What can and cannot be taken on a plane? Why you can't take water on a plane How much water can you carry to the airport
We have compiled complete and up-to-date list what you can and cannot take on a plane - as in hand luggage as well as in luggage. Plus a separate item about drugs.
Many travelers, going on vacation or home, do not know what they can take on a plane, and worry about how the customs officers would not force them to throw out things they took with them or bought as a gift. To prevent this from happening, follow these simple rules:
- learn the rules import / export of items into / out of the country so that there are no problems with law enforcement agencies (for example, corals cannot be exported from Egypt and a number of other countries unless they are bought in a store);
- check before flying airline baggage and carry-on baggage rules which you are flying - each company may have individual rules (usually a bag weighing from 5 to 10 kg is allowed in hand luggage);
- if you are afraid of overweight and do not want to pay extra for luggage, weigh your bag first on the scales or find a measuring stand at the airport;
- remember that many airlines allow you to carry in hand luggage such things as an umbrella, a cane, crutches, equipment, a stroller, outerwear, etc. - this will help you with excess weight (check with your airline for a list of things);
- check most of your luggage, and take only the essentials on board the aircraft - so you do not have to fight with your neighbors for a place for luggage in the cabin;
- do not put valuable and fragile things (documents and equipment) in your luggage - it happens that luggage is lost, and fragile things break. It is better to put the appropriate Fragile marking on fragile things (although in Russia they often do not pay attention to this and do not stand on ceremony with luggage).
What not to take on a plane
1. Liquids, gels, aerosols
Everyone knows (and it scares many) about the restrictions on carrying liquids, gels, creams and aerosols in hand luggage. Restrictions apply to: water, drinks, pastes (including toothpastes), creams, oils, perfumes, lotions, sprays, gels, pressure cans (including deodorants), mascara and other substances. You should not be afraid: the transportation of these substances is allowed, but subject to certain conditions.
The main thing to remember is the volume one liquid containers should not exceed 100 ml. All this should ideally be packed in a special transparent plastic bag with a special zipper. no more than 1 liter. Indeed, why would you need, for example, a 250 ml shower gel in the cabin of an aircraft? So think carefully about what you bring on board. If you still need the notorious shower gel, it’s easier to put it in your luggage and not bother. Also remember that each passenger has the right to have only one such bag as hand luggage.
Remember that a bottle of, for example, 200 ml, filled only a quarter, will be considered as 200 ml.
If you already have an open bottle of drink (whether it's water or yogurt), it will be taken away. It is better to buy drinks after inspection - in duty free. The purchase must be packed in a branded package and sealed.
The exception is baby food and medicines.
Where is it calm and safe? Look - we compared countries in terms of natural disasters, wars and terrorism, peacefulness and attitude towards tourists.

2. Any piercing and cutting objects
You can’t take needles, corkscrews, knives, scissors, knitting needles, penknives, etc. on the plane. It’s better to put all this in your luggage so as not to buy it at your destination. Even seemingly innocent things like a nail file and nail scissors can arouse the suspicion of the security service.
3. Weapons and imitation weapons
We think that this point will not surprise anyone - for security reasons, no one will let you on board an aircraft with a weapon. In addition, if you bought a toy gun for your child and he does not want to part with it for the duration of the flight, alas, there will be problems. You will not be allowed into the cabin with an imitation of a weapon - you will either have to check it in your luggage or throw it away. I witnessed how the water gun was taken away from the child at customs and thrown away.
4. Alcohol
Alcohol is allowed to be transported only in baggage (export and import of alcoholic products depend on the countries where you depart from and where you arrive). The exception is alcohol purchased in duty free or on board an aircraft.
5. Other items
Before the flight, we advise you to refer to the official website of your airline and the legislation of the country you are flying to, and see what you cannot take on board the aircraft exactly according to their rules - this may be due to quarantine or some events in the country. For example, in Russia in the winter-spring of 2014, absolutely all liquids were prohibited from being carried in hand luggage due to the terrorist threat during the Olympics held in Sochi.

What to take on a plane
Here I will list those items that can not only be taken on board an airplane in hand luggage, but also necessary - they may be useful to you, help pass the time, or taking them with you will be safer than putting them in luggage.
First, it's worth taking all the electronic gadgets that you have on the plane to make sure everything is safe and sound. In addition, if you have to spend a lot of time in flight, they will brighten up your flight hours: you can watch a movie on a laptop, listen to music in the player, read on a tablet, and take a picture of the view from the window.
2. Documents and money
Of course, documents and money are another important point that should not be forgotten. Imagine what would happen if they were left in luggage that was lost? Therefore, you need to take money and documents with you into the cabin of the aircraft and keep it with you. Yes, and without the main documents (for example, a passport), you will not be able to go through border control and will not be allowed to luggage.
3. Warm clothes
It is worth taking a jacket or a light jacket, socks, trousers on the plane - whatever you need more. By the end of a nine-hour air-conditioned flight, you will be dazed, because airplanes sometimes don’t have enough blankets for everyone. Fortunately, recently this has become a rarity, but for those who are constantly cold, this advice is relevant :)

Read detailed instructions on what medicines you need to take on the road:.
Take the minimum set of vital medicines - for allergies, if any, for motion sickness, light painkillers (analgesics) and antipyretics. Especially if you are sick - a remedy for a cold, for example, or a cough. Read below to find out what medications you can take on a plane.
5. Wet wipes
Wet wipes are definitely worth taking on a plane. Suddenly you drop a piece of fatty food on yourself? And if you are flying with a child, then this is the first thing to take. In addition, with the help of them you can disinfect your hands before eating or just "wash" without getting up from your seat - to refresh the skin of your face, neck and hands.
6. Inflatable pillow
If the flight is long, it will help to avoid pain in the neck and provide a comfortable sleep.
7. food
You can take food on the plane! Some people don’t get enough of what they get on planes, or they don’t like the food, or they just oversleep their meals (this is especially true on long night flights), or they have a long layover, and everything is very expensive at the airport ... Reasons for which it is worth taking food on the plane, a lot.
If you are flying with a low-cost airline, remember that you will not be fed for free. It is better to take food on the plane that is not prohibited for import into the country you are flying (often animal products are prohibited).

What medicines can I take on a plane
What medications can you take on a plane? We think this question worries many passengers who have heard about the severity of the screening procedure.
So, you can take liquid medicines (sprays, drops, syrups) with a volume of no more than 100 ml and packed in a transparent plastic bag with a zipper with a volume of no more than 1 liter in hand luggage on an airplane. That is, drops in the nose - no problem. With pills, things are a little more complicated.
If you are flying abroad, strong drugs (with psychotropic and narcotic components) must be declared, present prescriptions for English language or the language of the country of arrival and receipts from the pharmacy.
What is a powerful drug? These are strong painkillers, sleeping pills, psychotropic drugs, drugs for weight control and appetite suppression. In general, it is better to consult with the consulate of the country of arrival in advance about which drugs cannot be imported into the country, since drugs that are freely sold in Russia may be banned in other countries.
It is desirable that the medicines be in their original packaging with instructions.
What medicines can I take on a plane: antipyretics, adsorbents, analgesics, sprays and drops from the common cold, antiallergenic, motion sickness remedies, bandages, plaster, iodine and brilliant green in a pencil.
Naturally, if you take large doses of medicines with you into the cabin, this will arouse suspicion and you will have to prove to customs officers that you need exactly this amount of medicine for the duration of the flight, and show the doctor's prescription.

What is forbidden to take on a plane
Well, and, of course, those things that are strictly forbidden to take on a plane (you can’t take it in hand luggage or carry it in luggage) include:
- magnetized substances;
- explosives;
- weapons and ammunition;
- poisonous and toxic substances;
- flammable liquids;
- flammable solids;
- radioactive materials;
- compressed and liquefied gases;
- toxic substances;
- caustic and corrosive substances;
- oxidizing agents and organic peroxides.
This concludes the recommendations of what can and cannot be taken on a plane. If you have oversized and non-standard baggage, animals and other exceptional cases, please contact the airline representatives - they will always help you.

Aircraft passengers are often faced with the situation when, before boarding the liner, during the inspection process, drinking water and other drinks intended to quench their thirst are confiscated from them. But not everyone knows that this is done for the safety of air travel. There is a worldwide legal regulation, according to which it is forbidden to bring your own drinking drinks on board. The same document regulates the rules for the carriage of any other liquids. To understand whether it is possible to take water on an airplane in hand luggage, you should understand the reasons for such legislative decisions.
How much water can you take in hand luggage
Any airline has clear rules regarding the carriage of liquids on board an aircraft in hand luggage. These rules also apply to the transport of water. To avoid unpleasant situations, you need to know three important points:
- On board the liner it is allowed to carry liquids in containers with a volume of not more than 100 ml. The total volume should not exceed 1 liter. That is, theoretically, you can carry 10 bottles of water with a volume of 100 ml without violating the rules.
- It is forbidden to carry your drinks and food on board the airliner in any way (in your purse, hand luggage, in your hands).
- Water and other liquids (even alcohol) purchased in the duty-free zone (Duty Free) can be carried in hand luggage, provided that the integrity of the package is preserved. The rules of paragraph 1 and weight restrictions do not apply to such products (you can take on board, for example, mineral water in a 1.5-liter bottle).
Products that were allowed to be carried in hand luggage must be packed in an appropriate way: a tightly closed container must be placed in a transparent plastic bag with a zipper. You can put all the containers allowed for transportation in a common package (but not more than 10 pieces).
Important! During the inspection, security officers have the right to check what you are carrying. Therefore, access to liquids must be free.
During the screening, the airport employee will definitely ask you to get rid of the open bottles that you have in your hands, or the excess volume of liquids if the allowed rate is exceeded. For example, if a perfume was found in your purse, the volume of the bottle of which is 150 ml, your arguments that there is less than half will not convince the examiners to let you through. The bottle will have to be thrown away, even if there are 70 or 50 ml of perfume left in it. If you have a bottle of water in your hands, you will have to throw it into the bin during the inspection, or drink it on the spot.
An exception is provided only for passengers with children. They are allowed to bring baby food and drinks into the salon. The law does not regulate what is included in these concepts, therefore, in practice, parents of babies freely carry drinks, cookies, and chocolates with them. The amount allowed is determined by the airport staff at their discretion. It is clear that you are unlikely to be allowed to take two one and a half liter bottles, but 2-3 bottles of 0.5 each can be carried calmly.
Why you can't take water on a plane
Strict restrictions on the transport of liquids were established in 2006 after the capture of a group of terrorists who tried to stage a large-scale terrorist attack using liquid bombs. According to members of the security services, then it was planned to blow up about 20 aircraft.
Water is the ideal solvent. Therefore, in liquid form, attackers can transport poisonous substances, flammable solutions, and various reagents for creating explosives. To make a full-fledged bomb, more than 1 liter of liquid is required. That is why the current rules have been established.
According to intelligence agencies, explosives made from water with a volume of less than 1 liter are not capable of causing a large-scale fire. Modern aircraft are equipped with fire-fighting equipment, including fire extinguishers, which can quite quickly help to eliminate local fires in a timely manner.
Is it possible to carry water in the luggage of the plane
There are no clauses in the requirements of airlines prohibiting the transport of water as baggage, and there are also no restrictions on its volume. If you do not ask the question of the appropriateness of this action, it can be assumed that you can carry water in your luggage in an amount that meets the established weight standards. If the airline has a weight limit for one piece of baggage of 23 kg, then so much liquid can be carried. The question "why carry 23 kg" remains open.
But you can find reasons for carrying a small amount of water in your luggage. For example, a person decided to bring local medicinal mineral water to foreign relatives. Or a passenger on a transit flight with a transfer does not want to spend money on buying a drink at the airport, since prices there can be very high, or he simply will not have the right currency.
Thus, the ban on carrying water on board the aircraft is related to flight safety issues, and not the intention of local merchants at the airport or duty free zone to cash in on passengers, as many assume. There is no need to bring drinks with you on board, as drinks are offered without fail, even if meals are not provided during the flight. No one forbids bringing a bottle with you to the airport, but you cannot carry it on board the aircraft. Therefore, when planning a flight by plane, calculate the time of connections and expectations, and make sure that thirst does not overtake you at the most unexpected moment.
Fees and preparations for the flight involve packing the things of the tourist. At the same time, it is important to decide what items will have to be carried in the luggage department, and what can be carried on board. Here the traveler takes into account the maximum allowable weight for each piece of luggage and excludes objects prohibited for transportation from the planned list. For beginners who are not familiar with these rules, we will clarify what is forbidden to take on the liner.
In luggage, airline employees define suitcases that weigh up to 23 kg. Moreover, the total size of the sides of such bags does not exceed 2,030 mm. For excess, you will have to make an additional payment according to the current airline tariffs. However, most low-cost airlines and some fare packages of major carriers exclude free luggage space. Therefore, we will consider in more detail the question of what can be carried in hand luggage on an airplane.
This category of luggage is regulated by a separate section of the carrier's regulations. Here, the maximum dimensions of the bag are 55X40X20 with an aspect ratio of length: width: height. The total measurement indicator is limited by the figure of 1 meter 15 centimeters. In addition, airlines impose restrictions on the weight of such luggage. Major domestic carriers like " Aeroflot" and " S7»allow packages with a weight of 10 kg on board, and foreign airlines - up to 15. The average maximum weight for other airlines ranges from 6-8 kilograms.
The appearance of the packaging of things does not play a role for the air carrier. However, it is advisable for passengers to take into account that airport employees will add mobile suitcase rollers to the overall dimensions. Experienced tourists recommend taking backpacks on board - due to the side straps, such a bag can be slightly reduced in size. In addition, this item is practical and easy to transport.
Considering that for economy class passengers, airlines allocate the only place for things in the cabin of the liner, it is appropriate for the traveler to responsibly pack a suitcase. After all, a pre-flight check involves a strict inspection of the contents of the bag. If prohibited items are identified, the passenger will have to check in the item in luggage or refuse to travel - after all, in such situations, the carrier has the right to refuse to fly. Therefore, we will clarify that you cannot take it in hand luggage on an airplane. New airline rules today expanded the list of such items.
Illegal Items
The answer to the question of what cannot be carried in hand luggage will be an extensive list of items. When packing, keep in mind that you will have to give up the idea of carrying poisonous, radioactive or chemical compounds and substances that can easily ignite on an airplane. The carriage of explosive solid and liquid objects and oxidizing substances is strictly prohibited. In addition, sharp objects, cold and firearms or their imitations will not be allowed into the salon. This list includes even toys that repeat the appearance of a knife or machine gun.
These categories of items will not be allowed on board the aircraft and in the luggage compartment by airline employees. An exception in such situations are piercing-cutting objects and weapons. It is permissible to carry such things in luggage upon presentation to the airline employees of the necessary permits and permits. Moreover, it will be necessary to inform about such objects long before the departure of the board.
Let us clarify in more detail what you cannot take on a plane with you in hand luggage, because the general definition is uninformative and often misleads beginners. Therefore, we will consider the nuances of the issues of transportation of piercing and cutting objects. Trivial household trifles fall into this category - a corkscrew, manicure accessories, medical equipment. For transportation in the cabin, security staff will not allow knitting needles, hooks and straight razors.
Although there are some exceptions here. Polymer nail files with rounded edges or a razor with a set of replaceable hidden blades will not fall under the described restrictions. However, it is advisable to remember that all flights, especially flights that are subject to high level hazards, airport officials check very carefully. Therefore, do not be too lazy to clarify in advance on the website or at the airline office what you cannot take with you on board the aircraft. Such actions will save time and finances - after all, if an illegal object is detected, the passenger is forced to transfer it to luggage or leave it at the airport. Failure to comply with the requirements of a security officer is fraught with the exclusion of the client from the flight.
Innovations in transportation regulations
Recently, the rules for the transport of items on liners have been updated with several categories of illegal items in flight. We have already listed these groups in general terms, now let's look at what things are at risk of being on the banned list. Let's start with volatile combustibles. The list includes C2H5 compounds, gasoline, paint and varnish products, and printer cartridges. The security service includes solvents, some alcohol-containing personal hygiene products, infusions and essential oils in this category.
The group of explosive objects includes all aggregate states of substances. Saltpeter, compounds of nitroglycol and nitroglycerin, hexogen will not be allowed on the plane. Among the isotopic substances is some medical equipment for diagnostics. Give up the idea of transporting such things if radioactive chemical elements are indicated in the composition.
In addition, mixtures that support the combustion of other substances are now illegal. This list includes hydroperoxide (hydrogen peroxide), fertilizers containing ammonium nitrate and nitrite, bleaching and detergents, and stain removers.
Poisonous compounds also fell into the group of things prohibited for transportation by air. Here are all the drugs that provoke poisoning of the body, penetrating through the skin and organs of the respiratory apparatus. The list includes chlorine, formaldehyde, household chemicals, air fresheners, mercury. In addition, it is advisable for the passenger to think about refusing to transport bacteriological hazardous substances.
Step towards customers
Given the wide list of prohibited items, many of which involve trivial household objects, carriers have made exceptions to the lists of illegal substances. Today, the airline's client will be able to take food vinegar on the road, provided that it is packaged in accordance with the rules for transporting liquids. But the volume of this substance is halved and is 500 ml. In addition, it is permissible to carry alcohol with an alcohol content of not more than 70%. Here, the transport regulations correspond to the requirements for the packaging of liquid substances.
Customers will bring nail polish, face cleaning spray up to half a liter, and lighters. In addition, airlines allow you to take on board one mercury thermometer or another thermometer of the passenger's choice. However, such nuances will have to be clarified with a particular carrier. After all, airlines practice different security policies and the lists of such positions here differ even among domestic airlines.
Restrictions for transporting things
In addition to the list of prohibited items, airlines practice setting restrictions on the transportation of luggage. This group includes liquids and medicines. We will figure out whether it is possible to take water and medicines necessary on the flight. As for medicines, here passengers carry only permitted items. If the medicine is classified as illegal on board, the airline's client provides Security Service employees with a document certified by the doctor's seal about the vital need to carry a specific drug with them.
A separate code of practice has been developed for the transport of liquids and pasty products. Passengers take water or juice on the liner within strictly limited limits. The requirements govern the transportation of one person up to a liter of liquid. Moreover, this volume will have to be packaged in several containers, the capacity of which is 100 ml. Similar rules apply to the transport of jelly-like substances.
Airline customers legally transport drinking water, alcohol from Duty Free, soft drinks, medical and decorative cosmetics, which are not included in the list of items prohibited for transportation. Moreover, the employees of the carrier company monitor the passenger's compliance with the rules of transportation. The nominal capacity of the container is important here, not exceeding the allowable values.
Baby food is considered a separate category here - after all, such airline products are classified as liquids. The packaging standards are preserved here, however, the total volume increases if the child needs more food during the flight. However, these rules only apply when traveling with an infant. The absence of a child on board or traveling with an infant over two years of age cancels the privileges described..
For flights with infants under two years old, the carrier removes restrictions on the transport of baby food
When asked why it is impossible to carry liquid on the plane, the carriers say that there are cases when, under the guise of drinks, passengers carried explosives onto the liner. Therefore, for safety reasons, airlines minimize the likelihood of an accidental or deliberate explosion on board during flight. Similar demands appeared after a series of terrorist attacks in the air.
The procedure for passing the test
Check-in for a flight involves the passage of a passenger customs inspection and security control. The contents of the bags are subject to scrutiny at the airport. When prohibited objects are identified, an airport employee draws up an act of discovery and confiscates an illegal object from the client. If the item is available for free sale, the product is left at the airport until the passenger returns.
Restrictions on the transport of liquids and a ban on certain categories of substances help to increase the safety of passengers during the flight
If an illegally transported weapon or component parts is detected in the luggage, the security officer documents the find and contacts law enforcement officers. Such situations are fraught for the client with removal from the route and threaten with liability before the law. Therefore, follow the rules and do not try to outsmart the experienced employees of the airport terminal.
As you can see, adhering to the rules of the airlines, the traveler will not experience problems when checking in luggage. To minimize the likelihood of unpleasant situations, it is appropriate to familiarize yourself with the requirements of the carrier in advance and clarify the points you are interested in.

Guide: baggage allowance and carry-on baggage of 10 popular airlines
Air carriers, in particular, low-cost airlines now and then tighten the requirements for hand luggage and baggage, forcing passengers to pay more. So that you do not get lost in the stream of constant updates of the rules, we have collected in one material the rules of ten popular airlines, the knowledge of which will allow you to save tens or even hundreds of euros.
Important nuances
- Check the rules of all airlines you will use during your trip and make sure that your hand luggage and luggage comply with the more restrictive rules.
- Please note that you can buy tickets from and fly from. This happens when a code-sharing agreement is signed between companies. In this case, the rules of the airline whose code is indicated on the ticket apply. It is useless to prove at the airport that you did not know - you will have to pay for an excess or additional baggage.
- Many airlines check the dimensions of hand luggage using special devices at the airport. Everything that does not fit in the frame will have to be checked in as luggage (especially zealous ones take into account even handles that look out half a centimeter). We recommend that you check your hand luggage in advance - luggage is cheaper at the check-in counter than at the gate, it's even better to foresee this situation when buying tickets online.
- Important! Low-cost airlines do not have flights with transfers. Each segment of the route is a separate flight, so every time you need to pick up your luggage and check it in again, therefore, you also need to pay extra for it on each segment.

Liquids in hand luggage. Is it possible or not?
In total, you are allowed to carry 1 liter of liquids in containers with a maximum of 100 milliliters each. The volume of the container matters: a two-liter bottle, in which two sips of juice are left, will not be missed. All liquids must be placed in a transparent ziplock bag (such as a ziplock bag to freeze fruit or a cosmetic bag) and presented to security screening if asked.
Liquids include:
- roller deodorants;
- shaving foam, shampoo, shower gel;
- toothpaste;
- perfumes and toilet water;
- tonic, makeup remover, cream, mascara;
- alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks;
- medicines: eye, nasal and ear drops, oral solutions and tinctures, topical products, gels;
- some foodstuffs: soft cheese, yogurt, pate, jam, honey, etc.
- Travelers with children under two years of age. Food for the child (mashed potatoes, milk, juices, formula, etc.) can be in packages of any volume in the amount necessary for the duration of the flight.
- Those who need to take medication regularly. In this case, you can take with you drugs in packages that exceed 100 milliliters, but do not forget to grab a certificate from your doctor.
What about duty free shopping?
Perfume, toilet water, alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks from duty-free shops can be taken on board if they are packed with a receipt and sealed (do not try to drink whiskey down your throat on the plane).
Difficulties may arise if you are flying with a transfer. So, in the EU it is forbidden to import liquids in containers whose volume exceeds 100 milliliters if they are purchased outside the EU. That is, if you fly from Kharkov to Prague via Warsaw, at the transfer point, a bottle of wine from Ukrainian duty free is most likely to be confiscated. For those who travel within the EU, it is enough not to open the package and carry a receipt confirming that the purchase was made no more than a day ago. The last word in any case remains with the airport employee.
Can I carry food in hand luggage?
Yes, but if they are liquid, they will need to be packaged in 100 milliliters and packaged in accordance with the rules. Feel free to bring cookies, chocolate, apples, nuts or sandwiches with you on board, but make sure that your food does not emit pungent odors.
Can I take electronic devices on a plane?
Need! You've seen how suitcases are handled at airports, right?
You are allowed to carry in hand luggage:
- laptops;
- mobile phones;
- tablets and e-books;
- e-cigarettes;
- cameras;
- hair dryers, curling irons, hair straighteners;
- electric shavers;
- electric toothbrushes;
- power banks.

What is prohibited in hand luggage?
In short, everything that is potentially dangerous for passengers and crew members due to its toxicity or can be used to attack.
- liquids in containers with a volume of more than 100 milliliters (except those bought in duty free and properly packaged);
- aerosols (hairspray, deodorant, mosquito repellent, etc.);
- piercing and cutting objects: screwdrivers, drills, nails, corkscrew, sewing needles, blades, all kinds of knives, scissors, nail files, tweezers with sharp ends, knitting needles, etc. There are exceptions: sometimes it is allowed to carry a knife with a blade shorter than 6 centimeters or tweezers with rounded edges, if you have a certificate from a doctor, you can take injection syringes with you. But you need to be prepared for the worst-case scenario: if the thing is dear to you, put it in your luggage or leave it at home.
- firearms and any of its imitations (lighters, children's toys);
- adhesive tape, electrical tape;
- explosive and flammable substances: gunpowder, firecrackers, fireworks, lighter fluid, etc.;
- mercury thermometers (in some countries this restriction does not apply, but it is better to buy an electronic one and not worry);
- skates, ski and trekking poles;
- stun guns;
- caustic and toxic substances: acids, alkalis, poisons;
- bats, clubs, clubs, nunchucks, oars, skateboards, fishing rods;
- gas and petrol lighters.
Can animals be brought on board?
Each airline has its own rules, so it's best to ask them in advance. For example, UIA allows only dogs and cats weighing up to 8 kilograms to be transported in the cabin together with the container. Larger animals are transported in the luggage compartment. Service animals fly free of charge (for example, guide dogs), for other pets you will have to pay at a special rate. The owner must have a medical certificate, documents confirming vaccination and an export permit.
How to transport musical instruments and sports equipment?
Sports equipment is usually transported in checked baggage or as oversized cargo, at a special rate (if we are talking about skis or snowboards, for example). Even a skateboard or tennis rackets will not be allowed on board, as theoretically they can be used as weapons.
Small musical instruments that do not exceed allowable dimensions hand luggage (flute, violin), some airlines allow you to take it with you into the cabin. Everything else will have to be checked in.

How to properly pack hand luggage and what to do in case of overweight?
- Put things that you will most likely have to get at security control (a laptop and other powerful equipment, a bag of liquids) on top, so that you can quickly remove them later. Neighbors in turn and airport staff will thank you.
- Liquids must be packaged in containers with a maximum of 100 milliliters, remember? If what you want to take with you is not sold in mini-packages, pour over - the bubbles do not have to be “native”.
- If you are taking medicines with you, it is better that they are in their original packaging with instructions inside. If you have sleeping pills, strong painkillers, psychotropic and injectable drugs, do not forget to take a prescription from your doctor with you.
- Put everything of value in your hand luggage: documents, money, jewelry, equipment. And don't forget to keep an eye on your backpack at the airport, of course.
- You should always take with you a power bank, warm clothes, medicines that you constantly take and a light snack in case of a flight delay.
- Make sure you don't accidentally put anything on the prohibited items list. The author of these lines, for example, somehow threw scotch tape into her backpack, and then blushed and justified herself in front of the vigilant employees of the Kutaisi airport.
- If you are flying with a low-cost airline, do not stuff your backpack to the limit. Leaving an empty space inside, you can tamp it down a bit and fit it into a frame with which to check the dimensions.
- Weigh the assembled backpack or suitcase at home and make sure it passes the airline's regulations. If the excess was found already at the airport, you can put on something from the clothes packed in your hand luggage, put heavy small items in your pockets, or pick up a camera, e-book, etc., if the carrier allows it.

During pre-flight screening, passengers on flights often ask why airport officials do not allow drinking water and other beverages to be brought on board the aircraft. In addition, they are interested in whether it is possible to carry other liquid substances: open perfume bottles, open liquid jam, cosmetic face tonics, and the like.
People often resent these restrictions. However, you need to know that all these bans are not caused by the whims of the airlines, but by a serious concern for the safety of people.
Transportation of liquid substances and water in an aircraft in the countries of the European Union was banned in 2006. This happened after the British police thwarted an attempt by terrorists to blow up several planes with the help of so-called liquid bombs. They were disguised as soft drinks. The combustibles in the bombs were mixed and ignited remotely. For an explosion, even a small amount of a chemical is enough - about 1 liter.
After this incident, the rules of flight in airlines changed - the amount of liquid that can be taken in hand luggage was reduced. Russia signed the relevant agreement in July 2007.
hand luggage
On the website of any airline, you can read the rules for the carriage of hand luggage, a special place in them is given to the carriage of water. Passengers often need water in emergency cases, for example, to take a pill, to reduce nausea during the flight. In such situations, flight attendants will provide water.
In order not to encounter difficulties during the inspection before boarding the plane, you need to consider a few basic rules:
- Drinking water can be carried on the plane, but in a small container with a volume of no more than 100 ml. The amount of liquid per person should not exceed one liter in total. Therefore, the transport of 10 sealed bottles of water with a volume of 100 ml will not be considered a violation. Containers with a large volume are not allowed on board, even if they are not completely filled.
- You can not take your drinks and food in your hand luggage, except for the water specified in the first paragraph.
- Drinking water and other beverages purchased from a duty-free shop are allowed in hand luggage without any particular strict restriction. The main thing is that the integrity of the package is not violated.
- Regarding the liquid form of medicines, the same volume restriction applies: no more than 100 ml per package. Additionally, a certificate from a doctor is required on the need to take if the medicine contains a narcotic component. The medicine must be in its original packaging with an indication of the composition.
- Transportation of baby food is carried out according to special standards. For a child under 2 years old, you can take on the plane as many jars of food as he needs for the entire duration of the flight, without restrictions. Powdered formulas are not categorized as liquids, and baby food is considered a personal item.
All liquids in hand luggage must be collected in a transparent plastic bag with a zipper. Do not forget: the total volume of liquids should not exceed 1 liter in total. Please note that airline liquids include not only water, but also creams, medicines, perfumes, toothpaste and dairy products. Everything must be tightly packed in a transparent bag and prepared for inspection.
Baggage
Requirements for the carriage of liquids in baggage are limited only by the weight of baggage per person. That is, you can safely put a bottle of water with a volume of one and a half liters or alcohol in your suitcase. So that the liquid does not spill into the suitcase and does not stain the things of other passengers, you need to pack it hermetically.
Before leaving, check the customs regulations of the country you are traveling to. Not everywhere is allowed the import of alcoholic products.
duty free
Liquids purchased from Duty Free are not subject to the above restrictions. They have passed the appropriate test and are packed in branded packages. Here you can buy drinking water in a 1.5 liter bottle or alcoholic drinks, and safely carry them on the plane in your hand luggage. The main thing is that the integrity of the packaging is not violated for the goods, and there is a corresponding check. Goods from Duty Free go in excess of the allowable allowance for hand luggage.
The reason for the restriction on the transport of water is an additional security measure, but you should not worry about it. Flight attendants will definitely offer passengers drinks during the flight, even during short flights. You can take a bottle of water to the airport, but drink it before the screening before boarding. Do not forget to study the rules of a particular airline regarding baggage and hand luggage, then the flight will be successful and the rest comfortable.
