The construction of Zvartnots Airport began in 1959. The project was developed by a group of architects: A. Tarkhanyan, S. Khachikyan, L. Cherkezyan, Zh. Shekhlyan and designer S. Baghdasaryan. The opening of the airport took place in 1961, but the final plan of the architects was realized only in 1980, when the "white" terminal was put into operation.
