal for a zoo. Then it will be possible to purchase a single ticket to all three parts.
“In the future there will be a single ticket. When all three parts open, the ticket will rise in price, such is the economy. We can't do it any cheaper. For example, in Nizhny Novgorod a ticket costs 500 rubles and there is a high attendance, while in Izhevsk it costs 250 rubles and the attendance is 625,000,” said Fanis Nurmukhametov.
He also noted that after the reconstruction, the zoo will have three entrances and several exits. Parking is provided for visitors at the new part of the zoo.
Discuss()
The new Kazan zoo may open at the end of 2018. African elephants, rhinos, hippos, giraffes and exotic birds will be waiting for visitors.
The portal site decided to find out what is happening now on the territory of the future Zambezi River, when construction work is completed and it will be possible to look at new animals. And most importantly, when to expect the opening.
The first phase of the new zoo - "Zambezi River" - will be entirely dedicated to Africa. Buildings of future enclosures, cafes and administrative premises are being erected on a plot of 7 hectares. The entrance group is almost completely ready - there are now interior finishing works.
The construction completion date has not been announced, but according to the director of the Zoo and Botanical Garden Fanis Nurmukhametov, they hope that this will happen next summer. Only then will the settlement of the zoo begin. At the same time, birds and animals will need at least four months to adapt. So, if the zoo opens in 2018, then closer to the end of the year.
However, citizens of Kazan can look at some residents of the Zambezi River right now. In the old part of the zoo, a young lioness named Lucy lives in a glass enclosure. She already feels comfortable in Kazan.
She even accepted us into her "pride", - says Svetlana Kurbashkina, head of the "Predatory" department. - Lucy has already begun to recognize us by voice and face. In addition, she is very playful, like all young kittens.
In neighboring enclosures, you can see marabou - a bird from the stork family.
And also a crowned crane. In the wild, they live in the savannas south of the Sahara.
After the Zambezi River is opened, the old part of the zoo will be closed for a large-scale reconstruction. The old enclosures will be demolished, but several historical buildings will be preserved. For example, the wooden house of the founder of the Kazan Zoo and Botanical Garden Karl Fuchs, where a museum will be opened, as well as a greenhouse building. Save the botanical garden.
This part of the zoo will be dedicated to Russia. The territory will be divided into three parts: "Wrangel Island", "Ussuri River" and "Lake Baikal". Accordingly, each of them will be inhabited by representatives of the local flora and fauna.
During the reconstruction, some of the animals - immigrants from Africa - will be relocated to a new territory, the zoo explains. - The rest will be transferred for overexposure to other Russian zoos. For example, polar and brown bears. After the completion of the reconstruction, they will return to us.
The third location will be dedicated to South America. It will be built next to Lake Kaban and Vakhitov Square. Construction dates are not yet known.
The management of the zoo is preparing a lot of surprises for the citizens of Kazan. So, for example, here they are seriously thinking about conducting night excursions. Visitors will be able to see how animals behave at night. A safari park may appear near Kazan in the future.
