Even then, more than 50 years ago, buses from Zagreb departed to various points in Europe (and not only Eastern, but also Western).
The bus station acquired its modern appearance in 1987, when a new, more modern building was built.
At the station there are many retail outlets, there are restaurants, you can buy souvenirs, clothes, and so on.

Rent a car at Zagreb airport
Driving around Croatia is a pleasure: the roads are smooth, the traffic is not very intense, and you can get from Zagreb to the Adriatic coast in just a couple of hours, covering 180 km.
Renting a car is suitable for independent travelers who want to visit the most secluded beaches and villages of Croatia. If you plan to vacation at a large Croatian resort and not travel anywhere outside of it, then you will not need a car - Croatia has a well-developed network of bus routes.
The car can be picked up either at Zagreb airport immediately after arrival, or at almost any popular resort in Croatia. You will enjoy traveling by car, you just need to understand a little about parking rules and local nuances.
We rent cars while traveling at the best prices and with the best conditions on the Russian version of the international car rental website. During the high season, it is simply unrealistic to book a car on site, so we advise everyone to book a rental car in advance.
The map of the main routes in Croatia shows the main destinations in Croatia and the telephone numbers required for drivers.
Taxi from Zagreb airport
Zagreb is, after all, a Balkan city. And the Balkans are famous for their sometimes outrageous taxi fares and the desire of taxi drivers to defraud tourists who are unaware of local prices. I caution you against getting into one of the taxis waiting in front of the bus stop at Zagreb Airport.
It would be best to order a taxi by phone using one of the numbers that will be provided to you at the airport information desk and wait for a taxi with transparent tariffs without deception. If you still decide to take a taxi directly at the airport, agree on the price with the taxi driver in advance. When traveling from the airport with luggage and after 22:00, a separate fee will be charged. You should definitely order a taxi in advance if you are traveling with a child, because... Not all cars are equipped with child seats, and it is better to think about this in advance.
If you are afraid that local taxi drivers will not understand you or will raise prices, I advise you to contact a Russian company that we have verified in advance via the Internet at a predetermined final price. After arrival, the driver will meet you and take you to your hotel anywhere in Croatia, be it the center of Zagreb or a resort town in an air-conditioned car in good condition. A transfer will help you save a lot of precious rest time and energy, because in the summer in the heat with suitcases there is no pleasure in running around on public transport.
How to get from Zagreb to the airport
To get from Zagreb to the airport, you will first need to take tram number 2 or number 6 to the main bus station in Zagreb, and then take the shuttle bus to the airport. The shuttle schedule is listed in the article above. If you are afraid of not understanding the work of public transport in Zagreb, I advise you to book a transfer to Zagreb airport by taxi.
When traveling to Zagreb airport from Istrian resorts, the easiest way is to order a transfer, especially when traveling with a large group. Judge for yourself: first you will need to get to the bus station in your city, wait for the bus, get to the Zagreb bus station, change to a bus to the airport. In my opinion, this is too long and tedious, and it is much easier to take care of a taxi transfer in advance.
A2B.ru offers to order a transfer from the bus station "Zagreb Bus Station" along the route Zagreb Bus Station - airport or train station and back. Searching for a car with a driver is done automatically and takes only a few seconds.
