How much does it cost to stay in the blue lagoon
There is no resort holiday, because this is a northern island with a harsh climate, although this opinion is erroneous and in fact there are high-class resorts in Iceland, focused on both active and calm, relaxing holidays.
Indeed, there are no full-fledged and familiar places where one could sunbathe or swim in the sea. But other types of resort holidays are presented, for example, we are talking about skiing or about.
What to do in Iceland?First of all, this country is suitable for outdoor activities, during which you will be able to admire the unique northern beauties.
Especially popular among tourists are natural attractions, which include: Reynisdrangar rocks, Nautholsvik beach, Lake Edlidavatn, Hvitserkur rock, and many others.
But we will focus on resort vacation in Iceland, especially since it is relatively inexpensive.
Ski resorts in Iceland
If magnificent Iceland beckons you, ski resorts will be a kind of cherry on top of all the other delights of this country.
Huge, by the standards of Europe, ski resorts are not here, but there are five very well-appointed and comfortable resorts that will satisfy the needs of not only beginners, but also experienced skiers and snowboarders.
It is noteworthy that when the season in Europe is already coming to an end, in Iceland it is just reaching its peak. Modern tracks are equipped with lighting devices, which allows you to ski not only in daylight, but also in the evening.
We add that one ski pass, worth 120 euros (according to data for 2016), gives access to five ski resorts countries, which we will discuss below. Thus, the Icelanders lure tourists who still want to ride, but can no longer do it on their usual European mountain slopes.
Saudarkrokur-Tindastoll
This resort is located near the town. Primarily recommended for family vacation, although fans of fast skating will be satisfied. The resort attracts: picturesque landscapes, an effective snowmaking system, modern snow parks.
Siglufjordur
This resort is located next to a small village, whose inhabitants have long been engaged in fishing. However, it is here that the best ski slopes in all of Iceland are built.
The height of the track is 650 meters. A lift with comfortable seats lifts to the very top. By the way, from the top of the track, you can enjoy an amazing view of the Siglufjord fjord.
Olafsfjordur
The resort got its name in honor of the city where it is located. Nearby is one of the most beautiful fjords on the entire island called Eia.
Many gentle but not long slopes are ideal for slalom skiing, although other skiing options are also possible.
This resort, like Saudarkrokur-Tindastoll, is located near Akureyri, although at a certain distance from other ski slopes.
It will please with a large number of slopes of various difficulty levels, but the most interesting for skiers is the main track, the length of which exceeds 1200 meters.
Hlidarfjall
Hlidarfjall is also located in Akureyri. Hlidarfjall is one of the first ski slopes built and opened in Iceland. For the first time they began to ride on it back in the seventies of the last century. From the top ski slope offers a wonderful view of the Eia fjord.
Thermal spasIceland is a country of geysers and hot springs, of which there are an incredible variety. Even just among the mountains or valleys, you can come across springs with hot water, in which you can swim all year round.
Naturally, there are full-fledged resorts where the full range of tourist services is provided. So, the best thermal resorts are located in the following cities and regions of the country:
Immediately, we note that in Reykjavik there is not only thermal springs for swimming. Houses are heated with hot water from underground sources, and therefore there are no boiler rooms and smoking pipes in the city, which makes the air incredibly clean!
We also note Kopavogur, where the largest pool with geothermal waters is located. It is comfortably located on Borgarholt hill.
If we talk directly about the resorts, then the best of them is in, known to the whole world. The resort is located in the southwest of Iceland and impresses with lakes created by nature in solidified lava, and the purest water, with amazingly beneficial and healing properties..
The Blue Lagoon is located just 30 kilometers from Reykjavik, the capital of Iceland. The natural pools are under open sky, and the water temperature in them throughout the year is approximately +39 degrees.
Water has a positive effect on the skin, the state of the body, relieves stress. The resort sells cosmetics, which contain an abundance of minerals obtained from the local water.
How to get to Iceland? The best option is by plane. Although there are no direct flights from Moscow to Reykjavik. You will have to fly with one or two transfers. Travel time - from 6 and a half to 20 and a half hours, depending on the chosen route and the time of connections between flights.
You will have to travel by ground transport. Firstly, the country itself is relatively small, and all the resorts are close to each other. Second, it's cheaper.
The Blue Lagoon, also known as Blue lagoon, was included in the list of 25 unique spa complexes this year, which are worth a visit not only for those who know how the abbreviation spa stands for, but for everyone-everyone-everyone. I visited the Blue Lagoon in January of this year and am ready to honestly talk about the pros and cons of the most famous spa-complex Iceland.
To begin with, the custom of spending evenings (and sometimes days) in thermal pools is instilled in Icelanders from infancy. In Reykjavik, thermal pools can be found at every turn, a visit (provided that you buy a subscription) costs around 1.5 euros, and all Icelanders at least a couple of times a week consider it their duty to lie in hot thermal water in the open air.

In hot baths you can meet people of any age: from gray-haired old men to babies who still don’t know how to sit; the rules for visiting the pools are standard: he came, undressed, took a shower, dried himself, ran out into the street and dived into the water. The only fundamental difference. In Iceland, before taking thermal baths, it is necessary not only to rinse in the shower, but also to wash your hair, and since my mother taught all of us in childhood that only suicides who decided to get meningitis go out with a wet head, the rule of washing your hair is very confusing for novice bathers. Oddly enough, you should not be afraid, the danger of catching a cold, and even more so of getting sinusitis or meningitis, is greatly exaggerated, at least I was convinced from my own experience that a wet head in hot baths in the fresh air is not a hindrance.
In the photo: Blue Lagoon thermal complex
Thermal complex Blue Lagoon it differs from all other pools not only in its surroundings, but also in the fact that the water of the Blue Lagoon is rich in clay, algae and all kinds of microorganisms that are beneficial to health and, as a result, beauty. Due to clay and algae, the water in the lagoon has a characteristic blue hue, hence the name of the complex. We discovered the Blue Lagoon, one might say, by accident. The fact is that in Iceland, renewable natural energy sources are used to generate electricity, mainly volcanic water.
Near the place where the Blue Lagoon spa complex is now open, a power station was also built, by the way, it still functions to this day. Soon, near the power plant, water of an unusual blue color began to beat. Scientists became interested in a curious natural phenomenon, after a short research they found out that local water, as well as clay, algae and microorganisms can improve the condition of skin, hair and nails. Since the principle of “everything in business” is close to the Icelanders, a spa complex was erected on the fault site, and after a while production was also established.

It is better to set aside a whole day to visit the Blue Lagoon. Firstly, there is a thermal complex outside of Reykjavik, about 30 minutes away by car. If you have not rented a car, bus tickets to the Blue Lagoon can be bought at one of the Reykjavik tourist offices, however, keep in mind the fact that the tour. buses are often late, if you are not at all lucky, you can wait for the vehicle for thirty minutes. Second moment. It is better to buy tickets for visiting the Blue Lagoon in advance on the website. The price of the basic ticket includes only swimming. Want a bathrobe, flip flops, masks and drinks at the local bar right in the middle of the pool? Then book a premium ticket.
Another funny moment. After buying a ticket, a confirmation comes to the email, in order to avoid unpleasant situations, it is better to print it out and bring it with you in paper form. The entrance to the Blue Lagoon is a path laid between hardened pieces of black lava. The edges of the pool are also decorated with the same massive pieces of lava, for this reason, you should be careful near the sides so as not to inadvertently scratch yourself on the lava.
Before diving into the healing waters of the Blue Lagoon, showering and washing your hair is strictly required. A small bonus for those who are afraid to go outside with wet hair - the cabins of the spa complex are equipped with Blue Lagoon gel and shampoo dispensers, so you will not wash your hair with anything, but with the most expensive Icelandic shampoo.
Inside, the spa-complex fully reflects the Icelandic idea of what luxury is, namely, a stylish interior, which, unfortunately, is not well thought out in terms of elementary comfort. For example, for some reason, there are only two benches in the locker room, as a result, guests of the Blue Lagoon have to change clothes while standing, touching a neighbor pulling off her pantyhose with her shoulder. Or there are only three hair dryers in the rest room, as a result, during “rush hours”, queues of people who want to dry their hair line up at the tables. The thing is that the Icelanders themselves do not pay attention to such nuances at all, judge for yourself if all life passes in harsh weather conditions, little things like an uncomfortable bench in the locker room cannot bother.
However, as soon as you find yourself in the thermal pool of the Blue Lagoon, any thoughts (especially about the lack of seats in the locker room) evaporate by themselves, and you understand, here it is, that very unearthly pleasure, for which it was worth flying to Iceland in the middle of winter! Thick steam rises from the water, guests cruise around the lagoon (there is not enough depth to swim), trying to find areas where the water is not just warm, but hot. The fact is that the pool is not additionally heated, as a result, all guests of the Blue Lagoon, whether they like it or not, are included in the “cold-hot” game, stepped a step - cool, walked a couple of meters - fell into a stream of hot water.
In the photo: on the shores of the Blue Lagoon pool
There is a bar in the center of the pool. The range of the bar allows you to either improve your health by drinking vitamin cocktails inside, or increase your degree - in addition to healthy drinks, there are alcoholic drinks on sale, by the way, guests of the Blue Lagoon order drinks of the second type with great enthusiasm.
Every now and then a young man appears on the side of the pool, his face and stately figure reminiscent of a Viking from the Scandinavian epic. Only a modern Viking is armed not with a battle ax, but with an iPad, and his work is peaceful - to photograph the guests of the Blue Lagoon and immediately send pictures to them in real time by email.
In the photo: a photo taken by a young Viking
In addition to drinks, the local bar sells scrubs and blue clay masks (if you booked a premium ticket, then you are entitled to a scrub and mask by default). They give out beauty products in plastic cups, these are usually used for draft beer at various music festivals. By the way, the Icelanders themselves don’t buy masks and scrubs in a bar on the water, they say, why spend money on something that lies under your feet for free? Really, blue clay accumulates at the sides at the bottom of the pool, Icelanders collect clay from the bottom and apply it on the face. Remember what I said about the attitude of the inhabitants of the country to comfort? Here is a clear confirmation of my words.
In addition to the outdoor pool in the Blue Lagoon, there are saunas, a waterfall, which are mandatory for all thermal complexes, as well as a grotto, in which lights simulating candles are lit after dark, plus you can turn on music in the grotto, or listen to information about the Blue Lagoon. Perhaps, artificial grotto- the most romantic part of the thermal complex, associations involuntarily arise with the very cave where Jon Snow and Ygritte indulged in love in the Game of Thrones (by the way, this scene was filmed just in Iceland). It's a pity, though, in the grotto of the Blue Lagoon is always full of people, so you can't fool around like the heroes of the series. By the way, another important point. The water in the Blue Lagoon is not only not additionally heated, but also not cleaned with all kinds of chemicals, it is completely renewed on its own during the day, so there is no need to add bleach and other disinfectants.
And finally, about the Lava restaurant, which is open right thermal complex Blue Lagoons. His visit caused mixed feelings. On the one hand, the kitchen, which is run by chefs Þráinn Freyr Vigfússon (recognized as the best chef in Iceland in 2013) and Viktor Örn Andrésson, is beyond praise. The local smoked salmon and rack of lamb are the best I've had on the island.
In the photo: rack of lamb in the Lava restaurant
But the service, unfortunately, is peculiar in Icelandic, firstly, the restaurant manager, regardless of whether you have a table reserved or not, you have to wait for 15-20 minutes (it is not allowed to sit at a table on your own), and secondly, waitresses ply around the hall very sporadically. In a word, not that the appetite disappears, but the desire to leave a tip does not arise.
However, in order for the impression of the dubious service of the Lava restaurant to disappear, after dinner you just need to dive into the waters of the Blue Lagoon again. They are magical, not only rejuvenate the skin and hair, but also instantly wash away both irritation and discontent.

March 3, 2014Geothermal resort Blue Lagoon - fabulous, incredible a nice place on the map of Iceland. This amazing lake with water, the hue of which combines a mixture of milk and incredible blueness, attracts a large number of tourists to its expanses. Many guests of this Icelandic resort come here more than once.
The most famous spa resort in Iceland
The healing properties of water were discovered quite by accident. Employees of a thermal power plant located near the lake, after bathing in it, began to notice that their health improved, both hair and nails grew faster, excess weight was lost, skin was cleansed of various rashes.
Observations confirmed their guesses. As eyewitnesses say, one patient with psoriasis, walking next to a hot one, slipped and fell into the water. Healing water worked wonders - the disease receded after a while. Then the city authorities called scientists to study the properties that this reservoir has.
Healing water of the Blue Lagoon
Studies have shown that milky blue water contains various salts, minerals, clay, algae, and quartz. The temperature in the lake is kept at +37 degrees. The hydrogen content indicator is 7.5%. And the content of mineral salts is almost 2.5%.
Under such conditions, with a large tourist flow (up to 300 thousand per year), a huge amount of various bacteria should appear in the lake. But the Blue Lagoon holds another secret - there are no bacteria here! This is another confirmation that the wonders of nature keep many puzzles and mysteries.
Geothermal water helps to get rid of extra pounds, defeat cellulite, treats skin diseases. Various mineral salts have a beneficial effect on the entire body. Blue and greener algae, quartz has miraculous properties. White clay, which covers the bottom of the lake, helps to get rid of problems of the skin of the face and body.
Relax in one of the best spa resorts in Europe
The complex, located next to a geothermal lake, includes a clinic, a spa center, a restaurant, a shop that sells excellent Blue Lagoon cosmetics, developed on the basis of local water, clay and mineral salts.
Guests of the "Blue Lagoon" can take a course of spa treatments, which includes: body wraps based on algae, salt peeling, lymphatic drainage, various types of massage, mud baths. The Blue Lagoon line of cosmetics works real miracles, making the skin smooth and velvety, smoothing out wrinkles and cleansing the surface of the body from scales and growths.
Patients of the dermatological clinic can stay in a room that meets all requirements. The conclusion of the attending physician is obligatory, which recommends treatment in this sanatorium-resort complex. Already after a week of taking the first procedures, there is a significant improvement in the patient's skin diseases.
The nature around this wonderful corner of nature also helps healing. Rocky coast, amazing, fumaroles, hot springs, fields covered with volcanic lava. And also - a noisy, colorful bird market, where many species of birds are found.
The Blue Lagoon is a magnificent spa resort that has won the honorary Blue Flag award many times. This sign means recognition of this complex as one of the most environmentally friendly places on Earth. And in 2005, the magnificent Blue Lagoon was awarded the title of The Best Thermal Spa and Medical Complex in the World! Pride - a wonderful SPA complex is always happy to welcome guests.
What could be more beautiful - to bask in a warm lake with azure water and admire the northern lights sparkling in the sky above the huge rocks ...
