Capri island italy. Island of Capri, impressions of one day. How to get to Capri from Ischia
Capri has long been a favorite holiday destination for Roman emperors. Augustus liked to gather guests here, it is assumed that it was he who founded the world's first paleontological museum at the Villa Augustus - artifacts of the Stone Age discovered by the builders of the villa were exhibited there. Tiberius retired here in 27 and built several villas. In the 19th century the island was discovered by avid travelers from England, then artists and writers from other countries began to run into it. Later, the Russian writer Maxim Gorky lived here for a long time, and after the Second World War, the Germans also appeared.
The beauty of Capri is legendary. The length of the island is 6 km, and the maximum width is 2.5 km. Sheer limestone mountain slopes protrude from the water - sometimes over 500 m in height. The landscape of the island is characterized by unusual rocky formations, cliffs, but above all - many caves and grottoes, among which Grotta Azzura - the Blue Grotto is especially famous. In the upper plateau part of the island, nature is very pleasant: there is a lot of greenery, orange and lemon groves, orchards. The landscape is defined by diverse Mediterranean vegetation. The island is divided between two communities: Capri and Anacapri. The town of Capri is a real tourist center with hotels, restaurants and shops. Anacapri, on the other hand, is more like a village. These cities are full of vacationers, but the coast between them and in the mountainous part of the island is much more beautiful and calmer.
What to see
The easiest way to get the first impression of the island and its many grottoes is to take a motorboat tour around it, during the trip you can sail to Grotta Bianca, Grotta Meravillosa, Grotta Verde and Grotta Rossa.
Be sure to visit the garden of Caesar Augustus and admire the view of the sea and the cliffs of Faralione. Follow Via Tebirio to Villa Jovis, the most beautiful and largest of the Roman villas. They say that both Teberius and Caligula organized orgies and tortures here, although, perhaps, all these are just rumors. In Anacapri, you need to see the villa of San Michele and the beautiful garden laid out by Axel Munthe, a Swedish doctor, on the ruins of another Roman villa.
Be sure to visit the famous Blue Grotto - one of several sea caves on the rocky coast. The light reflects off the white sandy bottom, and the water takes on an extraordinary luminous blue hue. Capri is a wonderful place for water sports and diving, or just relaxing on the waterfront with a glass of limoncello in hand. Special boats run to the Blue Grotto and back.

The history of the island of Capri in facts and figures

It is known that primitive man lived on the island. Proof of this is the Grotta delle Felci cave. It was she who was used by primitive people as a place for rituals and burials.
The Greeks were the first settlers in Capri, they came here in the 8th century BC. This is evidenced by the traces of the walls of Greek buildings, as well as the Phoenician steps connecting Marina Grande with Anacapri.
Maxim BaskovEmperor Augustus was the first of the Roman generals to discover Capri and build a palace here. Later, Tiberius ruled here, who erected many architectural monuments.
In the early Middle Ages, Saint Constanzo, the future patron of these lands, arrived on the island. On his grave in the 9th century, the inhabitants erected a cathedral.
In the following centuries, the administration of the island changed hands. The Duchy of Naples, Lombards, Normans, Anjouans, Aragonese and Spaniards ruled here. Later the French and the British, who fortified the island.
InuIn 1826, the Blue Grotto became open to the general public. Information about the "blue miracle" quickly spread in Europe and attracted travelers. With this, a new chapter in the history of the island began.

If there is a place on earth where, with a clear conscience, you can go on about weaknesses and indulge in sweet idleness, then this, of course, is the island of Capri. This "temple of divine nature" has long attracted to itself, and from Emperor Augustus it even received the name Apragopolis or "the town of sweet idleness." It is difficult to simply list the names of the "great" people of this world who succumbed to the spell of Capri: in different eras, Amedeo Modigliani, Thomas and Heinrich Mann, Ivan Bunin, Pablo Neruda, Oscar Wilde, Emperor Tiberius and many others lived here.
Capri is a small island, only 6.7 km long and 2.7 km wide. If you set yourself a goal, then the island can be walked up and down in the most literal sense, because there are about 10 square kilometers of land suitable for living here. It is formed by a limestone rock, which over time gave Capri a mountainous relief, and an island is located in the western part of the country near the Sorrento coast.
Against the backdrop of three and four thousand meters of the Apennines, Mount Solare does not particularly shine with a height of only 589 meters. When approaching the water surface, the slopes of the hills become more gentle and gradually form two wide plateaus. The mountain range separates them from each other, and at the same time separates the two ports (Marina Grande for a large number of visitors and Marina Piccola for a small one) from each other. The coastline of the Italian island of Capri is heavily indented with bays, cliffs, gorges, grottoes and picturesque reefs peeking out of the water. The natural beauty of the island has undergone improvements on the part of man: lush thickets of grass, flowers and bushes have been "diluted" with citruses, olives and grapes.
Island of Capri. A bit of history
The history of the tourist island of Capri dates back to the Paleolithic period, at least, the finds that testify to the presence of a person on this piece of land belong to this time. But the active writing of a masterpiece named Capri took up only during the time of the Roman Empire. The then Neapolitan owners of the island received an offer from Emperor Augustus: to exchange the island of Capri for, located 30 kilometers northwest on the other side of the Gulf of Naples. The exchange took place, and Augustus founded his residence on the island, in which his successor on the throne, Tiberius, “dwelled”. With the collapse of the Roman Empire, the island of Capri in Italy returned to its former owners, and a little later even passed into the possession of the government of the republic. There were enough people who wanted to own one of the paradises at all times: among its owners there were Svenns, Normans, and Lombards. And J. Pellegrino completely acquired the Italian island as his property.
Island of Capri. About the resort
The rather mild Mediterranean climate gave Capri lush subtropical vegetation, the local flora has 850 species. As if by order, there are very few cloudy, and even more rainy days in the year in Capri, and the Italian sun is kind to both visitors and the local population. The average temperature during the tourist season ranges from 21 to 29 degrees, and therefore no one here languishes from the intense heat. And the almost complete lack of rain brings here those who suffer from lung diseases.
Landscape pictures of the island are unique. What is the mere view of Vesuvius against the backdrop of the Gulf of Naples! But the most remarkable in Capri is the sea. Here it is piercingly blue and transparent so that the clean sandy bottom can be seen at 8-10 meters. It was for the sake of this sea that emperors, industrial magnates, Arab sheiks, Hollywood actors and mere mortals came to rest on the island of Capri.
Attractions of the island of Capri
Despite the miniature size of the resort, the island of Capri is truly rich in memorable places. You can get to it by ferry, and already next to the port, tourists are “meeted” by the first sights of the island of Capri. In Plaza Victoria, next to the port of Marina Grande, there is the starting station of the local funicular, built over 100 years ago in 1907. In just 7 minutes, comfortable trailers will cover a distance of 650 meters and lift to a height of 138 meters, where there is an observation deck. And the first thing a tourist will see when climbing the funicular will be Piazza Umberto I - the central city square, otherwise called Piazzetta or a small square. It has long become a favorite place for all visitors, because here you can always have a bite to eat, dance and participate in various noisy entertainments. Another local attraction - the snow-white church of St. Stephen - can be reached by the steps of a flowering staircase. The church was built in the 17th century in the Baroque style by the Amalfi architect Marziale Desiderio. Until 1818, the church of St. Stephen was the Cathedral. And to the right of it is the Cherio Palace. The stern and massive building of the palace with a more than modest facade was erected in the 14th century for the wealthy Arcucci family. A little later, a shelter was located in the building, then a hotel. And today here is the research center of the island of Capri. Dr. Edwin Cherio.
Among the monuments of antiquity, it is worth devoting time to the Villa Damekuta, the ruins of which were discovered in 1937-1938. The time of its construction has not yet been established: scientists suggest that the villa was built during the time of the emperor Tiberius or Augustus. But there was also evidence that a person left the villa after the eruption of Vesuvius in 79. The destructive influence of hot lava and subsequent looting does not allow drawing a plan of the Damekut villa, but here you can see the watchtower, erected, however, much later in the 12th century.
Another attraction of ancient times is the Phoenician stairs, carved into the rock somewhere in the 7th-6th centuries. BC. It connects the cities of Anacapri and Capri. In order to sell their goods in the port and buy food, women had to move with bales on their heads along rather narrow, albeit safe, steps. Climbing the 921 steps of the Phoenician stairs at a distance of 1.7 km will take about an hour and a half, and the descent will take about forty minutes. Here, between the two cities at the end of the stairs, there is the church of St. Michelle, built in the 17th-18th centuries. in baroque style. It was built near the Teresian monastery named after Saint Michael and founded by the nun Seraphim di Dio. A distinctive feature of the monastery itself is an octagonal dome, and it also has a marble iconostasis with ornamental stones, decorated wooden altars and ancient canvases from the late 17th century. But the most remarkable is the floor of 1761, paved with majolite tiles by a Neapolitan master. The mosaic depicts the plot of the expulsion from Eden, filled with animals, Adam and Eve. Worthy of inspection and built near the city of Capri by order of Giacomo Arcucci, the Carthusian monastery of St. James, and the chapel of St. Anthony.
One of the main attractions of the second big city (as far as the size of the island itself allows) Anacapri is Villa San Michelle. It was this building that inspired the Swedish physicist Axel Munte to write the bestseller The Legend of San Michelle. The narrow streets of the town will lead to its historical center Le Boffet Caprille. Anacapri also has its own cable car leading from the city to Mount Solaro. Well, those who like to feel like a part of history should look at the “hermit” villa of Curzio Malaparte, a journalist and writer from the times of fascist Italy, standing alone on Cape Massulo. This two-story red building with a flat roof, accessed by a wide staircase, was built in 1938-1949. Its simplicity against the backdrop of majestic nature allows tourists to feel the harmony of contrasts reigning here.
Among the miraculous sights of the island of Capri are the Natural Arch and the Blue Grotto. Arco Naturale (Natural Arch) is a naturally formed stone arch of luxurious appearance, located at a height of 200 meters. It is rare that a selection of photos of the island of Capri does without its unofficial symbol - the Blue (Azure) Grotto. This is not surprising: the most beautiful cave, located on the very seashore, is very popular with tourists. The length of the Blue Grotto reaches 57 meters, the width is 30 meters, and the highest height is 15 meters. The grotto was named because of the piercing blue color of sea water, heated by the sun's rays. True, due to its proximity to the sea, the Blue Grotto is not accessible to tourists during a storm. And, of course, "faraglioni" - mysterious rocky colossi protruding from the depths of the sea. These three reefs have long been an integral part of Capri's landscape photos. The highest cliff reaches 111 meters.
Island of Capri. Recreation and entertainment
In addition to sightseeing and historical monuments, Capri offers more modern activities. So, here you can always charter a yacht and take a boat trip around the island, making stops at the places you like. Climbers and speleologists will also appreciate the opportunities provided by the island. The former will be able to conquer the local peak of Monte Solare, and the latter will explore the numerous local coves and caves.
Those tourists who are not able to sit in one place for a long time can go on an excursion to Naples, Sorrento or the island of Ischia . Often, excursions are also carried out on the territory of the island of Capri itself, for example, to visit a factory that produces the most famous Italian liqueur, Limoncello.
If you are not a fan of excessive activity during your vacation, you can buy branded goods in local shops and enjoy the abundance of the menu of local restaurants, which takes gourmets away from the gray days. People come to the island of Capri not just on vacation, they go here in anticipation of a deep “dive” into the atmosphere of a fairy tale. And the paradise island in Italy has never let anyone down.
The island of Capri is one of the symbols of Italy, known throughout the world. This is a dream with open eyes. But Capri is not only about magnificent wildlife and landscapes carved by wind and sea. Behind them lies an interesting historical layer, because many artists, writers, aristocrats and patrons lived here.
“Capri is a sacred place, the goal is not to see it, but to feel emotions
certain quality...

In addition to its rich culture, the beauty of its sea and nature, Capri has a lot to offer in terms of shopping: elegant boutiques and artisan shops that adorn the narrow streets of the local cities are full of goods made in Italy and traditional local delicacies.
It is simply impossible not to visit here at least once.
What to see
Faraglioni Rocks
The word "faraglioni" in Italian means "high sea cliffs". In the southeastern part of the island, three impressive reefs rise above the sea, which just beg for a photograph and are the main symbol of Capri.
The average height of these "faraglioni" is about 100 m; the first rock, extending straight from the shore, is called Stella, the second - the lowest of the three, with a huge arch in the middle - Faraglione di Mezzo, and the third - Faraglione di Fuori, or Scopolo. It is here, on the third of the reefs, that the famous blue lizard lives ( podarcis siculus coeruleus): probably, she acquired such an unusual color in order to better disguise herself as the colors of the surrounding nature. Not far from these three reefs rises the fourth, Monacone, also associated with the animal world: the fact is that it got its name from a monk seal; this endangered species of mammal once visited the waters of the island of Capri.
Faraglioni is best admired from the sea - you can take a boat ride that passes very close to Faraglioni di Mezzo, or you can just swim in the azure waters. This area of the island of Capri was appreciated in ancient Rome; it was here that luxurious Roman villas were built with views of the rocks. In the XX century. this ancient tradition was taken up by artists and intellectuals, in whose environment Capri became a favorite place to look for inspiration.
The Piazzetta di Capri
In the local dialect, it is called "chiazza", and the official toponymy prescribes to speak Umberto I Square (piazza Umberto I); but there is also a common name - “piazzetta di Capri” (from it. piazzetta - “small square”). This is the very center of the city of Capri, around which the whole life of the island revolves. It is simply impossible not to look here, and it is difficult not to linger here at least for a cup of coffee.
As you might guess, it is called "piazzetta" for its very modest size: the quadrangular area occupies only a few square meters, almost completely filled with cafe tables. On summer evenings, you can’t push through here among the motley crowd: you just have to sit at a table, drink something and watch people. And then you understand why this square is called the "living room of the whole world." Here you can see how the princesses of the northern kingdoms, Italian actors, American millionaires, ordinary people are sitting a few meters from each other.
Climbing the stairs that start from this square, you will find yourself at the building of the church of Santo Stefano - the main temple of Capri, erected in the 17th century - and the cultural center of the center named after Ignazio Cerio, which is housed in an old 14th-century palazzo, owned by a family of counts Arcucci.
From here it is worth taking a stroll through the narrow lanes to the orange grove of the Teresian Missionary Monastery. This is the oldest part of the city; the peace and quiet reigning here are so striking that it seems as if the bustle of the piazzetta has remained somewhere in the distant past. In fact, just turn the corner and you will find yourself in front of the clock tower again ..
It is this turret, of course, that is the symbol of the square; it is one of the most original examples of a belfry standing apart from a church. Every fifteen minutes, a bell ringing is heard, marking the unhurried course of island time.
blue grotto
This is the most famous attraction of the island of Capri, and travelers from all over the world come to see it - even if only for a few minutes. There are long queues at the entrance. The "Blue Grotto" is 25 meters wide and 60 meters long, the entrance to it is less than a meter high. To enter, you need to stretch out on the bottom of a rowing boat, which slips in through a small archway. Inside, you swim in the dark on water so blue that it seems transparent.
The grotto has been known since ancient Rome; it is assumed that this was one of the favorite nymphs (as the sanctuary dedicated to the nymphs was called) of the emperor Tiberius. Indeed, several ancient statues were found at the bottom of this grotto. For many centuries, the grotto (which was then called Gradola) remained abandoned - moreover, the sailors were afraid to go there, because folk legends said that spirits and demons lived there. The fate of the grotto changed dramatically on April 18, 1926, when it was discovered by the German writer August Kopisch and the artist Ernst Fries, his friend and travel companion, along with local fisherman Angelo Ferraro and notary Giuseppe Pagano.
blue grotto
The azure-blue color of the grotto is given by sunlight penetrating here through an underwater “window”, which opens directly under the passage inside; this light passes through a water filter that absorbs the red part of the spectrum and passes the blue part. If you immerse any object in water, then you will see another curious phenomenon - silvery reflections on it: the fact is that air bubbles adhering to the outer surface of any objects have a different refractive index than water, allowing light to pass through them. Getting into the Blue Grotto is an experience that you should definitely experience at least once in your life.
Marina Piccola
If you are looking for a beach overlooking the Faraglioni rocks, Marina Piccola is the place to be. This is a very sheltered place, and even on the coldest winter days it is pleasant to lie and sunbathe here, and many inhabitants of the island even have a habit of swimming in this bay all year round.
Marina Piccola is located in the southern part of the island. You can get here from Piazzetta by bus, which departs from the final one, or on foot, first going down Via Roma to a place called Due Golfi, and then along the stairs of Via Mulo. It's a pleasant walk for about fifteen minutes.
Near the square where the bus terminus from Marina Piccola is located, there is a staircase leading to a pebbly beach and the small church of Sant'Andrea, built in 1900. Going down this you will reach the "Rock of the Sirens", where, according to some , sat the very sirens who, with their songs, seduced the sailors of Odysseus in the poem of the same name by Homer. These rocks divide the bay of Marina Piccola into two small beaches: Marina di Mulo and Marina di Pennauro, which in ancient times served as a small port for the ancient Romans.
shopping triangle
The triangle of luxury shopping in Capri stretches from the Piazzetta to Via Camerelle and Via Le Bottegue. In the town of Anacapri, on Via Giuseppe Orlandi, you will find many shops of local artisans, and souvenir shops are concentrated along the road to Villa San Michele.
Behind the luxury brand shops (most of them between Piazzetta and Via Camerelle) are: artisan shops that make the famous custom-made Capri sandals; workshops of perfumers who make their fragrances by hand, inheriting ancient traditions dating back to the monks of the 15th century. from the monastery of Certosa di San Giacomo, who insisted in alcohol the flowers and herbs of Capri; shops where you can buy the famous DOC limoncello made on the island.
Gardens of Augustus and Via Krupp
The Gardens of Augustus, originally known as the Krupp Gardens, is the city park of Capri. It was defeated at the behest of Friedrich Alfred Krupp, a German industrialist-steelmaker, who at the beginning of the 20th century. bought several plots on the island in order to build a villa (although Krupp never realized this intention).
The park is a real botanical garden, where numerous specimens of island flora grow with ornamental and other plants. Along with the beauties of nature, it is beautiful for its panoramic views of the landscapes of the island: from here you can see half of Capri, Mount Solaro, Marina Piccola, Via Krupp and the famous Faraglioni reefs.
In addition, there is a monument to Lenin in the park, who lived in Capri in 1908 while visiting the Russian writer Maxim Gorky. The monument consists of several blocks of marble, set on top of each other, and is 5 meters high; Lenin's face is carved on the largest of them. The monument was made by the sculptor Giacomo Manzu in 1968 by order of the Soviet embassy in Rome and approved by the city council of Capri.
Via Krupp starts from the park, one of the most spectacular streets in the world: it is a very narrow serpentine that covers a descent of about 100 meters.
Villa Jovis on Mount Tiberius
Emperor Tiberius was the first "tourist" who fell in love with the island of Capri: in 26 AD. he decided to leave the Roman chaos and retire here to rest.
In the first century AD, he built 12 villas on the island, including Villa Jovis, the largest of all. It is located on a plot of about 7,000 square meters and dominates the entire promontory of Monte Tiberio and the basin that opens towards Cesina. The panorama, which can be enjoyed from the north, covers a good part of the Gulf of Naples from the island of Ischia to Cape Campanella, and from the south, a view of the center of Capri.
In terms of its architectural parameters, the villa resembles classical mansions of the Roman period, as well as - in part - a small fortress. In the middle were cisterns for collecting rainwater, the most important resource on the island, where there are no natural sources; water was used both for drinking and for thermae, which included the entire classic set of rooms - apoditerium (waiting room), frigidarium (cool room), tepidarium (warm room) and caldarium (hot room).
The living quarters of the emperor and his entourage were on the north side; the servants' rooms were located in the western one, and the throne room was located in the eastern one.
Villa San Michele
Munte chose for his villa the most panoramic point on the entire island - the northeastern slope of Anacapri, at an altitude of 327 meters above sea level; once on this site stood a Roman villa of the period of the empire and the medieval chapel of San Michele.
Munte devoted most of his life to the villa and garden. Among the main attractions of his mansion are the head of Medusa, which adorned the Roman temple of Venus, medieval religious art, Tuscan furniture of the 18th century, Roman frescoes and sculptures, including a marble bust of Emperor Tiberius, a table with a marble slab in the style of the Cosmati brothers, a Sicilian wrought iron chandelier and the Egyptian sphinx, which has become in fact a symbol of the Munte house. The Sphinx is located in one of the highest points throughout the villa.
In the garden, you can admire many plants typical of the Mediterranean strip: there are camellias, hydrangeas, magnificent rose bushes, pines and cypresses, surrounded by a white colonnade with a canopy (an element very characteristic of local villas). In addition, the garden offers stunning views of the Gulf of Naples. Today, Villa San Michele is a museum open to the public, and in the summer it hosts the Concerti al Tramonto music festival.
Mount Solaro
Monte Solaro, 589 meters above sea level, is the highest panoramic point on the island of Capri. From its terraces, the gaze of the traveler is able to embrace the Faraglioni rocks, the city of Capri, the Sorrento Peninsula, the Galli Islands, and the entire Gulf of Naples.
There are two ways to get to the top of the mountain:
A cable car with chairs departs from Piazza Vittoria. Using it, in just 12 minutes you will be on top. The road does not pass over high altitudes, so even people who experience dizziness from height can safely use it. But it is not suitable for children.
On foot: the trail starts from Piazza della Pace in Anacapri (behind the cemetery) and, of course, is a solid, but well-marked and quite comfortable climb. The way up will take about an hour.
Whichever way you choose, the panorama that awaits you will definitely impress you!
Anacapri
If the Piazzetta di Capri is the heart of the island's social life, the starting point for afternoon walks and the place for an evening aperitif, the old town in Anacapri allows you to quietly wander through quiet squares and streets adorned with geraniums and bougainvillea.
Walking down Via Giuseppe Orlandi, a pedestrian street lined with craft shops that crosses the old town, you will see the unusual contour of the “Red House” (Casa Rossa), an old mansion painted in Pompeian red, combining several architectural features at once. styles. Until 1899, the house was the home of American Colonel John Clay McCowan, who arrived in Italy immediately after the end of the American Civil War. The colonel decorated his mansion with archaeological finds that he came across while walking along the paths of the island, and turned it into a real cultural center.
In the rooms of the "Red House" you can see the permanent exhibition entitled "Picture Island: A Scenic Journey to Capri and Anacapri from the 19th to the 20th Centuries", which features canvases by artists such as Barrett, Carelli, De Montalan, Karaben, Lovatti, Hay , Cacharo, Vianelli.
A little further than the "Red House" is the Church of San Michele Arcangelo. This is a baroque building of the XVII-XVIII centuries. - one of the main tourist attractions of the island: there is a wonderful majolica floor depicting the scene of the expulsion of Adam and Eve from the earthly paradise.
Returning to Via Giuseppe Orlandi, you can move on towards the Church of Santa Sophia, the main temple of Anacapri. This church was built in the 16th century. and has a vaulted ceiling and a facade with baroque outlines, hiding part of the ancient bell tower, completed in the 18th century.
Anacapri
Going down the stairs to the side of the church, you will reach Piazza Boffe, one of the oldest quarters of the city. Here you can still admire the old houses built by local craftsmen admired by such great architects as Edwin Cerio and Roberto Pane.
Kitchen
The most famous dish on the island is the local ravioli. The dough for them is made from equal parts of water and flour, so that the ravioli are very light. Parmesan, dry Cachotta cheese and marjoram are put in the filling. The sauce is made from fresh tomatoes and basil. It is a first course with a fresh and bright taste, it is also great for vegetarians. In Capri, it is prepared in almost all restaurants.

As an option, ravioli can be fried instead of boiled like pasta: it makes an excellent appetizer or tapas, for example, as an accompaniment to an aperitif.
In addition to ravioli, traditional first courses in Capri include scialatielli. It's a certain kind of fresh pasta, similar to tagliatelle, only thicker. The dough is made from flour, water, grated cheese, fresh basil and salt. You will meet them more than once in the menu with seafood or vegetables. You should also try spaghetti alla Nerano with zucchini and cheese.

After pasta, the first fish goes well, for example, "pezzogna" (pezzogna), very common in the seas of Capri. It is often cooked "in crazy water" (all'acqua pazza), that is, with a sauce of cherry tomatoes, parsley, garlic and olive oil. Also in the surrounding waters there are fish "sarago", zuban (dentice), polyp (polipo) and squid (totani).
Other traditional Capri seafood delicacies are shrimp, which are caught on the bottom near the shore between Capri and Massa Lubrense. They are eaten lightly fried in a pan or even raw, without any sauce, just sprinkled with olive oil. Often they are added to pasta or risotto.

Another dish that is easy to find in Capri and that we really like is mussels with pepper and paprika (impepata di cozze). Usually they are ordered as an appetizer and placed in the middle of the table to share with the table neighbors.
And wash it all down with a bottle of fresh white wine. If you're in the Millera area of Anacapri, ask for the local white wine, it's excellent here. Otherwise, order Falanghina del Sannio or a white wine from Vesuvius, such as Lacrima Christi.

How to get there
People come to Capri by sea. Hydrofoils and ferries depart regularly from Naples and Sorrento, but during the summer there are additional flights from Positano, Amalfi, Salerno and Ischia. In Naples, ships depart from two ports: Molo Beverello and Calata Porta di Massa.
Molo Beverello is opposite the Angevin castle of Maschio Angioino, Calata di Massa - about a kilometer east of it (when looking at the sea, you need to move to the left). The two ports are connected by a free shuttle.
From the port of Sorrento, to Marina Piccola, there are hydrofoils and ferries to Capri. In summer, flights are especially frequent (almost every half an hour), and the journey takes 25 minutes.
The port of Sorrento can be reached from Piazza Tasso by stairs. The walk is short, but it can be difficult because the road goes up: you can use the shuttle that runs from the square to the port and back, or the elevator that takes you to Villa Comunale.
It is forbidden to bring a car to the island for most of the year; besides, there is very little benefit from it.

One of the most popular resorts in Naples, the island of Capri in the Tyrrhenian Sea has been loved by tourists, including very high-ranking ones, since ancient times. The island of Capri, if you look at the map, is located on the south side of the Gulf of Naples, not far from the place where the Sorrentine Cape is located.
Location of the island of Capri on the map of Italy
At one time, this wonderful Mediterranean place was bought by Emperor Augustus from the inhabitants of Naples in exchange for having a personal piece of paradise in his possessions.
After the fall of the Roman Empire, the island again belonged to the Neapolitans.
The history of the origin of the name of the island varies - according to some, it comes from the word "Caprea" - a goat, others believe that the name comes from the Greek noun "κάπρος" - a boar. The island of Capri, Italy, does not differ in the breadth of space - it extends only 7 km in length, and a little less than 3 in width.
Island weather
This resort is downright spoiled by the green riot of local vegetation (about a thousand varieties), and the mildness of climatic conditions. The weather in Capri seems to be made for a relaxing and happy holiday: there is very little rain and they are not lingering, and the average daily temperature is about 25-28 degrees Celsius, which allows locals and visitors to enjoy the soft rays of the sun all year round.

The best time to relax on the island is from June to October, as in May the water in the sea is still not comfortable enough for swimming.
From July to August, there is usually an influx of tourists, and prices rise accordingly.
Therefore, it is best, perhaps, to relax here in June, September and October, although the rest of the months are also excellent.
