What to do if you are stuck in a foreign city without money? How to survive in the city without money? School of survival. Tested on myself. How to survive without money in a foreign city? Survival in a strange city
If you look at the previous post about, it turns out that I am a type of “resident tourist”. These are tourists who are not chasing sights, but, as it were, “trying on” local life in different countries:) Of course, this is a bit like the first stage of preparation for, but this is not entirely true. I travel just to enjoy life.
I think each of you has your own list of pleasant activities - all people are different, so many do something different when traveling :) So, what I like to do in an unfamiliar city is traveling on my own. On the vskidku turned out a list of 15 items.
1. Leave at random by transport, return on foot
I like to leave in the morning further into the city by metro or bus, and return to the hotel on foot, using a map or navigator in. This develops the skills of orienteering in the area. After a couple of days of such trips, an unfamiliar city becomes more understandable.
Leave at random in the city, return to the hotel on the map or on the navigator. On the picture:
2. Contemplate local life through a coffee shop window
Traveling alone, a person is not particularly limited in time. Therefore, you can easily sit in a bar or in a coffee shop by the window, watching the bustle of the street. This is the best way to look at an unfamiliar city. It is especially chic when it is hot outside, but inside it is cool, empty and good music plays. It's a pity that this almost never happens. major cities like Barcelona.
Coffee houses - best places for all travelers. On the picture:
3. Explore the city while walking along the river
Do you want an unfamiliar city to open before you for real? Then take a boat trip along the river. It is especially great when you can ride both during the day and in the evening. For example -
4. Find non-tourist lookouts
Finding non-tourist high-altitude observation decks in or near a city is like a sport - exciting and useful. For example, here is a great observation deck.
Finding a non-tourist observation deck is always an interesting quest. Pictured: Barcelona, Spain
5. Ask the price of housing
A good exercise is to walk around the city, stop at the windows of real estate offices and deal with local offers and prices, imagining that I am ready to buy a house for myself here.
6. Arrange a fitness with the locals
The most positive way to get to know a foreign city is to go jogging in the park with local residents. This is especially well done in, in the huge Retiro Park.
7. Explore local markets
I like going to local markets, whether food or flea markets. In such places there is always something to see, try and photograph.
Morning walk through the local market. In the photo: the market in
8. Master local transport
Ride on local transport, especially or in - a very informative and exciting thing. You can immediately form your first opinion about the city and its inhabitants. In Europe, you can do it everywhere :)
In a European city, it is nice to ride a local tram. In the photo: a tram in Porto, Portugal
9. Read in the park
Sitting in the park in the middle of the day, reading a good and real (paper) book - what could be better? :) This requires a shady park, good benches and non-tourist silence.
10. Find new and pleasant cafes and restaurants
I love discovering new cafes and restaurants. Wandering around the city, it is very pleasant to get tired and then relax in one of the unfamiliar cafes. It's like a game - you need to guess by several signs in which cafe or bar the food is tastier.
Finding new cafes is a real sport and pleasure. In the photo: a cafe overlooking the
11. Slowly learn a foreign language in practice
Learn one or two new words in the local language every day. It is best to train with sellers or waiters - they are always ready to explain something to a funny foreigner :) That's how I remembered my first ones.
12. Live in an apartment like a local
Sometimes it's very nice to forget about hotels for a while and rent a local apartment. On several occasions I managed to find very unusual and pleasant lodgings, once it was a loft in Valencia, the other time it was a small house with stone walls in Denia.
In the photo: it is always interesting to try unusual accommodation
13. Walk along the embankments
I like to walk along the long seaside promenades. Traveling around Europe, I sometimes even choose a city for my next trip, focusing on whether it has a good embankment or not. The longest and most comfortable embankments, in my opinion, are in seaside cities Spain, France, Italy and Turkey.
When we only think about moving to another city, we are overwhelmed with enthusiasm: everything will be new there, we will be able to start life from scratch, we will start playing sports, devote time to self-development and, in general, we will finally realize all the dreams and desires that -something reasons did not materialize at the old place of residence. However, already a month after the move, we begin to feel lonely and understand that there is no one around who could support us in difficult times.
Of course, everyone experiences moving to a new place differently, and for some it comes quite easily, especially if there is a loving family nearby. But what about those who alone decide to change the city of permanent residence, hoping for new successes, but stumbles only on loneliness and a complete lack of desire to leave the house at all?
Such people feel as if they are in the middle of a huge square, on which, apart from them, there is not a single person: there is no one to talk to, no one to entrust the innermost, even on a day off to meet, and then there is no one. All friends stayed where they left, and now they do not understand at all what they are doing here.
If you find yourself in a similar situation, then you perfectly understand what we are talking about. Surely you want to get rid of nostalgia for your hometown, starting to live here and now. It is impossible to always yearn for the past, this is tantamount to moving backwards, and you obviously didn’t change your life so drastically for this, right? Let's figure out together how to adapt to staying in a foreign city so that after some time it does not seem so alien.
Find a job
If you feel that you are sorely lacking in communication, then solve this problem in the simplest way - get a job. Common tasks that you will solve daily with colleagues will help you get used to life in a new place faster, and communication with people for whom this city is native will allow you to learn much more about it than if you just read articles on the Internet . In addition, often among colleagues there are those who are able to understand the "newbie" from a half-word and subsequently become his friend.
Sign up for courses
Choose what you like: a foreign language, scrapbooking or decoupage classes, a vocal studio or workouts in the fitness room - the main thing is that your leisure time brings you pleasure, as well as a great platform for meeting new people. United by common interests, you will quickly find topics for conversation, which means that the chances of finding a new friend or at least a good comrade will increase significantly.
Be sure to walk, and nothing bad will happen if at first you start doing it alone.
Don't stay at home
Be sure to walk, and nothing bad will happen if at first you start doing it alone. Don't limit your trips out of the house to going to the nearest grocery store, on the contrary, take the time to explore the city: visit its different districts and meet a "new friend". Believe me, it is very interesting to look at other - not the same as in your hometown - buildings, find the right shops and enjoy your own little discoveries.
Don't stay at home - 2
In addition to getting to know the city itself, it will be useful to get acquainted with its cultural life. Concerts, performances, sports and other mass events - all this will make you feel that you do not live in a vacuum, that there are people around you and they spend time interestingly, try to diversify their leisure time so as not to “go out”, like you, in four walls.
Contact a psychologist
If you feel that you can’t cope with prolonged depression on your own, do not hesitate to contact a psychologist. The specialist will help you understand the roots of the problem, as well as find ways to solve it. And, in the end, this is also a kind of communication. Albeit for a fixed fee.
Coming back is not a shame
Most people who understand that they absolutely cannot settle down in a new place still do not return to their hometown, considering such an act as an admission of their own insolvency. They think that they will be ridiculed, shamed and generally not accepted into their circle. But this is fundamentally a misconception. Those who truly love you will not scoff at your ambitious plans. They will rejoice at the return of a friend, sister, and daughter, because they probably miss you as much as you miss them. Therefore, do not be afraid to return to where you are drawn, like a magnet. Sometimes you have to leave to understand that you want to come back.
Do not be afraid to return to where you are drawn, like a magnet. Sometimes you have to leave to understand that you want to come back.
And finally: treat all difficulties as temporary phenomena. Another six months will pass, and you will be surprised to remember how you cried and yearned for a past life. Be open to everything new, and perhaps very soon you will meet someone who will become the most important person in your life.
What to do if you are stuck in a strange city and how to survive in a city without money? A story from the personal life of one of our readers
The situation was real, happened to me in 2006. I went to the festival, taking with me canned food, a warm sweater, a credit card and a phone. Due to inexperience, I left my passport at home. In a foreign city, when there were 14 kopecks left in my pocket, I decided to cash out some of the money. The card was stuck in the ATM without dispensing cash. Outcome: midnight, penniless, foreign city.
We urgently need to decide how to find a way out of the situation. If you find yourself in a similar situation, it is worth fulfilling a number of requirements.
By the way, the article -. And another article - salvation or utopia?
How to survive in a foreign city without money?
In no case should you panic. Do not call relatives in the middle of the night, as they will be in a panic, and they will not be able to help. At night, warm up as much as possible, and try to determine your location, as well as determine how far the station, railway or bus station is from you.
It is pointless to roam around the city at night, but at the station you can change your mind in the waiting room. You can also spend the night in the monastery. If you pass near the church and the light is on in it, feel free to knock. So they helped me in another city. On the way to the station, notice for yourself the bank branches that you pass and the signs on them about money transfers. A card without documents would not have been restored to me, and this is a long procedure, it would not have been possible to cash out the money either. This will not be the task.
Arriving at the station - estimate how many patrols go in it. It is not advisable to turn to our police for help, you can spend the night in a prison. By law, until they find out the identity. In the list of trains - find the train that leaves at 7 am. Assessing the situation, try to fall asleep in a free chair, shifting the phone into an inside pocket. If the police come up - name the train from the stand, and that you are waiting for its departure, and the tickets from a friend who will come from the suburbs.
After some sleep, put yourself in order, and immediately head to the bank. Since there are no documents, it is possible to receive a transfer to a bank employee. It’s better to ask girls by telling your true story. If anyone agrees, then immediately call your relatives. There will be unrest, but you have a solution, you can calm them down.
You receive a transfer, the minimum amount of which is the cost of a ticket home, and the cost of one rose and a chocolate bar. You give the girl a gift for help, maybe the agreed amount, which is unlikely, you go to the station - you buy a train ticket home.
The way out is to hand over things to a pawnshop in order to live a little without money in a foreign city
If no concessions were made in any of the bank branches, then look for a pawnshop. Hand over the phone. You can find out their details and ask to send the device to the specified address, which is also unlikely. If not here, then call everyone you know, in this city at least someone should have a friend or relative. Perform an operation with a transfer to it.
I think this situation arose only with me, although they gave me a card for a chocolate bar, I glued it with tape and went to the festival.
In this article, we found out where to spend the night in a foreign city, how to survive in a city without money, and how to solve all problems. But most importantly, don't panic, and don't panic others. You can live without money, there are good people everywhere.
Have you had such cases when you were left without a penny in your pocket in a foreign city?
Hello. My name is Maria, I am 19 years old. I have been living with myself for 10 years, I have no friends, no good relations with the pedigree. Until the age of 10, I was just a golden girl, as they say. full, but from birth with strabismus and small stature. After 10, everything went wrong ... the height remained at 146 cm and the weight went on, the guys started teasing, then the name-calling and mockery of the girls and I closed myself. Since then I alone with parents not a very relationship, it’s hard for them to tell everything, they don’t understand a lot, they quit karate, they didn’t give a damn to everyone who opened their souls and left. So I was left completely alone. having said to another city to a young man. But even then depression found me even more. I am alone, everyone who was once nearby remained in another city, the young man began to devote less time, relations with my mother-in-law did not work out and I am sitting one and a half years at home without going further than a grocery store. Out of grief, she got herself a dog, but even more crush from her mother-in-law and boyfriend went with her. suicide attempt. I'm already tired of loneliness and mockery.

Maria, as I see it, your main problem is that you are now in another city and are completely dependent on the money and living space of your mother-in-law and boyfriend. Try to talk to a guy - maybe there is an opportunity to move to a rented apartment and live together? If this does not work out, then try to enter some university with a hostel and move there. The main thing now is to be autonomous, and not depend on someone. And don’t pay attention to mockery, especially because of height, and weight can be adjusted.

Dear Masha!
Do not worry if the relationship with this person does not work out the way you would like it to, you will find another who will give you enough time and serve as a good support for you. It seems to me that you were in a hurry, moving immediately to another city, you should have returned home in the event of your separation.
I advise you to look for friends on the Internet, preferably those who live near you. One day you will want to meet in life and in this way you will make real friends in your life!
Be careful! Don't open up completely to those you don't quite know yet, because their betrayal can hurt you! People do not always appreciate everything that is revealed to them.
If you studied well, then you are smart and capable - open yourself in some kind of occupation, so you will learn to value yourself and interest others in yourself! By the way, many guys love girls with small stature, but you seem full because of your small stature and increased weight, try to play sports more and the weight will decrease.
Killing yourself because of all these problems is absolutely crazy and unnecessary. Drop this thought and think better about your inner component, engage in self-improvement in order to start liking yourself. You should not hate your Self - you are a personality, an individuality and the task of your whole life is to transform this personality, improve it, bring shine and purity. Everything will be fine for you. Peace to you.

Hello. First, accept yourself for who you are. In this life, we each have our own problems, but we must overcome them with dignity. Deal with your boyfriend (+ mother-in-law). If you don't see a future with him, then leave. Close, native people should support you. Ask God for help, let him lead you on the right path, strengthen yourself spiritually, go to church. The main thing is to solve your problems. First, talk, explain your point of view (you are not strangers), and then draw conclusions.
Patience you, do not give up, soon it will end and you will become even stronger.
God's help.

Masha, it feels like you are not living your own life. That is why you are depressed. It's like you've led yourself into a trap. But everything is fixable: pray to Matronushka and admonishment. Think about what you would like in this life for yourself. How do you imagine your life in 5 years? And what can you do now to fulfill your idea.
In relations with your husband, and with other people of both sexes, look at the actions of these people .. in relation to both you and other people. And do not rush either in making decisions or in opening your soul to other people. No wonder they say, you go quieter, you will continue.
Start exercising again. You are such a wonderful age. The body responds to physical activity. As for growth, I understand that now you are bothering, because there is no general peace in your soul. And when a person is not calm, he will also have complexes about being too tall, or a nose that is too small / large, etc. As they say, just give me a reason;) Height does not really matter, really. Many celebrities are short: Kylie Minogue, Eva Longoria, Nicky Blonsky (a gorgeous singer, only 147 cm tall!)
I support you very much. Good luck in finding peace of mind.
