What to see on your own in Ayia Napa. What to see in Ayia Napa, Cyprus Where to go to Ayia Napa
Ayia Napa is a resort focused more on beach and club holidays, but it also has its own attractions. There are few of them in the city itself, but they abound in them, as does the entire island of Cyprus. We will travel around the resort some more, but now we invite you to walk around this tourist town and see all the sights of Ayia Napa. It won’t be difficult to navigate here, especially since you have this guide to Ayia Napa in your hands. There is one straight avenue, Nissi, that runs through the city, and wherever you enter from, you will find yourself on this avenue. In the east, the avenue intersects with another main street, Archbishop Makarios (Od.Archiepiskoupi Macariou). We go up this street, moving away from the sea, and find ourselves at Seferi Square. All the most interesting things are located there.
Sightseeing in Ayia Napa
What to see in Ayia Napa
In the very center of the city, between bars and clubs, stands the medieval Orthodox monastery of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Agia Napa. This is the main attraction of Ayia Napa. This monastery has a very rich history and in the 16th century it enjoyed the same fame as. According to legend, in the 11th century there were dense forests on the site of the monastery. One hunter discovered an icon of the Most Holy Theotokos in a cave, told his fellow countrymen about it, and they began to come to this cave and pray. There was a clean spring nearby, on the site of which a well was built and it is still full of beautiful clean water. In the 14th century. A temple was built next to the source, which has survived to this day. In the 16th century, a two-story building was built near the northern part of the monastery.
There is an octagonal fountain in the monastery courtyard. It was also built in the 16th century. at the expense of one rich girl from . The girl, not wanting to marry someone she did not love, went to a monastery and subsequently became an abbess. She also planted a syquimore at the southern entrance to the monastery, and it is still growing there. This is the oldest tree in Famagusta district. Since 1790, a settlement gradually formed around the monastery. In 1813 the monastery was restored. Now the monastery is not active, but services are held in the church and it is open to pilgrims.
Good to know:
Chapels of Ayia Napa
What other attractions of Ayia Napa can you visit on your own? On the western outskirts of Ayia Napa, there is a small 12th-century chapel built in the Byzantine style. This is the chapel of St. Barbara. It was recently restored and covered with very beautiful frescoes. Next to the chapel there are several cave chapels that were built in the early centuries of Christianity. And a few kilometers from the chapel of St. Barbara, on the shore, stands the medieval chapel of St. Thekla. It was erected on the site of an ancient cave church, which in turn was built on an ancient burial ground.
Thalassa Sea Museum
If you have asked the question: “what to see in Ayia Napa with children?”, then you will find the answer by visiting the Thalassa Sea Museum. This is one of the most interesting museums. It tells residents and visitors about the sea and its importance and influence on the island from antiquity to the present day. In the museum you will see finds from the bottom of the sea, models of ancient ships, sculptures, idols, vases from various historical periods (5000 BC - 1600 AD).

Walk to the Cyclops Cave
To get to the next attraction of Ayia Napa you will need to take a short but fascinating walk. Our goal is Cyclops' Cave. It is located near the city. It can be reached on foot in about an hour and a half from Konnos bay. The bay is located in the east of Ayia Napa between Cape Cavo Greco and. The bay is very picturesque with a secluded sandy beach with clear blue water. The road to the cave will be fascinating; it winds among flowering bushes and trees and either descends to the sea or climbs the hills. Stock up on provisions and you can have picnics - there will be many suitable places here.
The starting point for the walk is .
From there, move towards McDonald's and before reaching it you will see a road (opposite there is a mini golf course and a parking lot). Follow this road east, away from Luna Park. After a while you will see a T-junction and turn right towards the sea and follow the road which ends at the beach. Then turn left onto the ring road, and after about 20 minutes of walking, the road turns left again. Go left until the road turns right. At this point there will be a ring road and you need to move along it towards Cape Cavo Greco. After some time you will again find yourself at a T-junction. From there, take the road going to the right, towards the sea, towards Cape Cavo Greco (follow the signs).
Last minute tours to Cyprus
Follow this road and there will be a sign on the right for Aiya Napa sea-caves. Continue walking and soon there will be a sign for the access point to the viewpoint at the top of Cape Cavo Greko. The sign will be on the right along the way. Continue past it for another 2 km and on the right you will see a sign for the passage to Konnos Bay. There will also be a Greek Park Hotel. Follow the sign along the road to the beach. Approximately in the middle of the descent there will be a sign “1.5 km to the Cyclops Cave.” (Cyclops Cave 1.5 km.). You can climb into the cave and explore its halls with stalactites on the vaults. And since you’ve already reached the Cyclops’ cave, don’t be lazy and get to another attraction of these places - the Sea Caves.
Such bizarre caves can only be found in Ayia Napa. They were created by the sea over millions of years. After visiting the Cyclops' Cave, return to the section of the road where the sign "Ayia Napa Sea Caves" was located. Follow this road and after a while an uneven, narrow path will branch off from it, to the right. Follow it to the sea and after a few minutes there will be caves on the right. A rock with caves protrudes into the sea. And next to it is a rocky beach with clear water. Explore the caves from the inside, they are very unusual and mysterious. There are such interesting places in Ayia Napa. You are guaranteed impressions, and excellent photographs too.
Famagusta is located in the southern part of the bay and is surrounded by massive walls. It is believed that this ancient city was founded by the Egyptians. Built in the 14th century, St. Nicholas Cathedral is rightfully considered the main attraction of these places. After the Turkish siege of Famagusta in the 16th century, part of the cathedral was badly damaged by cannon fire, but the restorers performed a small miracle - several centuries later, St. Nicholas Cathedral again pleases the eyes of tourists. An excellent view opens from the platform of the Othello Tower - it was in honor of the famous Shakespearean hero that this tower was named, since it is generally believed that he lived in this city.
Being the second largest city in Northern Cyprus, Famagusta attracts tourists with its eclecticism in architecture, since not only Cypriots, but also Turks and Greeks live here. At the same time, representatives of each nation contributed to the appearance of the modern city. After exploring the sights, you can have a great time on the golden sandy beach.
Cape Greco
Cape Greco is a wildly romantic place and, at the same time, a forest reserve and guardian of beauty. Representatives of beauty: a picturesque cliff from which you can jump into the crystal clear sea, vibrant marine fauna, palace caves carved over centuries by the waves, beaches with white sand and a luxurious evening sunset.
Cape Greco is also part of the Aphrodite Cultural Routes, reminiscent of the island's connection with the goddess. You can also hike along a network of other scenic trails. This can be either walking (there are even benches for resting here) or cycling. An interesting hike is to the small white church of St. Anargyri, the steps of which go down to the sea itself, or the paths leading to the Cyclops’ cave.
However, no matter how much you want, it is impossible to walk along the entire cape - or rather, it is unrealistic to wander along the very tip of the cape. There is a British military radar located here, separated from the population by a fence. But there will already be a lot of impressions.

Lover's Bridge
Once on Capo Greco, all couples in love rush to the Lovers' Bridge. This rock arch was formed as a result of natural processes. It surprises with its apparent fragility and perfect resemblance to a bridge.
Taking a photo on the Lovers' Bridge is a unique tradition for all Cypriot newlyweds. The crystal clear turquoise sea creates a stunning and unique landscape.
You can get to Lovers' Bridge from all nearby cities - Ayia Napa, Paralimni and Protaras. To do this, you can rent a bicycle or a car.
Nissi Beach is one of the first beaches in Cyprus and the most famous. Freedom and complete relaxation reign here. The place is not for lovers of silence and solitude, but those who prefer fiery music of first-class DJs to silence, and noisy foam discos, relaxed dances and luxurious restaurants to solitude, will receive incomparable pleasure here.
The popularity of Nissi, in addition to entertainment, is supported by the clearest sea, the water temperature of which is comparable only to the temperature of heated milk, snow-white soft sand and the opportunity to explore marine life. As for marine entertainment, everything is standard here: catamarans, parachute, ping-pong, banana, etc.
There is an island on the beach that offers stunning views that are worth capturing as a souvenir.
Makronissos Beach
Makronissos Beach has existed for decades. Over the entire period of its existence, it has received millions of vacationing tourists. And not one of them was disappointed with this wonderful vacation spot.
The main advantage of the beach is, first of all, the white sandy shore, as well as crystal clear water. It is surrounded on three sides by bays, which guarantee a calm sea and the absence of high waves.
On the beach you can not only swim, but also get an even tan. Sun loungers and parasols can be rented. You can also use sports equipment for a while. For a nominal sum, tourists can buy jet skis, surfboards, air mattresses, scuba diving equipment and many other things.
When going to the beach, you can be one hundred percent sure of your safety. From early morning until late at night, several lifeguards watch over swimmers at the same time.
Cape Capo Greco
Capo Greco is a cape located in the southeastern part of the island of Cyprus. It is the southern end of Ayia Napa Bay and the eastern end of Famagusta Bay. The cape is famous for its rocky coastline with turquoise clear water, which is very popular among lovers of snorkeling, spearfishing and diving. According to Cypriot legend, the terrible Ayia Napa monster lives in the waters surrounding Cape Capo Greco. In reality, birds flying across the Mediterranean Sea rest here. The eastern part of Cape Greco is inaccessible to tourists, as there is a British military base radar station and a lighthouse there.
At Cape Greco, in the municipality of Ayia Napa, the Cavo Greco State Forest Park is located. Its area is about 384.9 hectares. Rare plants are found in the park, for example, of the 35 varieties of orchids that grow on the island of Cyprus, most are found here. Irises and crocuses also grow on the cape. It is included in the European Union's Natura 2000 environmental program. In ancient times, on the territory of Capo Greco there was a temple of Aphrodite. One of the hiking routes leads to it.
Lake Paralimni
The lake is located next to the village of Paralimni and its distinctive feature is that in summer it completely dries up and turns into a field.
The settlement near the lake dates back to the 15th century, when people migrated from the shores of Cyprus inland to escape pirates.
The lake is home to a species of snake that is on the verge of extinction. But despite this, local residents actively use the lake area in the summer for agriculture.

11 interesting places and attractions in Ayia Napa. Where to go and what to see in Ayia Napa during your holiday 2019.
Since the middle of the first decade of the 21st century, Ayia Napa has a reputation as the most fun and noisy resort in the entire Mediterranean. There are plenty of clubs, amazing beach parties and fun that goes on day and night. However, Ayia Napa also has quiet places, natural and historical attractions and interesting museums. Below is a list of 9 places and things not to be missed in Ayia Napa and the surrounding area:
Ayia Napa Monastery
The Monastery is the #1 attraction in Ayia Napa
It is Ayia Napa's oldest landmark, dating back to the 15th century when Cyprus was ruled by the Venetians. Now the monastery is located within the city, but at the time of construction it was a remote and quiet place, hidden in a pine forest. The church, mill, cells and fountain in the courtyard are built of honey-colored limestone. After the Ottoman conquest in the 16th century, the monastery remained untouched and remained in good condition in subsequent centuries, although monks have not lived here since the end of the 19th century.
Thalassa Museum
Even though Ayia Napa is a party town, it also has some of the best museums on. The Thalassa Sea Museum opened in 2005 and claims to be the best museum of its kind in the Mediterranean. In the museum you can learn a lot about the civilizations that settled in Cyprus at different times, and about 7 thousand years of maritime history. The exhibits include examples from the Neolithic, Bronze Age and Classical periods. The collection is complemented by natural exhibits - fossils and shells.
Konnos Beach
Konnos Beach is another place worth visiting in Ayia Napa
This is the best beach around Ayia Napa for those who want to escape the crowded resorts and get back to nature. Konnos is a narrow beach with white sand and clear waters. The bay is protected from currents and winds by long rocky spurs, which makes the waters quite calm. The shallow waters are ideal for snorkeling and swimming. On the beach you can rent jet skis and grab a bite to eat at the local snack bars.
Nissi Beach
Beautiful and lively, Nissi Beach is great for partygoers and families alike. For the former, there are clubs with swimming pools and DJs on the beach. Another source of pleasure is cliff jumping, which can be done on the western side of the beach, as well as the huge selection of water sports that are available on the beach. Visitors with children will find sunbeds on Nissi away from the hustle and bustle and enjoy the white sands and clear aquamarine waters in a tranquil environment.
Cape Greco
What to see in Gia Napa - Cape Greco
To the east of Ayia Napa is Cape Greco, which is part of a natural park. As you approach the cape, you can admire tall wild grass, poppies and various plants. At the top of the cape there are benches, sitting on which you can admire the rocky landscapes and the Mediterranean Sea. You can also walk down to the water to explore the system of sea caves.
Sea caves
The caves, which are part of Cape Greco, were carved into the rock by currents and can be accessed from the water or by foot. These strange but wonderful places will be of interest to adventure lovers and those who want to take some amazing photos during their vacation.
Sculpture Park
The newly opened Sculpture Park is an interesting cultural attraction located east of Ayia Napa. 20 different world sculptors placed their works in the park. Mediterranean landscapes and 40 white marble or limestone sculptures make the park a wonderful place for a relaxing stroll.
Tombs of Makronissos
Until 1989, no one suspected the existence of this Hellenistic and Roman tomb complex located near Ayia Napa. There are a total of 19 stone tombs, each with a rectangular entrance closed by a large limestone slab. This place will be interesting to explore for those interested in history.
Boat trips from Ayia Napa
Boat trips from Ayia Napa are popular
From Ayia Napa harbor you can embark on cruises on a variety of boats, from a 'floating club' with a bar and DJ to a pirate ship with several swimming stops along the way. There are also relaxing catamaran cruises for people who want to bask in the sun and admire the surrounding beauty.
What to see on your own in Ayia Napa in Cyprus? Where to go? What attractions are there? We walked around everything in Ayia Napa to write this review.
There are not many attractions in Ayia Napa. I would even say that their cat cried. They just come here for other purposes. Therefore, I won’t be too picky about Ayia Napa. If you want to see something truly "wow" in Cyprus, go to or in , but this is all far from Ayia Napa. But it's very beautiful.
Cape Greco
Cape Greco is definitely worth seeing in Ayia Napa, no matter how trivial it may be. It’s beautiful there, different bays with blue water, but it’s difficult to get down to the water - it’s high up. Although I saw the guys coming down. You won't be able to swim there among the rocks anyway. Boats sail nearby; tourists from Ayia Napa and Protaras are brought here for 10-20 euros to see the blue lagoon. There are a lot of different dirt paths here and you can ride ATVs. Just discord for those who have their own transport. I don’t recommend walking around Cape Cavo Greco, because there is no shade at all, and you can go crazy from the heat. If only early in the morning or in the evening before sunset. From the bus stop 101 you still need to walk 1.5 km.
At Cape Greco there is a famous natural bridge - the Bridge of Love. In the photo on the Internet there are people standing on it, but now everything there is fenced off, and there are such huge cracks that it will probably collapse someday. So get a look at it while you still have the chance.
Beaches
The beaches in Ayia Napa are a must see. My personal rating is Makronissos, Limanaki, Nissi, Sandy Bay, Ayia Thekla.
Aqueduct
In Ayia Napa, a Roman-built aqueduct and an old water canal have been preserved, which is now dry. This archaeological site is located right next to the city center behind the River Rock Hotel. Admission is free, there are not many tourists there.
Maritime Museum
Located in the center of Ayia Napa, entrance costs 2.5 euros. The museum contains paleontological, archaeological and geological exhibits.
Ayia Napa Monastery
The monastery is located next to Bar Street in the city center. Part of this monastery is underground, and it itself is carved out of rock. The famous huge ficus grows nearby. The monastery opens according to a schedule; you must enter with your shoulders and knees covered. If you come early in the morning or late, the monastery will be closed.
Temple of Aya Thekla
The temple is located on the outskirts of Ayia Napa and is made in white and blue colors. Nearby is the Aya Tekla cave with an icon inside. You can go into the cave, it is open. From the rocks there is a view of Ayia Thekla beach and an island in the middle of the beach.
Sculpture Park
I don’t know when to come here, but there is no shade at all in the sculpture park, except for one gazebo. It is very difficult to walk, even in the morning or in the evening. There are many sculptures, and the park is constantly being replenished. Sculptors from different countries, they sign their works. Entrance to the sculpture park in Ayia Napa is free.
Lunapark
This is the largest amusement park in Cyprus, but it itself is small. There are 49 carousels and entertainment on the territory. Admission is free, you need to pay for each attraction separately, from 1 to 20 euros. A booster costs 8 euros, and a sling shot (catapult) costs 20 euros. There are daily passes from 25 euros for adults, 10 euros for children. But even with these passes, some attractions require you to pay extra for admission.
Marina
You should definitely look at the marina without me; it is located right in the center next to Limanaki beach. There is a beautiful embankment, gazebos for relaxation, and fish restaurants. There are numerous sellers of sea excursions near the ships.
Bar street
How can you come to Ayia Napa and not see the famous street bar? Each bar has its own specialty and its own crowd. If you want to party, pick up flyers on the street. They are distributed day and evening in the city and at the exit of a beach party on Nissi Beach. With VIP flyers, even transfer to the club is free.
And this is my favorite headphone party at Bedrock. The club is quiet, everyone is listening to music on headphones, dancing, singing along.
This is a town near Ayia Napa where locals live. There are taverns for Cypriots, churches and narrow streets. There's not much to see, but you can take a walk.
Aquapark
Located at the exit from the city towards Larnaca. Ticket costs 38 euros for adults, 24 euros for children. The water park in Ayia Napa is designed in the style of Ancient Greece, and the slides are named after the Greek gods, there are columns and sculptures everywhere. I’m not a fan of water parks at all after Spain, but it’s probably a good idea to spend the whole day with kids. I was surprised that the walls of the water park are fenced with barbed wire.
Karting
Right next to the water park (to the right of it) there is a small go-kart. There is even a single ticket to the water park and then to the karting. No one rode with me.
By the way, to see all the sights of Ayia Napa on your own, just take buses 101 and 102. They go past all the interesting places. And if you rent a car or ATV, you can see everything faster.
Many centuries ago, a Cypriot hunter, making his way through an impenetrable forest, came across a mysterious cave. Entering it, the man saw the face of a sacred deity on the wall of the cave; it was an icon of the Mother of God. From that time on, the amazing place began to be called “Ayia Napa”, which translated into “Holy Forest”. And a small settlement of fishermen that arose near it received the same name - Ayia Napa.
Modern Cyprus became famous for the resort town of Ayia Napa just a few decades ago. Comfortable hotels began to appear on the coast, where hundreds of tourists eagerly flocked.
Numerous reviews about holidays in Ayia Napa are left by young people. They are attracted here by the abundance of colorful discos, nightclubs, bars and cafes. Here they enjoy luxurious Cypriot wines and delicious cuisine. Time at the resort is fun and active. Let's find out what interesting things Ayia Napa has prepared for tourists on the island. Cyprus and attractions that are really worth seeing?
Advice. If you want to visit Ayia Napa as a family with children, if you want to come and sleep peacefully after a busy day, choose hotels located further from the town center. It was the central part of Ayia Napa that was dedicated to parties and noisy night discos.
But “Cypriot Ibiza,” as this youngest resort in Cyprus is also called, is famous not only for its unbridled fun and bright neon signs of fashionable hotels. Cyprus Ayia Napa has amazing sights. Reviews from tourists about them are always interesting and fascinating. Here is a description of the most interesting ones.

Cyprus is proud of many ancient and mysterious monasteries. Ayia Napa is famous for its ancient monastery built in the 16th century. The monastery is known as the Madonna of the Forest. Lover's Bridge (Monk Seal Arch)
One attraction of Ayia Napa is intended for lovers; photos are definitely taken near it. An exquisite stone arch gently descends to the turquoise water of the Mediterranean. Traditionally, couples go up to the bridge, take a gorgeous photo and, merging in a kiss, make a wish.

Sea grottoes
Cyprus is filled with mysterious sea caves. Mysterious grottoes are one of the famous attractions of Ayia Napa. The most stunning of them are located near the Grecian Sands Hotel. The most courageous tourists swim to the caves from the shore, while the rest of the vacationers are taken to admire the rocky beauty by pleasure boats.
- Many reckless daredevils have adapted the steep cliffs of the grottoes of Ayia Napa for diving. But doing this is dangerous - the seabed in this place is completely strewn with stones.
Aqueduct
One of the amazing attractions of Ayia Napa. It was discovered in 1974 during archaeological research. The ruins of the aqueduct are located between the rocks of Pila Verde and Cavo Greco. The complex structure, about 2 km long, supplied water to the entire Cyprus region.
- At the beginning of the 21st century, the ancient aqueduct resumed its work (the Department for the Protection of Antiquities contributed to this).
Cape Greco
If you look at the map of Ayia Napa, in the southeastern side you can see one attraction untouched by civilization. This is Cape Greco. At the very top of the rock there is a tiny snow-white church - many newlyweds choose it for their wedding. The cape also attracts extreme sports enthusiasts - diving in sea caves (the most dangerous in Cyprus) and jumping from steep cliffs tickle your nerves and fill you with drive.
- According to local legends, the mysterious karst caves under Cape Greco were used in ancient times by smugglers and pirates to hide treasures.
Tombs of Makronissos
Cyprus has a unique complex of archaeological sites. Quarries, temples and about 20 ancient tombs are one of the most interesting attractions of Ayia Napa. Many tombs contain ancient stone benches.
- Archaeological excavations are still ongoing here, but the rock tombs are open to tourists. According to legend, it was in these places that the icon of the Mother of God was once found.
In addition to ancient attractions, Ayia Napa is also famous for its interesting modern places; reviews from tourists who have been there are filled with delight and admiration.
Nissi Beach
Cyprus is proud of its immaculate beaches. One of the best coastlines with velvet sand and gently turquoise water is Nissi Beach. The best DJs in Europe come here to entertain vacationers, creating excellent drive-in events and parties. In the evening, tourists enjoy the mesmerizing view of the setting sun over a glass of wine.
- There is a small island next to the beach. It is connected to the coast by a thin sandy path.
Luna Park Paliatso
Room of fear
A great, huge place in Ayia Napa for all kinds of entertainment (the amusement park area is about 25 km). Dozens of attractions, raffles, lotteries, a Ferris wheel, a risky slingshot, karting, water slides and much more await guests from early morning until late evening.
- You can get a long-lasting positive charge when you come to Nissi Avenue. It is there, next to McDonald's, that there is a wonderful amusement park.
Embankment
Fishing boat on the embankment
One of the most popular places among tourists is the alluring embankment located near Luna Park. The best seafood restaurants and two-story fish taverns await you here. Snow-white yachts and painted pleasure boats are always ready to take tourists on a ride.
- This is the best place for leisurely evening walks, quiet, peaceful relaxation and admiring the beautiful sunset.
Talas Maritime Museum
Cyprus is famous for its museums. Ayia Napa is especially proud of its modern museum dedicated to the sea. The goal of the museum is to introduce tourists to the amazing inhabitants of the underwater world, stunning exhibits and compositions. The huge collection also includes ancient artifacts and paintings by Cypriot artists. There's definitely something to see here!

Aquapark
This place is famous not only for its abundance of exciting attractions, but also for its unusual design. This is the most attractive of the modern attractions of Cyprus. The designers took numerous myths of Ancient Hellas as the inspiration for the design. All bridges, buildings, various statues and fountains carry the spirit of legendary tales of mystical times.
- Impressive sea slides with simulated surf, tunnels, pools, and geysers await you here. Ayia Napa has not forgotten about children. Reviews from parents are filled with enthusiastic memories of tiny mini-water slides, bright little pools, interesting labyrinths and colorful playgrounds.
Night Club Street
More precisely, a whole block of exciting nightlife entertainment. This is the most atmospheric of Ayia Napa's attractions. Everything here is aimed at ensuring that guests do not get bored. The vibrant nightlife is filled with music, songs, shouting barkers and dancing.
- The night quarter comes alive from 10-11 pm. You can wear the most incredible outfits here. A fascinating night street is located near the monastery, in the central part of the city.
