Ferry from Kyllini to Zakynthos. Holidays in Zakynthos: how to get there? how to get around the island? Why Direct Ferries
If you are traveling to the Greek island of Zakynthos without the help of a travel agency, and must take care of tickets and transfers yourself, here is a little information on how to get to Zakynthos.
1) By plane
There are direct flights from Moscow to Zakynthos Airport. There are also front ends, but they are even more expensive. A direct flight costs from 5,500 rubles and takes 3 hours 30 minutes. There are not direct flights every day, and in general there are not too many flights to Zakynthos, you need to keep track. Tickets from Kyiv cost about the same.
From Eleftherios Venizelos Airport in Athens you can fly to Zakynthos. Flights depart daily to the island year-round and the journey takes about one hour. The cost of a separate ticket from Athens is around 65 euros. During the high tourist season (April to October) there are direct charter connections between Zakynthos and a number of European cities. In general, this is not cheap, I must admit. Airport named after Dionysius Solomou on Zakynthos is located in the Ampelokipi region, 6 km southwest of Zakynthos Town, the main city of the island. Transportation from and to Zaikinfa airport is carried out only by taxi; this service will cost approximately 6 euros.
2) By ferry
If you arrive at the airport in Athens (I believe tickets to Athens can be sorted out quickly and there are more of them), you can take a ferry to the island. True, first you will have to get to the port, which is located in the town Killini, which is on the Peloponnese peninsula.
There is a daily direct bus from Athens, Patras and Thessaloniki to Kyllini. The journey from Athens to Kyllini lasts approximately 4 hours 30 minutes. From Kyllini there is a direct connection with the port of Zakynthos. Bus tickets can be purchased at tourist information offices, e.g. at Kifisou 100 in Athens and Filita Street 42 in Zakynthos.
Now we're going by ferry. By the way, there are also ferries to Zakynthos from the island of Kefalonia.
From Kyllini to Zakynthos the distance is 18 nautical miles, and the trip lasts approximately 1 hour or an hour and a half and costs about 5 euros. Ferries depart every day every three hours (or a little more often in the evening), from 08:00 to 21:15, and from Zakynthos to Kyllini - from 05:30 to 19:15. On weekends, in particular on Sundays, the schedule changes slightly. You can leave from Zakynthos to the “land” at least at 08:00 and then every two hours until 7 pm, and from the mainland to Zakynthos from 10:30 to 21:15 every 2-3 hours.
There are ferries to and from Patras(a port on the mainland, at the northwestern tip of the Peloponnese, on the shores of the Gulf of Patras).
As for ferries from the island of Kefalonia, there are much fewer of them, they go mainly twice a day from Pessada Port in Kefalonia to St. Nicolas Port in the Volimes area in Zakynthos. At 09:45 and 19:15 to Zakynthos and at 07:45 and 17:30 to Kefalonia from Zakynthos. The journey from island to island takes about an hour, and ferries are available in the summer.
Concerning transport in Zakynthos , then everything is extremely simple. Here you can navigate:
By bus
The bus station on Zakynthos Island is located next to the port and is very well organized. Inside the station you can see the schedule and ticket prices. Tickets are very cheap, and you can buy tickets either at the bus station at the ticket office, or directly on the bus in cash. From the capital of the island you can travel by bus to many places, such as: Argassi, Vasilikos, Porto Roma, Alykes, Laganas, Tsilivi and many others. The public bus network is a godsend - a trip from Zakynthos town to Alykes, for example, costs just €1.30, and to other popular resorts just €1 or a little more. All buses are air-conditioned and comfortable, but they arrive at the wrong time, 10-20 minutes late. All bus stops show bus arrival times. By the way, at the bus station you can buy a ticket to Athens, say, and it will already include the cost of both the bus and the ferry. A bus and ferry go to Athens 5 times a day, the journey takes 7 hours. (everything costs about 21 euros). From the bus station you can go to Thessaloniki - 2 times a day (costs 35 euros)
By car or motorcycle
The roads of Zakynthos are very well built, so driving here is a real pleasure. You can rent a car there, or book in advance, for example, on the website fantasticgreece.com. This is a very practical and convenient way to explore the island and admire the beautiful places. Always carry your driver's license and use seat belts. It's strict with this.
By taxi
Finding a taxi in Zakynthos is easy. There are a whole bunch of taxi services that go to the most popular tourist resorts. (by the way, their prices are fixed). It costs 10-15 euros one way. For any other destination, drivers use meters.
On the boat
You can rent a boat or use a taxi boat to visit the island's beautiful regions, caves and wild beaches. This is a very pleasant way to visit all parts of the island that are not accessible by other means of transport - and there are many of these in Zakynthos. At the central port of the island you can find taxi boats or boat and yacht rental companies.
Zakynthos (Zakynthos)
general information
The island of Zakynthos (Zakynthos or Zante), “fioro levante” (flower of the east), is one of the few destinations in Greece with a variety of holidays of different levels and prices, meeting the requirements of even the most demanding traveler. Vibrant nightlife in Leganas, high gastronomic level in Bohali; a huge cultural, folklore and religious heritage can be found in the city’s museums and churches; many archaeological and geological sites in the interior of the island; rich flora and fauna with its trademark sea turtle and sea lilies in Laganas Bay; countless pine forests throughout the island and nine species of orchids; picturesque beaches - some cosmopolitan, others remote, sandy on the east side, rocky and inaccessible on the west coast - these are the main features that describe the “idyllic picture” that is Zakynthos. You can start your day with a visit to the Dionysios Solomos Museum, the City Library and the Church of Agios Dionysios, then explore the hidden beauties in the interior of the island with perennial pine forests and native plants such as sage; enjoy crystal clear and warm waters on countless beaches - crowded ones such as Argasi, Banana, Laganas and Tsilivi and others less noisy such as Agios Nikolaos beach, which is also considered the most beautiful on the island of Zakynthos. At lunchtime you can head to Bohali, where the local cuisine is perfectly combined with a high level of culinary inspiration, and end the day with a cocktail in a busy club in Laganas or a quiet bar-restaurant in Argasi or Agios Nikolaos. Whatever you choose, Zakynthos (Zante) has you covered. Book ferry tickets now for a trip that will leave you with lasting impressions and memories.
Port of Zakynthos
You can arrive to the port of Zakynthos by ferry from Kyllini and Igoumenitsa, as well as from Bari, Italy. In the first case, tickets are cheaper than to any other Greek islands. Due to the fact that Zakynthos gets a lot of tourists in the summer, it is best if you can plan your trip a few weeks before your expected arrival date. You can save money and avoid inconvenience and stress by purchasing your ferry tickets to Zakynthos online from our website website . The journey from Killini lasts about 1 hour and from Bari about 12 hours. If you decide to travel from Athens to Kyllini by car, keep in mind that the trip will take about 3 hours, from Patras about 1 hour. You can also reach Zakynthos Island by plane from Eleftherios Venizelos Airport in Athens. During the summer season, many charters fly from European cities. The port of Zakynthos meets all safety and leisure standards for passengers. Arriving at the airport you will see the Central Square with many shops around, taxis waiting to take you into town or Bokhali, street vendors welcoming you with pieces of pastel (a local sweet) and the church of Agios Dionysios towering over the center.
Communication with other ports
Besides Kyllini, Igoumenitsa and Bari, Zakynthos is also connected to the island of Kefalonia by small boats sailing by sea from Pesada to the port of Skinari (on the north side of Zakynthos) in one hour and from Sami (Kefalonia).
Ferry tickets
You can now buy ferry tickets online to the island of Zakynthos (Zakynthos) on the website website . If you are planning a trip in July or August, then book your tickets several days in advance. Also note that round trip ferry tickets are cheaper.
Transport connection
The bus station is located next to the port of Zakynthos. There you can look at the notice board and find out directions, departure times and ticket prices. Usually passengers pay for their tickets on the bus. This is the cheapest way to get around the island. You will find taxis in the city and almost every village if you prefer a faster and more refreshing way to travel. Another popular form of transport is "sea taxi" - small boats moored in several harbors that will take you to places inaccessible from land, such as Navagio (Shipwreck) beach, caves, Marathonisi island, etc. And finally, probably the most common way to travel is to rent a car, scooter or ATV (mainly in the village of Laganas). In this case, you'll need to make your reservation a few weeks in advance of your arrival because these vehicles sell out in minutes in the summer.
Travelers arriving at the port of Zakynthos can easily move around the island from one place to another using local buses (KTEL) that connect small towns and villages in Zakynthos. The bus stop is located in the Central Square, where buses in the direction of Laganas, Argasi, Vasiliko, Planos, Alikanas, Katastari, Volimsa, Anafonitria run along or across the island. Buses are the cheapest form of transportation here, with tickets ranging from 1 to 7 euros depending on the destination. During the summer, flights are frequent, with at least one flight per hour, which is sufficient to meet the transportation needs of passengers. The ticket can be purchased on the bus from the driver or conductor. More information about ticket prices and online bookings can be found at www.ktel-zakynthos.gr.
Zakynthos is an island full of contrasts!
The island of Zakynthos (Zakynthos) was called "Iria" and "Iliessa" by Homer by the ancient Greeks, but it owes its current name to Prince Phrygia, who was the first settler. The geographical location of Zakynthos is the main reason for the warm Mediterranean climate; the sun shines on the island almost all year round. In this regard, the flora of Zakynthos includes mainly Mediterranean trees and plants: olive trees, pines, citrus trees, currant bushes, herbs such as oregano and sage, many types of flowers, some of which are rare, such as the insectivorous urticularia near Herodotus's well or sea lilies in Laganas Bay. But what makes Zakynthos popular worldwide in environmental matters are the Caretta Caretta sea turtles in Laganas Bay, where this rare species has found a place to breed and survive.
For this reason, on some beaches in Laganas, umbrellas, sun loungers or any activities that could disturb turtles are prohibited. But this does not apply to the rest of the island, where every holidaymaker can choose sea games and sports on the popular beaches, most of which are located on the east and south side; easy or strenuous walking or even trekking on the many trails inside the island; visiting the many cultural and archaeological sites in the City; research of famous or less popular natural monuments in the northern part; the intense nightlife in Laganas or even the secluded corners of paradise that are scattered throughout.
The Church of Agios Dionysos, the Fortress of Agios Georgios, the Museum of Dionysos Solomos and the Historical Register of Zakynthos are some of the most important attractions in Zakynthos Town. In Laganas Bay, you should visit Herodotus' Well and Marathonisi, a small island where visitors can feel isolated from the rest of the world, as if they were in a modern-day shipwreck. And speaking of shipwrecks, it is impossible not to mention the second "signature" of the island of Zakynthos, the famous "Wreck" (Navagio), a magnificent beach located on the northern cape, surrounded by steep huge cliffs and with a sunken old ship stuck in the sand.
Don't miss a romantic afternoon stroll in Bohali, the seaport town where lost memories come to life as knights, barons and castles emerge in the colors of the Zakynthos sunset.
Try local delicacies: the famous Verdea wine, olive cheese, mantolato, pasteli, fritates, in local shops, at open stalls or local festivals that are held in many villages in the summer, where folk culture is preserved.
Things to do on Zakynthos Island
Be sure to visit Campi at Cape Schiza. The views of the Ionian Sea will take your breath away. In Fokja Bay you can see the seals that mate here every year. In Maries, Kampi and Eco Chora, three small villages, you can buy local fabrics, carpets and tablecloths.
Take a day cruise to Marathonisi Island, opposite Limni Keri Beach. This is a breeding ground for carriage turtles, so boats are not allowed to moor near the shore. You will have to swim the last meters to the island. Do this and you might see a turtle swimming nearby.
The southeastern beach of Gerakas hides many secrets. If you love to walk and are lucky, you can find natural clay and do a spa or facial. On the cape, on the edge of the beach, there is a lot of clay, but access there is prohibited due to landslides. Therefore, you can look for clay without reaching the cape. You can also spot Caretta Caretta turtle eggs in the sand on the beach.
Taverns and restaurants in Zakynthos offer a large selection of Greek delicacies, but if you want to take a break, there are also many Italian dishes on the menu.
Walking, eating and drinking in Bohali is something everyone should try in Zakynthos. You will become part of a fairy tale, feel the cosmopolitan aura and definitely want to return.
Keep in mind
The laws and regulations for the protection of protected species are very strict. Be sure to follow them in areas where turtles and seals live, and don't leave litter because the fines are too high.
The town of Lagonas is a crowded place with an intense nightlife where the fun sometimes goes beyond the limits. If you are holidaying with children, it is better to avoid it, especially in the evening and at night; and be careful when you walk because accidents happen frequently on this road.
Everyone who comes to Zakynthos spends at least one day at Navagio Beach (Shipwreck Beach). There you will see an amazing landscape, but if you wanted to get to the beach from land, then it is better not to, as there have been many accidents on the cliff in recent years. Choose a boat for your trip and stay away from the rocks.
Happy holidays on the magnificent island of Zakynthos!!!

The Greek island of Zakynthos (Zakynthos) is the third largest island in the Ionian Sea and an extremely popular destination for tourists, since kilometers of snow-white beaches with azure water stretch along the entire island, and the holiday itself in Greece can be called more or less budget compared to traveling to the azure beaches of Spain or France. But because this is an island, the issue of transport arises - how to get to the island of Zakynthos.
The area of the island of Zakynthos is about 400 km 2, which is slightly larger than the area of Malta. From the administrative center of the island of the same name to Athens – 330 km.
The island has its own airport 5 km from the town of Zakynthos and 6-10 km from the nearest resort hotel complexes on the Cote d'Azur.
How to get to Zakynthos from Moscow
Despite the presence of an airport on the island, the road to local resorts from Moscow will be somewhat problematic, since in any case you will need to transfer either to another plane in Athens, or to ground transport in the same Athens.
If you look for tickets for the cheapest month flying from Moscow, then you can get from Moscow to Zakynthos and back for 12 thousand rubles, but you will have to make a long layover in Athens. During the peak season - in June - the ticket price rises to 21-22 thousand for a round trip ticket.
Previously, direct flights to Zakynthos flew from Moscow Domodedovo and St. Petersburg Pulkovo, but all these are very rare seasonal flights of small and unknown airlines. Currently we were able to find information about only one direct flight to Zakynthos:
- St. Petersburg – Zakynthos, Elinair airline, one single flight on October 2, 2017, ticket price – 120 € for economy class, 580 € for business class.
As for other proposals, you can hardly hope that they will suddenly appear - the seasonal flight schedule is formed by airlines much in advance, and it should definitely have been ready by April.
How to get to Zakynthos Island from Athens
Airplane
Airplanes fly to Zakynthos airport only from Athens (ATH), Corfu (CFU) and Crete (CHQ). All other flights organized at the airport are seasonal.
The plane from Athens to Zakinothos does not fly every day and not all year. Unfortunately, the official website of the airport, in the best traditions of provincial hospitality, does not provide any updated information for 2017, and the schedule until March 30, 2017 is still posted there.
That is why it is wiser to look for such information on aggregator sites that collect flight data directly from airlines, rather than from airports. You can get to Zakynthos by Sky Express, Olympic Air, Hahn Air.
Travel time is only an hour, the cost of a flight a month in advance averages 8-9 thousand rubles. If you are wondering how to get to the island of Zakynthos from Athens cheaper, start tracking prices well in advance.
Bus
How to get to Zakynthos island even cheaper? By land transport.
The route looks like this:
- You need to get from Athens airport to the bus stop that goes to the city of Kyllini. To do this, we take the X93 bus at the airport. You need to go to the KTEL KIFISOU bus station. The ticket costs 6€. The drive is a little over an hour and a half – 45 km. A detailed route planner with a schedule is available.
- At the bus station we take a bus to the city of Killini. There is a schedule, but, as usual, it is not up to date, so double-check the site before your trip.
Buses usually run from late April to late July and from early September to late October. The number of flights per day is 2-3. The cost of a bus ticket is 28.60 €, you can buy a ticket.
- The last step is to board the ferry from Kyllini to Zakynthos. The ticket price is 8.90€, you can buy it or.
In total, it turns out that getting to Zakynthos from Athens by land transport will cost 43.50 € one way, and it will take many times more time. Well, is it worth it if you can fly to the island from Athens by plane in 55 minutes...?
Experienced tourists warn their “colleagues” against the idea of taking a rental car at Athens airport and returning it to Kyllini - the narrow, bumpy road along which you will have to drive is not at all intended for untrained drivers. And the mortality statistics on this section of the road are not encouraging. It's better to fork out for a taxi if you don't want to fly or take a bus.
How to get to Zakynthos island in another way? And there are no other ways. You can, in principle, take the train to the city of Patras, but from there you will have to take the same bus to Killini and the ferry to the island itself.
There is no direct ferry from Athens to Zakynthos.
How to get to Zakynthos Island from Kefalonia
Another island in the Ionian Sea, Kefalonia, is connected to Zakynthos (Zakynthos) by ferry. On the island of Kefalonia, the necessary crossing is located in the city of Pessada in the south of the island, on Zakynthos it is the port of Agios Nikolaos in the north of the island.
The sailing takes about an hour, the ticket price is 8€. The schedule is not yet available, it will appear closer to summer.

The city is located on the coast of the Ionian Sea, 11 km west of Andravide, 28 km northeast of the island of Zakynthos and 39 km northwest of Pyrgos. The area around Fournia Beach in Kylini has a beautiful golden sand beach and many visitors enjoy the natural spa at the Kylini Baths. The town is about 40 minutes' drive from Ancient Olympia and is home to Chlemoutsi Castle, which consists of the main castle, which is a hexagonal building including a courtyard. The castle is protected from its surroundings by its walls, which have towers along its length.
The city port has several ferries to Zakynthos, Kefalonia, Argostoli, Poros, Ithaca and Sami.
Guide to Zakynthos
The Greek island of Zakynthos is one of the most beautiful and popular islands in the Ionian Sea. It is located in the southern part of the island of Kefalonia, famous for its crystal clear waters and intense nightlife, making it a frequent destination for young visitors. Navagio is the most famous beach on the island, with golden sand and exotic blue waters. Don't miss the boat trip to Navagio and the Blue Caves during your holiday in Zakynthos. Other large beaches on the island include Vassilikos, Gerakas, Spiantza and other places on the south side. Because of their soft sand and clear water, these beaches are used as breeding grounds for Loggerhead sea turtles known as Caretta-Caretta.
Zakynthos has two ports. The main port is located in the city of Zakynthos, and the other in the village of Agios Nikolaos. From the main port there is a connection to the port of Killini, which is the usual route to arrive at the island by sea from the mainland. From the port of Agios Nikolaos there is a connection to the port of Pesada, on the island of Kefalonia.
