What to see with children in Phuket.
4.8 (96.67%) 6 votesSomehow it happened that lately I have been actively involved in organizing frequenttours around the island. By the way, I’m still working on it, if you have anything, write me. But that's not what this is about. There have been many requests for holidays with children. Therefore, from time to time I had to rack my brains about what interesting things to show, how to do it better, and what children generally like. Of course, I didn’t rack my brains on my own, but together with my parents. We discussed by mail, during personal meetings and during discussions, the same picture of interests emerged.
And the other day, quite by chance, I heard a speech from a mother who, either with a friend or with her mother, was discussing what she should watch with her children. I will again omit the details of where I heard this and how it happened. But after this conversation, I had a clear opinion that neither vacationers nor most guides have a clear idea of how to more correctly spend a vacation with children on the island and what to show them.
Well, if there is a demand, then you need to write about it. Moreover, there is experience and some developments.
I immediately checked the availability of reviews on the Internet, but I didn’t find anything sensible. Some in the reviews sent their children to the museum, others to a monkey farm, which is not here at all. And someone suggested going to...

Anyone who goes on holiday to Phuket with children has many questions, because holidays with children in Phuket are associated with various aspects that are worth paying attention to.
What season is best to travel with children?
Not in the highest period - December-January, during this period there are a lot of tourists. Many families like to come between February and July, when Phuket is no longer as crowded with tourists. Until May, as a rule, the water is calm, and starting from May the monsoon wind changes its direction and begins to blow from the sea, thereby bringing moisture. At this time, waves appear and the amount of precipitation increases. It’s worth immediately reassuring those who think that precipitation in Phuket means continuous rain. This is wrong. Yes, there is more precipitation, but not critically; at the same time, it is not as hot as in March-April and many people like it. The heaviest rains usually occur in August-September. Of course, nature can present surprises and shifts in periods are possible, but in general, year after year, the climate picture is close to that described above.
Which beach to stay at?
To Phuket with children: Koh Samui
A beach with clean and calm water (not as busy as Patong) is suitable for families with children. In this matter, much depends on the age of the child. Mothers believe that: “With kids, beaches like Kata or Karon are better, but with children 6 years old and older, you can relax in Patong.” It is also worth noting Naiharn Beach in the south of the island, where almost all year round, a natural tidal pool forms next to the beach.
Hotel selection
The main thing is the availability of infrastructure in the area of the hotel (cafes, restaurants). Below we will publish a list of hotels about which we receive positive feedback from our clients and readers.
Choosing a hotel in Phuket if you are traveling with children:
Casadel Sol Kata, Sunwing Bangtao, Sunwing Kamala, JW Marriott, Angsana.
Selection of excursions
With children, on the one hand, you can go on excursions to the islands and attend various shows. Quite often you can see Europeans who, with 5-6 month old children, calmly travel around the islands. But, in this case, you need to pay attention to weather conditions: if there is a big wave at sea, then the choice of sea excursions will, of course, be limited. Many sea trips, such as to PhiPi, Krabi, James Bond, take about an hour by boat. The boat ride to Similan, Tachai and Surin will take 1.5-2 hours, which is quite tiring for a small child. At the same time, there are also closer islands with an easy and not tiring program, such as Coral Island. Please also keep in mind that before you get to the pier from where the boat departs, you will be collected from your hotels and this takes approximately 30-60 minutes.
You can ride the elephants separately, or you can go on an excursion that takes the whole day and includes an elephant ride. It is worth considering that the trip is organized for a group of tourists and, most often, it is impossible to separate from the group and return to the hotel if the child suddenly becomes capricious or tired.
To Phuket with children: on a Rafting excursion to Phang Nga province
To Phuket with children: Phi Phi Island
In the first days of rest, until adaptation takes place, it is advisable not to go on any excursions. Adult tourists should heed this advice, and even more so when traveling with children. After a couple of days, when you get used to the climate and food, and if everything goes well, you can choose any excursion or show to your liking, but do not forget about the tips given above.
What to feed your baby in Phuket?
Feeding a child, as a rule, does not cause any difficulties. Fish, meat, rice, fruits, soups - everything is there. People come with one-year-old children and there are usually no problems with feeding. There is a children's menu. Purees and baby food are not sold in hotels, but they can be bought in stores and shopping centers.
Examples of some Thai dishes that children can eat (name in Thai in brackets):
Chicken soup with coconut milk - Tom ka gai (ต้มข่าไก่);
Chicken with cashew nuts - Gai pad met mamuang (ไก่ผัดเม็ดมะม่วง);
Fried vegetables - Pad pak ruam (ผัดผักรวม);
Fried rice with shrimp/chicken/pork - Khao pad goong/gai/muu (ข้าวผัด ไก่/กุ้ง/หมู);
Omelette - Kai tiyao (ไข่เจี้ยว).
First aid kit
We will not list what medical supplies you need to take with you, we only want to remind you so that you do not forget to pack a first aid kit. Of course, it is possible that all medicines are sold in Phuket, but they may be called differently and you will be calmer if you take your proven medicines. What can often happen to a child in Phuket: sun allergy, salt water allergy, diarrhea, sun burn, abrasions.
Buying children's clothing in Phuket
There are many stores in Phuket where you can buy children's clothing: Cenral Festival, Tesco Lotus, Big C. It is worth considering that the stores are not in the resort area and you need to take a taxi to them, which can take 30-50 minutes depending on the your location and traffic on the road. Cenral Festival sells branded clothing from famous brands at the same prices as in Russia. In such “folk” stores as BigC and Tesco Lotus they sell children's clothing made from high-quality materials from Thai manufacturers, which is exactly what mothers most often need.

Should I take toys and a swimming vest with me?
We recommend taking a couple of books on the plane. You can also bring buckets and scoops to keep the kids occupied on the beach - they love it. If it is inconvenient to carry, many toys can be bought in shopping centers, as well as in stalls on the street or in small beach shops.
To Phuket with children: Kai Nok Island
What should a child wear on the flight, what clothes and shoes should he take?
To prevent your child from getting cold and hot, dress him in light casual clothes on the plane, for example, denim overalls with a T-shirt and sandals with socks, and on the bus, so as not to freeze and not get blown by the air conditioner, take a light blouse. As a rule, it can be quite cool on the plane, especially if you are flying domestically within Thailand. Therefore, we recommend taking a warm blouse or small blanket for children.
Are there dairy products on the island?
Yes, there is good milk in stores, as well as yoghurts. Products such as kefir and cottage cheese are very difficult to find, almost impossible.
Should I take diapers with me?
You need to take it for the first time, then you can buy more in the store.
Where are the playgrounds?
Closed
Shopping center Patong Promenade, children's zone (Patong Promenade, kids zone);
Shopping center Jung Ceylon, 3rd floor (Jung Ceylon)
In the Central Festival shopping center there is a children's area on the 4th floor. It's not very interesting, but you can leave the child if he's 4 and go shopping.
Children's center Gymboree (Gymboree) on the first floor in the Central Festival, where children make various crafts, but this is also for children from 4-x.
In the Laguna area at the Angsana hotel.
Street
Frame Park 9, in Phuket
Naiharn, near the lake, opposite the temple, there is an entrance to the island, parking near the site.
Children's Center "KIDS PLANET"
Stroller- some say “definitely TAKE IT, it will be very useful.” If you all decide to buy a stroller in Phuket, then you will need to go to the above-mentioned stores.
Children's sun cream— you can buy it in Thailand, but after checking into the hotel you don’t want to run around looking for cream - it’s better to go straight to the beach, so take it with you. It is recommended for a child to take a cream with a protection level of at least 50.
Pot— We’ll still have to look for it in Phuket.
Laundry soap— children often get their clothes dirty, and it’s not advisable to hand over one dress or T-shirt for washing. In this regard, take soap and another rope so that you can stretch it on the balcony and quickly dry your clothes (it can take a long time to dry in the room).
If the child is a girl, then more rubber bands and bobby pins to collect hair, otherwise it will make the child hot.
Headdress for a child, it is necessary to have a brim so that the ears do not get burned (no caps) and light, loose clothing with long sleeves, such as a tunic, T-shirt or shirt, so as not to get a sunburn. As a rule, the upper part of the body burns, and the legs are much less common.
Beach shoes- can be bought in Thailand, there is a good selection here.
Swimsuit— take 1 for sure, you can also buy in Thailand as a replacement so that you don’t run around wet.
Personal hygiene items— take with you (toothbrush, special baby toothpaste, etc.). You don’t have to run around shopping for everything after you arrive.
Holidays in Phuket with children are easy and safe, since right on the island you can find all the necessary children's accessories, including baby food and toys. If necessary, you can buy medicine or consult a professional doctor - there are pharmacy kiosks and clinics near each beach. Add to this a well-developed road network and a wide choice of transport.
Ecology
Industrial activity on the island stopped in the middle of the last century. Nature has fully recovered both at sea and on land. Lots of greenery, clean air. There are several parks with asphalt paths. They are convenient for walking with strollers. Most noise and cars in . But there is absolutely no need to go there.
Entertainment
You won't have any problems choosing where to spend your time. You can go to and, go boating, watch the life of underwater inhabitants in. Or take part in various shows. For example, visiting an amusement park.
Minuses
Prices
At the peak of the tourist season, prices in Phuket are steep (read about prices, weather and beaches). They are higher than in Bangkok or Pattaya. But significantly lower than during the winter holidays in both capitals of Russia - St. Petersburg and Moscow.
Swimming season
From May to November, the swimming season in Phuket practically stops. It's all about frequent storms that disperse high waves. All beaches have signs prohibiting entry into the water. Naturally, various water attractions - jet skis, banana boats and other beach activities are excluded from the program.
The best beaches in Phuket for families with children
Only the western coast of Phuket is accessible for recreation, but there are also quite a few places where the rocks approach the water itself. Between them there are strips of sand with convenient entry into the sea, around which the entire tourist infrastructure is concentrated. Now we will briefly describe the most famous of them, and you can decide for yourself which ones fit the definition of “for holidays with children”, based on your own preferences.

Phuket is simply created for holidays with children. Everything you need for a bright, memorable family vacation on the island is in abundance.
For children and their parents, all the interesting things are within easy reach of transport (beaches, parks, children's entertainment, exciting excursions, etc.), so a family vacation can be truly vibrant, and not just a beach one. The only thing you should think about in advance is choosing a resort and choosing a good hotel.
Phuket, planning a beach holiday with children
Undoubtedly, if you are going to a resort with small children, then this fact imposes a number of obligations on you. Caring parents try to give their children the best, and Phuket allows you to choose exactly what you want. Below I have given several mandatory points, please treat them with utmost importance.
Hotel selection
Choosing a hotel where your children will be comfortable- this is the most important thing during a family vacation. There are more than 1,500 hotels on the island (see the link for details), but not all are suitable for a comfortable family holiday.
When expectant mothers came to Phuket without children, they could safely settle in the noisiest area of the island - Patong. But when the mothers had children, their interests changed, so now noisy Patong is no longer suitable for living. And for kids, they want a clean beach, a calm sea and a relaxed atmosphere, because kids are not yet interested in the nightlife on Bangla Road, or lady fights, or other Patong entertainment.
Beach selection
Which Phuket beach to choose when vacationing with small children. Holidays on remote, deserted beaches may look (sound) beautiful, but it is still desirable to have civilization within walking distance (especially for small children and very young children). Unfortunately, a good hospital in Phuket can only be found in Patong; this factor should be taken into account when looking for housing.
Even if your child is absolutely healthy, then let the hospital be 15 minutes away, so you will be much calmer.
It is worth remembering that medicine in Thailand is paid and very expensive; I strongly recommend that you take out good health insurance before your trip. For details about the features of health insurance, read this link.
Season selection
You should be more careful about the island weather. If you are traveling with children, then I would strongly recommend not going to the resort during the rainy season. . In addition, at this time of year the sea is rough and children will not be able to swim in it.
It’s probably not worth going to Phuket even in the hottest weather. In April and May there is no rain yet, but it is very hot. About the seasons in Phuket, read the link.
Choice of children's entertainment
Children's excursions and entertainment- among the numerous excursion programs there are those that are perfect for children of all ages. In addition to group excursions, you can independently visit the local zoo, aquarium, Dino Park and other places that are relevant to your child.
Here is an approximate list of parental obligations that must be fulfilled during the holidays, and now let's talk about this in more detail.
Which beach in Phuket is best for children?
There are a number of good hotels in Phuket, but unfortunately they do not accept guests with children; there are no children of any kind on their territory. Even if you come to visit friends who live in these hotels, you and your children will not be allowed into the territory. These are the local rules, although many of them are located in very convenient places, usually on the first line.
Here's what you should know when choosing a hotel if you're organizing a family vacation on your own. Stay in hotels of 4 stars and above, especially if you are used to Turkish fives all inclusive. Asian hotels may surprise you. If you are not ready to spend your nerves and time finding out the reasons for the irregular cleaning of the room, the presence of dirty bed linen, etc., then do not book below a four.
A selection of the best hotels in Phuket for a comfortable children's holiday
Hotels should be looked for on the west coast; it is in the west of the island that the best beaches and best hotels are located. If your children are very small, and you want peace and privacy, then the best options will be on the beaches north of Patong (Kamala Beach or Bang Tao Beach).
If you want to combine a family vacation with shopping and dining, then the best options will be south of Patong, on the beaches of Karon and Kata. Family holidays on the beaches of Kata and Karon are much more diverse than on Kamala and Bang Tao.
Karon Beach, the best hotels for families
Mövenpick Resort & Spa on Karon Beach
Reviews from tourists about the Moevenpick Resort and Spa Karon Beach from the tophotels website:
The hotel is good, beautiful green area, excellent service. We were greeted with flower beads. The contingent at the hotel is families with children, elderly people. There are Chinese. The area looks like a real botanical garden, three swimming pools, a children's playground, and restaurants. The entire territory is monitored, everything is clean, everything is washed and wiped every day, even the ashtrays at the entrance to the hotel with a pattern and an orchid. In the hotel bars, prices for drinks and food are twice as expensive as in surrounding establishments, but this is not a problem, because you can eat outside the hotel.
At breakfast there is a good selection of food, both Thai and European cuisine, fruits. Unfortunately, there are no porridges for children, but there are omelettes, pastries, and pancakes. We have heard about the existence of animation, but have never seen it. Once we went to the children's club, you can leave your child there, there will be nannies and teachers with them who conduct master classes on making all sorts of crafts, very good.
During the day, there is live music at the reception from Thai girls in national clothes. In the evening the hotel is calm.
The service is good, attentive and helpful in any matter, thanks to them for that. The room is cleaned every day, bed linen is changed approximately every two days.Leave a tip and the service will be even better, flowers on the bed, figures made from towels, and in the evening they will prepare the bed for bed.
Hilton Phuket Arcadia Resort & Spa on Karon Beach
Reviews from tourists about the Hilton Phuket Arcadia Resort & Spa from the tophotels website:
Hilton Phuket is a wonderful hotel, the territory is huge, beautiful and well-groomed. If you are vacationing with children, children will find it interesting and educational here. You can feed the fish in the small lagoon, look at the peacock, and feed the rabbits on the mini-golf course. The hotel has an excellent children's club (open until 18:00), you can leave your child and go shopping with peace of mind, having previously chosen from the restaurant menu what the child will eat for lunch. The pools are clean and large, with children's slides, the kids were delighted.
A deposit is taken upon arrival and will be returned to you on the day of departure. The food is good, tasty and high quality, the children like it. The room cleaning is perfect, they clean it twice a day, then the manager comes and asks if you are happy with everything. If you are going on vacation with children, then this is the best hotel on Karon Beach. We really liked it.
Le Meridien Phuket Beach Resort on Karon Noi Beach
Reviews from tourists about the Le Meridien Phuket Beach Resort hotel from the tophotels website:
Le Meridien hotel met all our expectations. We vacationed with a 2.5 year old child, it was very comfortable. Compact, well-maintained, clean hotel and friendly staff.
It is very comfortable to move around with a stroller; there are ramps throughout the entire territory. The hotel has an excellent clean beach with a house for children and lots of toys, and the hotel itself has a good children's club and playground. There is a buffet for dinner (it is convenient for the child to choose food and not have to wait) and excellent restaurants with children's menus.
In the evenings there is costume entertainment, children are delighted, and parents can dine in peace. The rooms are excellent, the beds are wide and the staff are friendly and helpful. For adults, there are volleyball, basketball courts, tennis courts, golf lessons, scuba diving, gym and much more.
We liked everything, we will definitely come back.
Kata Beach, the best hotels for tourists with children
PGS Hotels Casa del Sol on Kata Beach
Reviews from tourists about the PGS Hotels Casa del Sol from the tophotels website:
We stayed in this hotel as a family with two children. There is a lot of greenery on the territory, there is a place to walk with your baby, see fish, cats or play in the playroom. Our eldest child did not get out of the pools, but in the evening he went to watch cartoons and made many new friends there.
We lived in the fourth building, on the fifth floor in a room with a jacuzzi (the elevator worked properly). Our huge balcony had a very beautiful view. The room is quite spacious, the mattresses on the beds are comfortable. A great addition was the kitchen corner, with microwave and sink. We didn't notice any insects in the room; once a lizard came to visit.
It’s in vain that they write about the indifferent staff, we asked for a baby bath and a potty, they brought everything instantly, we asked for a protective net on the balcony, they did it right away. Everyone is friendly and smiling. We didn’t apply again (there was no need), everything was fine!
To my taste, everything you need for a normal breakfast is here: oatmeal, yoghurt, fruit, pastries, etc. The only thing missing was porridge for small children, and there are a lot of children in this hotel.
The location is normal, away from the noisy road, not far from the sea. I will go here again.
Nai Harn Beach, the best hotels for children's holidays
The Nai Harn Hotel on Nai Harn Beach
Reviews from tourists about The Nai Harn hotel from the tophotels website:
We vacationed in this hotel with small children in January. It is located on the picturesque Nai Harn beach, far from the bustling Thai life, this is its main advantage! The buildings are located on a hill, so all rooms have amazing sea views. Each room has its own terrace with a sofa, armchairs and sun loungers, which is very comfortable. Standard rooms are not large, but very cozy.
The breakfasts are just super, on Fridays there is an evening seafood dinner (buffet: mussels, fish, shrimp, squid, etc.) for an additional fee of 1,500 baht per person, very tasty. The hotel has a large, beautiful terrace overlooking the sea in the lobby where you can drink coffee and watch the sunset. We liked the hotel, I recommend it for a quiet, relaxing holiday with children.
Hotels on Kamala Beach that are suitable for tourists with children
Sunwing Resort - Kamala Beach Hotel on Kamala Beach
Reviews from tourists about the Sunwing Resort - Kamala Beach hotel from the tophotels website:
We stayed in this hotel for 14 nights from October 30th. We were four adults and a 1.7 year old child. We booked several Happy baby and Royal Pool rooms. We made a good choice. With a child, the ideal option is the Happy baby room, because... There is a private lawn at the exit from the room. In the Happy baby room, everything is taken into account for a holiday with a small child. All sharp corners are closed, there is a children's bathroom, dishes, etc. The hotel has separate children's pools. There are joint ones with a gentle entrance.
Breakfast is very good with a lot of choice. Everything is delicious and without spices.
Rare for Thailand, animation every evening. And magic tricks and dancing and songs and other entertainment.
The hotel is well located. Nice beach. A gentle entrance to the sea, which is important with small children. There are a lot of cafes in the surrounding area. There is a Bis-S store and 7/11 nearby. A small fruit market on the bridge.
Excellent hotel! Best for holidays with small children. The beach is much better than Kata in terms of safety for children.
Children's hotels on Bang Tao beach
Sunwing Resort & Spa Bangtao Beach Hotel on Bang Tao Beach
Tourist reviews of the Sunwing Resort & Spa Bangtao Beach hotel from the agoda website:
The hotel is family-run, located on the seashore on Bang Tao beach. There are several swimming pools of varying depths on the territory, and there is a children's slide.
Every morning, water from the pool was taken for analysis. The area is beautiful and very well-groomed, a lot of greenery and shade. Life-size dolls walk around the area and hug the children, which greatly amuses the latter. For parents, they also conduct classes in the pool, yoga, and more. It's fun here. Coniferous trees grow along the shore, providing shade all the way to the sea (until 11 am).
Breakfast is good, in addition to standard cereal there is children's cereal, gluten-free bread, cookies and other children's goodies. If an adult orders a main course for dinner, children under 12 years old have free dinner.
The room is very cozy, there is a curtain that separates the children's beds. There is a refrigerator, kettle, microwave and a full set of dishes. Otherwise, a wonderful hotel, it is one of those where you want to return!
What excursions can you take with children?
Siam Niramit Park and Show
Dino park on Karon beach
Between the beaches of Karon and Kata there is an amazing Dino Park where children can play children's golf. The golf course is built in the style of Jurassic Park and has only 18 holes. Mini golf on a course with dinosaurs will be remembered by your children for a long time.
