Which beach is better to live on Koh Samui. All the beaches of Koh Samui and the best beaches of the island - a description from personal experience
This article is ideal for those who are planning to visit the island and want to choose the best beach on Koh Samui that they like the most.
There are a lot of beaches on Koh Samui and for each of you there is a zest on one of them that you will like the most and make you stop at the one that, in your opinion, is more interesting due to its uniqueness or for any other conditions for relaxing on German
The beaches described below by me are not complete and exhaustive. I have chosen only those that, in my opinion, are more conducive to myself.
Also, if you are going on vacation, you can book a hotel for yourself through the Roomguru service, it will immediately show you in which booking system the hotel will cost less!
Hotels on Koh SamuiHere is a list of those best beaches on this island that I turned my attention to:
#1: Ban Thai Beach
Ban Tai Beach is located in the northeast of the island itself and is a popular holiday destination for parents with children. The Mimosa Hotel is located near the beach, which is why it was called Mimosa Beach in the common people. It is located away from all the attractions of the island. Here, as a rule, not crowded, clean sand and good entry into the water.
- One of the disadvantages of the eastern beach is that it passes not far from the coast, a strip of algae and a rocky bottom 50 meters from the coast.
- But if you go to its western part, then there are all the conditions for your bathing.
Coral Cove Beach is located in a secluded bay, it is only 100 meters long. It is surrounded by rocky shores and huge boulders lie on both sides of the beach, which gives it a special atmosphere.
The beach itself leaves a pleasant impression of tranquility. The sand on it is large, yellowish in color. The water itself has a shade of bright blue.
The peculiarity of this beach is that the road to it is at the top, much higher than sea level, and you have to go down the stairs to it.
There are three Hotels in Coral Cove Chalet near the beach. There is a small cafe. The only minus it has is that there is practically no shade to hide from the scorching sun, and there are also many stones scattered in the water, scattered not far from each other.
The beach is located in the north-east of the island. The beach itself is clean, the hotel staff take care of it very well. The place for normal swimming is not so much, since there are many small stones and fragments of corals in the water to the right and left of it. So you have to be careful when swimming there.
Choeng Mon Beach is located in the northeastern part of Koh Samui.
The sea here is almost always calm, even during the wave season (from November to mid-February). The entrance to the water is gentle, and the water itself is quite transparent. True, silty areas can be found 30-40 m from the coast.
The best part of the beach is the central one, with a wide sandy line and a pleasant entry into the sea. You can swim here even at low tide.
On the outskirts of the beach there are a lot of stones and corals, and South part and not suitable for swimming.
Choeng Mon is one of the best beach destinations among tourists. And the reasons are quite obvious. With its vibrant nightlife, its powdery white sand, its palm trees, restaurants and hotels, all this and more makes Choeng Mon one of the best beaches on Koh Samui.
Choeng Mon Beach is located in a beautiful bay and is an ideal tourist destination for couples or those looking for a secluded, quiet time for themselves and their families.
Chong Mon attracts huge crowds of people of all ages. The best sand castles are made from the sand on Chonggmon. Its restaurants and cafes offer excellent cuisine designed for any visitor.
Bang Por Beach is also located in the north of the island, between the beaches of Thong Plu Bay with west side and Ban Thai Beach from the east.
The beach itself stretches for 5 km with various exit points to it from the ring road. It is usually quiet and calm on it, it is suitable for those who like quiet and secluded places. There are many restaurants and hotels that are located along the entire beach, mainly on its western side. Between April and September, the tides are not high, which is not good for swimming, as it becomes very shallow. It should be borne in mind that there are a lot of stones in the water that are not always visible.
There are no annoying salesmen here trying to sell you something. It offers a magnificent view of the island of Phagan and the national marine park islands. Here you can watch how local fishermen cast their nets early in the morning or at night.
Overhanging palms and other trees are good for shade, they also have swings and generally look like a tropical paradise. Given that this budget resort, it's excellent value for money.
Koh Samui, it seems, is not so big, but there are many beaches on it. And they are all very different, but your vacation depends on which beach you will live on. The choice of area is determined by your preferences - somewhere quiet, somewhere fun and parties. The sea is also very different, even on neighboring beaches it can be very shallow, or immediately deep, waves or complete calm. Some places are good for families with children, others for snorkeling, and others for water sports. I will try to describe beaches of Koh Samui and your opinion about them. And, of course, attach photos without embellishment and Photoshop, so that the picture is the most complete. Although, be sure to keep in mind that the appearance of the beach changes greatly depending on the season, for example, since spring the tides are pronounced on the island, the sea becomes shallow, and instead of the paradise view from the picture, you can see the bare bottom with stones. And after rains and tides, the purest sand can be covered with algae and similar marine debris. However, all popular tourist beaches are cleaned every day.
Chaweng beach
The most famous, and, at the same time, the most party beaches are Chaweng, Lamai, maenam. Many people think they are the best Koh Samui beaches.
The largest number of bars, places where parties, parties and hotels are located on Chaweng. Lamai beach is a little calmer, but there are also a lot of people, especially on tour packages. Previously, they say it was just a paradise there, but recently Lamai has been mastered by travel agencies and settled by Russians. And Maenam is quite close to all the “necessary” places, has a good developed infrastructure and offers a lot of affordable housing of different levels, although the beach is not particularly suitable for families with children, as there are strong waves. I personally like places where there are no tourists and very calm. Of course, keep in mind that my opinion about the beaches will not be complete and not particularly objective, since I lived on some, and only looked at some to swim or sit on the beach in a beach restaurant. And it may well be that I found some of the beaches not at their best times, for example, during strong low tides. Or vice versa, at a good moment, and someone will get to the beach after a strong low tide ...
The main beaches of Koh Samui description and reviews:
MaeNam beach Samui
Maenam beach
Whatever they call him - Menam, Mainam, Maenam, Maenam.
An area with a developed infrastructure, the presence of a bunch of bars and restaurants and a bathable sea. It is very conveniently located, because it is quite close to such popular tourist beaches as Chaweng and Lamai. It's not as noisy and there are fewer people. Not far from the sea, there are many not only hotels, but also small villages with a fenced area and pretty houses. If you look for housing not by the sea, but inland to the mountains, then you can save a lot, there are a lot of small villages and just houses at prices two times lower than similar housing closer to the sea. From the shore there is a good view of Koh Phangan. It is on Maenam that the Lompraya company pier is located, from which you can get to Bangkok by ferry. Also, I almost forgot to mention the post office. It can be useful to compatriots who are too “shoppy” and cannot drag off the suitcases of elephants, bloomers, sticks and other good things. Sending home twenty kilograms of purchased goods will cost three thousand rubles. True, it will take an average of a month, or maybe two. (or not at all)
Maenam beach
Infrastructure of Maenam Beach:
There are a lot of shops on Maenam, even furniture, tourist shops, clothing stores. A large number of fairly large markets, both grocery and household with all sorts of things. The famous Thai Morning Market also operates here. However, I personally got the impression that the prices on it are the same as on a simple day one, and the goods - fruits, vegetables and fish - are not much different. There are several laundromats in the area, and restaurants, bars and all sorts of hangouts are a dime a dozen. Massage parlors are everywhere. There is also a taekwondo academy for children, where Russian children are also taken. Quite a lot of kindergartens. There, on Maenam, I used to go peeling with Garra Rufa fish. I've only found it elsewhere for a much higher price.
Maenam beach
Maenam Beach:
The sand on the beach is coarse, rough for the smallest children's feet. Especially for those who are still crawling. But on the beach they clean up, because the entire coast is built up with hotels, but the feeling that it is still somewhat dirty remains. Probably because of the rather large number of tourists. But right on the beach there are cafes, it is very romantic to dine at tables on the sand by candlelight. There are palm trees and lots of shade.
Maenam beach
The sea of Maenam beach:
Will please adults, because the depth begins almost immediately. However, the wind blows almost constantly and such waves that it is absolutely impossible to bathe babies. And older kids are guaranteed to choke. The water is almost always cloudy because of the waves. There is a lot of algae at the bottom, so sometimes swimming is unpleasant.

Ban Tai beach - Ban Tai beach Samui.
Ban Tai beach
Probably my favorite beach. After all, it was on it that we spent the first six months of our life on Koh Samui. And, comparing with other beaches, we were convinced all the time that it is the best. The best for us is because we love silence and we are with a child, and the sea is not quite deep there. Finding Ban Tai is not easy, it is simply not on many maps. In fact, this is a small district, from the ring road there are only two main streets to the sea. Inside, of course, there is a network of streets, paths and paths where you can find various houses and villas for rent.
Ban Tai beach
If we talk about the area closer to the sea from the ring road, and not towards the mountains, then from any place you can walk to the beach in a maximum of 10 minutes. Yes, and on the beach itself, almost on the coastline, there are hotels and houses. Alas, I didn’t find good houses at all on the sea - either expensive hotels for 6-12 thousand a day (there are three of them), or some kind of shacks, such as our pensioners’ houses in gardening. There are several old houses in which there are interruptions in hot water and nightmarishly damp. We lived a 5-minute walk from the beach, here is a story about Our first house on Koh Samui and another one About our second. It was very good there. I also looked at the villas - you can rent a single room with a pool from 23,000, but they didn’t impress me at all. Of the minuses - right on the deserted beach in the spring of 2013, they decided to clear part of the territory, many palm trees were simply uprooted in a huge area. It's not as pretty as it looks in most of the photos. However, now (by the new year 2014) this territory is still for sale. It is possible that it will be built up. In general, over the past six months in Ban Tai, houses have been built for rent - they just poked where they could.
Ban Tai beach
Infrastructure of Ban Tai Beach:
Ban Tai has everything you need for life. A couple of shops from locals (where they are mercilessly deceived, prices jump depending on how much you are “appreciated” today, and one carrot can cost 20-40 rubles. But if you return it back with the words, they say, you don’t need it at that price, then it immediately becomes 5-7 rubles. But in any case, it's good to know that at any time you can buy water or fruits and essential goods. Right at the exit on the ring road there is Seven Eleven - my favorite mini-market for all necessary products, such as milk and eggs Behind him is a pharmacy, however, with strange opening hours. From the roundabout for 50 baht you can take a tuk-tuk to Nathon, and to Maenam, Bo Put and Chaweng. And when you live for a long time, then to the neighboring beach and for 20 baht, on the main road of Ban Tai there are also a couple of restaurants - Mai Tai with a local owner and Mama Moon with a European one. be)). There are no kindergartens in Ban Tai, as well as self-service laundries, but there is a local londry on every corner. For fruit (if you don’t want to buy at exorbitant prices from the locals) you can go to Maenam or walk for about thirty minutes.
Ban Tai beach
Ban Tai beach:
A small strip of 4 kilometers, there is a shadow, as there are many palm trees. Coconuts hang on them, but once every six months they are removed and the leaves are cut. The sand is nice, fine, fairly clean. Sometimes applies algae. But every day the beach by the road, where many people sunbathe, is cleaned by a local uncle, a wonderful person. If you turn to the right from the road, there will be a wilder place, there is also a ridge where the locals fish. And going to the left, you find yourself in the heavenly harbor, where mothers with children like to gather, and where the couple is located good hotels, next to which the beach is well cleaned. True, recently, after heavy rains and bad weather, palm trees were knocked down there and a lot of dirt was caused, but I think this will be quickly removed. After all, hotel owners pay heavy fines if the area next to them is not cleaned.
The sea of Ban Tai beach:
When we arrived, the swimming was wonderful. A gentle entrance, at first shallow, it is good for a child to swim. The water was the clearest. And if you move further away, not very far, we were already up to our necks and above, adults also swam at their pleasure. In December, the sea became cloudier and algae often began to appear on the beach. From February or even earlier, it became shallow, the ebbs and flows became pronounced, and until spring and summer it was so shallow that adults could swim only if they lay on their belly. But baby is good. The bottom is clean in some places, closer to the ridge everything is in stones.
Bantay beach Bantay beach
Chaweng beach - Chaweng beach Samui
Chaweng beach
The most party place where most tourists settle and where the most haunted places of the island are located. Bars, clubs, parties for every taste. Noisy, but those who prefer this type of holiday will have fun. Do not expect peace and tranquility in this place, crowds of burnt tourists, drunken youth, annoying merchants, the smells of overcooked local food from numerous stalls will not let you relax. And the night "boom-boom" from various establishments will complete the picture of the rest. However, tour operators consider this beach the most popular and impose it on tourists. The airport is located nearby, so you are guaranteed constant admiration for low-flying planes. By the way, you will hear the noise from them from 5 am until late at night. Although, given the level of noise from beach cafes, restaurants and parties, or on a one-way street from bars, cabarets and similar establishments, you can not pay attention to any additional buzz at all. If suddenly you get bored on some quiet beach, the sweetest thing is to come here to relax. But it’s even more pleasant for me personally to go back to peace and quiet) I’ll be honest - once we went through some kind of resort and it was quiet there. Music from the beach is not heard at all. The rest of the hotels through which we got out from the beach to the street looked more like a courtyard.
Chaweng beach
Infrastructure of Chaweng Beach:
It is well developed, tuk-tuks run regularly, however, they take more than on all other parts of the island. Annoying taxi drivers will not miss a single tourist, so as not to signal, creating an additional cacophony of noise. The concentration of cafes, restaurants, bars and other establishments for every taste and budget is higher than on all neighboring beaches. Massage parlors are a dime a dozen and prices are lower than in less touristy places, and on the beach there are masseuses every hundred meters. By the way, right on the beach, balloons are sold openly for 150 baht, filled, as the inscription on the tray says, with laughing gas. On Chaweng, there are also the largest hypermarkets, the main Tesco Lotus of the island, Macro and Big C. In the same area there are various hospitals, including the best on the island of Bangkok Samui Hospital, the only place where you can go with a child without fear, and where there are the only pediatricians on the island.
Chaweng beach
On Chaweng, the fans are super budget holiday can find guesthouses for some ridiculous money, I saw an advertisement on the street from one of them, about the cost of rooms 150 rubles per day ... Those who passionately desire "Thai love" at affordable prices go to Chaweng any local bar. By the way, there are many restaurants with European cuisine, even McDonald's, it seemed to me that there are two of them, as well as Pizza Hut and KFS. In most restaurants, the price tag for food is ruthlessly inflated. If on Walking Street on Bo Put a mojito costs 50 re, then on Chaweng beach from 125, and on a party street already from 300 and more! But there are cafes with European-style ice cream, I really missed them on other beaches. I liked to dine by the sea, right on the pillows on the sand. True, finding a place where speakers are not so noisy and more or less decent music is not so easy. Like a place with a more or less decent price tag. We found one minibar with a cozy atmosphere, and food menus were brought to us from a nearby restaurant.
Chaweng beach Happy birthday to me) Chaweng beach Chaweng beach
Chaweng beach
Chaweng Beach:
The sand is white and very fine, pleasant to the touch. It seems to me that such beautiful sand is nowhere else. The beach is wide. But there are so many people that I remember Anapa or Sochi from Soviet times. Everyone is constantly moving back and forth, Europeans are lying on the trestle beds, restaurants are packed with Koreans, gays are running in large numbers along the shore, and annoying to the point of horror merchants brazenly thrust sparkling toys into the hands of children and beg for money from their parents.
Chaweng beach Chaweng beach Chaweng beach Chaweng beach
Chaweng beach Chaweng beach Chaweng beach Chaweng beach
Chaweng beach
Sea of Chaweng Beach:
On Chaweng, the tides are pronounced, sometimes it’s a bit shallow near the coast, but it happens that you can reach the depth and swim normally. Basically, people soak where the "knee-deep sea" - during and after the party, apparently, that's it. In the north there is a coral reef in the sea, so it is very shallow nearby. Usually the water is clear and the bottom is clean. In autumn and winter, Chaweng has terrible waves and a very strong wind, it is impossible to swim with children. But you can do a variety of water sports. By the way, scooters constantly rush along the coast. It is believed that Chaweng has the most transparent and beautiful sea among other beaches, but I would not say so 100%.
Lipa Noi beach - Lipa Noi beach Samui.
Lipa Noi beach
I love this beach for its silence and desert. It is also called the "zone of elite pensioners." Party-goers will definitely not be suitable, although fun parties are held on Niki Beach, but in general it is very calm here, there are practically no bars, all large shops and all kinds of tourist shops in general are only in Nathon. By the way, you can drive to it in about 20 minutes. But in Lipanoy there is an immigration office where everyone goes to renew their visas. Do not believe those who say that you can move to Lipa Noi only for a lot of money, this is just nonsense. A tuk tuk at the roundabout costs exactly 30 baht. By the way, there are not only big ones, which are called songhaevs, there are also real tuk tuks, which do not go at all in the Nathon-Chaweng area. Moreover, the driver's phone number is written on the cab glass, write it down and call. If you initially designate your house (for example, Tanyas house), then on a call in five minutes, a personal tuktuker will drive up to you directly to the house, take you for the same 30 baht per person, for example, to Nathon, to Tesco Lotus, when finish shopping, call him again, and in five minutes you are comfortably driving home for the same 30 baht from your nose. We are very satisfied - from door to door and cheaper than tuk tuks from Ban Tai cost us. You can also find houses for every taste, although in general it seemed to me that they were more expensive than in other areas. There are affordable bungalows and on the beach, even from 14 thousand. But for this money in other places you can rent quite a decent house. By the way, about decent, more precisely, on the contrary. Away from the beach, especially along various roads, you can find houses that are not superb, but, for example, for 10,000 double even with their own territory and a good Internet.
Infrastructure of Lipa Noi beach :
There are a lot of purely Thai restaurants, there are few normal restaurants for tourists. There are a few expensive ones, because here is an area of elite villas, terribly expensive resorts (next to us are two-bed houses 4000 euros per month). But beach good ones are occasionally found. For example, right next to us is a restaurant where dishes average 50 baht, as well as freshly squeezed juices. After meeting him, I generally became lazy and cook only for the child. And even then, we often feed her for lunch or dinner and there rice with chicken, because if you ask, they cook without pepper and excess seasonings. There are not as many Seven Elevens as we would like, but they still exist. We are 10 minutes walk to the nearest one. There are also Thai shops, but they are mainly for locals, for ourselves we found only water there, if it suddenly ran out, and it’s just too lazy to go to the store. Searching, you can find local markets with fruits and vegetables. The nearest kindergartens are in Nathon. In Lipa Noi there are, as it were, a lot of them, only they are all closed, because there are no children. There is also a large state Koh Samui Hospital.
Lipa Noi beach
Lipa Noi beach:
Very pleasant, flat with a slope to the sea, without rocks and ridges (not counting the mountains, where the port is). The sand is fine, white, without stones. Lots of shells and crabs. Sometimes it takes out a lot of algae, but they are immediately removed from hotels, and on wild beaches it is carried away to the sea with the next tide. However, in the summer there was a lot of mud, and where there were areas without hotels or resorts, I didn’t want to walk barefoot. At first, sand flies bit the child's legs, but then, probably, they ate and stopped. In all other respects, the place is ideal for parents with children during the season.
Lipa Noi beach
The sea of Lipa Noi beach:
In winter, the sea is much deeper. We even swam ourselves, and the baby was up to her throat quite close to the shore. And in spring and summer, it is so shallow that even a daughter at the age of four swims with difficulty. Because as for her - less than waist-deep, sometimes knee-deep. And for adults, it’s generally ankle-deep, it doesn’t reach the knees. To swim normally you have to walk more than a hundred meters! Good tide mostly only at night. During April, the water came at least waist-deep only twice so far. In June, in general, only ankle-deep (The entrance, by the way, is accordingly very gentle. The transparency of the water does not occur day after day, sometimes it is crystal clear, less often unclear. The bottom is often with algae, although there are also clean areas. In some places there are a lot of stones and coral fragments. But I didn't see any hedgehogs.

Taling Ngam beach - Taling Ngam beach Samui
Taling Ngam beach
Known as the quietest, secluded and farthest place from the tourist civilization. Someone considers this place a paradise for lovers, someone is a complete wilderness. There are mostly expensive villas here, but along the road, at a distance from the sea, there are many cheap housing. Here you can see beautiful sunsets on the coast.
Taling Ngam beach, jetty
Infrastructure of Taling Ngam Beach:
Considering that the beach is quite far from the ring road, just taking a tuk tuk will not work. They are simply not there. But taxi drivers do come from time to time. True, they understand better than anyone that the farangs have no choice, so the amounts are called simply astronomical, even to get to Nathon. People without a car or a bike have nothing to do in that area. There are many cafes, the main ones for locals. But there is some show-off restaurant where prices are 10 times higher (and more) than in simple Europeanized restaurants for foreigners. And the waiters walk around as if it is you who should serve them, and not they you. As a matter of principle, I would not eat in such a place. And in a simpler restaurant, which we stumbled upon by chance, at rather high prices, the food was terribly not tasty ... Although, everywhere you need to “know the places”. I didn’t find kindergartens there, but maybe I didn’t really look for them.
Taling Ngam beach
Taling Ngam Beach:
The sand is fine, light and clean. Due to the absence of tourist accumulations on the beaches, it is clean, if it does not throw out algae. At high tide it is very beautiful, photographers will be pleased with the views of wild beaches.
The sea of Taling Ngam beach:
Calm, quite transparent. However, the entrance is very gentle, the ebbs and flows are pronounced, and it is very difficult to swim at low tide, in some places it is impossible at all. So many stones appear from the water that you can’t even go into the sea.
Nathon beach Samui
Nathon beach
I, in general, do not turn my tongue to call Nathon a beach. It's more like a local center, a port mini-town, a business part of the city. There are two piers here, from which you can get to the mainland, the islands, Phuket or book various excursions. Right at the pier, there are a lot of shops that will sell you tickets anywhere. Bus stations are not so far away, from which you can go not only to various parts of Thailand, but also to Malaysia (via the ferry, of course), and at simply ridiculous prices. Here is the Catholic Church, and banks, and government agencies.
Nathon beach
Infrastructure of Nathon:
Well developed. There is a tuk tuk parking lot at the pier on the square, they go towards Chaweng without a break, but towards Lamai (Lipa Noya) they go worse. If you sit down at the final, be sure to negotiate the price. Especially in the evenings, tuk tukers, along with taxi drivers, meet those who have just sailed from the mainland and begin to cash in, showing their fabulous price lists, beautifully printed by the self-made taxi mafia and laminated for greater importance. Ordinary customers who know the real price at this moment worry them very little. Because it is too difficult to explain to other passengers from the ferry why they are being taken for 500, and their neighbors for 50. If you go towards Lamai, then you should walk a little along the ring road and catch a small tuk-tuk, which carries along its route for 30 baht.
Nathon has its own Tesco Lotus, though small, but all food and essential goods are available. It is full of all sorts of shops and shops, and the prices for clothes and tourist souvenirs are several times lower than on other beaches of Koh Samui. There is also a separate two-story children's store, the only one of this size on the island. It is in it that there is a chance to buy a normal crib, an almost decent car seat, some educational toys. There are a lot of cafes, massage parlors, bike and car rentals, and even a doctor who takes pregnant women and children. In my opinion, there is more than one such office in Nathon. And there are enough markets, and kindergartens. Not far from the center of Nathon there are two small but interesting places to visit - the temple town of Wat Chaeng and the slightly prettier Wat Khun Kharam.
Nathon beach
Nathon beach:
It just doesn't exist. This is a port area. In addition, they fish there. Of course, there is a small piece of wild beach, but no one swims or sunbathe there at all.
Sea of Nathon:
Small, but surprisingly beautiful. Even at low tide. And the sunsets are amazing. However, in the summer, when the sea was completely gone, the smell was as if the sellers had run away from the fish market and left their goods to rot for a week ... It was difficult even to pass by without plugging your nose.
Bang Po beach - Bang Po beach Samui
Bang Por beach
Infrastructure of Bang Por Beach:
The place is quite calm, because there are no sights or tourist bustling life here. This beach is quite narrow, the houses are almost right next to the ring road. In my opinion, in order to live to the sound of constantly passing traffic, and from 5 in the morning until very late at night, one must have very strong nerves. However, in some places the strip of sand is a little wider and there are already several houses, even 3-4 in some places fit, but the first ones are right on the sea. Perhaps in them the sound of the sea slightly drowns out the noise of cars. But it still won’t save you from dust flying off the road. There are kindergartens. Some houses are also located inland, but most of them are reached by a steep uphill climb, for example, with a stroller or an elderly person, crawling along such a steep ascent is simply not realistic.
Bang Por beach
Tuk tuks go regularly from Bang Po in both directions. There are few shops, no large ones at all. I didn't even see the Elevens. There are some restaurants right next to the road. Even a pizzeria is available, but the local owner is not particularly fond of small children, walks around with a disgruntled face. Inland there are a couple of self-service laundries. It seems that there is nowhere to go out there at all and there is nowhere to buy food. There are not even markets with vegetables and fruits, the nearest one is in Maenam. But in 30-40 minutes you can drive to the hypermarket, or 20 to the market.
Bang Por beach
Bang Por Beach:
A narrow strip of sand. Clean, beautiful, fine sand, but come across pebbles, shells, coral fragments. There are algae. It is bad that the beach is interrupted several times by mountains, stones, they wanted to walk along the coast and could not. Most of the houses are old. But there are no mosquitoes on the beach, which is a huge plus. There are always few people on the beach. Nudists prefer to sunbathe in the stones.
Bang Por beach
The sea of Bang Por beach:
Perfect place for holidays with children. Very shallow, the entrance is gentle, the bottom is quite decent, if you move away from the stones. Light breeze, calm sea, usually clear water. Waves are rare.
Bo Phut beach - Bo Phut beach Samui
Bo Phut beach
A bustling place, great for those who want to have fun and relax. The district is built up quite densely, everything is located along the road that departs from the main ring road. The beach is either very narrow, near the road, or almost decent in size. There are expensive villas, resorts near the water itself, I have not seen affordable housing. But it is full across the road, a little deeper. True, prices are again higher than in less touristy areas for the same. On Bo Phut is the famous fishing village "Fisherman Village", where our compatriots go for a walk and eat every Thursday.
Bo Phut beach
Bo Phut beach infrastructure:
The routes are running well. There are plenty of shops, cafes and restaurants on every corner, and even several in a row. True, either a completely Thai style, in which I don’t dare to sit down at a table, or the price tag is more expensive than in calmer areas. I would even say much more expensive, and the quality of the food is not great. At the end of the beach we found an amazing cafe with cakes, juices and ice cream. There is an airport on Bo Phut, you can hear the planes.
Bo Phut beach
Bo Phut Beach:
Very pleasant, the sand is fine and clean, however, there is little shade. The strip of sand is not wide, but there is more than enough space. There are not very many vacationers on the beach, everyone is mostly lying in sun loungers near the hotels. There are practically no territories for hotels, one path to the sea. Despite the road nearby, during the day it is quiet and calm.
Bo Phut beach
The sea of Bo Phut beach:
Calm, not very transparent. Quite shallow near the shore, the bottom half a meter or a meter from the sand is good, but if you go a meter deeper, there is silt, the sensations are rather slippery. Depth builds up pretty quickly. There are many places where boats and boats are parked.

A very small beach, on which the most wonderful place Plat Layem is located. Next to the Big Buddha. In terms of recreation, the area is not at all touristy; those who come for a long time are more likely to settle here. There are many very cheap housing in this area, although expensive houses are found. They are cheap and the quality, in general, is appropriate. For a short vacation, I would advise other beaches, because the main attractions of the area are easy to get around in half a day, having come here on purpose. Be aware that people living on this beach can hear noise from airplanes. But you can take amazing pictures, as planes fly very low over the beach with enviable regularity.
Wat Plai Laem
Infrastructure of Pla Laem Beach:
The area is located near the ring road, there are no problems with transport, in the daytime it is easy and inexpensive to get to the neighboring beach. There is some tension with the shops, there are not many of them here. Although the same Seven Elevens and Family Mart are present. There are few bars and restaurants.
Pla Laem Beach:
Where it is, the sand is fine, pleasant to the touch, light. On the shore you can find shade from palm trees. However, this place seemed to me not very suitable for a resort holiday.
Sea of Pla Laem Beach:
Clean, but very shallow, adults can not swim. There are fishing boats on the shore.
Bang Rak beach Samui, Buddha Beach
The people call Buddha Beach or Big Buddha Beach, since it is this attraction - Big Buddha or Big Buddha - that is famous. The place is quite calm, although there are enough bars and restaurants. The coast is built up with hotels and villas, all affordable housing is opposite across the road. The cost is clearly higher than similar housing in less touristy areas. By the way, the main road here is too close to the sea, so the noise of cars is ensured from morning to evening.
Ban Rak beach
Infrastructure of Ban Rak Beach:
The road is nearby, minibuses and taxis run regularly. There are quite a lot of shops, there are mini markets. Prices in restaurants are somewhat higher than in the areas where we lived. Russian, as it seemed to me, not so much. If you head deep into the streets from the sea, you can find very budget housing, but with big drawbacks. In the center of the beach there is a pier from which boats sail to Koh Phangan. The area has a fish market selling the freshest seafood.
Ban Rak beach
Ban Rak Beach:
In mastered for tourist holiday places are beautiful, the sand is excellent, but the coastline is not wide. Somewhere you can't swim at all. There is no wind and waves, the kids swim very well.
Ban Rak beach
The sea of Ban Rak beach:
Small, literally a meter from the shore, there may be not very pleasant silt. It seemed to me that there were very few people on the beach.
Lamai beach - Lamai beach Samui
Lamai beach
The second most visited place by tourists. Unlike Chaweng, which holds the championship, it is much calmer here. This area has a lot of accommodation for rent for every taste, from expensive villas to cheap bungalows. Many tourists come to Lamai to look at the famous sculptures of Grandmother and Grandfather, reminiscent of the female and male genital organs. It is believed that the main disadvantage of Lamai in recent years has been the too large number of Russians who have moved to permanent residence.
Children's water park
Infrastructure of Lamai Beach:
The area is quite large, goes inland. But the main tourist places The habitats are located not so far from the roundabout, so there are no problems with movement. There are plenty of shops, bars, restaurants and similar establishments for every taste and budget. A one-way street stretches along the coast, where a tourist can find anything: clubs, shops, massage parlors, Thai boxing, a market with fresh vegetables and fruits, clothing markets and much more, even McDonalds. And there are so many macaroons that the smells of Thai food will haunt you everywhere and everywhere. Here, in Lamai, there is a large Tesco Lotus hypermarket, where you can find everything you might need. It has a food court and a bunch of shops, so you can simply not go to neighboring areas. There are diving training centers, spa centers in large numbers, as well as a children's water park.
Lamai beach
Quite wide, large, clean, the sand is large, golden, pleasant to the touch. Lots of umbrellas and sunbeds and even more vacationers. There is little natural shade. Enough merchants, masseuses. The beach offers water activities. An ideal place for a beach holiday, but with the possibility of an active and party pastime.
Lamai beach
The sea of Lamai beach:
The entrance to the water is gentle. However, the northern part of the beach is shallow and has a lot of rocks and corals. And in the southern part there are enough of them, in addition, there are sea urchins. True, the sea is much deeper. But in the center there is an ideal place for swimming: deep, the bottom is good, the entrance is gentle, it will be deep pretty quickly. True, it will be good for adults without children there, because there are often strong waves at sea. The water is not very clear, only in the center of the beach and in complete calm.
Stepan Skvortsov is the author of the view photos of Lamai beach.

Thong Krut beach - Tongh Krut beach Samui
Thong Krut Beach
A place for a relaxing holiday, admiring the sunsets, opposite the islands. Not a lot of people live, the place is very secluded, not touristy. In the same area there is a snake farm famous for its shows and the Khao Chedi pagoda, which is surrounded by golden Buddha statues. You can rent a boat and go on an excursion to the opposite islands, visit a pearl farm.
Infrastructure of Thong Krut Beach:
The place is quite remote, far from the ring road, it is not so easy to leave by local transport. To stay here you need to rent your own bike or car. There are few shops, supermarkets are very, very far away.
Thong Krut Beach:
Not a very wide strip of sand, however, very fine and white. If you do not get into low tide, then you can make very beautiful photos.
Sea of Thong Krut beach:
Very shallow, nowhere to swim. Yes, and the bottom with stones, silt, slippery. The water is muddy. At low tide, a huge sandbank. There are many fishing boats in the sea. In general, it is not worth getting into the water at all.
Chaweng Noi Beach Chaweng Noi, Crystal Bay Crystal_Bay (aka Thongtakian and Silver beach)
Crystal Bay beach
Chaweng Noi is a small beach after Chaweng, about a kilometer long. One of the corners of paradise - the sea is transparent, the sand is like in advertising. However, in its southern part there are many stones and the place for swimming is not suitable. There are usually not many people on the beach, but there are enough crabs and fish in the water.
Immediately after it is a secluded bay of Crystal Bay with a calm clear sea, excellent fine sand and a small number of people.
Chaweng Noi beach
Infrastructure of Chaweng Noi Beach:
There are many restaurants and bars on the beach, they have umbrellas and sun loungers. If you buy food or drinks, you can use umbrellas and sunbeds for free. On the beach, they offer to do various types of water activities: you can ride a banana, a scooter, a parachute, and so on. Since the hotels located on the coast are quite high level, you won’t be able to eat cheaply there, but there are more than enough places to eat. Supermarkets, shops and markets are nearby in the Chaweng area, which is very close. And on the beach itself, more precisely, outside the territory, in general, there is nothing, there is nowhere to walk, there are no ordinary shops.
Crystal Bay beach
Chaweng Noi Beach and Crystal Bay:
Quite a wide strip of white sand, soft, without pebbles and shells. Very clean. There are huge boulders in the middle of the beach. The views are just amazing. If there are sometimes quite strong waves on Chaweng Noi beach, then in Crystal Bay the sea is always perfect, because it is protected from the wind by rocks. There are a lot of people there during the season, but many consider it the most beautiful beach on Koh Samui.
Crystal Bay beach
The sea of Chaweng Noi beach:
Very clean, transparent, occasionally small. But you can swim. The waves are not big, mostly calm. In some places there are a lot of boulders in the water, but you can swim between them, there is a lot of space. On the largest it is convenient to sunbathe and take amazing pictures. Not far from the shore you can see fish, even quite large ones near the reef. And sometimes stingrays swim almost to the shore.
Hua Thanon beach - Hua Thanon beach Samui
Hua Thanon beach
Not a very good place to stay. Although there are enough hotels there, and there are plenty of houses for different wallets. Firstly, the sea is very shallow and rocky, and secondly, there is a large Muslim village in the area. Get ready to listen to the singing coming from their mosque right on schedule. In addition, the inhabitants live mainly by fishing, so where there is still an approach to the shore among the stones, someone's boat will definitely stand. But it’s good to come here for fishing, even if without a fishing rod, but with a bag. Here you can always choose freshly caught seafood in assortment and at quite reasonable prices.
Infrastructure of Hua Thanon Beach:
There are no supermarkets nearby, you will have to go far and long for groceries. Thai shops are unlikely to save. The only positive is that there are many attractions nearby. There are two largest waterfalls in this area with stunning natural views. And on an excursion to this part of the island, tourists are brought together to look at the mummy of a monk at Wat Thunaram temple. Nearby is an aquarium with a tiger zoo. However, the sight is very sad and not particularly impressive for those who have been in similar places on the mainland or in any other city. And, of course, a must-see attraction for tourists is the Grandmother and Grandfather stones, which resemble male dignity and female organs.
Hua Thanon
Hua Thanon Beach:
Lots of rocks and coarse sand. But there are also many shells. There is a shade from palm trees, but this place is not particularly suitable for a beach holiday. Although, of course, if you try hard enough, you can find several coves for a secluded holiday. On most of the beach you can see small debris, old abandoned boats.
The sea of Hua Thanon beach:
Not bathable. Fine, a lot of stones, you can’t walk along the bottom without slippers. Although, of course, with a strong desire, you can find small pieces of decent places. The tides are very pronounced.
Laem Set beach - Laem Set beach Samui
Laem set beach
As a matter of fact, there is nothing to say about the beach in terms of tourism. It’s beautiful in places for photos, but it’s not suitable for a beach holiday at all. It is worth coming here to snorkel, as there is a coral reef. However, it can be so shallow that it is not particularly possible to dive.
And today we will talk about the best beaches on Koh Samui. Despite the fact that the territory of Koh Samui is small, there are quite a lot of different beaches, ranging from the most party-like to wild, little-visited places. Therefore, everyone can find a beach to their taste. All beaches on the island are free and you can freely get to any of them, even if it is located on the territory of a hotel or restaurant.
I will describe the beaches of Koh Samui from north to south, you can follow the map where this or that place is located. We will talk about the 14 best beaches, most of them are located on the eastern part of the island, in principle, this is where tourists stop. The rest of the beaches can be classified as wild, there is practically no infrastructure and they are not adapted for tourist recreation.
Bang Por is located on the northern part of Koh Samui, its length is 6 kilometers. This is a fairly quiet place, there is a lot of housing for rent and prices are much lower than in popular tourist areas. Therefore, if you have come for the winter and want to save money, then this area is ideal for you. The beach is clean sandy with a smooth entrance to the sea, great for families with children. There are few people, there is no entertainment on the beach, but a large number of different cafes and restaurants along the coast, so you will not be left hungry. Thai children often play on the shore, and there are also many fishing boats.
Ban Thai Beach
I fell in love with Ban Tai for small soft white sand. However, the sea is almost everywhere overgrown with algae, which is inconvenient for swimming. Only at the end of the beach there is the only place with a clean bottom and clear water, it is in this part of the beach that there is a large concentration of vacationers. The entrance to the sea is so smooth that it is necessary to walk a hundred meters for the water to reach the neck. But from there you can see an incredibly beautiful view of the beach. On the shore is the Mimosa Hotel, often the beach itself is called the name of this hotel.
Maenam Beach
Most often, I lived in the Maenam area and visited this beach. This is a rather quiet place, not crowded, there are no water activities and merchants. The sand on the shore is yellow and coarser than on Ban Tai. The entrance to the sea is smooth, the water is clean. There are many cafes and restaurants along the coast, palm trees grow along the coastline, which create a natural shadow on the beach. Read more about this beach.
Beach hotel W-Resort (W-Resort Beach)
Separately, I want to highlight the beach, which belongs to one of the most expensive hotels on Koh Samui W-Resort. It is well maintained, with all the amenities for the residents of the hotel. There are various sunbeds, a restaurant on the beach and even huge chess. Despite the fact that this is a private area, access is open to strangers. Many people come here to take great photos.
Bo Phut Beach
Bo Phut is another northern beach of Koh Samui. Numerous hotels are located on its shore and access to it passes either through their territory or on the waterfront of Fishermann Village. Many tourists rest on this beach, the infrastructure is well developed here, and a large number of entertainments are offered. The sea is clean, the descent into the water is smooth, the sand on the beach is yellow and soft. On Fridays, there is a clothing market that runs along the beach.
Bang Rak Beach
Bang Rak is a quiet beach in the north of the island, next to the airport. The infrastructure is quite well developed, water activities are available. The beach is close to the road and large Big C and Tesco Lotus stores. The sea is clean, the sand is soft on the shore, however, the bottom in some parts of the beach is rocky, which is not very convenient for swimming. There are usually few people here.
Thong Son Beach
Thong Son is a quiet bay on the island of Koh Samui, along which there are quite expensive hotels. The sea is shallow and clean, the sand is soft. Great place to stay with kids. The infrastructure is underdeveloped, there are few people. Thong Son is considered the most romantic and secluded place, here beautiful nature and great sunsets.
Chong Mon Beach
Choeng Mon is quite crowded, especially during the high season. There are many water activities and merchants. Because of shallow sea great for children's recreation. The sea is clean, there are no waves, the sand is fine and greyish. Along the coast there are many cafes, bars, massage parlors, you can rent a sun lounger.
Chaweng Beach
The most popular and party beach on Koh Samui. Many package tourists and young people rest here. A huge number of cafes, restaurants, massage parlors, bars and shops. Entertainment for every taste, parties are often held on the beach. Chaweng is considered the most party and noisy place on the island. The sand on the beach is fine and white, the sea is clean and shallow. Read more about Chaweng Beach.
Chaweng Noi Beach
Chaweng Noi is considered the younger brother of Chaweng, but it is smaller and calmer. The beach is beautiful, well-groomed, the sand is white and soft, the sea is quite deep. Hotels are located along the coast and you can get to the beach only through their territory. All infrastructure is provided by hotels, there are water activities.
Coral Cove is a small but very beautiful and cozy beach. It has become a favorite place for many who have been here. Despite its inaccessibility, there are always a lot of people on the beach. The descent from the main road to Coral Cove is quite steep, so you should carefully drive off it. There is practically no entertainment here, only a couple of cafes on the beach. The sea is deep and clean, the bottom is sandy, despite the fact that the beach is surrounded by rocks. In winter, there are often waves, but they are small.
Crystal Bay
Crystal Bay is also called Thong Takian Beach and Silver Beach. It is a crowded but very beautiful place. The sand is white, the sea is azure and shallow, there are almost never waves. Families with children often come here. There are hotels, restaurants and cafes on the coast. Despite the fact that the beach is popular with tourists, it is quite calm here, there are no entertainments and youth parties.
Lamai Beach
Lamai is the second most popular beach after Chaweng. It has a long coastline that is 4 kilometers long. Most the best place for relaxation and swimming - this is the center of the beach. The sand is fine, light yellow, the sea is clean. In winter, there are often big waves. There are always a lot of people, a varied selection of entertainment. On the shore there are cafes, restaurants, bars, hotels, massage centers. The beach is great for outdoor activities. You can read more about Lamai Beach.
Hua Thanon
Hua Thanon is a picturesque place where people often gather to play volleyball or go for a morning run. Along the coast there are quite a few hotels, both expensive and cheap. Hua Thanon is a popular kitesurfing destination. There are not very many people here. Near the beach there is an aquarium, a butterfly park, a tiger zoo.
All the beaches that I described in this article are the most popular among tourists, while the rest are either dirty or not suitable for swimming at all.
