Duong dong vietnam description. What to see on the island of Phu Quoc (Vietnam). Holidays in Fukuoka. About attractions
The flight from the former Saigon takes only 40 minutes, and the presence of two low-cost airlines on the route: Jetstar and VietJet guarantees a low cost of the flight. We went the other way, namely water.

From the town of Hatien, located near the border with Cambodia, ferries and faster long boats depart daily for Phu Quoc, for some reason called the local “superboat”; on one of these we crossed to the island. A ticket for one person cost 230,000 Vietnamese dong, which is approximately equal to $ 10, the journey lasts about an hour and a half. On the way, we were entertained by Vietnamese TV programs broadcast on several installed screens and a motley audience in the cabin: large, several generations, local families, bearded European backpackers and even livestock and birds coexisted perfectly on board.
The capital of Phu Quoc, the city of Duong Dong, by the standards of megacities South-East Asia and it doesn't look like a city. So, an urban-type settlement. However, this is the heart of Fukuoka, the largest settlement on the island and the center of local tourist life. It is located on the west coast. But the pier, to which our ship landed after a short voyage, was in the east of the island. Fortunately, as in any transshipment point, there was no shortage of offers for transportation to the final point.

And finally we are in Duong Dong. A hotel room was booked ahead of time, seven days of stay cost us about 38 thousand rubles. This four-star hotel is one of the oldest on the island, with a well-deserved reputation and a convenient location within walking distance of the night market.

In addition, when choosing, we were bribed by a variety of additional bonuses included in the cost of living. On site you can play table tennis, minigolf and petanque, go kayaking or lie in a hammock on the beach, and free bicycles are available for trips to the city for sports guests of the hotel. However, after the first attempt to arrange a bike race under the rays of the hot southern sun, we left this type of transport to more enduring tourists and local residents accustomed to the climate, while we ourselves preferred beach hammocks in the shade of sprawling palm trees. Sand beach slightly spoil the concrete steps that protect it from erosion, apparently. After the tide, surprised tiny crabs sometimes crawl out of the sand; look around and quickly dig back.

And the Long Beach, on which the chosen one is located, and most of the other hotels on the island, faces west. This gives a wonderful opportunity to enjoy breathtaking sunsets every evening.

Having briefly explored the territory and tasted the temperature of the water in the Gulf of Thailand, we, following the call of the stomach, went in search of a place to eat, from the very first time we accidentally stumbled upon the Duong Dong night market, and so we dined there all the remaining days.

The atmosphere here is democratic - plastic tables and chairs next to counters bursting with freshly caught seafood, the smell of grilling, shouting touts, and the price tag, perhaps even higher than the average for the island, but the flavor of the place justifies all the costs. No wonder the night market is one of the main attractions of the island. The market begins with a kind of food court, the emphasis of which, of course, falls on fish, shellfish and other various seafood, which, however, does not negate the presence of traditional Vietnamese dishes and local presentation of European cuisine on the menu.

Day after day I consistently tasted livestock from the shelves, and my life partner preferred more traditional dishes, as well as desserts, fried ice cream and Vietnamese coffee. Prices for hot dishes start from about 100-120.000 VND (about $ 5), a portion of small shells on the grill with a sauce of a mixture of black pepper, salt and lime juice, an excellent snack for beer, by the way - 80.000 ($ 3.5), beer, as a rule, Saigon Beer, light lager - 12-15.000 dong. Fried ice cream, along with the mesmerizing spectacle of its preparation, will cost 30,000 VND. The food court is followed by shopping arcades and souvenir shops. Toward the end of the trip, we found out that if you follow them down to the beach, you will get to small cafes right on the sand, where the locals themselves eat, and the prices are lower.

From here, it is within easy reach of the lighthouse, built on a rock at the entrance to Duong Dong Bay. Fulfilling its main function, this building is also a temple of the sea goddess, and superstitious fishermen are drawn to bow to her with offerings in the form of flowers and fruits.
Phu Quoc is an island ideal for a relaxing, measured holiday. It doesn't have many attractions. However, there is something to see and how to diversify the rest. Of the two popular overland excursions - to the south and north of the island - we chose the first. The most economical way is to go as part of a group of 8-10 people with an English-speaking guide, as we did. They paid $15 per person, this amount included lunch. It will be more comfortable, but more expensive, to go on an excursion in a separate passenger car and / or with a Russian-speaking guide. The end point of the route was the picturesque Bai Sao beach, known throughout the island for its small white sand. A wonderful place, although we were not lucky with the weather: the waves made the water on the beach unclear and spoiled the postcard view. Conclusion: it is better to come here in calm weather.

On the way to the beach, tourists are brought to the factory of the famous nuoc mam fish sauce, without which it is impossible to imagine any feast in Vietnam. This sauce is made from fish fermented in the sun and in the heat, with the addition of salt and spices, so it has a very specific smell, especially strong in production. My wife could not even overcome herself and go into the production room, where there are vats for fermentation.

In addition, during the trip there will be stops at a pearl farm, a black pepper plantation, near the Su Muon Pagoda and at a museum dedicated to the former Coconut Prison on the island under the colonial government, but in fact a concentration camp. At the pearl farm, visitors are told about the process and visually demonstrate the stages of pearl formation in the shell, and then they are taken to a shop located at the farm. The decorations here are beautiful, but the prices bite. I note that at the night market you can buy replicas of almost the entire local model range, and smiling market sellers claim that their goods are real, and as proof, they scratch, bite and abuse unfortunate earrings and necklaces in a different way.

After a land excursion and walks around the city, it's time for scuba diving. There are several dive centers on the island, I went to sea with Rainbow Divers and Vietnam Explorer. The first is a network of centers throughout Vietnam, their guides are mainly Europeans and Australians, although there was even one instructor from Algeria, there are Russian guides. Everything is organized at an excellent level, prices start at $85 for two dives per day in the north of the island, $35 for an additional non-diving passenger on board. The price includes transfer from the hotel and back, rental of a full set of diving equipment, everything you need for snorkeling, lunch, drinking water. Vietnam Explorer gives the impression of a local office, the guides are all Vietnamese, the service is somewhat worse, but the prices are lower (you can bargain) and more color.

Another pride of the island is the local dog breed, the Phu Quoc Ridgeback. Its distinguishing feature is a comb of protruding wool that runs along the entire backbone of the animal. They say that dogs of this breed are strictly forbidden to be taken out of the island. Although, it is possible that this is just a story of local guides.
A week in Fukuoka flew by unnoticed. We were not at the waterfalls that dry up during the dry season, there was not enough time to visit the recently opened safari park. We will try to close these gaps next time, because Phu Quoc is an island that we would like to return to.

Duong Dong Night Market is its tourist name, local Vietnamese prefer to call it Duong Dong. The market is one of the attractions of the island. It is certainly worth a visit, if only for the sake of curiosity.
The night market is two streets on which traffic is blocked, and merchants are free to set up their shops with various goods. There are also a dozen street cafes that offer a choice of fresh seafood. But still, not everyone obeys the rules, some drive in on their motorbikes and shamelessly drive around the streets.
Peculiarities
Several aquariums and vats with living creatures are built along the street. In them are sea urchins, shellfish, shrimp, various types of fish and snakes, mussels, lobsters, even small turtles. A special feature is that the selected seafood is still alive. Such a wonderful sea buffet.
Sea delicacies for every taste
Being here you need to take the opportunity and try the seafood.
Many specially come here to visit this market. Given the proximity of the sea, the prices here are not at all expensive, but they cannot be called cheap either.
If you have a desire to cook on your own, then in the afternoon you can buy much cheaper from a boat.
Trying seafood
We sat down in one of these cafes, chose two fish swimming in the aquarium, and 15 minutes later they brought us ready meals. Then we also ordered crab and chicken fillet with vegetables. Everything was delicious and we were satisfied. And really fresh fish can not be compared with anything. The choice of side dishes is quite large. Asian herbs and sauces add piquancy to the dish.
fresh
We also tried Saigon beer - cheap and tasty here. (however, it is cheaper in local shops)
The cost of the bill depends on your choice and will be from 5-20 dollars per dish. The most expensive dish will cost from 50-60 dollars. Don't be shy and bargain, even though it surprises them. Despite the fact that this is an Asian country, the Vietnamese do not like to bargain.
But beer "Saigon" here is cheap and tasty.
Of course, we love to try something new, but fried snakes and frogs, turtle soup, it was too much. Didn't want to try at all. But there were those who wanted to, and even with great enthusiasm they ordered all this.
Most cafes are family businesses.
The waiters go out on the road and invite visitors. Right there on a high stand is a menu with prices and pictures, if it’s difficult for anyone to choose, it helps a lot. The menu is in English and Chinese, but there is also in Russian. When they see and hear that you are Russian-speaking, then you don’t even need to ask them for anything, they immediately carry the menu in Russian))).
Unusual Vietnamese ice cream
We saw here a very unusual and interesting way of making ice cream. The Vietnamese made a whole show out of it. And there are a lot of people who want to see and buy.
What does it look like?! Transport freezer, on top with an even horizontal cover. A liquid is poured onto it from which ice cream is prepared. Then, with special small iron spatulas, they begin to knock, stirring and then put together. They do it very skillfully. They knock at high speed and very loudly. At the end, several tubes are made with spatulas and placed in a glass.
This is how Vietnamese ice cream is made
Ice cream lovers have plenty to choose from:
- Strawberry.
- Banana.
- Chocolate.
- Coconut.
- Pineapple.
- With blackcurrant.
How do you like this choice?! Of course, we could not resist the temptation: we bought and tried. What can I say? Such delicious ice cream in briquettes is not sold. Just great.
What is not on the market!
And of course, there are plenty of things on the market. Your choice of clothes, shoes, fabrics, jewelry made of stone and wood. Various magnets and handbags, backpacks, handmade postcards.
I saw such postcards for the first time, very original and beautiful. You can also try and buy a variety of coffees and teas for yourself. Those with a sweet tooth will also find something to try, here they sell various sweets with an unusual taste.
Here you can try many exotic flavors, until now you have not known. Large selection of spices and peppers.
They sell souvenir bottles with tincture of scorpions, snakes. The look is disgusting. (well, that's my opinion)
But for some reason there is no fresh fruit here. It wasn't until we exited the market, on the corner, that we were able to buy mango, lychee, and dragon fruit.
I bought beautiful bracelets made of stone as a keepsake for myself and my family.
Pearl products are sold in large quantities. Before buying, you just need to determine if it is a fake. However, I wouldn't recommend buying here.
Walking around the market, we heard beautiful singing and came closer to listen. Two beautiful Vietnamese girls performed a song in Vietnamese live and a few guys played along with them on instruments. This is how they made money.
You can also buy pancakes here, they are not as tasty as in, but still liked it.
There are a lot of people in the market, because there is not much entertainment on the island
In general, the Duong Dong market is for tourists, the locals do not buy anything there. This is such a unique and colorful place. You can buy absolutely everything you need, well, except for fruits.
I like it. The evening went well. It turned out to be a wonderful cocktail of pleasant, interesting and of course tasty moments. When you are on the island of Phu Quoc, do not pass by and visit this interesting corner.
Is it drawn to the lakes?))) Morka is not enough ?! Grab a taxi and come. I leave a link to the map - Zyn Dong Lake. Tracing paper from Vietnamese Hồ Dương Đông
Lake Duong Đong on the map
Dương Đông means “Eastern Ocean” or “Eastern Waters” in Vietnamese.
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO VIEW ZIN DONG LAKE (DUONG DONG) IN PHUKUOKA?
The most important reason is to feel like Sylvester Stallone in the Rambo movie. There are legends around Fukuoka that it was in the thickets of Lake Dương Đông that some episodes of an American film were filmed.
You know, everything is possible!
For local residents and tourists, Fukuoka freshwater reservoir plays a huge role.
Imagine a lake capable of producing 14.000 m3 of water/day. In 80% of Fukuoka hotels, water is supplied from this reservoir.
Thus, Duong Dong Lake is the largest reservoir, as well as the main source of fresh water for the entire island of Phu Quoc.
The concept of the Dying Dong reservoir was started in 1996 and completed in 2003. The total investment amounted to 45 billion VND. Investments in the project were sent by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
In 2018, this is one of the main attractions of the island, which few people know about and where there are no excursions.
You need to go to the lake on your own. Located in the center of the island. I remind you, the link to the location is at the beginning of the article.
For me, the importance of visiting the lake lies in the opportunity to visit a non-standard place that few people know about. The peculiarity of the attraction is peace and a state of complete relaxation that you will feel next to the water.
Order a Vietnamese coffee, open a book you have started and immerse yourself in reading and thinking. You will feel the feelings of the heroes of Kim Ki-duk's incredible tape "Spring, summer, autumn, winter ... and again spring."
Complete appeasement. Also, the process of brewing Vietnamese coffee is also saturated with a meditative state. The main thing is not to rush!
Hungry? Order seafood and vegetable salads. Delicious. There is a high probability that the fish will be caught from the reservoir near which you are resting.
Don't worry about quality! fish is good)
In the southern part of the island is the Phu Quoc hydroelectric power station, which often works intermittently. Interesting fact: Until 2002, 50% of the island was without electricity.
The so-called "Gelatoria", in Russian - an ice cream cafe, began to open only in 2009. Do you want ice cream? Then take a ticket to Saigon))
Hiking around the lake is very popular. Park your bike and go for a walk.
And the most important fact: the lake of the Eastern Ocean is saturated with the vibes of romance and love. Come with your loved ones and experience everything yourself.
Come! You will love it here.
- a popular tourist destination for the citizens of our country, especially when in the winter cold you want to get somewhere warm, closer to the sea and exotic nature.
Recently, one of the most popular tourism destinations in Vietnam is the island of Phu Quoc, the main city of which has become Duong Dong. It cannot be said that Duong Dong is similar to other administrative cities of Vietnam, since in terms of its appearance and size it is more suitable for the definition of a large village, but still it is the capital and the largest settlement on its territory.
How to get there?
Phu Quoc has its own small airport, so the best way to travel to Duong Dong is by air.
If you are traveling to Vietnam from Russia, then flights are organized from many major cities to, although not always direct, and then everyone chooses the most convenient way of transportation for themselves. For example, from Domodedovo you can fly directly to Fukuoka, but with a transfer in the same Ho Chi Minh City. The cost of such a flight is about 350 dollars, and the travel time is about 18 hours. If you make a transfer in the capital of Vietnam, then the flight will cost almost 2 times more. It is also possible to fly to Fukuoka with several transfers in neighboring countries.
There is only one small airport in Phu Quoc (it is of international importance) and it is located a few kilometers from Duong Dong. You can get to the capital of the island or to Long Beach using the services of a local taxi (it will cost about 4-5 dollars).
Remarkably, the territory of the island is small and the most popular way to travel on it is a taxi, the cost of which to anywhere in Fukuoka will not exceed $10.
general information
Duong Dong (in the local dialect it sounds like Duong Dong) is, as you already know, the capital of the island and at the same time (together with the Long Beach beach area) the busiest and most visited part of Phu Quoc. The city is located almost in the center of the island on the west coast. It is washed by the waters of the Gulf of Thailand. Here, in the city of Duong Donge, the largest island fishing port is located.
As for the infrastructure, vacationers prefer to stay somewhere in the vicinity of Duong Dong, since it is here that the largest number of hotels, travel agencies, cafes, restaurants and other entertainment facilities are located.
Repeatedly the island of Phu Quoc with its main tourist place in the vicinity of Duong Dong was chosen the best place vacation in Vietnam, and also received awards as the cleanest and most environmentally friendly place to stay.
Long Beach
Weather
The climate on the island is tropical with a predominance of monsoons. In the spring and summer months, typhoons are considered quite common. The temperature of both water and air during the year practically does not change and is at around +26 +28 degrees.
If you want to visit Phu Quoc and you are attracted to rest in Duong Dong, then best time for travel, the period of our winter is considered, when comfortable hot weather prevails throughout Vietnam, which is most favorable for a good beach holiday.
Accommodation
In Phu Quoc, the largest range of offers for rental housing is located in the Duong Dong area. Here you can stay in a comfortable hotel category from 3 to 5 stars, or choose one of the many bungalows on the coast. The cost of housing is different, but inflated prices are not observed. A tourist with any income level can rent a room or a small bungalow.
Attractions
Almost all the attractions of Phu Quoc Island are located in the vicinity of the largest locality– Duong Dong, so staying in one of the hotels in the city or in its vicinity will be the easiest way for you to explore everything that this island in Vietnam has to offer.
The main attractions of Duong Dong, and, accordingly, Phu Quoc are:
- So Myon Pagoda with a very picturesque park area where you can walk around the neighborhood, see several Buddha statues, as well as the Buddhist temple itself.
- Suoi Tran waterfall is located about 7 kilometers from Duong Dong in the direction of movement towards the village of Ham Nin. It is located right in the middle of the tropical jungle. The waterfall itself is small, but very beautiful, deserted, and you can swim in the pool at its foot.
- About 6 kilometers south of Duong Dong is the only museum in Phu Quoc - Coi Nguon. True, it is completely private and presents visitors with historical collections relating to various time periods in the history of the island. Here, vacationers will see the skeletons of marine life, tools of past eras, documents and photographs reflecting a particular era in history, and much more.
- On the territory of Duong Dong is the Cau Palace, which was once rebuilt in honor of the sea goddess Thien Hau. The palace appeared in 1937 on the top of the cliff, where there was once a lighthouse that indicated the direction to the sailors. The location of the Cau Palace is still a cult place for all sailors and fishermen who constantly bring gifts from the sea to this temple.
- Near the center of Duong Dong there is another pagoda, considered the oldest on the island - Sung Hyng. It appeared here at the beginning of the last century, has already been restored and renovated twice, but at the same time has not lost its unusual appearance and interesting architecture.
- The nuoc mam fish sauce factory is also located near the city. This sauce is very hot and specific, and is made even more unusually. Phu Quoc is considered the birthplace of this sauce. You can easily find the factory by the smell of rotten fish, because to cook this unusual product, the Vietnamese store the fish in barrels and leave it in the sun for several days. This is what will become the basis for the preparation of "nuoc mam", so beloved in Vietnam. Almost all tourists who have seen the process of making their favorite Vietnamese sauce never eat it.
so myon pagoda
Suoy Tran waterfall
cau palace
Undoubtedly, one of the most important attractions not only of Duong Dong, but of the whole of Phu Quoc, is the night oriental bazaar with its own flavor and a wide variety of products offered for sale. He begins his work immediately after sunset and continues to sell until late at night, and sometimes until dawn. All goods presented here for sale are much cheaper than similar ones in souvenir shops and shops not only in Fukuoka, but throughout Vietnam. Remarkably, at the Duong Dong night market you can even find quite rare and original goods. For example, kitchen accessories made of coconut tree wood in the shape of a manhood, etc. Here, in the market, tourists and locals, tired of long shopping, can have a bite to eat. It is easy to come to the market from anywhere on the island.
Duong Dong is the main city of Phu Quoc Island. Most of the hotels, cafes and restaurants, the airport, the central market, banks, post office, travel agencies, etc. are located here. But in its appearance, Duong Dong bears little resemblance to a city and more closely matches the atmosphere of an island intended for a beach holiday.
In the local dialect, the town is called Duong Dong. It is located on the west coast, close to Long Beach. Around Duong Dong are the main attractions of the island.
Suoi Tran waterfall is located seven kilometers southeast towards the village of Ham Nin. And six kilometers east of the city- Suoi Ba Dan waterfall. Both are considered the most famous in Phu Quoc, due to the picturesque vegetation that surrounds them, as well as the many natural pools for swimming.
If you drive three kilometers to the south, you can see a modern six-story building. This is a private museum, the only one in Fukuoka. Its collection contains skeletons of marine life and animals, stone and bronze tools, ceramic objects, documents, photographs - everything that can tell about the history of the island.
In the town itself, it is worth visiting the Cau Palace, built in honor of Thien Hau, the sea goddess. This small temple is located on a rock unusual shape. Once there was a lighthouse marking the mouth of the Duong Dong River. In 1937, a Buddhist temple appeared nearby, which became a symbol of the island. For locals, most of whom are engaged in fishing, this is a cult place where they worship the goddess of the sea.
Not far from the center of Duang Dong is the oldest pagoda on the island, Sung Hyng. It was erected at the beginning of the last century, survived two restorations, and, at the same time, retained the uniqueness of architecture. Another pagoda, Seo Myon, stands five kilometers from the center. She is immersed in lush greenery and personifies peace.
The main revival in the rural tranquility of the town is brought by the night market, colorful in an oriental way, where you can buy everything - from seafood to pearls, tea, coffee and medicinal potions.
