For many passengers, boarding Aeroflot aircraft and checking in for a flight raises many questions. It is not always clear when to arrive at the airport and what actions to take before the aircraft departs. It is important to understand that the process of passenger check-in and boarding requires more time when compared to a similar process at a railway station or bus stop. This is due to the need to go through security and baggage checks. Below we will consider how much the boarding ends, as well as when to arrive in order to avoid being late for the flight.
Arrival time
In order to avoid delays in departure, it is advisable to arrive for check-in and check-in at the airport in advance in order to have time to check-in for boarding at Aeroflot. These rules may vary depending on the airport. For example, in Sheremetyevo (Moscow), flight check-in starts:
- 2 hours before for a domestic flight.
- 2.5 hours for an international flight.

What to do at the airport, and how long does it take to board Aeroflot planes?
After arriving at the terminal, the passenger must go through all the formalities and proceed to board the flight. First you need to study the information that is given on a special scoreboard. If you have luggage, the latter must be checked in at the check-in desk. To avoid delays in departure, it is worth clarifying the baggage rules in advance, as well as making sure that the cargo being transported meets the requirements for dimensions and weight. Otherwise, you will have to pay in excess of the norm.
Find out in advance how long the registration ends. The deadline is 40 minutes before the departure of the aircraft. Many people forget that after arrival, they need to go through security control, and in the case of a flight between countries, border and customs clearance. Please also note that on Aeroflot aircraft, boarding for the flight ends 20 minutes before the departure of the aircraft (indicated on the ticket). There is an exception for flights to St. Petersburg - check-in here ends half an hour before departure.
As for things, you can drop off checked baggage at Sheremetyevo no later than 45 minutes before departure. Registration is made on special racks DROP OFF. If there is none at the airport, check-in is carried out at a regular counter. When boarding an Aeroflot flight, it is recommended to present a boarding pass and a personal document (passport).
First of all, three categories of passengers pass on board:
- Adults with children.
- Passengers with Sky Team cars (Elite class and Elite Plus).
- Business class clients.
Everything is easy and simple, and for this it is best to read our photo instructions.
Step 1 - we must have an air ticket (if purchased or a printout of an electronic ticket), a valid international passport (with a visa, if required by the state of your arrival or transit).
Your things are packed in a suitcase and separately in a bag that you will take with you as hand luggage. In advance, you have already specified the allowed baggage allowance (weight and number of bags) that you can carry for free, and if there are more things, then you have a deferral amount or a card replenished in case of an extra charge for excess.
Copies of all your documents, numbers of the necessary phone numbers are packed in luggage or emailed to insure against loss - easy to restore if you have copies of the originals
Step 2 - arrive at the airport at least an hour before departure. The larger the airport of departure and the less your knowledge of a foreign language, the earlier it is better to leave home.
If you are not familiar with the structure of the airport, it is better to arrive in advance so that in a calm atmosphere in a couple of extra hours you can figure out where you should go. At large airports, the distance between the terminals is very large and the connection between them by bus, this must always be taken into account.
Check-in starts 2 hours before and ends 1 hour or 40 minutes before departure. Sometimes you can check in a few minutes before departure, if the airport has special counters for late check-in, but in this case you will have to pay a fine for being late.
Attention! The date of departure and the time of departure of the aircraft on the ticket are always indicated in local time.
Step 3 - at the airport, find the information board (large screen), on which you find your airline, flight number, city of arrival and the number of the counter you need to go to in order to check in.
Step 4 - go to the counter - show your ticket, passport and your things. For your peace of mind, you can rent your favorite suitcase on your mobile phone.
The baggage will be weighed, customs inspection will be carried out, a baggage tag will be hung on it, a tear-off ticket will be issued to you, and the baggage itself will be sent along the conveyor belt to the loaders. You will no longer have access to your baggage. Hand luggage will be weighed, tagged and given to you.
It will fly with you over your seat in the cabin or under the seat in front of the seated passenger. Some airlines very strictly monitor compliance with the size of hand luggage (55x40x20) and, if exceeded, impose a fine.
After all this, you will be issued a boarding pass. The coupon indicates your seat in the aircraft cabin (you have the right to express your wishes when choosing a seat) and the main gate number GATE (translated from English passage, exit) from which you will be taken to the aircraft cabin. That's it - registration successfully completed!
Step 5 - After that, you go through passport control, (presenting your passport, boarding pass) and head to the waiting area with duty-free shops. Relaxing, admiring the runway, making gifts for yourself, loved ones and waiting on the speakerphone for an announcement to board the plane.
After the boarding announcement, go to the gate number indicated on your boarding pass and start your journey. You can yourself, without waiting for the announcement, go to the desired exit (gate), boarding the plane begins after the end of registration.
In exceptional cases, they change the gate/exit number for your flight (it will differ from the one written in the boarding pass), so always pay attention to announcements over the speakerphone or follow the changes to your flight on the monitors in the departure area.
Pre-flight baggage screening for departures to the USA, Israel and conflict zones takes several hours, due to the complete and thorough screening of all passengers' belongings.
Duty Free in English - duty free shops.
In order to buy e-ticket on a plane, you need to go to the website of the corresponding airline and select the desired flight. After paying for the ticket, full information about the flight will be sent to the client's e-mail and phone. Then you will need to fill out a special registration form on the site.
Main points of electronic registration
Electronic check-in for an airplane is easy. First you need to enter a special booking number (it is sent to the client’s mail or phone) and the passenger’s last name. After that, you need to specify the country of residence, citizenship and full passport details.
Then you can choose any seat in the cabin. This is an advantage of online check-in, as seat selection is not available during regular check-in. Sometimes there are cases when the airline may change your seat to another one (for example, for reasons of aviation security).
After finishing electronic registration it is necessary to print the boarding pass, as before boarding you will need to present this pass and the passenger's passport. The ticket can also be received on a mobile phone and presented upon boarding from the screen of the device. In addition, at some airports it is possible to print your boarding pass at special kiosks if you forgot to do it at home.
Advantages and disadvantages of electronic registration
But electronic registration for an airplane has its own nuances. For example, online check-in is not allowed for passengers who travel with animals, passengers carrying dangerous goods or who have bought tickets through travel companies, as well as for group tickets (from nine or more people).
Electronic check-in starts approximately 24 hours and ends 1-2 hours before the departure of the aircraft. If the passenger has luggage with him, then he will also have to check in at the baggage drop desk. In some countries that require a visa, you will need to queue again to go through the visa verification process.
Electronic registration also has its advantages. First, you can check in for a flight without leaving your home. At the airport, you only need to present your boarding pass, which is sent to the e-mail or phone number specified during check-in. You can also change any flight details without having to go to the airport or travel agency. And finally, online check-in is free, while at the airport you may be asked to pay money for this.
