Ski resort Stubai. Austria. Ski resort Stubai Stubai on the map of Austria
The Stubaital is a picturesque valley in Tyrol, just a 20-minute drive from Innsbruck. The Stubai is a glacier overlooking the valley and a popular ski resort.
Snow lies on the glacier for eight months of the year, happy skiers already ski in October, and the last tourists with winter luggage leave the resort in June. Seductive, right?
It remains to be said that Stubai is quite suitable for a family holiday. Ski schools with playgrounds for children, children's programs for winter and summer, hotels with a range of services for young guests - everything contributes to making the trip enjoyable for your family.
Kidpassage has collected all the important information about holidays with children in Stubai: find out when it is best to go to the resort and what to do in your spare time from skiing.
Stubai on the map of Austria
Stubai, or Fulpmes - Neustift is a ski resort in western Austria, in the federal state of Tyrol, not far from the border with Italy. It is part of the district of Innsbruck. The distance from Fulpmes to Innsbruck is 21 km, to Salzburg - 200 km, to Munich (Germany) - 176 km, to Vaduz (Liechtenstein) - 180 km.
The part of the Alps where Stubai is located is known high altitudes. The valley is surrounded by three-thousander mountains - thanks to this, skiing is possible from October to June.
Vacation with children
ski resort Stubai is good in Austrian style. The picturesque nature is accompanied by excellent ski infrastructure, a variety of hotels and apartments, restaurants local cuisine- everything you need for a pleasant trip.
A family holiday in Stubai has its advantages. The first - ski schools for kids where classes resemble a fun game. Children are engaged in special areas, the lessons are fun and safe.
The second plus is there is a lot of interesting things in Stubai for children. In winter, it is sledding and skating, snowshoeing, a visit to an ice cave, in summer - rest in a children's amusement park, hiking in the mountains and trips on excursions.
The third plus family hotels where they make sure that you have a good rest with your child. In such hotels there are cots and high chairs, and parents have free time while the child frolic in the game room or is passionate about activities in the mini club.
Some hotels provide everything you need for a holiday with a baby.
Important: Stubai is a mountain resort and acclimatization can take several days. Plan your trip to Stubai with children so that the child has enough time to adjust.
When is the best time to go
The skiing season in Stubai overlaps with the summer season, with some catching the sun on the beach by the pool and others skiing. On the Stubai glacier, snow lies from October to early June - only high-altitude Sölden can boast of such a duration of skiing.
And yet the main part of the season is the period from December to mid-April. At this time, all the slopes and lifts of the resort, children's parks, ski schools are open. In October-November and in April-May, only part of the slopes are open, the après-ski program is very modest.
When is the best time to go to Stubai? If you prefer empty tracks to all entertainment, you can come to the resort in autumn or in the second half of spring.
By the official opening of the season in Stubai, in the pre-Christmas period, a lot of tourists come. The second mass arrival falls on February-March. Relatively few tourists in January and April.
Holidays with a child can be planned for the summer. The warm season here is more correctly called cool, but this weather is better for walking and excursions than the heat. It is good to come to Stubai with a baby in the summer to enjoy peace and fresh air.
Weather and climate
Information about the climate of Stubai can give chills to those who do not like frosty and snowy winters. But skiers appreciate frost and snow, which means that the weather on the glacier will be a joy for them.
October is considered the beginning of winter in Stubai. By this time, snow is already on the highlands, and in the village the temperature drops to + 3-7 ° C during the day and to -1-5 ° C at night.
In November, the daytime temperature drops to zero, at night frosts are possible down to -19-24 ° C, although the average temperature is between -4-14 ° C. At the end of the month, snowfalls begin, thanks to which at the beginning of winter it is already possible to ski in Neustift and Fulpmese.
Calendar winter brings frosts. In December-February, thermometers show -2-12°C during the day and -9-15°C at night. A short-term cooling down to -20-30 ° C is possible. The sun rarely appears during these months, but snowfalls regularly renew the cover on the slopes.
The best holiday in Stubai with children is a holiday in March. On the glacier, of course, the harsh winter continues, but at lower altitudes it becomes a little warmer. In April, the air warms up to + 3-7 ° C, although it is still very cold in the evenings.
In May, the temperature remains below zero at night, during the day the thermometers rise to + 10 ° C.
Summer holiday luggage in Stubai must include warm clothes and waterproof shoes. The air temperature fluctuates from +8°С to +15°С, at night the thermometers drop to +2-5°С.
There are about as many rainy days in summer as there are sunny days. In September, the air cools down to +4-10°C, at night the temperature drops below zero.
Transport
Public transport in Stubai is a must: the distance between the main ski areas is 25 km. In winter, ski buses successfully handle the delivery of skiers to the ski lifts.
Several routes have been laid along the resort, connecting the glacier and the Shlik-2000 ski area with the surrounding villages. Ski buses to the glacier run from October 1 to May 1, the rest of the routes operate from early December to the end of April. The exact timetable is on the resort website.
All-season transport in Stubai - regional bus number 590 Innsbruck - Stubai Glacier. A ticket from end to end costs about 9-10 euros, from Neustift to Innsbruck - a little more than 6 euros, from Fulpmes - about 6 euros. A ticket from Fulpmes to Neustift costs about 3 euros. Tickets for children 6-15 years old are discounted.
You can also get to Innsbruck from Fulpmes by mountain tram Stubaitalbahn. It takes a long time, but the views along the way are amazing.
It is convenient to use a car to get around the Stubai. Near the lower stations of the lifts there are parking lots, in Neustift car parking is located near the tourist center.
From where they made daily trips to the Stubai glacier, and who also to Hintertux, Selden, Pitztal, Countertal.
The 1st day of skiing, and the subsequent ones, reminded me of skiing in Gudauri :)). The Stubai glacier greeted us with full milk! Visibility was almost zero, it was snowing and windy, we did not know the slopes yet, so the skiing was very careful and short. When I rode, I could hardly see the 2nd landmark, which I used to navigate. If you can see 2 landmarks in a row, then the slope is gentle, if the 2nd landmark is not immediately visible, then it is lower and the slope is steeper. The lifts worked here until 16-16:30, but already at 2-3 o'clock in the afternoon no one was left on the mountain. Moreover, a slight clouding of reason / dizziness made me leave the mountain - I don’t know exactly how to call it medically correct. I read somewhere that a person goes crazy if he stays in a monophonic room for a long time, or if he is surrounded by perfectly even, straight or perpendicular lines. In order not to go crazy, you need to have some kind of "flaw" somewhere - a point, unevenness, irregularity, for which the eye clings, and this allows a person to somehow navigate in space. So in this "milk" this orientation is easily lost. I remember that I was slowly sliding down a gentle slope, because there was one (otherwise it would be possible to navigate by skiers - where to go and what's next), below and around it was white-white, that is, my eyes see the same thing all the time, with my body I feel my movement, and then suddenly, my head pulls back sharply. I realized that I had already stopped, but by inertia my body and brain reproduced the picture and the feeling that I was still moving. So, after that I ate some chocolate and went down to the gondola.
Having a similar experience with Gudauri (it was the same on the 1st day, but we still rode there in the pouring rain), I wasn’t upset at all, but on the contrary, I began to look forward to what Stubai looks like in sunny weather, which will definitely come the next day. Good weather was not long in coming. On the 2nd day we went to Sölden (the report will be later), and on the 3rd and subsequent days we rode in the Stubai and other glaciers. Some happy photos :)
And even their retractor is yellowish-blinky!
Now about Stubai. This is the site of the glacier http://www.stubaier-gletscher.com, there is a lot of useful information there. From what they write, the main value of Stubai is a long season - from the middle / end of September to the end of June. Cableways and lifts: 25 cable cars and lifts, including 5 funiculars, 7 chair lifts, 9 drag lifts. Tracks and routes: 110 km of downhill slopes, including 46 km of easy level, 39 km of intermediate level, 4 km of difficult descent, 19 km of ski routes. But this is all data for the winter state. I specially made a map of the tracks from the site, which are now open. So, as you can see, the ski area is almost 2 times smaller. Now the snowpark ski lift is closed there (it is marked yellow on the map), but when we skied it was open.
It turns out, as in Gudauri, there are 2 main chair lifts and around them different routes and ski lifts depart. It was possible to go down to a height of 2300m. Downstairs, of course, in the 2nd half of the day there was already a small mess. But in the morning, i.e. from 8:30 it was possible to drive almost on concrete. The retractor walked regularly during the day, so that it was always possible to ride on fresh velveteen. There were few people in May, mostly athletes from children and youth to more seasoned athletes trained. I got the impression that the main rollers in May were Poles and Russians, there were more of them than German and English speakers, and French and Italian speakers, so very few. I also smelled Romanians and Bulgarians.
I love such wide fields and the lack of skiers on the slopes!!! And freeriders have already completely rolled all the surroundings.
I didn’t find any difficult tracks for myself at all, only blue and red ones were open, most of the tracks are wide. The blue ones were good to drive.
About prices. They have a fairly flexible system of payment for ski passes. You could buy a ski pass for several days in a row, or you can, like me - 5 days out of 7. It turned out to be quite profitable when one day was spent on a trip to Innsbruck, and not the one that was originally planned. There is also a discount for a group of 10 people. As a result, for 5 days of skiing, the cost of the ski pass was 152.3E, 2E - a deposit for the ski pass, then returned.
This is the track to the very bottom, to the gondola at 2300m.
Gamsgarten is the starting point, where skiing begins and where it ends, you can ski down to the very bottom only in winter.
Views from the scratched booths.
Here such garbage grew there :).
And this is a teapot lift with a very blue track.
Views in the valley. The bus brings it here and takes it back. Skibus carries skiers for free almost from Innsbruck, but this is until 05/05/2014. From May 5, the fare from our Fulpmes (40 minutes on the road) cost 5E one way, but for multiple visits to the glacier, you can buy a weekly pass for 20.9E, which was done.
Tyrolean views near the building of the Stubai Glacier.
All in one photo - waterfall, snow, mountains, forest, greenery!
And these flowers bloom in the valley.
The Stubai Glacier is one of the 5 places in Austria where skiing lasts all year round, and one of the few resorts in the world where the elevation difference is almost one and a half kilometers. Among the resorts of Austria, Stubai is one of the most famous thanks to its excellent slopes, interesting places skiing and great service.
Trails of the Stubai Glacier
The steep mountains of the Austrian Stubai Glacier offer challenging slopes for the pros, while the gentle slopes at the bottom of the glacier offer "blue" snowfields for beginners. In total, the resort has 110 km of slopes, among which almost a third are “black”, half are “red” and the rest are “blue” and “green”. Freeride zones also delight thrill-seekers - descending from the ledge along a steep descent makes you show all your riding skills. Going upstairs, you use the subscription only on the first lift, after which all lifts are open for use without a ski pass. The ski school offers 8 levels of instruction and the snowboard school offers 6 levels.
A large ski area makes you carefully scroll through the map of the slopes so as not to get lost, and skiing in the snowboard park is available only with an instructor.

Snowboarding in the region is less popular than skiing However, it has been actively developed in recent years. Due to the fact that Elmau is located at a relatively low altitude, at the beginning and end of the season, the slopes need artificial snow.

- 39 rope tows;
- 37 chairlifts;
- 1 gondola.
In addition, 14 cable cars operate on the territory of the resort.

The Stubaital is part of the Innsbruck ski region. It is famous for its "thorny ridge" (71 peaks over 3000 m high). The famous Stubai Glacier is a guarantee of snow cover in any weather, so fans flock here extreme species sports and serious skiers. The main resorts: Fulpmes (Fulpmes, 17 km southwest of Innsbruck) and Neustift (Neustift, Neustift im Stubaital, 20 km). Recommend to rest here can be both beginners and more experienced skiers, who prefer, however, quite calm skiing.
Neustift www.neustift-stubaital.net/ and Fulpmes www.stubaital.at/ - two romantic alpine villages. They stretched for several kilometers along the Rützbach River, practically merging with each other and with a dozen smaller settlements of the valley. This is the center of active winter holiday with a developed tourist infrastructure. There are hotels of all categories here - from well-equipped farms and peasant houses to luxurious five-star hotels. The resorts are popular with families who prefer outdoor activities.
In total, there are approximately 110 km of slopes with a height difference from 1750 to 3210 meters, served by 25 modern lifts. The Elfer skiing area starts from Neustift - only 10 km of pistes (about 30% of the "blue", "red" and "black" slopes), which are considered a warm-up before the main skiing on Stubai. Plus, about 50 km of tracks (mostly "red") are laid closer to the glacier. The local "black" track is quite steep (1000 m difference) with a length of 3 km, but relatively "calm" in profile and well-groomed. In Neustift itself there are about 35 restaurants and cafes, 3 discos, a sports and entertainment center with an indoor pool, saunas and a solarium, indoor tennis courts, a bar and a restaurant, as well as many other recreational facilities.
Of great interest to well-trained skiers is the Schlick-2000 area near Fulpmes (Schlick 2000). His highest point- 2260 meters, and the main "highlight" is a two-kilometer "black" track with a height difference of about 1100 meters, plus 5 km of "red" tracks (extremely pleasant skiing on well-groomed slopes) and 7 km of "blue" tracks (not the steepest, but educational riding is difficult). This area is recommended for well trained skiers and boardercross fans.
But the hallmark of the region is the famous glacier Stubai www.stubaier-gletscher.com - Austria's largest and most easily accessible glacier ski area. It is really located very well - by car from Innsbruck you can get to the lower stations of the cable cars in just 45 minutes, and from Fulpmes to the glacier about 25 km. A free bus runs at short intervals throughout the valley to the glacier.
It is impossible to calculate the total number of tracks here - skiing goes on almost the entire surface of the glacier suitable for skiing - and these are almost 16 peaks and about a hundred valleys and valleys, mostly uninhabited. However, the usual estimate is 15.5 km of prepared pistes directly in the glacier ski area (45% blue, 40% red and 15% black), including 10 km of Wilde Grubn pistes with a vertical drop of 1500 m The longest (and most difficult) section is traditionally considered to be almost fifteen kilometers of slopes from the top of Daunferner to the Muttersberg plain, although any experienced skier will certainly offer their own options - the opportunities here are the widest. The slopes are serviced by 24 modern lifts.
Also here you can find the highest restaurant in Austria - Top of Tyrol (3150 m), the BIG Family Ski Camp ski kindergarten (from 3 to 15 years old), a first-class snowpark, a large number of various sports complexes, spa and fitness centers (mainly with hotels), sports clubs and playgrounds, bars and restaurants.
A one-day ski pass Skipässe Stubaier Gletscher will cost from 28.5 to 58 euros, depending on the season, skiing period and age, for 6 days - 90-201 euros. It is possible to purchase a separate subscription for each skiing region or Gletscher-Skipass, which combines the skiing regions of Patscherkofel, Axamer Lizum, Glungezer, Rangger Köpfl, Kühtai, Schlick 2000, Stubaier Gletscher and Nordpark (six-day ticket will cost 380 euros for an adult and 108 for a child).
The duration of the ski season in the valley is from mid-November to mid-April, and on the Stubai Glacier - almost all year round. The best snow in the highlands can be found from December 15 to April 30. However, it should be borne in mind that even during this period there is not so much snow on the glacier - most of the underlying surface is ice.
You can get to the Stubaital resorts from Innsbruck (from its airport about 15-35 km to any of the resort villages of the valley). It is also easy to travel by train from Munich (about 170 km by road), Vienna (400 km) or Bolzano (110 km) via Innsbruck.
