Airbus a320neo: how it differs from the rest. First Airbus A320neo in Russia
The Airbus A320neo aircraft is one of the newest airliners of our time. It is an improved copy of the predecessor of the same name. They are distinguished by the neo prefix in the name, which stands for New Engine Option - “new advanced engine”.
A320neo is a narrow body aircraft. It can fit more seats or increase the width of the aisle. Airbus has a whole family of such liners that are in great demand among airlines.
Salon scheme
As is usually the case, cabin layouts on airplanes that offer economy and business class vary. At different airlines they can differ markedly from each other, so it is best to consider the standard one offered by the Airbus manufacturer.

Compared to its predecessor, the Airbus A320, the interior of the new airliner has been significantly improved. It has an advanced filtration system that prevents unpleasant odors. The air in the cabin is completely renewed every 2 minutes. For lighting, modern energy-saving diodes are used.
Business Class
As standard, the airliner has 164 passenger seats, 8 of which are in business class. All chairs are paired, leather and upholstered. Each is equipped with a backrest tilt, but there is no footrest and reclining head pillow. Each armrest has a port for connecting devices via USB and even a full-fledged socket.
Economy class
Compared to the previous version of the aircraft, the economy class of the neo model has been significantly updated. There are even more different innovations than in the business class. Separately, it is worth highlighting the stand for tablets and smartphones, which extends from the back of the chair in front and is fixed with a rubber fastener on top. Thanks to this innovation, passengers can watch a movie on their gadget, which will allow them to pass the flight much faster.
Also, sockets and USB ports were added here, similar to the business class, but with a slight difference: they are located on the back of the previous seat. This is very convenient, because in the old Airbus A320 the socket was under the seat. Because of this, many passengers did not even know what they could use.
Updated personal control panels for passengers located on the ceiling. Now the reading light is more comfortable to the human eye and easier to get used to than it was before. Lamps installed in luminaires can last much longer and use energy-saving technology.
Best Places
Concerning convenient places in an aircraft of this model, then seats in the 6th row (1st in economy) will be more or less acceptable. There is a partition between economy and business class, so the likelihood that someone will throw back their seat on you is reduced to zero. Also, this row is the first to receive food when the stewardess begins to carry it around the cabin.
And now about the negative aspects of these places. First, even though you have enough room for your knees, stretching your legs to full length will not work again because of the partition. Also for chairs. superior comfort several places can be attributed in the 10th row, located in the middle and near the aisle.
The most terrible are the places in the 24th and 25th row. This is especially true for the latter. The backs of the seats will not recline due to the wall standing behind, and for most passengers, the close proximity to the toilet causes significant discomfort.
Other modifications of NEO aircraft
A320 is not the only improved model. The manufacturer has improved almost the entire family of aircraft:
- Airbus A319 neo. An airliner used to transport a small number of passengers over long distances. On average, 150 passengers fit on board, and the flight distance is 7500 km;
- Airbus A321 neo. The aircraft is equipped with the longest fuselage in the entire family. On board can accommodate 220 people. Maximum flight range - 6800 km;
- A330neo. The latest model, which is only being developed, but already several airlines from different countries pre-ordered for it. Designed for 287 seats. It has a wide fuselage. The main competitor is the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. The delivery of aircraft according to the orders made has been carried out since the beginning of 2018.
Specifications
As noted earlier, the "airbus a320 neo" is equipped with new modern engines with reduced fuel consumption and reduced emissions of harmful substances into the atmosphere. The indicator is 50% lower than that allowed by international standards, which is good news.

History of creation
On December 1, 2010, the manufacturer Airbus made an official statement that work had begun on the creation of a modernized A320neo aircraft. After 4 years, on July 1, the first roll-out of the aircraft was carried out
When designing, it was conceived that the "airbus" would significantly overtake its main competitor Boeing with its Boeing 737MAX line of narrow-body aircraft. Composite materials and various aluminum alloys were used in the design, which made it possible to maintain the fuel consumption and weight of the A320 predecessor.
The first flight of an airliner with improved engines also took place in 2014, on September 25, from the Blagnac airport in Toulouse (France). One of the Airbus factories and a test base for testing airliners are also located here. The very first Airbus A320neo was purchased and used by the famous German airline Lufthansa. The event took place on January 21, 2016.
Where is it produced
The production of the aircraft is directly involved in the Airbus S.A.S. plant located in Toulouse. The activity of the enterprise is dispersed in several countries at once: Germany, Spain, Great Britain and France. Airbus President Fabrice Bergier has been in office since 2012. The headquarters and registered office are also located in Toulouse.
Most of Airbus's titanium needs are provided by Russian manufacturers. Since 2016, after the conclusion of the relevant agreement, the company has been assembling Helicopters H135 helicopters in our country.
News, prospects, interesting facts
Personal orders for the aircraft began to be carried out even before he made his first flight. The very first customer was an American airline called Virgin Airlines. In Russia, the first was the S7, which immediately received possession of 10 modified aircraft. For passengers, outwardly it is practically indistinguishable from the A320. The new owner painted all the liners in his "signature" green color.
In total, more than 13,000 a320neo narrow-body aircraft have been sold worldwide. There are slightly more than 400 customers among them. These numbers speak volumes and the modified Airbus family is currently the most popular of all the aircraft produced by Airbus S.A.S. Production is scheduled for 7 years ahead and the number of orders is constantly growing.
There is also an active hype around the A330neo model, which will be delivered at the end of 2017. The aircraft is designed for both medium and long distances. It has more capacity than its counterparts in the family: 287 seats for fully economy class cabins and 257 seats for business class. At the same time, fuel consumption will decrease by 14%, and operating costs by 8%.

Airbus A320neo— deep modernization of the Airbus A320 family of narrow-body medium-haul airliners. The abbreviation NEO stands for New Engine Option. The modernization program was launched by Airbus in 2010 and involved the replacement of an outdated power plant with new engines of the Pratt & Whitney PW1000G and CFM International LEAP-1A families. Non-remotorized aircraft of the A320 family continue to be produced under the name A320ceo (Current Engine Option).
History
By the end of the first decade of the 21st century, Airbus had completed its flagship A380 and continued to work on the latest A350. However, in order to improve its position in competition with Boeing, as well as with liners that were to be created in Russia () and China () in the future, Airbus decided to upgrade its most massive aircraft - the family.
Back in 2006 Airbus deployed the A320E (Enhanced) program. The program involved making improvements to the design and systems of the aircraft in order to achieve a 4-5% increase in economic performance. This was planned to be achieved by installing new winglets (2%), improving the aerodynamics of the airframe (1%), as well as reducing the total weight of the aircraft and installing a new passenger compartment. It was also possible to reduce fuel consumption by modifying the classic CFM56 and V2500 engines.
However, over time, it became clear that this was not enough and it was necessary to carry out more radical work on the liners. The creation of new aircraft was not considered, the A320 was created in the late 1980s and are considered quite young aircraft. Therefore, it was decided to modernize a number of systems and install completely new engines (hence the name NEO - New Engine Option - New engine option. At this time, Pratt & Whitney, as well as its competitor, CFM International, created new generation engines for medium haul liners.
At that time, it was believed that Airbus could sell about 4,000 new-generation aircraft within 15 years, and the program would cost about a billion euros. At the same time, the cost of the updated aircraft will be $6 million higher than the cost of its predecessor (the CEO model). This cost, in addition to more expensive engines, includes an increase in the cost of the airframe ($3.5 million) and the installation of sharklets (about $0.9 million).
Work on the new model was carried out at a fairly high pace. The first A320neo took off in 2014, four years after the NEO program was launched. The certification was carried out using several aircraft equipped with both engine options: Pratt & Whitney PW1100G and CFM International LEAP-1A. During testing, aircraft with these engines flew about 4000 hours.
A320neo aircraft entered regular flights in the spring of 2016, the enlarged A321neo model arrived to customers half a year later, and half a year later, aircraft of the junior A319neo model began to be delivered.
Construction and improvements
In general design, the A320neo is similar to the base A320 - it is a low-wing jet wing with a small sweep and two engines suspended on pylons. Aircraft of different generations are 95% similar. However, the modernization program has made many changes.
sharklets
Airbus launched the new wingtip project in 2009. These large endings are structurally similar to the new carbon fiber endings from the one being created at that time. Because of their resemblance to shark fins, they became known as Sharklet - a compilation of the word Shark (Shark) and Winglet (the usual name for wingtips).
Sharklets are manufactured by KAAD (Korean Air Aerospace Division). They have a height of 2.5 meters and a total weight of 200 kg. With a standard flight over a distance of 2800 km, they reduce fuel consumption by 3.5%. At the same time, for the entire period of operation of the aircraft, they reduce the emission of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere by 700 tons.
Salon
The salons of the liners have also undergone a major modernization. In addition to purely design changes, the efficiency of using the internal space has been increased (first of all, the luggage racks have been enlarged). The new cabin is equipped with more efficient air filters and catalytic converters that neutralize any unpleasant odors that may enter the aircraft. All lighting is made using energy efficient diodes. The cabin is controlled by the crew using touch panels.
In addition, an optional Cabin-Flex configuration has been developed for the liners. It involves the installation of modified doors and allows for more flexibility in changing the layout of the rear galley and toilets, as well as accommodating 20 more passengers on the A321 and 9 more passengers on the A320 without seating compaction. The installation of new doors increases the dry weight of the liners by 100 kg.
At the same time, fuel efficiency per passenger seat is increased by 6%, and in the full configuration of the NEO family, the efficiency increase reaches 20%.
Engines
The main difference between the NEO family and the previous generation is completely new engines. They are also the main visual difference - the LEAP-1A and PW1100G models are much larger than their predecessors: the old engines had a fan diameter of 68 inches (about 173 cm), while the diameter of the new ones reaches 81 inches (more than 205 cm).
In 2010, at an air show in Singapore, Airbus announced the launch of a tender for the selection of new engines for the NEO family. The choice, in the end, fell on the two most advanced at that time new CFM LEAP-1A and P&W PW1100G engines. New power plants burn 16% less fuel, however, their efficiency has decreased by 1-2% due to the fact that they are not installed on a completely new liner, but on modernized, but still old aircraft. At the same time, thanks to the new engines, Airbus also managed to reduce the cost of maintaining the power plant by 20% compared to older models.
The amount of fuel in aircraft has remained virtually unchanged and, thanks to lower fuel consumption in flight, the A320neo can carry 2 tons more cargo or fly 950 km further.
Engine models are selected by the customer. The first flightable A320neo was equipped with PW1100G-JM engines. It received FAA certification in 2014.
Both new A320neo power plants are significantly quieter than their predecessors (the noise level on takeoff does not exceed 83 - 85 dB - for older engines this figure exceeds 100 dB).
Airbus A320neo is a new generation. History and description of the airliner
Modifications
Airbus serially produces 3 modifications of the NEO family. These are the A319neo, A320neo and A321neo models. Due to the low demand for the youngest model A318, it was decided not to release it (at least until potential customers appear).
A319 neo
Airbus A319neo is the youngest model of the family with a shortened fuselage and a capacity of up to 160 passengers. The launch customer was supposed to be Qatar Airways, however, in the contract, it replaced the order for the A319 with an order for the A320. Not yet operated on regular flights (as of 2017).
A320neo is the base and most popular model. The aircraft made its first flight in September 2014. Has a capacity of up to 195 passengers.
The liner was handed over to the launch customer - Lufthansa in 2016. After six months of operation, it was announced that the airline has achieved a reduction in passenger costs by 20% and an operational reliability of 8 aircraft by 99.7%.
As of March 2017, there were 88 aircraft in the fleets of 20 airlines: 49 with PW1000G engines and 39 with CFM LEAP-1A engines. Aircraft made more than 37 thousand flights and spent more than 57 thousand hours in the air (on average, about 1.5 hours per flight).
A321neo is the oldest and most spacious model of the family. In a 1-class layout, it can accommodate up to 240 passengers. With an increased weight, the aircraft has a reinforced landing gear and a larger wing area.
The aircraft made its first flight in February 2016. Until 2017, the aircraft received EASA and FAA certificates with both powerplant options.
Virgin America became the first operator of the liners of this model (184 seats in two classes with LEAP engines).
A321 LR
In addition to the A321neo, Airbus is building a version with an extended range. The plane is designed for landing 164 passengers. The decrease in capacity is offset by the installation of additional fuel tanks. In this configuration, the aircraft has a range of 7,400 km - more than with lower operating costs (by 27%). The aircraft is scheduled to enter the market in 2018.
Orders and deliveries
The A320neo family was announced in 2010. By 2012, Airbus had orders for 2,000 aircraft, the fastest contracting rate in commercial aviation history. For 2017, the portfolio of orders exceeds 5,000 units from 72 operators around the world, of which more than a hundred have already been delivered to the fleets of 24 airlines.

Apparently, that's the way it is.
Judging by recent events, the airline from Siberia sets itself very, very ambitious goals, aimed primarily at passenger comfort and cost reduction.
And this is not about reducing the list of services, but about ... the latest models of aircraft.
Surprisingly, one of the most technologically advanced aircraft today - the Airbus A320neo - was the first to appear in the fleet of S7 Airlines, 3 more are in line only before the end of this year, and for the next few years the airline has set the task of updating its entire A320 fleet to this model.
On Friday, I was in Toulouse, at the Airbus factory where these aircraft are manufactured, just in time for the handover ceremony of the first aircraft of the S7 airline. It was here that I was one of the first to get on board the handsome A320neo, to see what was new and innovative for passengers, and also to communicate with the airline and Airbus management regarding further plans for cooperation.
Below is everything in detail, including a review of the new aircraft.
2. To be honest, I have never been present at the ceremony of handing over an aircraft to an airline before and thought little about how this happens.
In fact, this is not a car that you buy at a car dealership, where other buyers are at the same time with you, to whom managers draw up documents or simply demonstrate this or that model. Airplanes are bought in a completely different way. And in a completely different way they hand over the "keys" to the steering wheel. Especially when it's some kind of novelty for the airline and the manufacturer.
An airplane is bought differently than a car: no one sells ready-made airliners from a warehouse here. The supply contract is signed in advance, and, as a rule, it includes not just one aircraft, but a certain batch. Then the customer determines the layout and many additional nuances, and only after that the plant starts assembling the aircraft directly for the customer. Then tests, acceptance (sometimes long and captious), and after the handover ceremony ... A lot of time passes between the moment the contract is signed and the moment the first side is handed over, sometimes even several years!
3. S7 Airlines is not a new partner of Airbus, they have been cooperating for more than 13 years. And if earlier this cooperation was carried out within the framework of classical models, then on Friday there was a significant event for S7 - the transfer of the latest Airbus A320neo. Moreover, this is the first aircraft of the new generation A320 in Russia!
It was for this reason that it was not managers who arrived at the ceremony, but persons from the top management of both companies: the plane was "handed over" by Airbus Vice President for Eastern Europe and Central Asia Andreas Kramer, and "received" by S7 Chairman of the Board of Directors Vladislav Filev
4. The ceremony was not dragged out for a long time, and after 10 official minutes, the curtains opened in the hall with giant panoramic windows and everyone present was still gleaming with fresh paint Airbus A320neo in the new S7 Airlines livery
5. I must say that the ceremonial aircraft transfer hall at the Airbus Delivery Center is something resembling an amphitheater, allowing guests and journalists to admire brand new aircraft from different angles - whether you want it in front, you want it in profile. Who does not want to go outside - through the panoramic windows, who is not afraid of dank weather - a balcony or a platform.
By the way, please note that in the background you can see several more tails in the liveries of different airlines: these are aircraft that will be handed over to customers in the coming days /
6. Now let's talk about the new product in detail, because this is the most important thing!
A320neo is the heir to the most successful series Airbus airlines- A320. The neo program was launched in 2010 and is based on a deep remotorization of the 320 family (New Engine Option), the main task of which is to seriously improve the efficiency and ergonomics of aircraft. Technically, the A320neo is 95% unified with the A320, and the main changes relate to engines, aerodynamics and passenger comfort. That is, A320 pilots do not need to retrain for a new type of aircraft. For the airline, these airliners become very profitable from an economic point of view, and for passengers - from the point of view of comfort (more on that below)
7. Let's start with passengers!
First and foremost, the cabin of the A320 family is currently the widest among narrow-body aircraft: it is 18 centimeters wider than its direct competitor - Boeing 737 and 737Max, which allows you to install either wider seats or a wider aisle.
In the cabin of the A320neo for the S7, the aisle width is standard, and the six leather seats installed in a row in a standard 3 + 3 arrangement are 18 inches wide (each 1 inch wider than in Boeing).
The shape of the interior lining of the cabin has changed, which gives more space for the shoulders of passengers at the porthole.
8. The step between the seats remained the same as in the standard cabin of the A320 airline S7 - 71 cm.
9. There is enough legroom and a person of average height does not rest his knees on the chair in front of him
10. Another significant innovation of the A320neo compared to the classic model is the increased luggage racks. Now standard 10-kilogram suitcases fit here not only lying "on the back", but also on the "side", which allows you to put 1 more suitcase in each section. For the increasingly popular system of baggage-free fares and trips with only hand luggage, this is an absolute plus.
12. For my A320neo S7, I ordered a 156 + 8 layout, i.e. 156 economy class seats and 8 business class seats.
The business here is full-fledged, 2 + 2, with comfortable wide leather seats, and not like many European companies with standard economy class seats with a locked middle.
13. For seats in business class, only the backrest is adjustable, the bottom cushion does not move, the footrest is not provided.
But there are USB ports on each armrest and a full socket
14. Sasha alexcheban in his usual incarnation - in a business class chair.
I'm completely relaxed, I don't fly economy)
15. Let's see what is offered for economy passengers. Surprise, but... there are more chips for them than in business)
The most important is the special stand-holder for smartphones and tablets that has appeared.
It is hidden behind a folding table and activated very simply: you need to fold the table, raise the trapezoidal plastic stand and then insert the gadget into one of the three slots and fix it with a dynamic rubber latch on top.
Now it's convenient to watch movies in the cabin of an airplane and you don't need to invent, as I recently did for nemihail
16. Done! Now aircrafts more convenient for people will also appear on Russian routes.
As in business class, each passenger has a full-fledged socket and a USB connector for charging gadgets.
They are located more conveniently than in the old series, at the bottom of the chair in front of you, and not under yours (which led to the fact that many did not even know that they had a socket under the chair)
17. Separately, it is worth mentioning the passenger's personal panel under the ceiling.
Airbus upgraded them and these modules have become more convenient to manage and operate. The new LED reading lamps are more economical and also last longer. In addition, this light is more easily perceived by the human eye.
18. Kitchen and flight attendant workspace
19. Dressing room.
By the way, Airbus engineers have developed a special catalytic converter for unpleasant odors for toilets and for the cabin, which guarantees the freshness of the air. In addition, the air conditioning system allows you to completely replace the air every 2 minutes and guarantees an even distribution of air inside the cabin.
20. Now let's look at the aircraft from the outside, because this is where the main difference between the A320neo model and the classic A320 lies. It is easy to distinguish between these two aircraft: by the engine nacelles. The A320neo has visually huge engines!
And it is in the engines, as well as the wingtips, that the main secret of the almost 20% reduction in fuel consumption of the new airliner lies!
The A320neo aircraft are offered with a choice of two high-efficiency engines: Pratt & Whitney's Pure Power PW1100G-JM (which is the engine used on S7 aircraft) or CFM International's LEAP-1A.
21. The second feature of this type is the Sharklets wingtips. Airbus began to install them on the A319, A320 and A321 aircraft from the end of 2012, and for the A320neo family they are standard, in addition, they are made of composite materials.
Sharklets improve aircraft aerodynamics and reduce drag by reducing “stall”, resulting in a 4% reduction in fuel consumption on long hauls, equivalent to a reduction in CO2 emissions of 1,000 tons per year per aircraft.
In terms of fuel, sharklets increase the flight range by about 185 km or payload by 450 kg.
By the way, the sharklets are 2.4 meters high!
22. Currently, the final assembly of the A320 family aircraft is carried out at four sites: in Toulouse (France), Hamburg (Germany), Tianjin (China) and Mobile (USA). The A320neo is only made in Toulouse, where the A350 and A380 are also made (pictured)
23. When everyone took plenty of pictures of the plane, there was a little time for a photo shoot against the backdrop of the plane

27. Here is a parting word from the Airbus factory to the first flight of a new aircraft...
28. July 21, 14.00, the aircraft starts the engines, and the pilots say goodbye to the journalists who see them off, S7 management and Airbus representatives
29. Everyone gathered on the balcony

31. The dispatcher gives permission to taxi
32. By the way, pay attention to the green fuselage in the far part of the frame, this is the next A320neo for S7, which will be transferred very soon
33. At the moment when we are filming the aircraft taxiing from the airfield, Marina photographersha
took this picture from a Lufthansa A320 taking off en route to Munich.
34. Breakaway! A little over three hours later, the new plane landed at Domodedovo Airport, where it went through customs clearance and the next day it was on the Moscow-Novosibirsk line
35. If you want to be among the first to feel the smell and comfort of a new aircraft, look for it on flights to Novosibirsk.
S7 representatives promise to put a note that it is the A320neo that is flying on a particular flight in the very near future
36. On my own behalf, I would like to wish the airline the speedy implementation of ambitious plans to upgrade the fleet. We, the passengers, will only get better from this.
The Airbus A320neo family of aircraft, the abbreviation "neo" (new engine option) means "new engine option", is the next generation of the A320 family - narrow-body medium-haul aircraft manufactured by the European concern Airbus.
The liner made its first flight on September 25, 2014, and already in January 2016 the first production aircraft entered the service of the airline.
The air fleet of S7 Airlines uses 9 aircraft of this type. The cabin accommodates two classes of passenger service - business and economy. The total number of seats on board is 164, of which 8 are business class and 156 seats are for passengers in economy class.

1 and 2. The first two rows of the aircraft are occupied by business class.
For the convenience of passengers, it is equipped with comfortable combined leather seats, made in black and grape colors. There is a separate toilet and wardrobe. Separated from the economy class by a screen. A typical modern business class for this type of aircraft.
If for some reason you are not very comfortable looking at the “wall” for the entire flight, we recommend taking seats in the second row.

3 row. First row economy class service. Places "Extra Space".
This is the first section of "luxury" seats on board this vessel. Convenience lies in the distance increased by 20-25 centimeters from the front row or partition / screen. You will be very comfortable in this row throughout the entire flight - you can stretch your legs forward and get up from your seat without disturbing your neighbors.
The current practice of many airlines involves the collection of an additional fee from the passenger for the location in such places. The cost of such a service at S7 Airlines starts from 1,000 rubles and varies depending on the type of aircraft and the duration of the flight. Also, there are categories of passengers who, according to aviation security rules, cannot be located in such places. This provision is based on the fact that Extra Space seats are most often placed after emergency hatches.
Detailed information about the provision of the service is available on the S7 Airlines website.
9 and 10 rows. In the area of these rows is the first emergency exit to the wing.
According to aviation security rules, in order not to impede access to the hatches during a possible emergency, it is forbidden to place any luggage at the “legs” or under the seat. Also, the seatbacks in these rows are blocked or severely limited in reclining.
Be careful and try not to get into such places. During a long flight, this can cause some discomfort.
11 row. The second section of chairs "Extra Space". The pluses here are the same, but there is a small minus, as on rows 9-10, you cannot place hand luggage in the aisle, blocking the approaches to the second escape hatch.
28 row. The last row on the plane. Proximity of toilets, blocked seats, a constant flow of people to the restrooms - these are the disadvantages that will create discomfort during the flight. Not very comfortable places.
Register for this row only if there are no other options.

Happy flight!
In 2010, the European aircraft manufacturer Airbus announced the start of design work on the A320neo. This narrow-body jet was the result of a deep redesign of the basic version of the A320.
At the launch of the A320neo in Paris in 2011, Airbus closed deals worth more than sixty billion dollars.
In 2014, the first copy soared into the skies of France. Two years later, the German carrier Lufthansa received this novelty for use. The cost of the liner is up to 110 million dollars.
The A320neo family also includes the A319neo (short) and A321neo (long).
Airbus A320neo is an improved model with a fundamentally new category of engines. Installing large (more than 2 meters in diameter) LEAP-1A or PW1100G motors on the aircraft contributes to the following changes:
- reduction in kerosene consumption by 15 - 17%
- reduction of operating costs by 8 - 10%
- reduction of harmful emissions into the natural atmosphere by more than 10%
- noise reduction
- increase in flight range by 960 kilometers
- increase in load capacity by 2000 kilograms
The glider itself was also modernized: “sharklets” (shark fin) were installed at the tips of the wings, the air conditioning system was reworked, and the luggage compartment was made larger.
Thanks to the latest engines and unique wingtips (2.4 meters), the manufacturers say that maintenance and operation costs will be reduced by almost a quarter compared to the base model. The Airbus A320neo has the lowest noise level of its class.
Externally, the A320neo almost completely repeats the appearance of the A320 model. The difference was the widespread use of composites (plastic reinforced with fiberglass and carbon fiber) and aluminum alloys. This made the design stronger, lighter and more ergonomic.
The aircraft has modern cockpit equipment. Thomson-CSF supplied a unique set of software. "Intellectual filling" displays data on LCD monitors, warns of emergency situations. All equipment is certified and complies with the requirements of the ARINC 700 standard.
Changes in the interior of the cabin
Improvements have also been made to the passenger compartment. Illumination is made with current LEDs. The interior decoration will satisfy the most demanding taste.
The distance between the rows has increased, creating more space for the passenger. Stands for gadgets (tablets, smartphones, laptops), sockets and USB connectors appeared: two pieces for three row chairs. These changes affected both the business class and the economy cabin. Press, booklets are placed in pockets at the top of the chair. The kitchen areas have also become much larger, which is favorable for flight attendants.
A distinctive feature and advantage of the new liner was the absence of toilets directly behind the last row. Now two bathrooms are equipped in the tail section of the aircraft.

Last news:
In 2017, S7 Airlines (brand of the Russian air carrier Siberia) purchased the first A320neo. In total, it is planned to buy 16 copies. The car is painted in the traditional, bright green color of the company. Passengers have already appreciated the level of comfort offered. It is noted that in the future, these airbuses will form the basis of the S7 fleet. In the spring of 2018, S7 Airlines will launch direct flights between Moscow and the Spanish resort island of Tenerife. There will be flights from Domodedovo Airport twice a week.
The Russian holding "Engineering" has modernized the painting hangar, it is here that the painting of liners for the S7 fleet is carried out. On the basis of the aviation training center S7 "Engineering", technical specialists are being trained who will be able to service A320neo airbuses. Contractual relations were concluded for the implementation of heavy repairs at the sites of this technical holding.
Aviation conglomerate Airbus at its plant in China plans to bring the monthly number of produced A320 machines to five copies. At the beginning of 2020, this figure will increase to six. A corresponding bilateral agreement has already been signed.
Prospects and competition in the sky
Airbus plans to manufacture and sell more than 4,700 of its A320 aircraft to commercial customers over the next fifteen years. Back in 2011, she signed an unprecedented contract with the Malaysian carrier AirAsia for the supply of two hundred aircraft.
The growing demand in the world to conquer regional distances laid the foundation for new developments by the world's leading aircraft builders. Many commercial carriers are beginning to move away from wide-body airliners. The most popular twin-engine liners with a narrow fuselage. There is a widespread replacement of heavy high-budget cars with more economical models.
The main competitors of the A320neo are the latest airliners for short and medium routes Boeing 737MAX, Bombardier CSeries, Comac C919 and MC-21. All models are exceptionally promising and comfortable.
Aircraft manufacturer Airbus has a huge number of orders for the A320neo, as well as other aircraft in the family: A319, A320 and A321.
Analyzing the first years of operation of this machine and the speed of receipt of applications, this liner can be called the leader in continental transportation.
