We decided to give bb Rosalinde a try because it was so highly rated. We found that even with all grains of salt it was oustanding and flawless and matched exactly its description. Toughest thing is to get vacancy there. If we have the choice, we will never stay anywhere else when in Vienna. But Rosalinde has limited capacity and seems to be booked most of the time. Shows that high value for money pays off.

So, your dream has come true - you have finally visited the beautiful Vienna, and perhaps even moved to the capital of Austria for a longer period. And even if in the morning there is only enough time for a hastily drunk cup of coffee, the Austrians’ love for leisurely, varied, and sometimes very late breakfasts will not go unnoticed by you.
In any Austrian city you will find cafes famous for their breakfasts. There are many such establishments in Vienna, and they all tirelessly come up with new ideas for breakfast, delighting visitors with culinary diversity.
Today we will introduce you to five establishments in Vienna where you can enjoy excellent breakfasts.
1.Joseph
The founder of the Joseph Bakery, Joseph Weghaupt, together with Helmut Gragger, revived the “bread culture” in Vienna. This is where customers are willing to stand in a long line for bread, the price of which is sometimes five times higher than usual! Inspired by the success and love of his customers, Josef Weghaupt opened a bistro at Landstraßer Hauptstraße 4 (Vienna).
This is where we invite you to have breakfast and taste the famous Joseph bakery bread. On weekdays, breakfast is served from 8 to 11 am, on holidays and weekends - until 15 o'clock.
The atmosphere of the bistro is somewhat reminiscent of station cafes. The focus here, let’s say, is not the form, but the content - the culinary component for Josef Weghaupt is more important than interior chic.
For breakfast, you can enjoy delicacies such as homemade apricot jam from the Wachau Valley, flower cream honey from Gernot Gangl, butter from Christopher Hefer, rye honey-lavender bread, spruce honeydew honey from Roland Berger or organic free-range eggs walking
Good to know: non-smoking bistro, reservations required on weekends, coffee served with lactose-free milk upon request, vegan food available.

2. Ströck-Feierabend
It seems that Landstraßer Hauptstraße is gradually becoming the number one address when it comes to exclusive bakeries and delicious breakfasts. Following Joseph, Christoph Ströck opened his own establishment on this street. Breakfast is only offered on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays from 7 am. Breakfast at Ströck is famous for its variety. Particular attention is paid to the origin of products, their seasonality and quality. Here, chefs know a thousand and one recipes for preparing egg dishes - from simple soft-boiled eggs to various omelettes. If you're watching your weight, try a healthy Salmon Breakfast or Vegan Breakfast with Speckled Bean and Quinoa Salad, Grilled Tofu and Hummus.
Coffee is also available with lactose-free milk.
Our assessment: quality food, cozy atmosphere, friendly staff - a great combination!

3. Cafemima
Cafemima is on the market Karmelitermarkt in Vienna. Breakfast is served here from Monday to Friday from 8:30 to 12 o'clock, and on Saturdays - all day long. The cafe attracts with its decoration: colorful pillows, Buddha figurines and fresh flowers will lift your spirits even on a cloudy day. There are quite a lot of tables on the street terrace (in the so-called Schanigarten), but in sunny weather they are usually occupied. If you decide to have breakfast at Cafemima on Saturday, be sure to reserve a table on time.
Cafemima offers a variety of breakfast options to choose from. “Breakfast mima,” for example, consists of a black French loaf, goat cheese with sesame breading, yogurt with mint and honey, seasonal vegetables, butter and spring onions.

4. Meierei im Stadtpark
The first thing you smell when you enter Meierei is the smell of cheese. And it is not at all accidental, because in translation from German the word “Meierei” means “dairy farming”. Here guests can taste and purchase more than 100 varieties of cheese! It is not surprising that the luxurious breakfasts at Meierei include dairy products - various cheeses, yoghurts, strudel with curd filling, cottage cheese with herbs.
All breakfast items are served simultaneously on small plates, so guests may have trouble selecting the correct cutlery. Breakfast Gabel Frühstück with beef tartare and bread from the Joseph bakery we already know is served in three stages with short pauses. This should be kept in mind when ordering different breakfasts.
Of all the establishments described here, breakfast at Meierei is perhaps the most expensive. It's best to visit here on weekends. This breakfast can completely replace a full lunch. Breakfast is served from Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., and on weekends from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Good to know: non-smoking establishment, you should reserve a table for breakfast on the weekend, there is a changing table and a special mini-toilet for little guests.

5. Breakfast under the palm trees at Palmenhaus
Amazing glass architecture, pleasant atmosphere, central location in the heart of the city and delicious breakfasts. The Palmenhaus Orangery was built in 1822 and is still considered an architectural gem of this era. The building was used for recreation and events even in Kaiser times, and today the Palmenhaus is very popular among Viennese residents and visitors to the city. The building with a total area of 2050 m2 has enough space not only for a restaurant, but also for a “butterfly house” ( Schmetterlingshaus).
Here, next to the famous Albertina Museum, in warm weather you can have breakfast on one of the city's largest terraces overlooking the Burggarten park ( Burggarten).
Polite and at the same time unobtrusive waiters quickly serve guests: ladies drinking prosecco, tourists, families with children and businessmen. The classic Palmenhaus breakfast includes ham, cheeses, prosciutto, egg dishes and crispy rolls. Even the jam here is homemade! It is worth noting that for egg dishes, only organic eggs from free-range chickens are used.
You can have breakfast at Palmenhaus from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., choosing a ready-made menu or creating your own individual breakfast, complementing it with aromatic coffee, freshly squeezed juices, tea or cocoa. Prices at Palmenhaus are above average, and this is perhaps the only drawback of this wonderful establishment.
Good to know: Dogs allowed, stroller space available, newspapers and magazines available.

Breakfast: Mon. – Sun. from 10:00 to 13:00 hours.
Vienna is a city where you can have a tasty, inexpensive meal in many places. Even in the area around the Ring - the ring, the center of Vienna.
You can save a lot on food; in Vienna, food can be purchased at regular markets, as well as in supermarkets of the Billa chain. Here you can buy a bun with sausage for 1 euro, prepared on site. For this amount you can also buy inexpensive beer. If you decide to spend money, then for 3 euros you can buy a kebab, inexpensive pizza, good wine, or just a few buns and beer. It is better not to go to Meinl, since they mainly sell expensive delicacies. If you want typical Viennese food, pay your attention to the local Würstelstand kiosks that sell hot sausages and sausages. Usually, a motley crowd crowds around these kiosks until late in the evening.
I think the best inexpensive place is Albertina, located on Hoher Markt, on the corner with Goethegasse (U1, U2, U4 Karlsplatz, opening hours Mon-Sun 8.00-2.00). The selection includes Bratwürst fried sausages, liverwurst (Tirolerwürst and Leberkäse), and red pepper sausages (Debreziner). The meat appetizer comes with a Semmel bun, sweet (süss) or spicy (scharf) mustard (Senf), and pickled cucumbers, peppers and similar vegetables and delicacies of your choice. Well, what would it be without beer, if you’re lucky, even from a barrel.
You can get a good dinner by visiting ethnic restaurants in markets, for example at Nashmarket, which are mainly located outside the city center. The main location is around Franz Josef Station (9th district), and they are also located in Brigittenau (21st district, which is west of Leopoldstadt). In addition to the suggested options, there are many university canteens and several cheap eateries.
For example Akakiko. At addresses:
U4 Hietzing, 877 02 43, 13., Am Platz 3.
U1, U3 Stephansplatz, 513 79 46, 1., Singerstrasse 4.
There is also a network of inexpensive establishments and Japanese eateries, similar to the local Russian "Yakitoria", only cheaper. There are set lunches and noodles, and of course sushi. The main audience of these establishments is young people. From Monday to Sunday they are open from 10:30 to midnight.
The popular pizzeria Da Bizi is located at U1, U3 Stephansplatz, 513 37 05, 1., Rotenturmstrasse 4, near St. Stephen's Cathedral. There is self-service here, pizza will be prepared according to your order. Drinks: beer, wine, juices; also a salad bar and some other cheap dishes. The audience and atmosphere are similar to that in the student canteen. Opening hours: Monday to Sunday from 11 am to 11:30 pm.
There is a wine and beer cellar, Esterhazy-Keller, which was founded back in 1683. The prices are reasonable, they mainly serve cold appetizers and... beer, a lot of beer. Accordingly, the audience is similar, with an alcoholic mood. Address: U1, U3 Stephansplatz, 533 34 82, 1., Haarhof 1. Opening hours: Monday to Thursday from 11 pm to 11 pm, and from Friday to Sunday from pm to 11 pm. The cost of dishes is 5-6.4 euros, beer is about 3 euros.
Traditional Viennese cuisine can be enjoyed at an affordable price in the dense network of self-service restaurants Naschmarkt. There is also a selection of Italian pasta and Asian dishes. Address: U2 Schottentor, 533 51 86, 1, Schottengasse 1. A set lunch will cost 6-6.5 euros.
A salad bar, freshly squeezed juices, wine and desserts await you at Rosenberger Markt - the buffet for tourists is huge and decent. At the address Tram. 1, 2, D, J, U1, U2, U4 Karlsplatz, 512 34 58, 1., Meysedergasse 2. Opening hours: Monday to Sunday from 7:30 to 23:00.
Trzesniewski. Address: U1, U3 Stephansplatz, 512 32 91, 1., Dorotheergasse 1. Opening hours: Monday to Friday from 8:30 to 19:30, Saturday from 9:00 to 17:00. Dinner will cost 7-8 euros; unlike previous establishments, you cannot pay with credit cards here. The choice of dishes is decent, canapés on black bread cost 0.8 euros, all drinks, including champagne, cost 2.9 euros per glass. You can get a decent meal for about 8 euros. There are few seats, so most likely you will have to eat standing. The crowd is decent, the bulk of it being the bourgeoisie from the surrounding business districts. Opening hours: Monday to Friday from 08:30 to 19:30, Saturday from 9:00 to 17:00.
The large food factory Zum Bettelstudent with a terrace is located on Köptnerstrasse, the street translation reads “Poor student”, and the crowd there is similar. U1, U3 Stephansplatz, 513 20 44, 1., Johannesgasse 12. Opening hours: Monday from 10:00 to 2:00, from Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 3:00. A set lunch will cost 5-7 euros.

Visit the Three Palaces - Hofburg/Treasury of the Habsburgs/, Schonbrun/chose to visit 40 rooms - the best choice/, Belvedere/upper - Gustav Klimt, originals, incl. Kiss!/. Vienna Opera - opera always has taste and color, but everyone knows this one :) Standing places are actually sitting, just not on a chair, but simply on special steps at the top behind the chairs - 4 euros, there are English subtitles everywhere. If you visit the UN, you will have a specific time as part of a group and take your passport with you. Bratislava - QBB / Russian Railways / sells a round trip ticket for 16 euros, plus free public transport in Bratislava + description of places directly in the QBB booklet. You can watch it all in one day. Prater amusement park - I wouldn’t go there, it’s far from Disneyland, just a simple amusement park. Public transport - travel card from Monday to Sunday 16 euros unlimited - a wonderful thing / I'm talking about transport /, use it all the time.

It is better to travel by taxi, as there are no parking spaces. While we were registering in Gothel, our car was taken to a fine area, we stood at the sign near Gothel, as taxi drivers occupied all the places. At first they thought the car had been stolen and were terribly scared because all the things were left there. The taxi driver reassured us, said that a tow truck had taken her away and offered to take her. The fee amounted to 370 euros. No amount of persuasion to reduce it helped. Although we stood at the walls of Gothel and settled in it. Vienna itself is a beautiful and wonderful city. Travel by public transport or taxi, it will be cheaper

Vienna in winter
Probably in summer the impression of Vienna will be brighter and more beautiful. Parks, fountains, flowers that you can only imagine in February. Unfortunately, we didn’t see any snow either. And yet. The city greeted us friendly. We reached the hotel by S7 and metro. Very comfortably. You can take one and a ticket and go straight from the airport to the hotel, fortunately the station is next to the hotel. The metro is laid out clearly and conveniently. The biggest impression of the city was a visit to Schönbrunn, although we were there on a rainy day. But despite this, we went to the zoo, I advise everyone. By the way, I agree with the general opinion that the apple strudel in Schönbrunn’s cafe is the most delicious in Vienna. From the point of view of souvenirs, I was pleased with the shopping gallery opposite the Hundertwasser house. The resellers of tickets to the opera and concerts in Schönbrunn were a little upset, it was very reminiscent of the situation here - they didn’t know how to get rid of it. We were unlucky with the excursion to the opera - we weren’t allowed to go behind the stage, because... Preparations were underway for the Viennese ball. But the overall impression of the city is wonderful, I want to come and just take a walk.

Viennese Waltz.
Next time I would like to visit this city in the warm season. I really liked the city center, the narrow cozy streets. Be sure to use the yellow bus for tourists immediately upon arrival - you get the opportunity to get useful information in connection with the location about museums, shops, etc. We preferred to eat in Austrian cafes with regional cuisine. A very tasty chain of fish eateries with painted fish. I highly recommend trying the local beer. The city is very developed ground transport. And there are a lot of Austrians who know or are learning Russian!!! It was very pleasant and surprising for me.
There is probably not a single traveler who would not sooner or later visit Vienna (Wien) at least as part of a one-day trip. In my opinion, it’s worth devoting at least 6-7 days to the Austrian capital to see the city’s attractions, visit at least some of the museums, stroll through the palace complexes and parks, and, of course, spend some time shopping.
Vienna, among other things, is a major transport hub in the eastern part of Austria, so it can also be used as a base point for trips to the surrounding area - cities such as Baden, Krems, Stein an der Donau, Tulln, Klosterneuburg, Melk, St. Pölten, Neulenbach. And if you consider that you can fly to Vienna relatively inexpensively, then you can consider Vienna as a starting point for creating more complex routes. This could be, for example, based in Vienna and travel to the cities of neighboring countries (from Vienna to Bratislava about an hour’s drive, to Budapest - a couple of hours, and to Sopron about 40 minutes), or circular routes with transfers across the lands of Austria and Germany , as well as across the territory of Slovenia, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary or even Italy and Switzerland.
Which district of Vienna is best to stay in?
Vienna is arranged as follows.
The Old Town (also known as the 1st district according to the local administrative division, also known as the Inner City, or simply the City Center, as hotel booking sites like to call it) is surrounded by Vienna's boulevard ring - the Ring. Here, with a few exceptions, the bulk of the attractions are located, so living inside the Ring is extremely convenient - everything is within easy reach. But housing prices (hotels, apartments, etc.) here are the highest in the city.
Behind the Ring, there are areas built in the 19th and 20th centuries; these are mostly majestic, stylish buildings, where it is also pleasant to live: the center is within walking distance, transport infrastructure is present, and prices in these areas are lower than in the Old Town. These areas, in turn, are limited by another ring, which is called Gürtel, along which the main Viennese train stations are located.
In general, it’s worth choosing a hotel near one of Vienna’s train stations if you intend to travel every day from Vienna around the surrounding area or even to neighboring countries. For example, from the Westbahnhof station (the metro station of the same name) trains depart to France, Switzerland, Germany, Hungary, other Western Europe, as well as in the direction of Linz, Salzburg, Innsbruck. Any combination of hotels is also possible, which makes sense if your trip is intended for a long period - from a week or more. Let's say, while you are seeing Viennese sights, you live in the center (inside the Ring), when you start traveling around the area, you move to the area of one or another station, saving time and money on travel.
From the outlying areas beyond the second ring, it is worth considering the Schönbrunn-Meidling district.
Of the more or less central districts of Vienna, in my opinion, perhaps only the Prater is not worth considering at all; walking along it at night is sometimes unsafe, despite all the efforts of the city authorities to improve it.
In addition, at the end of this article I will add a few words about and about.
Hotels in the center of Vienna
If you came to Vienna to see numerous sights and visit museums, and do not plan any special trips (the maximum is a visit to Baden, which can be reached by tram coming from the Opera), then you should consider the area inside the Ring for living. This area is usually called Inner city(Inner Stadt)(the corresponding list of hotels can be found). The main advantage of the local hotels is their strategic location in the city center, within walking distance from the bulk of attractions (perhaps the only place where it takes quite a long time to walk and it is better to use the metro is the Schönbrunn Palace complex). Inside the Ring there are also a large number of shops, including Billa supermarkets (one of them is located directly opposite St. Stephen's Cathedral), there are also pastry shops, cafes, restaurants and fast food. It is this part of the city that is most beautifully decorated for Christmas and Easter, and it is pleasant and safe to walk here at any time of the year or day.
The disadvantages of Inner City hotels include their high cost compared to other areas of Vienna (prices for a double room with breakfast can start from 120–150 euros and end around 300, 600 and even 800 euros), and the general congestion of tourist crowds throughout the center - however, if your windows face the courtyard, or you don’t open them at all, then this problem will not affect you, and a large number of people at breakfast and a lack of seats at tables is usually solved by getting up early. If you definitely want to live with a view of St. Stephen’s Cathedral, then you will also have to put up with the ringing of the cathedral bells and the noise that is created here by both tourists and numerous carriages drawn by numerous horses.
You should pay special attention to hotels, apartments and boarding houses located in ancient buildings and find out in advance (including from tourists’ reviews) all the important issues for you - from the size of the room, the degree of deterioration of the furniture, the presence of an elevator, air conditioning (in summer), heating system (in winter) until the local Internet is operational, the availability of Russian-language channels, room service and other issues that concern you.
Among the hotels located in the very center of Vienna, it is worth paying attention to, for example, DO&CO Hotel Vienna, Austria Trend Hotel Europa Wien, Hotel Kaiserin Elisabeth and Hotel König von Ungarn. Slightly cheaper hotels include the family-run City Pension or Hotel Royal, located in a building next door to the cathedral (its rooftop breakfast restaurant, Settimo Cielo, and some rooms have views of the cathedral and its patterned roof).
In addition to the high cost of “fives” in the center, the disadvantages include the desire of taxi drivers to profit from you: taxis standing at the entrance to any hotel of this level will cost a couple of times more than those hired, for example, by phone (the logic is understandable: if If you can afford to pay for a room in a luxury hotel, you can easily afford 10–15 extra euros for a taxi). The advantages, in addition to the very fact of living in such a place, include a high level of service (for example, tickets to the same Opera can be bought by simply contacting the receptionist).
A nice place, in my opinion, is a couple of blocks away near Vienna City Park(Stadtpark). This is a real green oasis in the city center, where it is pleasant to take evening walks or jog in the morning. In addition, the park is decorated with many monuments and is a Viennese landmark in itself. Therefore, if you want to live in the center and at the same time close to the park, then you should pay attention to hotels such as Palais Coburg, Hotel Am Parkring, InterContinental Wien, Vienna Marriott Hotel. The advantages of this area are spectacular historical buildings (one of which you will live in if you decide to stay here), the already mentioned park and, if you're lucky, beautiful views of the Old Town (when booking a hotel, you should choose the upper floors). Since it is the center, all attractions are still within walking distance. Possible disadvantages include rather high prices (the area is considered prestigious) and a relatively undeveloped infrastructure - there are few supermarkets here, and in search of cafes, restaurants and shops you will have to go either to the cathedral or to the Mitte Landstrasse station on the other side of the park. However, in both cases the walk will take 5–10 minutes, which is not very burdensome.
Actually, Mitte-Landstrasse(Wien Mitte/Landstraße) It is not only a hub station for two Vienna metro lines, but also a station for S-Bahn and regional trains, as well as the terminus of the City Airport Train (CAT), an Aeroexpress service from Vienna Airport. Above the platforms and ticket offices there are quite a large number of shops, there is a cafe, a drogeria, so it is worth considering this area for accommodation as it is quite convenient in terms of logistics and infrastructure, especially if you have heavy luggage or if you plan to see some of the surrounding Austrian capital and also don’t want to spend a lot of time on the road to/from the airport. The Ring is a stone's throw from here, the city park is nearby, the cathedral is a 12-15 minute walk, and about the same to the Hundertwasser house. Possible disadvantages include some noisiness of the local streets, since the traffic here is active. Therefore, it is worth checking in advance exactly where the windows of the rooms face and asking for a higher floor or a view of the courtyard (and, in extreme cases, stock up on earplugs). Of the hotels in this part of the city, I can recommend paying attention to the Hilton Vienna.
In the northern part of the Inner City closer to Danube Canal(Donaukanal) There is a nice area, from where it’s about 8-10 minutes to St. Stephen’s Cathedral, and it’s a good walk – nice, uncrowded streets. This area of Vienna has a lot of nutritional establishments, ranging from typical Austrian inns to kebabs and Chinese restaurants. Plus supermarkets that are hidden on the first floors of buildings in the depths of the block. Nice hotels in this area include Hotel Capricorno, Hotel Kärntnerhof, Alma Boutique-Hotel, Hotel Austria – Wien or a representative of the famous European chain of apart-hotels Adagio Vienna City (I’ll tell you about apartments in Vienna below). However, here it is worth considering the following: if the windows of your room overlook the Danube Canal, it may be somewhat noisy due to the festivals that take place here in the summer, however, strictly at 11 pm all the fun stops.
Hotels near the Hundertwasser House
Beyond the Ring in the eastern part of Vienna, the Danube Canal bends in a loop, forming a rather unique area, the center of which can be considered the famous Hundertwasser house(Hundertwasserhaus) and its nearby brother of the same authorship, but much less popular. This is a real residential area, where you can meet an old lady in a hat with a poodle on a leash, or old people on a bench in the park. There are few tourists here, with the exception of the notorious house, and therefore you don’t want to rush anywhere and race to photograph something. Meanwhile, there is something to photograph, since everything here is built up with houses that are extremely interesting from an architectural point of view, and in some of these houses there are hotels where the rooms have high ceilings, and you may come across a wide grand staircase with wrought iron railings. The local hotels can be divided into 3 categories: 1) located on the banks of the Danube Canal, 2) located in the depths of the quarter and 3) located near the Hundertwasser house.
Hotels and apartments (for example, Kunsthaus Apartments or Hotel Urania), what do they cost? on the bank of the canal, more convenient in terms of transport: there is a city bus along the embankment sightseeing bus, there are several tram stops, from where the Vienna tram (an attraction in itself) takes you 5 minutes to the Ring or Prater, and a 10-minute walk to Mitte-Landstrasse station (see above). There is good infrastructure here: there are supermarkets and restaurants, but it is somewhat noisy, even if you keep the windows closed.
Hotels located in the immediate vicinity of the Hundertwasser house(for example, Ruby Sofie Hotel Vienna), in my opinion, do not have any special advantages other than proximity, but they have higher prices than their neighbors in the block.
Hotels and apartments deep in the area(say, Gartenhotel Gabriel City), are more distant from the city center, but the same cathedral is only about 10 minutes away by metro, and prices here are significantly lower than in the Inner City.
Hotels in Belvedere
To the southeast of the Ring, almost immediately behind it, is located palace and park complex Gazebo(Belvedere). Its undoubted advantages are its proximity to the center (10 minutes walk to the Ring and the same to the Opera) and transport services (trams actively run around the area; on one side of the palace there is the Rennweg railway station, from where you can get directly to Vienna Airport, on the other side – Wien HBF central train station). In addition, there are many nice nutritional establishments in the area (at the entrance to the palace there is an old brewery with traditional cuisine), as well as an Orthodox church and the Russian Embassy within walking distance. Among hotels and apartments, you should pay attention to Gasser Apartments, NH Wien Belvedere, Austria Trend Hotel Savoyen Vienna and Daniel Vienna.
Hotels near Karlskirche and Naschmarkt
Hotels near the Museum Quarter
If the main purpose of your visit to Vienna is to visit museums, then it may be worth staying in close proximity to Museum Quarter(MuseumsQuartier). From here it is close to the Hofburg Palace, the cathedral is a 10-minute walk, trams run to the Westbahnhof station, and the famous shopping street Mariahilferstrasse is a 15-minute walk away. There is also public parking in the Museum Quarter, which is convenient for those traveling by car. This area is considered a fashionable place and recently a fairly large number of designer hotels have opened here, which certainly have a spa center. The disadvantages of the area include street noise, but if the hotel has good sound insulation and air conditioning, then you won’t have to deal with it. Hotel Sans Souci Wien, for example, opened in December 2012; In addition to designer interiors, it also offers a full range of services (even parking is provided by the hotel staff) and a wonderful spa center. Hotel Savoy Garni, decorated in traditional Viennese style, is located on a quiet street, but at the same time close to the metro and shops. Located in the artists' quarter Spittelberg, some rooms offer beautiful views of the Hofburg and include a kettle with tea and coffee making facilities. The Hotel ViennArt am Museumsquartier is decorated with contemporary art.
Hotels near Vienna City Hall
Near Town Halls(Rathaus) and its surroundings are also interesting to live in, especially if on your last visit to Vienna you stayed at the other end of the Ring: you can look at all the sights with a fresh look, without losing the convenience of the location. From this area to the cathedral it’s a 10-12 minute walk, and some attractions are right next door. There are a sufficient number of cafes and restaurants nearby with reasonable prices. Among the hotels in this area, I can recommend taking a closer look at Hotel de France Wien, The Levante Parliament – A Design Hotel, Hotel Alpha Wien and Hotel Rathaus – Wein & Design.
Hotels in the Schönbrunn area
A nice place to stay in Vienna, in my opinion, is area Maidling(Meidling), located near palace Schönbrunn(Schönbrunn)- southwest of Ring. It makes sense to stay here if you are not coming to Vienna for the first time, have already visited all the museums that aroused your interest, and want to live in a traditional Viennese neighborhood, taking daily leisurely walks through Schönbrunn Park. It is also important to take into account that while the Vienna central railway station is being built (it has already been partially put into operation, but work on it will be carried out until 2014 inclusive, and maybe longer), some trains arrive at the Wien Meidling station, located just in this area, so if you are arriving in Vienna, say, from the Czech Republic or Poland (or intend to visit Prague from Vienna), then there is a reason to settle somewhere nearby. In addition, buses to the airport depart from the same station. The hotels here are mostly located on quiet streets within walking distance of the palace park (for example, Seminarhotel Springer Schlößl). There are also apartments with a fully equipped kitchen, for example, Apartment24 - Schönbrunn, and there are also representatives of large hotel chains - in particular, Courtyard by Marriott Wien Schönbrunn. Hotels in this part of the city quite often offer free parking (you should check this point when booking). The area has good infrastructure (cafes, restaurants, Spar supermarket), and if you want something special, the center is only 2-3 metro stops away. The main advantage of the area, without a doubt, is the Schönbrunn Palace with a huge park, where you can easily spend a couple of days: one to visit the palace with a carriage museum and walk through the park, the second to an impressive zoo full of all kinds of animals.
Renting apartments in Vienna
Alternatively, you can book apartments for your stay in Vienna, of which more and more have been rented out in the city center lately. Cooking products can be purchased in the same Billa supermarkets (you can check the availability of a supermarket in a particular area of any Austrian city on the chain’s website), and this will allow you to save a significant amount, especially if you arrived in Vienna with your family or company and you, to Moreover, children are not accustomed to eat everything without whims. It is especially convenient that many apartments have not only a kitchenette, but also a washing machine and dishwasher. Some apartments are not a room with a kitchenette, but a real Viennese apartment, which, from my point of view, only adds to the advantages of these options. True, it is worth taking into account various nuances, for example, whether the heating is regulated (in winter) and whether the apartment has air conditioning (in summer). Considering that transport connection Vienna has beautiful things, both above-ground and underground, and the Viennese capital is not that big; you can choose to live in more remote areas than the Ring. Nice options include Adagio Vienna City, Appartement-Hotel an der Riemergasse, Vienna-apartment-one Schmidgasse and Singerstrasse 21/25 Apartments. In addition, I indicated some good apartment accommodation options above, describing the areas of Vienna.
Features of accommodation in Vienna
In conclusion, I will mention some features of Viennese hotels. First of all, this cost of living in hotels and apartments. Vienna does not pamper tourists with low housing prices, and you have to put up with this. Even guesthouses on the outskirts of the city can cost 50–60 euros, and the closer to the center and the more prestigious the area, the more expensive the hotels.
The high season in Vienna is Christmas and the period from April to October, so if you don’t mind slushy weather and the main thing for you is to see the city, then You can save money by visiting Vienna in winter. In addition, every hotel chain and even specific hotels have inexplicable price spikes. This is especially noticeable if you play with dates in booking systems - if you move the date by a couple of days, the price of your favorite apartment/hotel is reduced by half. What this is connected with, I never understood during all my visits to Vienna. In order to save money, you can choose from areas further away from the Ring, but you shouldn’t go to hell either, considering that transportation costs can eat up all your savings.
Parking is tight in Vienna: as in many other tourist cities, there is a catastrophic lack of space, and searching for parking in the center (especially on weekdays) can easily ruin your vacation. Therefore, it makes sense to rent a car only if you plan to travel from Vienna (in this case, as an option, you can consider living not in Vienna itself, but in the cities closest to it, for example, in Wiener Neustadt). If you absolutely cannot do without a car, you should at least consider whether the hotel has its own parking (and how much it will cost), and perhaps even try (by correspondence with the hotel) to find out whether it is possible to reserve a parking space in advance ( which is extremely rarely allowed). But there are no problems with parking bicycles, and many hotels are equipped with appropriate parking lots.
